[SP/F9] Macradon's Bounty <<Burning Phoenix Feathers>>

Recommended Posts

As Alec contiued through the lava flows of the Ninth Floor his patience and attitude shortened and grew worse as he began kicking chunks or pumice into the lava near him. He had had enough of this stupid heat and the stupid lava and the stupid pumice and the stupid stupid smell of sulfur everywhere. I'm mean seriously he thought to himself. It smells like rotten eggs only worse. He needed to find the last Material soon or his attitude was going to fall completely apart and he might just fly into a rage. He disliked the heat especially when there was no water around to cool off in and there definitely wasn't any water here just more lava and more pumice. Alec couldn't wait to get make to a normal floor one with a normal temperature and normal weather and normal scenery. Seriously they had made a floor that was either hell or the inside of the earth way he thought to himself it was stupid and he hated it utterly and completely. As Alec contiued his search he again came up with nothing.

Alec was quickly reaching his wits end with this floor. He hadn't been searching overly long it was just the combination of the excessive heat coupled with the frustration of minor bouts of fruitless searching. He only needed one more Material but still that one matter seemed a life time away when coupled with the heat and the sheer weight of it all. All he had was one more Material one little Material in this whole vast floor of lava a stinking pumice. Alec bent his nose to the grindstone so to speak and redoubled his efforts of searching trying desperately to find the last Material he needed to complete this half of his quest. He was so close he could taste it he just needed to pin point that last elusive Material. As Alec contiued his search he suddenly spotted something out of the corner of his eye. He had almost missed it but as he turned around he spotted it again laying just under a large piece of pumice. It was a shiny piece of black ore and Alec bent over to pick it up seeing it was indeed another small piece of obsidian. Alec happily placed it in his inventory with the other four and turned smiling to Humphrey. "There it is pal. The last piece. Now let's find us a Phoenix and kick it's butt!" Alec replied enthusiastically as he set off again.

As Alec turned to leave a thought came to him and took his Luck Stone in both hands and held it tightly as he began to look around him. It had been a while since he'd found a Treasure Chest and maybe he was due to find one here so Alec set to the task of searching his surroundings for a hidden or buried Treasure Chest. Alec looked around his immediate vicinity but deep down he knew he was searched out and his heart simply wasn't into searching any more. He wanted to find the Phoenix and he wanted to fight and he wanted to defeat it and he wanted to be done with this Quest and off this ever blessed hot floor. He was done being here and ready to go someplace else. Do in the end Alec failed to come up with anything of value or worthwhile as he gave up his search and opened his inventory to swap out his Luck Stone for his Axe of Rending. As his stone reappeared in his Battle Ready Items list and his serrated battle axe appeared in his hand again Alec turned and set out in search of a Phoenix.

It wasn't long in Alec's search for the Phoenix before he caught the sound of an ear piercing screech not too far away. Alec glanced around and sped up his pace headed in the direction he had heard the cry from. As he continued on he found a outcropping of rock and again the high pitched ear piercing cry resounded again. Alec hustled around the edge of the large rock outcropping and spotted a pool of lava on the other side with a concave wall of pumice and obsidian cupping pool as if a she'll raised up behind it. As Alec glanced around seeing nothing the piercing cry sounded again and suddenly an enormous bird covered on fire and magma burst forth from the pool to hover above flapping it's wings as bits of molten lava dropped free from its body. Quickly Alec opened his inventory and pulled out a +1 Immolation Potion and gulped it down before it was too late as the gigantic bird of fire turned his way and shot him a baleful distaining look.

Alec was awe struck for a moment at the gigantic bird of fires birth from the pool of lava. He had never witnessed anything near as awesome a sight as that. The humongous bird had literally burst forth from a pool of molten hot lava flapping majestically into the air dripping and trailing streams of the super heated substance from its body as it took flight. Alec was so in awe of the creature that his swing was half-hearted at best and missed miserably as he suddenly realized where he was and what was happening he clamped his gaping mouth closed and narrowly managed to raise his shield in time to block the gigantic birds attack at him as he diverted it's lava dripping claws away. He had to get his head in the game if he planned on living to turn this quests rewards over to Macradon.

Alec took a deep calming breath reminding himself that even though this was an extremely impressive creature he was here to kill it and was surely trying to kill him as well. So after a second derp calming breath Alec raised his shield before him in a defensive stance as he brought his Axe of Rending up over his shoulder prepared to swing when the Phoenix moved in for it's next attack. Soon enough the gigantic bird of fire and lava swooped down with it's taking extended and grasping for Alec to tear into his soft unprotected parts. Alec the Phoenix dove down Alec swung his axe around but the gigantic bird was incredibly agile and dodged out of the way of Alec's serrated axe head. As it plummeted closer it's claws scraped and scratched across the surface of Alec's shield and finally grasped around his shoulder guard and sank into the soft flesh below. As the Phoenix withdrew it's claws Alec's shield did it's job and viscously tore into the Phoenix's foot as his Immolation Potion exploded dealing even more damage to the Phoenix as it flapped away, when suddenly Alec felt an itch where the Phoenix had attacked him ad his Battle Healing kicked in and knitted the flesh back together causing Aleve to grin viscously. "Oh it's on now!" Alec exclaimed happily.

Alec had gotten over his initial shock of the pure magnificence of the Phoenix and had settled in to a combat role with the beast it was still impressive and very adept. For such a gigantic creature it was unbelievably agile and nimble. Alec had yet to land a hit on it with his axe but straight out damage really wasn't Alec fighting style. He preferred to allow his enemy to hit him and use his shield to tear back into his combatants. And that's exactly what Alec did. He had worried he might need extra help from his companion Humphrey but so far his Battle Healing was more than covering his damage threshold and Alex was loving it. As the Phoenix dove in again Alec swung his serrated axe head at the gigantic bird but once again it nimbly dodged away and struck again. The Phoenix's massive claws again encompassed Alec's shoulder armor and dug into his chest and back below his armors protection and tore into his flesh. As the Phoenix retracted its claws Alec raked the beast with his saw bladed shield and tore into its flesh as his Battle Healing resealed the wound almost instantly.

Alec contiued to fight the magnificent beast that was the Phoenix. He had yet to land a strike due to the awesome agility of the mighty bird of fire. But his Thorns ability was doing his fighting for him. All Alec had to do was keep getting hit so that his Battle Healing would heal the damage dealt and allow his Thorns to strike back at his opponent with each if their successful hits. Alec lifted his shoulder back up in front if him to bolster his defenses as he raised his viscously serrated battle axe up prepared to swing again when the Phoenix approached. As the magnificent bird of fire dove down Alec swung around with his Axe of Rending but again just as he was about to connect t with the Phoenix it shifted ever so slightly and Alec's swing hitting nothing but open air. The Phoenix continued it's descent again and once more wrapped it's huge talons around his shoulder armor puncturing his chest and back but not before Alec delivered a devastating counter attack with his saw bladed shield that dropped the Phoenix's health bar into the yellow. As the gigantic birds claws withdrew from his body his Battle Healing kicked in and reknit his flesh back together as if it had never been marred in the first place.

Alec's fight against the Phoenix was progressing far better than he could have hoped for. The Phoenix's health bar was in the yellow and his own health bar barely dipped at all before his latest skill Battle Healing reknitted the damage he had taken bumping him back up to full hit points. He had been worried he would have to rely heavily on Humphrey's healing abilities but so far that American bear cub had been able to relax in the background and not have to do anything so far. Alec let a tiny bit if a smile crack the corner of his perpetual scowl as he brought his shield back up in front if himself to continue defending against the Phoenix as he readied his serrated battle axe to swing again when it dove in again. Soon enough the Phoenix again dove in and Alec swung around with his one handed battle axe but again at the last second the Phoenix dodged causing Aleve to narrowly miss his target as the Phoenix sank its humongous claws into Alec's body as they wrapped around the protective armor of his shoulder guards dinking into his chest and back. As the gigantic fire birds claws sank in Alec swung his shield around slashing into the Phoenix's leg with his saw bladed shield dropping it's health bar into the red. As it retracted it's claws and flapped away Alec's skin again began to reknit and heal himself as if the attack had never happened.

Alec's battle against the gigantic bird of fire had been progressing better than he could hoped which is why he wasn't at all surprised when everything nearly fell apart in one fell swoop. Alec's shield had been doing an amazing job of tearing into the Phoenix every time it delivered damage to him. The Phoenix had dropped into the red on it's health bar on the last attack and Alec felt the fight wrapping itself up and coming to a close and that's when all hell broke loose. As the Phoenix dove towards Alec with it's talons extended Alec drew his battle axe back and readied to attack the Phoenix when it approached. As the Phoenix neared Alec swung out but the loose pumice under his footing grated and crumbled causing Alec to loose his footing as he stumbled and neatly fell into the huge pool of lava in front of him that the Phoenix had emerged from. As Alec fell the Phoenix dove through the area Alec had just been slacking itself into the ground with a loud squawk that sounded like a monstrous chicken as it collided with the ground rebounding and flapping into the air.

After the last rounds pitiful showing Alec took a few deep calming breaths to regain control of his pounding heart beat. He had nearly toppled over into the pool of lava before him. He had a strong feeling no amount of Mitigation would have saved him in that instance so he did his best to calm himself and prepare for the Phoenix's next attack as he brought his shield back up in front of himself to defend and drew back his serrated battle axe readying himself to strike again. As the Phoenix dove down again Alec readied himself to strike at the Phoenix. As the Phoenix neared Alec swung out but overextended himself and stumbled again as the pumice again shifted under his footing and Alec began to topple into the pool of lava. As the lava rushed up to meet him the Phoenix's talons dug into Alec's back piercing his skin as the Phoenix struck it flapped it's wings inadvertently pulling Alec up and away from the pool of lava and dropping him on to the hard ground. As Alec flailed around his shield bit into the Phoenix's leg opening another large gash there that dropped it's health bar further towards zero. As Alec stood up his Battle Healing once more kicked in reknitting the damage done by the Phoenix's talons.

As Alec regained his footing on the crunchy pumice he took several deep breaths to calm his nerves after nearly plummeting into the pool of lava before him. The only thing that had saved Alec was the Phoenix and it's gigantic talons biting into his flesh. As Alec regained his composure and control of his mind and body as he stood up and raised his shield before him to defend against the Phoenix. As the Phoenix dove down Alec brought his serrated battle axe back and readied himself to swing when the Phoenix came near. As the giant bird of fire reached Alec he swung out with his Axe of Rending towards the descending Phoenix. As the Phoenix came into range Alec swung round and struck the gigantic fire bird perfectly as his serrated battle axe struck the Phoenix. The Phoenix's toughened skin turned away nearly all of Alec's damage from the initial strike. As Alec pulled his serrated axe head free of the tiny cut his serrated axe head tore a viscous gaping wound in the Phoenix's  leg. As the axe tore loose the gigantic bird began to shake and convulse before exploding into a huge cloud of red and orange pixels that disappeared into nothing leaving behind a shimmering orange and feather where the Phoenix had just been.

As the Phoenix exploded into a cloud of red and orange pixels that disapated into nothing Alec noticed an item left in it's place. Alec slipped his Axe of Rending into the loop at his hip as walked forward and knelt down picking up the item. As he turned it over in his hand he saw an item tag naming the item as Phoenix Feather. Alec smiled to himself as took the item and placed it into his inventory with the five Materials he'd already collected and stood up turning away from the lava pool and began to walk back towards the town of Yogan Village and the Blacksmith who he would turn the quest in to and gain his Name Tag for Macradon's Bounty. All in all the quest had gone much smoother than Alec had originally expected it to and that was just fine by him he thought to himself as he walked away.

As Alec walked away from the Phoenix's pool of lava a thought came to him and he quickly reached out and with an index finger he tapped the button next to his Axe of Rending unequipping his serrated battle axe and then quickly tapping the button next to his Luck Stone equipping the trinket and watched as his item appeared in his opened hand after the heat mirage illusion disappeared. Alec rolled the stone around on his palm as he decided if he was headed back to the village to complete the quest he might as well make use if his time walking and search for useful Materials on his way back. So with a quick flick of his wrist Alec tossed his Luck Stone into the air spinning and twirling to [censored] it deftly from it's downward plummet as he rubbed the stone for good luck as he began making his way towards the town of Yogan Village.

As Alec began making his way back to Yogan Village and his quests completion Alec began searching for some more Materials for himself. If he was truly going to pick up Blacksmithing as a profession he had heard you needed a good base of Materials and Col to do so. Most likely because you would use up most of your Materials in failed crafting attempts trying to level up your craft before you could begin making items at a consistent rate. So Alec began hunting around him in his immediate vicinity searching for anything he could find of value or usefulness. Alec shifted various pieces of pumice around to peer under them and into small nooks and crannies in search of any Materials that might be hidden in his surroundings that he could claim for himself to assist him in his future endeavors. It was only a matter of time before Alec found something that would help aid him in his endeavor.

As Alec entered the town of Yogan Village he made his way to the Blacksmith who had started him on this quest. Once he arrived he entered the man's shop and placed the five Materials and the Phoenix Feather onto the man's counter. "I've gotten your items Sir. No you're up. Please make a Name Tag." Alec requested of the Blacksmith. The man picked up the items and walked into the back of his shop. After a short time the Blacksmith returned with a small item that he placed on the counter with a flourish if his hands. "Good Sir. I present you with one Name Tag. Use it wisely." the Blacksmith offered sagely.  Alec picked up the Name Tag and thanked the Blacksmith for his help as he left the shop and headed for the teleporter and Macradon's Blacksmith shop on the First Floor to redeem his Bounty and its rewards.
