[SP/F1] <<Training your Friend>>

Recommended Posts

As Alec fought with the Wolf he had looked over to Humphrey and called out for his aid and help. The bear cub padded forward and began nuzzling at Alec’s back and side trying to transfer some of his stored up healing energy from within his body into his friends and heal the wounds that Alec had sustained. As the bear cub began to nuzzle Alec’s back he felt a welling of warm tingling energy well up but then they ebbed away like a retreating tide and he felt empty again an d nothing happened. Alec heard a growl of frustration and annoyance from behind coming form his friend and companion. “Hey relax there big guy.” Alec said over his shoulder with a smile. ”You saw me fight earlier and I can’t ask much more from you than I’ve given already. You saw me fall on my butt and flop around like a fish out of water earlier I couldn’t ask better of you than I’ve shown. It’s no hurry. You can do it and I believe in you. You’ll get it when the times right and not before then.” Alec snapped Humphrey a wry grin as he turned back to his fight with the Wolf. I got this fight and you’ll find out how to unlock your powers.

Alec turned from his talk to Humphrey back the Wolf snapping at him from the other side of his shield. He flexed his body and thrust his shield away from him throwing the Wolf away and knocking him tumbling. The Wolf rolled to its feet and growled ferociously at Alec as it bared its teeth before sprinting toward Alec with uncontrolled rage in its eyes. The Wolf launched itself at Alec but Alec swung his shield in the way and blocked the razor sharp teeth and snapping maw that were screeching and scratching across his shield. Alec brought his axe up high and swung it down sinking his axe head into the Wolfs body and opening another cut that expelled red pixels. The Wolf continued to bite and claw at Alec’s shield as it began to hum and then SNAP it sent an arc of static electricity into the Wolf causing it to yelp and jump away from Alec as it retreated from him to gain some space. Alec took a moment to catch his breath and steal his reserves as he gritted his teeth and prepared for the Wolf to attack again.

As Alec threw the Wolf away from he took the pause in the combat to take a deep centering breath as the Wolf growled and and snarled at him from the distance. Alec rolled his shoulders forward several times and brought his Shield of the Thunderhearts up before him in. With his shield held before him and his defenses set Alec raised his Mithril Battle Axe toward the Wolf made a come here motion with it to taunt the Wolf into acting foolishly. Then Alec raised his axe over his shoulder and prepared to swing as the Wolf charged in at him. The Wolf snarled and growled again at Alec again and charged at Alec with its teeth snapping and biting and spittle flying from its frothing jaws. As the Wolf launched itself at Alec he brought his shield up and met the Wolf’s charge head on and stopped the Wolf dead it its tracks as he swung his axe down at the Wolf he sunk its head into the Wolf and opened another large cut in the Wolfs hide that jetted red pixels again as Alec ripped the axe from the Wolf.

Alec and Wolf continued there battle to the death the Wolf bit and clawed at Alec trying to get past his solid defenses and past Alec’s shield to get to at his body. Alec swung his Mithril Battle Axe up and down like a piston chopping into the Wolf again and again. The Wolf continued to bite at Alec with its razor sharp teeth. The Wolf snapped at Alec over his shield and opened up a large cut on Alec’s arm tearing a chunk form it the shot out red pixels as the Wolf tore the chink of meat from Alec’s arm. Alec swung his MIthril Axe down in response and buried it in the Wolf causing the Wolfs health bar to drop for yellow into the red. Alec’s own health bar currently rested in the yellow itself and Alec knew he needed to end this fight before he took too much more damage. Alec gritted his teeth and drew on his well of resolve and dug deep. He would finish this fight.

The Wolf continued to bite and claw at Alec’s shield trying to get through it to get at Alec and open more rents in his flesh. The Wolf clawed over Alec’s shield and found itself nearly in a hug being trapped between Alec’s body and his shield the Wolf thrashed and snapped biting Alec in the face and opening a large tear there over Alec’s eye that exploded red pixels and dropped Alec;s health bar in to the red and Alec lost partial vision of the Wolf out of his torn eye. Alec threw the Wolf to the ground and roared in defiance to the Wolf as the raised his Mithril Axe over his head and drew in the energy for a Sword Art. He felt the energy course through him and into his axe. Alec’s axe began to vibrate and its mirrored head began to shine and glow. The vibrations and glow grew until his axe shook with the nearly contained power and then Alec swung his axe down at the Wolf in a double diagonal swing that sent a glowing X surging toward the Wolf and struck it in chest opening up a large X there that throbbed an angry red and pulsed causing the Wolf to begin throbbing and pulsing until it exploded in a brilliant shower of red pixels that rained down around him finally dissipated into nothing around Alec. With a heavy sigh of relief and victory Alec sank to his knees and released his grip on his Mithril Axe and let it rest on the ground in front of him. “Ok my friend.” Alec said as he looked over to his friend and companion Humphrey with a smile and determined set to his jaw. “Give it a try now.” Humphrey padded slowly over to Alec and took a deep breath setting his own resolve and drawing on the palpable waves of resolve and determination that radiated from Alec and steeled Humphrey’s own resolve and will. Humphrey began nuzzling at Alec and willed with everything inside him that the warmth and tingling feeling of his healing energies pass from him into his friend Alec and heal his injuries and wounds.

The big man threw the Wolf to the ground after it had gotten lodged between his arm shell and his body. Then he raised his shiny moon tooth over his head and it began to vibrate and glow till Humphrey could feel the vibration in his teeth. Once the vibration built to an incredible amount Alec swung the glowing vibrating moon tooth down and into the Wolf causing it to shimmer and shake and finally explode in a shower of red pixels. Once the red pixels finished fall and the Wolf disappeared the big man sunk to the ground and released his grip on his moon tooth. He looked over at Humphrey and said some words Humphrey didn’t understand but the bear cub felt their meaning the big man wanted him to try healing him again and Alec felt waves of resolve and willpower coursing of the big man and strengthening his resolve and Humphrey felt more solid and sure of himself as he slowly padded over to his injured friend and began nuzzling him and wishing with everything that was himself that the healing warmth should flow from into his friend and ease his friends pain and suffering. Humphrey felt the warmth and tingle leave his own body and form a connection between the two friends.

As Humphrey began to nuzzle Alec in his chest, neck and face Alec felt a warming tingle begin to come over his body and spread through his limbs. The warmth and tingling reassured Alec and relieved some of his pain but he had taken a lot of damage from the Wolf and still had many wounds that were open, most had begun closing but the healing was not enough to completely heal all of his wounds. Non the less it brought a smile to his face as he looked at his friend and companion Alec reached a hand out and began scratching the bear cub on his neck and behind his ears. “Good job Humphrey. I knew you had it in you.” Alec said as he embraced his friend and companion and offered his love and affection to the bear cub. He was very proud of Humphrey and shared his feelings of pride and accomplishment he felt for the bear cub.

Alec flexed his tree trunk like legs and raised his massive frame from the kneeling position he had been in in front of his friend and companion. Alec’s footing wasn’t completely sure as of yet he had received some healing his healing bar had been raised from yellow to green but it was still far from full. Alec’s balance was still a little wobbly as he stood grabbing his Mithril Battle Axe as he rose to a standing position. He looked down at Humphrey as smiled. “I’m really proud of you my friend.” Alec told the bear cub with another scratch on the back of his neck and behind his ears. “You’ve done a great job and I knew you could do it.” Alec said. “Lets move around a little bit.” Alec began to walk through the forest again he still wasn’t done yet he needed to train Humphrey a little more before he completed the quest so Alec set off to find more creatures to fight.

The big man stood on wobbling legs and said some words to Humphrey. The bear cub didn’t understand the words but he felt the intention. They weren’t done here. Humphrey felt concern and worry for his friend. He wasn’t fully healed and still had many injuries that were open and healing. The large man had so much willpower and determination that always wafted off him and spread to those around him empowering and reinforcing them. But he had little to no sense of care for himself or self preservation. Humphrey knew the big man needed him. If anyone could keep the large man alive it was him and he felt right doing it. It was where he belonged. The big man needed him or he’d end up getting himself killed throwing himself into something too deep for him to deal with and Humphrey would not let that happen. The bear cub stepped into pace beside the large man and rested him neck and shoulder against Alec giving him something to rest against. Humphrey would keep Alec alive that the bear cub vowed to itself and those that had come before it.

Alec continued to walk through the forest albeit a little wobbly but step by step he walked through the forest. As Alec walked on he realized that Humphrey had come up beside him and was gently leaning against him. The it came to Alec in a realization then Humphrey wasn’t leaning against him Humphrey was walking next to him and he was leaning on Humphrey for support. Alec stopped walking and looked down at the bear cub. Humphrey looked back up at Alec with sorrow and care in its eyes. It was pretty evident that the bear cub cared for him and felt protective feelings for him. Alec reached down and scratched the bear cub sharing the feelings of care and protective desires with the bear cub. Maybe he should take it easy for a moment he did feel a little wobbly yet and wasn’t quite as sure footed as h e would like. He looked down to Humphrey who was already looking up at him. “All right, all right you’re right I’m not quite ready yet I’ll give it a couple more minutes before I head out again.” Alec looked around and saw a large felled tree log and walked over to it and sat down tiredly and let out a sigh of relief at he momentary time to relax. Humphrey came over and sat next to Alec and rested his head on Alec’s leg waiting with him.

As Alec sat on the felled tree log he took several deep relaxing breaths to steady himself. The forest really was rather calm and peaceful. Gentle sunlight filtered in through the canopy above and left small thin rays that reached down and touched the ground. As Alec sat he watched dust motes dancing through the rays of sunlight and examined the various colors surrounding him. The wood of the trees bark was a rich rough brown while the leaves of the broad leaf trees where a bright vibrant green with traces of yellow running through the wide flat leaves. Alec continued to look around and noticed a bright yellow tinted stringy lichen hanging from several of the nearby tree branches. Alec’s hand found its way to Humphrey and was astounded my the thick luxurious softness of the bear cubs fur. The bear cub looked up at its closest and dearest friend and wished for nothing more than to protect him and sustain him. As Humphrey looked up at Alec he felt the tingling warmth that ran trough his body begin to swell and gently urged the healing energies to travel through him and into his closet friend to heal his many injuries.

As Alec and Humphrey sat side by side enjoying the peace and quiet of the forest Alec began to absently scratch at the bear cubs neck and behind his ears. The bear cub rested its head on friends leg and looked up at him. The man felt a driving need to protect him Humphrey could feel that coursing off the large man. The bear cub felt and equal need to keep the large man safe and as they shared their feelings of admiration and devotion to each other Humphrey felt the warm tingly healing energies build within him to nearly a boiling point then the energies began to flow through the bear cub and into the large man. Humphrey could feel the warmth fill Alec and course through him in a swirl that filled the mans body. Humphrey felt accomplished as they shared the healing energies between them the bear knew this was it was here for. The large man would protect others and he would protect the large man. They both had their own roles and they would fulfill them to the best of their abilities. The bear cub smiled at the large man scratching it and growled happily at him.

Alec sat on the fallen tree and idly scratched at the bear cub Humphrey who sat beside him, its head resting on his leg. As Alec sat there with his companion sharing a moment of calm and tranquility with the bear cub. As they sat together Alec felt a strong tingly warmth slowly seep into his body and fill his entire being. The warmth spread through him to his extremities and filled his body with warm tingling healing energy. The sense was calming and invigorating at the same time. Alec felt his wounds especially start the tingle and grow warm as the fake flesh knitted itself together and healed back to normal. Alec was caught off guard by the healing warmth that filled his body. As his wounds closed he felt the warmth and tingle gently recede from him and return to Humphrey. Alec looked down startled at Humphrey and smiled a surprised smile of gratitude and affection at the bear cub. Suddenly a chime sounded and Alec saw a banner pop up in front of his vision CONGRATULATIONS FAMILIAR TRAINNED IN HEALING - QUEST COMPLETE!!!!” Alec chuckled ruefully to himself at the irony of it all. Here he had tried to throw himself into combat and all it had taken was to sit quietly and relax with Humphrey to complete the quest, it figured. As Alec smiled down at the bear cub he grinned a broad genuine grin at the bear cub “Congratulations my friend it appears we’ve completed the quest! You’ve been trained as a Battle Healing Companion. Thank you!” Humphrey looked up at the large man as he spoke and parted his lips in a smile that showed his teeth and growled a happy rumble at the big man. Humphrey felt pride in himself and like he had achieved his role in life and was now ready to help and follow Alec through his adventures and be his true companion.

Alec looked down at Humphrey as the healing warmth and tingle dissipated from his body. So friend what do you say friend?” Alec asked. “Should we pack it up here and head out? Look for different pastures and find another quest to take? I hear there’s some more on the Second Floor. Maybe we should venture out and see what floor two has to offer for a pair of guys like ourselves. What do you think? We’re partners here after all.” Alec looked to Humphrey as the bear cub tipped its head to the side as if in thought. Then the bear cub rumbled out a growl of ascent and looked in the direction of the Town of Beginnings. With that Alec flexed his tree trunk legs and stood up. He placed his Mithril Battle Axe in the loop at his hip and turned toward the Town of Beginnings. Alec and Humphrey made their way out of the forest and entered the grasslands that led to the Northern Gate and the Town of Beginnings inside that.

Alec and Humphrey exited the forest and felt the warmth of the sun beating down on them now that they were out of the forest and back into the open grasslands outside the Town of Beginnings. They made their way casually through the prairie felling the hot sun shine down on the them as they passed through grassland and made their way to the Northern Gate of the Town of Beginnings. They walked uneventfully and enjoyed the casual stroll that brought them to the large gate that ushered entrance to the Town of Beginnings. As the passed through the gate and entered the courtyard inside the Northern Gate Alec stopped and looked around. He reached his hand out and swiped it down opening up his inventory and looking at the items contained within. As he scrolled through his items he stopped on his equipped items and selected his Mitlril Battle Axe and tapped on it causing his Mithril Battle Axe to disappear from his vision. Next he tapped on his Shield of the Thunderhearts and selected it causing it to also disappear. Finally he selected his Adamantine Pauldrons and taped their icon and caused those too to disappear. Alec then closed his inventory and looked to Humphrey. “Lets go to the Inn and get something to eat and grab a drink after toady I’m starving and could really use a drink too.” Alec said as he looked down at Humphrey.

Alec and Humphrey set off at an easy stroll through the streets of the Town of Beginnings. For once Alec didn’t really notice all the other “People” around him as he and Humphrey slowly walked towards the Inn. Alec’s normal bubble was still there but with Humphrey at his side the crowd of people was dulled and Alec barely noticed that there were others around him aside from Humphrey. As the pair casually strolled along he streets of the Town of Beginnings they made their way at a casual unhurried pace and eventually found themselves standing outside the door to the Inn Alec rented a room at. Alec reached out and grasped the door handle of the door to the Inn and pulled it open allowing him peer into the common room. More or less all the same people were seated in the common room at various tables and benches. Alec stepped into the common room with Humphrey following right behind him. Alec closed the door behind them and walked across the room his booted feet making heavy hollow thumps ad he walked across the room to an open table and pulled the wooden chair out from the table with a loud SSCCRRRAAATTTCCCHHHH. Alec slowly lowered himself onto the chair and received his usual warning CCRREEEAAAKKKKK as he gently rested his massive frame on the small wooden chair.

After only a few moments the Innkeeper approached Alec and Humphrey and looked to Alec not even acknowledging the fact that there was an American Black Bear cub laying at the foot of Alec beside his seat. “Good evening Sir.” the Innkeeper began. “What can I get you this evening?” Alec thought about it for a moment then said” Sir, I think I’ll have a steak rare with a baked potato. I’d also love a mug of ale and a glass of whiskey. Oh and a raw steak for my friend Humphrey here.” Alec replied to the Innkeeper with a smile and a nod. Humphrey gave a happy growl and rumble from the floor beside Alec. The Innkeeper nodded his ascent and turned away from Alec walking to the kitchen. After a short time the Innkeeper returned with Alec’s order. The Innkeeper placed Alec’s steak and potato in front of him and the rare steak in a heavy wooden bowl on the ground in front of Humphrey. Humphrey licked his mouth and began to tear into the the raw steak as Alec began to cut into his own rare steak and accompanying potato. Alec sipped at his ale as he ate his food enjoying each and every bite as he never had before the food had a richer fuller taste like it never had. When Alec had finished his dinner he flexed his tree trunk like legs and the chair protested again loudly as he rose from the chair. Alec picked up his glass of whiskey and strode over to one of the large arm chairs placed before the fireplace. Humphrey stood up as well and followed Alec over the fireplace and laid down in front of the fireplace and stretched out in front of it. Alec sat in the oversized armchair and lifted his glass of whiskey to his lips and sipped at it contentedly enjoying the taste and mild burn that crept down his throat as he sipped at it while enjoying the low crackling popping fire.

When Alec had finished enjoying his drink he stood up and looked down at Humphrey who was dozing and nearly asleep in front of the fireplace. As Alec stood up Humphrey opened one eye and looked up at Alec. “Well buddy. What do you think? Time to head to bed?” Humphrey opened his other eye and stood up stretching and rumbled a low growl of ascent. Alec stood up and began walking across the common room toward the cramped stairway that led up to his cramped little room and within his tiny cramped bed within. Alec sighed as he ducked slightly and entered the cramped stairway as he began walking up the stairs his boots again making heavy hollow thuds that echoed off the empty stairway as he made his way up the stairs. As Alec exited the stairway he entered the cramped hallway and and walked the few steps it took him to reach his room halfway down the hall. His boots thumped and echoed as he walked up to the wooden door that led to his room. Alec grasped the door handle and turned the knob opening the door to the tiny room. “Well Humphrey here we are this is home. What do you think?” Alec asked as he stepped aside and let Humphrey walk past him into the small room. Humphrey walked into the room and made a small circuit of the room and growled a low rumble as he padded across the room and laid down ext to the bed curling up and rumbling as he closed his eyes and seemed to go to sleep. Alec shrugged and entered the room. Once he closed the door he opened his inventory and prepared for bed.

Alec crawled into his tiny little bed and lay down. His bed gave it's usual alarming CREAK as he lowered himself on to the wooden bed. Alec lay down and pulled the linen sheet up to his chest as he lay in bed looking at the wooden ceiling in his rent room in one if the many Inns here in the Town of Beginnings. As Alec drifted off the sleep his hand subconsciously draped over the side of his bed and found Humphrey's fur. Alec's hand stroked and intertwined with the bear Cubs fur as Alec slipped off to sleep and began to dream. It was a pleasant dreams Alec was at home in his small town in middle America. He found himself on a warm Summer morning on his garbage route he was holding onto the back if the truck as it zipped down the road. He raised a hand and waved at various people he passed that he knew. There were the Milliers, he waved to the Stones as his truck sped by, he raised a hand and waved to the Young's as he passed them as well.

Alec's truck pulled to a stop in front of the Steven's house and he smiled and waved to Jim as he hoped off the truck and grabbed their can one handed and dumped it in the hopper of his truck. He put the can back as he jumped back onto the back of the truck and it took off again. Again his truck stopped, this time at the Vance's Alec hopped from the rear of the truck as it came to a stop and grabbed the can sitting on the curb and dumped it in the hopper of his garbage truck as he had done numerous times before. Again and again and again Alec's truck slowed to a stop and he jumped off the back and grabbed the garbage can sitting on the curb and he jumped it in the hopper of his garbage truck. Finally his truck stopped at the Swanson house and as Alec hoped off he waved to his friend Ron. As he grabbed Ron's garbage can though he felt himself behind to fall and as he fell the garbage can landed on top of him. Aleve couldn't breath and he couldn't get the can off of him. Aleve awoke with a start terrified for a moment that the garbage was still pinning him down till he realized it wasn't a garbage can laying on his chest it was a bear cub laying across his chest. With one of Humphrey's paws dangling on to the ground. Alec wiggled out from under Humphrey and rolled onto his side sharing the already tiny bed with the bear cub as he drifted back off to sleep.
