[F01 - SP] <<Training Your Friend>>

Recommended Posts

As Bahr rounded the corner, he honestly couldn't believe his eyes. Right there, out in the open, was a treasure chest! He couldn't believe his luck! He sprinted over toward the mystical box, examining it in an attempt to determine if it was a mimic or not. Try as he might, there wereno outward or otherwise obvious signs that this thing was something that was capable of attacking him. He felt foolish for having not brought along a key. But then again, something like a treasure chest wasn't something that he had been graced with on the first floor before.

He needed to be smart about this, though. His current gear wasn't actually going to improve his chances while opening the treasure chest. And if it did indeed turn out to be a mimic, he would be left with his pants down for having not switched to his combat gear.

Yes, it seemed that the decision was obvious. He was going to need to switch into gear that would help him in a fight if it did indeed turn out to be a mimic. He opened his menu and navigated to the equipment panel, quickly swapping out his lucky gear for armor and a more combat-oriented trinket. He frowned as he did so, remarking on how weak his gear was in comparison to others he had seen. He didn't have a single piece of perfect equipment on him! He would have, had Kit not placed an order for perfect armor before he even had the opportunity to make any for himself. But alas, that was just one of the costs of doing business.

He had heard of a quest, actually, that apparently made it much easier to create higher quality crafts. He figured that would have to be his next quest after this one, provided he was a high enough level to handle it. If he rushed in blindly, well, he might just end up in another Swine Jesus scenario. And nobody wanted that. Except, perhaps, the readers.

As Bahr slowly pried the top of the chest open, it quickly became apparent that it wasn't a mimic. He honestly felt a little bit silly for having worried so much about it, but he was better off safe than sorry.

As he dug into the box, he was disappointed to find that it hadn't exactly yielded much of value. A couple of materials, some unidentified consumables, and a tiny amount of col. Still, it was better than nothing. He stashed the materials into his inventory before continuing along.

It was kind of weird, actually, how he had gotten virtually the exact same quality out of this chest that he had gotten out of his first chest. He remembered it well. That shopkeep from town, Dagger, had asked Bahr to play bodyguard for him on a relatively simple quest. The operation went smoothly, but when they went to open the treasure chest they had found, it had lackluster items inside. Bahr had about the same response then as he had had now. What was all the fuss about this stupid boxes, anyways?

Well, now that that was settled, Bahr figured it was probably time to switch back into his lucky gear. If Swine Bajesus managed to make good use of their next stop, he would be able to retire for the night and not need it. But on the chance that Swine Bajesus failed yet again, he would need to be prepared to continue gathering materials.

He again opened up his menu, navigated to the equipment panel, and changed what he was wearing. On the outside, his overall look didn't change much. But the RNG mechanics were starting to tip back into Bahr's favor, and he could feel it. Not desiring to simply lollygag about, he looked out to the horizon, spotting what he hoped would be their final tree on the evening. The sky was starting to adopt that tangerine glow, which meant Bahr was overdue for food and a little bit of shuteye.

"Alright, buddy. You're up. Make me proud!"

Swine Bajesus emerged from Bahr's pocket with more vigor than it had had the entire day so far. It was ready to chop up some leaves, and it wasn't leaving until the leaves left this, uh, leafy plain. Yeah. That sounded good. Anyways, it struck a determined fighting stance of sorts as it waited for a leaf to fall. It actually ended up waiting for quite awhile, because it took an extraordinarily long length of time for a leaf to fall. It actually began to tremble as it attempted to maintain the pose. Just as its tiny muscles were about to give out, a breeze finally rolled through and knocked a leaf loose, which the tiny boar promptly jumped up to and roundhouse kicked into oblivion.

"Nice work, Swine Bajesus! That oughtta do it!"

The tiny boar happily climbed back up in Bahr's pocket, letting loose an enormous yawn before promptly falling asleep. Feeling a bit sleepy himself, Bahr started his journey back to town with the intention of getting some R&R before his next big quest.
