[F2-SP] Symphony's Pet <<Feeding Your Familiar>>

Recommended Posts

The wolf grew enraged by Symphony's carefree singing and decided to lunge at her while she was off-guard. However, Symphony was secretly prepared and stabbed the darn thing in between its upper vertebrae once more, paralyzing it again. "Now, that wasn't so nice," she taunted it while dancing in front of the wolf's muzzle. "My singing may be out of practice, but I assure you it's not that bad. Hmph. I guess some creatures have no class." She tried to act serious but ended up laughing hard at her own joke. "Haha, it is quite nice to let loose and not care during battle. In fact, this is getting quite fun," she said while skipping around the frozen beast. It let out a little growl at her, but the poor thing was absolutely helpless while she taunted it.

The wolf was near death now, its coat now caked with dry blood pixels. Symphony was amazed at the effects that the creators of this game had put into the combat and graphics. The clarity and details never ceased to amaze her.

The paralysis effect beginning to wear off, the wolf then fell to the ground, whimpering at its wounds. But it soon got up, afraid to show weakness in front of the enemy. It growled and then lunged again, getting Symphony in the right arm this time, keeping her from swinging her blade. It leaped off at her once it had done some damage and paced around, agitated that its health was so low. "Ah, getting more feisty now that we're closer to death are we? It's interesting how the spirit kicks up when we're so close to losing it all." What she said made her think about Ryu, her lost lover that she had recently discovered again. She wondered when she would see him again. Just thinking about going on a date with him made her heart flutter. Maybe they could and get some food this next time. She was craving some good steak.

The wolf tried to attack her once more, and she parried, too bored to even strike out at the darn thing. "Come on, do some real damage," she pleaded. She starved for a fiercer enemy. It seems like she would need to visit the higher floor soon then if she was to get what she wanted. While pacing with the enemy again, she began to sing once more:

"There goes the baker with his bread like always,

The same good and rolls to seeell.

Every morning just the same,

Since the morning that I came,

To this old provincial town -- "

(mimicking male voice)

"Good morning, Belle!"

"Oh, good morning, monjour!"

"Marice! Hurry Up!"

(mimicking female voices)

"They always say that her name means beauty

lah lah lah lah lah paralleeeell"

Symphony broke down at her making up of words and forgetting them completely. "My oh my. It has been too long since I've heard that music. I'll have to listen to it first thing when I get back to the real world."

The wolf again grew annoyed by her singing and lack of seriousness and struck out again, this time grabbing and dragging her a short distance by her ankle. "Hey, hey, there, you ankle biter!" she yelled while trying to strike the beast in the face with her other foot. The wolf dodged the kick and panted off to a safe distance again. "Ugh, you got me all dirty," she complained. Looking down at her armor, it was stained light brown with dirt and mud. "These stains are gonna be a pain to get out, you know!" She huffed in frustration and stared the wolf down. "You did that on purpose just to make me angry, didn't you? Well, I'll tell you what, that did get me pretty riled up, so you better watch out. It seems like you just want me to end you quicker, huh? You better hope that I don't make it too painful."

Again, the two danced the dance of the fight. Circling around each other while they both searched for openings. However, both opponents were well guarded, and as they clashed again, both bounced off each other harmlessly in defense. The wolf snarled while Symphony grimaced and sighed in frustration. Then the dance continued. Both seemed to be too evenly matched, to the point where Symphony wished another wolf had joined them just for the sport. Then maybe she could have some true fun. However, here they were now, where nothing could be done, so she sucked up her boredom and focused back on the fight, looking for another weak point to strike at. She studied the opponent for a quite a while as they circled around each other. She wanted to get this next shot just right. She would also make sure to take notes of the weak points so that she could create a guide for lower level players like herself.

Finally, Symphony saw her opening and a weak point in the back right leg of the wolf. She quickly dodged around the wolf's quick bite as it noticed where she was focused on. Slash! She cut in deep to the bone and the wolf went down. It took many moments to get back up, and it was limping heavily now, blood droplets beginning to gather on the floor beneath it.

"Don't worry, young one," Symphony said to the suffering animal. "I will try to end this quickly. But you will have to try not to fight, for that will only prolong your own suffering." Though she doubted that the wolf would give up so easily, she did sense that the fight was going to be over sooner rather than later. Taking in a deep breath, she began to focus and think about where the best place to strike would be to end the poor animal's suffering.

First, she struck for the vertebrae at the top of the wolf's spinal column. If she struck there, she knew that the wolf would be paralyzed forever and would not be able to feel pain anymore. If she cut straight through it, the poor thing would be put out of its misery quickly and efficiently.

However, this was not such an easy place to hit, and as she attempted to attack the spot, the wolf used what little energy it had left to dodge to the left away from her blade. Symphony sighed and searched for another place of weakness. There weren't many other places that could bring a nearly painless death like the one between the upper vertebrae. Perhaps straight in the skull? But that would need a great amount of force... She looked down at the dagger in her hand and saw the blunt hilt. With enough force, she may be able to crack the skull with the hilt. Well, there was only one way to find out...

While the wolf was dazed and looking in the other direction, Symphony quickly made her move. She brought the hilt of her dagger hard upon the weak point of the wolf's skull between its eyes. She heard a loud crack and the wolf fell lifelessly to the ground. Sighing, she looked down. Finally, it was over. She regained her composer and watched as the wolf's body disintegrated into pixels and flew past her. As the body dissipated, she bent down to see what the creature had dropped as loot.

Her spirits were quickly lifted as she found that she had earned two T1 materials, some col, and an rare trinket that she could not identify. She would have to bring it by a shop owner later after this was all over. Putting the items into the leather pouch hanging at her side, she continued on, deeper into the mountain range and trees.

As Symphony trekked across the mountainous terrain of the second floor, she noticed the deer around her harmlessly galloping off as she approached. Smiling, she wondered if any of them could be her familiar. However, none were ever brave enough to come to her hand containing the yummy treats. Sighing, she continued onward up the steep slopes and trails. At least the sights around her were beautiful.

After a little while, she stopped by a waterfall and had some lunch. She unwrapped a peanut butter banana sandwich with an apple as a side. Munching on her lunch happily, she admired the clearness of the water as it gathered in a cool pool beneath the falls. She bent down and drank from the fresh water. Sighing happily, she was now refreshed and ready to adventure again. She packed up the sandwich wrappings and stored the trash in her inventory. She also took the opportunity to fill up a few containers with the fresh water of the waterfall.

As Symphony wandered around, searching for a familiar, she also took the time to look for materials that she could craft with. Every since she had opened up her shop on the first floor, it seemed like she was always short on materials. Unfortunately, in the area she was currently in, there were no fresh materials to be found. She took it upon herself to always use the freshest and toughest materials when creating crafts for her customers. Nothing else would do.

She pulled out a book labelled "Lower Floors and Their Hidden Materials" and opened it to the chapter for floor two. "Hm, it seems the most abundant material here are roots, and plants. Oh! It also seems that antlers dropped by the deer are easy to come by as well." She took note of this information and quickly continued on her way. It would be quite the treat if she could find some antlers to make some new needles and tools out of.

As she was venturing down a trail next to a steam, Symphony noticed something white and gleaming in the water. Walking a bit off of the path, she bent over and discovered that the item in the stream was a deer's antler! And a big one at that! Picking it up eagerly, she put it gently into her inventory and jumped up and down and excitement. With this find, she would easily be able to craft a few carving and imprinting tools as well as some sturdy needles that did not easily break nor bend. However, it seemed that the antlers had not come off due to natural shedding during the spring months. Though it was the right season, these antlers had still had a little fur and blood on them. It seemed that the rest of the animal had been dragged away by some predators.

Just as she went to stand up and continue down the trail, she noticed two pairs of glowing eyes staring at her from deep within the brush.

A male alpha wolf followed by his mate stepped out of the brush towards Symphony, their hackles raised. Symphony pulled out her dagger in defense. Immediately, the male attacked to protect his female. Symphony dodged to the left and started to prepare her sword art. Dashing around the male in circles, she slashed into his left and right sides, performing a double attack. The female attempted to protect her mate, but she only bounced off of Symphony's armor. Swinging around to face her in case she decided to attack again, Symphony noticed that the female was a nice white color while the male was a solid black.

Like yin and yang, Symphony thought to herself as she gazed upon the two of them together. The wolves circled back to join each other, the female licked and checking the male's wounds.

As Symphony grew more weary of the white female, the wolf began to circle around her and growl, lowering her head to the floor. Her male counterpart stood farther away, watching as his mate took over. The female then lunged at Symphony, biting into the woman's shoulder and dodging her blow. Symphony wiggled and got the white wolf to let go, a piece of leather coming off in the dog's mouth. The female wolf trotted back over to her partner happily and dropped her prize in front of the male. He seemed to smile at her and licked her nose with affection. Meanwhile, Symphony examined the damage in her armor and noticed a 2 by 2 inch hold where the wolf had bit. It seems her armor would require more patching up when she got back to her shop. After taking note of the damage, she yelled to get the wolves' attention and began to pace around them, looking for an opening.

Now, trying to find an opening between two guarding wolves was not an easy thing to do. And as Symphony soon realized, it proved to be an even greater challenge when one of the enemies became overly aggressive. Crouching down low, the male let out a guttural growl and launched forward, dodging Symphony's attack. He then circled around and attacked her from behind, grabbing her hair in his teeth and yanking her to the ground. "Ouch!" she cried out as the wolf then stood on top of her chest. She kicked him off of her before he could get in another attack and then rolled out of the way quickly. Getting back up, she dusted herself off and got back into position with her dagger at the ready. "You know, you two remind me of me and my own lover. We fight side be side, too. Maybe we'll fall together like you two will one day."

Now it was her turn to attack first. Symphony brought her dagger close to her body and ran at the female wolf, hoping to get to her while she was off guard. However, her mate noticed Symphony's movements and intervened before Symphony could reach the female. He clung to the arm that held her dagger and flung her away from his beloved mate. "Oof!" Symphony tumbled a few feet away and got back up. "Jeez, you have some real grip strength there, bud. But fine. If you want me to leave your good lady alone until you die first, then I will." She then decided to make the male her primary target as it seemed he was more strong willed than his counterpart. If he tried to attack the female, she would most likely get blocked by the faster and stronger male. It was always wise to take the most dangerous opponent out first anyways.

Focusing her sights on the stronger male before her, she decided to use a sword art to help take him down quicker. She paced around him, looking for the correct area to strike. Finally, she saw an opening and began to dash around him quickly, striking both of his back legs with the attack. His rear collapsed and he feel to the ground for a few moments. Seeing her mate in pain, the female growled and lunged for Symphony, striking her in the left leg. Though the attack did some damage, Symphony was not put off balance by the brave female's efforts and merely shook the troublesome thing off of her armor. "Darn, mutt. Get away from me before I attack you, too." If the female became more aggressive, then things might get interesting. However, both were a low enough level that Symphony did not need to fear for her life.

Symphony saw that the male was still shaken from her last attack. Perfect, she thought. Now I still have an opening to get him again. Though the female was now guarding her mate, she still decided to go through with another sword art attack. Again, she dashed around the male, and this time she got him twice along his ribs, making him howl in pain. The white wolf grew enraged and attacked Symphony, knocking her off balance and biting her hand. Luckily, Symphony was wearing protective gloves as part of her leather armor, so her hand was only scratched by the teeth. Pushing the wolf off of her, she checked to make sure that it was only a scratch on her hand and nothing else. Then Symphony backed away, letting the female check over the black wolf's wounds. The black wolf wagged his tail as the white one approached and whimpered as she licked his wounds. Two lovers caring for each other in battle. It was a touching scene to say the least.

Symphony decided to take a break to gather her energy and strength again. Though she knew the wolves would still keep attacking, she knew she could dodge and defend anything they threw at her easily. She backed away from the battle and took a swig of water from her water canister. The black wolf saw this and got up slowly, pacing around her. Symphony was prepared and let him attack her. His bite did not even hurt. She watched as one point of damage was dealt as he bit into her leg. However, her armor was too protective for him to do much, and she just kicked him off as she continued to drink some water. Once she had finished drinking, she wiped her mouth with the back of her hand and put the canister back in her inventory. "Ah, much better." She sighed. She felt much better nearly instantly. Stretching, she flexed her muscles and prepared herself. "Alright, give me what you got, guys."

Quite bored, Symphony charged her blade and charged at the enemies. Unfortunately, her lack of serious seemed to cause her to miss. "Hm, get back her you two!" she yelled. They did circle back to her, but they did so to attack. The two wolves circled around each side, knowing that Symphony could not guard both sides at once. They were finally working as a team, a dangerous and efficient technique with more powerful enemies. The black wolf gave the signal with a flick of his tail, then both of them attacked in sync. The male went for Symphony's right leg and held her down as the white wolf went and bit the back of her neck. Luckily her armor guarded most of the attack, and she shook the female and male off once more. "Ah, getting smarter I see. But not smart enough." She backed up and prepared herself once more.

Luckily, Symphony's armor also had a healing effect that healed her after each attack. These wolf attacks meant nothing to her. In fact, she could have taken at least five of these wolves at a time if she needed to. Stretching, she prepared to attack. When she saw the black wolf lower his guard for just a second, she ran at full speed and slashed him across the muzzle. The wolf immediately snarled and growled in pain, moving to guard the rest of his face with his paw. Seeing that her mate was hurt, the female wolf took her turn to attack again, successfully grabbing Symphony by the arm and forcing her to back up once more. Once Symphony was a safe enough distance away, the female let go and returned to her mate, licking his wounds affectionately. She could tell her mate would not survive much longer if the woman kept attacking.
