Summary:

In the vast frozen wastelands of Floor Four there lies the skull of what once must have been a huge beast. Reaching four feet from the ground, with pale ivory coated in a thin blanket of powdery snow, the bone is thick with a huge square jaw that shows off lengthy rows of serrated teeth on each side. Its jaw hangs slack,  Only a few bones have been left scattered around its base, just inviting curious adventurers to investigate. Is this just a piece of the environment, meant to remind players of the dangers and harsh blizzards that sweep through the landscape? Or is it something more?

Outline:

If the giant skull is struck by one of the bones, the <<Frost Beast>> is awakened! It will typically target the person who hit the skull, but players are free to initiate combat (the <<Frost Beast>> does not automatically attack first). Only one <<Frost Beast>> may be spawned/fought in a thread while taking the quest.

The <<Frost Beast>> is a respawning field boss with the following statistics.

Alec awoke in his newly furnished bedroom in his Cabin on the Fourth Floor of Aincrad. Alec opened his eyes and stretched smiling as he failed to touch any edge of the bed. Mornings were so much more pleasant now that he had accomodations that fit his large oversized frame. Alec rolled onto his side and sat up placing his bare feet upon the cool stone floor of his house. The majority of the large man's house was actually a good sized series of hollowed out caves within a mountain on the snow covered floor. Alec padded his way out of the bedroom and through the Living Room into the kitchen where he poured himself a large mug of coffee which he sipped happily as he thought about his options for the day. Then an idea came to him he had taken Kirbs in a quest not too far from his own house to obtain am item to complete a spear he had made for her. His own axe and a Trinket of his could both use a boost now that he thought about it so with a nod Alec downed the rest of his mug of piping hot coffee and turned to walk out of his kitchen.

As the large man walked through his living room he opened his inventory with a quick downward swipe of his extended index finger and began scrolling through his items and equipping his armor and weapon. "Humphrey! Hey Humphrey! Feel like going back to that snow beast here on the Fourth Floor and knocking that quest out again? I could really use its drop to boost some of my gear pal. What do you think?" The large man asked as his American black bear cub familiar walked around the corner if his oversized couch letting out a loud side mouthed yawn. "Yeah, yeah I know it's early pal but if we start now we might be able to hit the quest twice today and boost both items I want to enhance them I'll get a big fat juicy raw steak how about that buddy?!?" The large man asked energetically. Humphrey responded with a loud growl of assent. "That's what I thought buddy." The large man said with a smile as he headed for the front door of his cabin and the snow covered floor beyond.

Fully armed and equipped the large man opened his front door and stepped out into the cold snowy environment of the Fourth Floor closing the door behind himself and his familiar Humphrey. As Alec began walking in the direction of the large skull and strewn bones Humphrey began crashing through the snow banks diving into the large fluffy piles and bursting forth from the opposite side. The sight of the playful bear cub always made Alec smile as he watched the carefree cub bound and play in the high fluffy drifts of snow ever present throughout the Fourth Floor. Alec chuckled as he watched his familiar growl and pounce dive head first into large drifts of snow bursting free of the other side with more attempted fierce growls. The scene really was very pleasant like an overly excited and comical dog but in a bear cubs body. Alec smiled at his dearest and closest friend as the pair neared their goal.

Alec and Humphrey made their way into the open area ringed by mountains where Alec had brought Kirbs to fight the snow beast and attain the Essence of Steel to complete the spear Alec had made for her in Macradon's shop. As he approached he spotted the gigantic skull again and the large bones littered around it. As the large heavily muscled man walked forward he leaned over grasping one of the gigantic bones in a large hand as he continued walking towards the skull. When he reached the skull he stopped spreading his feet wide and bringing the bone up in both hands like a batter at the plate ready for a pitch. The large man swung the bone like a club in both hands striking the skull solidly with a resounding tone like that of a gong that rang and reverberated off the high rock cliffs around him as he dropped the bone and turned ready for the sight he knew he'd see.

As the large man turned away from the bone skull the going like note dying out Alec spotted the snow beast standing before him. The heavily muscled man stepped forward raising his razor sharp saw bladed shield before him as he left his Forearm Axe hanging loosely behind him. As Alec stepped forward towards the snow beast his large booted foot landed on an exposed patch of ice. The slippery surface caused Alec's foot to shoot out in front of him in an ungainly mockery of a high kick as began sliding and slipping his arms spinning circles to try regaining his balance. In the end all was for not as the large man went completely vertical slamming to the snow flat on his back as the wind was knocked out of him. The snow beast tensed to pounce but as it leaped it's paws lost traction and it too began to slip and slid as it crashed twisting and tumbling landing in a heap curled up against the large man, it's head resting upon his chest as if the pair were cuddling.

Large man and beast both scrambled to their feet looking sheepish and embarrassed at the situation. Alec began hastily brushing snow from himself as the snow beast performed a full body shake ridding itself of any snow stuck in its fur. As Alec finished he cleared his throat. "Yeah so that never happened let's try this again. Alright?" The large man asked as he eyed the Snow Beast. The snow beast responded with an akward nod which Alec returned as he stepped forward trying to activate a Sword Art but the game system failed to respond causing Alec to miss his swing as his reactions were slowed due to the failure. The Snow Beast responded by diving towards the large man and taking him with its jagged claws tearing into the flesh of his body. Alec took the opportunity to swing his razor sharp saw bladed shield around and slicing into the Snow Beast in return opening his own large cut in the beasts body which leaked red pixels into the air.

Alec eyed the Snow Beast warily. The creatures last attack had done a fair bit of damage to him, not enough to actually worry about but just enough to give him pause and certain level of respect. Alec nodded at the Snow Beast as he activated a Sword Art causing the crescent shaped axe heads affixed to his forearm to begin glowing and vibrating as the energy built up within them. As the energy level peaked lighting began to dance and play across the surface of his axe heads as Alec swung his arm out in a wide arc slicing deeply into the beast as lightning arced from his weapon to the Snow Beast shocking it and dropping it's health bar further as red pixels escaped from the wound. Alec's mighty blow caused the Snow Beast's legs to crumple as it was driven into the soft snow burying it. As the Snow Beast dug itself free it lunged at the large man but tripped as it exited the hole twisting and tumbling landing I'm a pile of fur and limbs and teeth at the feet of the oversized heavily muscled Tank.

Alec stood his ground eyeing the Snow Beast as now it took up the wary eyeing of it's opponent. The large man stood before the Snow Beast breathing evenly as he held his shield forward in defense with his Forearm Axe hung loosely at his side ready to swing as soon as the Snow Beast presented a gap in its defenses. As the Snow Beast rushed forward Alec calmly activated another Sword Art again causing his Forearm Axe to begin glowing and vibrating as the energy level within increased. When the energy had reached its peak lightning began to spark and race across the crescent shaped axe heads. Alec swung his arm out it a wide arc chopping deeply into the Snow Beast with a perfect strike which caused the Snow Beast's health bar to drop from the yellow range into the red level bringing a smile to the large man's face as he readied for the close to this fight.

Alec stood ready with his shield held up before himself waiting for the Snow Beast to make its move. As the Snow Beast approached Alec quickly activated a Sword Art causing his Forearm Axe to begin glowing and vibrating as the energy level began to grow within the weapon. As the energy level reached its maximum level lightning began to dance and spark across the battle axe's crescent shaped axe heads. Alec swung his arm out in a wide arc chopping deeply into the Snow Beast hacking away a large chunk of the creatures body and opening a large gash in its hide that vented red pixels from the wound into the air. The Snow Beast roared in pain and lashed out at the large man raking his body. The heavily muscled Tank's heavy armor took the brunt of the damage but the creature had a special ability that allowed a good chunk of damage to slid through his armor. Alecs Battle Healing kicked in and fought the damage but only managed to lessen its impact as he swing his razor sharp saw bladed shield around slicing clean through the Snow Beast causing its body to begin shaking and vibrating before it eventually exploded into a shower of pixels that rained down around Alec.

As the Snow Beast exploded into a shower of pixels that rained down Alec spotted the quest reward lying on the ground where the Snow Beast had just been. The large heavily muscled man walked up and picked up the <<Essence of Steel>> and placed it into his inventory for later use. The large Tank intended to use the item to boost a Trinket of his but wasn't sure exactly what Enhancement he wanted to add to the item. He could add Evasion and bring his current Evasion score up to zero from its current -1 , thanks to his Stonewall mod. He could add Accuracy but he really had no need for that in all honesty. Alec would have to put some serious thought into the issue before he made any serious decisions on the matter he told himself as he also switched out his Forearm Axe out for his Luck Stone to boost his chances of finding some Materials on his way home.

Alec pocketed his quest reward and turned away from the Snow Beast's spawning area and began walking away into the snow covered terrain of the Fourth Floor. As the large heavily muscled man made his way through the snow he hunted and searched for any usable Materials that might be hiding in the snow. As Alec walked and searched he was unable to find any items of any use as he walked. With a shrug Alec gave up his search for the time being and merely enjoyed his walk through the soft high drifts of powder. The large man watched as his companion once more began bounding through the piles of snow and exploding out the opposite sides. The antics of the American black bear cub never failed to lighten the large man's mood as he watched his familiar romp and play amidst the high soft fresh drifts of snow.

The large man continued his walk through the deep drifts of snow as he glanced around searching for useful items. As Alec walked along he caught a flash out of the corner of his eye and walked over next to a nearby tree and bent down inspecting what he saw. The large man reached out to a flower that looked like an Iris but the petals were a vibrant light blue almost the color of fresh ice. The large man reached tentatively and plucked the flower from the snow and placed it into his inventory as he stood up and contiued his peaceful pleasant walk through the snowy landscape of the Fourth Floor. Alec smiled as he glanced over to his familiar. "How are you doing there pal?" The large man asked as he gazed lovingly at his closest and truest companion here within this death game known as Sword Art Online.

Alec continued his walk through the Fourth Floor enjoying his home floor and its perpetual snow and cold weather. It was constantly winter here on the Fourth Floor and Alec loved that. Now Alec enjoyed Summertime as well but he didn't handle heat well or being hot well unless he had a swimming hole and tall glass of iced tea or lemonade. So Alec had made his decision when it came time to purchase a house and he had selected the Fourth Floor and it's constant snow and cold wintery weather over any of the other floors to make his home and he hadn't had a negative thought on the issue since making up his mind and building his home. He had chosen an out of the way corner of the floor to ensure his privacy. If anyone came looking for him they'd have to traverse nearly the entire floor to find the large man's cabin and the site of his future Blacksmith shop, that was once he finally got the darned thing started.

Alec continued his walk through the snow covered terrain of the Fourth Floor of Aincrad. As the large heavily muscled man walked along he kept his eyes peeled for any items of value height be able to spot. When you had a profession you never truly could have too many Materials the large man thought to himself as he walked along. Humphrey was currently taking a break from attacking the many drifts of snow and plodded along quietly beside his friend and companion. Alec reached down absent mindedly and began scratching the American black bear cub behind the ears and on the thick nape of his neck. The beats fur coat was thick and luxurious. The physical contact with his familiar made the large man smile to himself as he walked along side by side with closest friend and companion. The pair continued to stroll through the snow covered surroundings list in thought and walking purely by instinct alone.

Crafting Materials were imperative and no matter how many you had it seemed you could always use a few more the large man thought to himself as he walked along enjoying the crisp bite to the air and the prickling of his flesh due to the coldness of the temperature. As he walked along he spotted a silvered chink of ore half buried in the ground poking free of a snow drift. Alec walked over and grasped the chunk of ore prying it free from the ground and inspecting it with a smile before he placed the Material into in his inventory and stood up continuing on his travels away from the Snow Beast's lair and towards his own home in one of the distant corners of the Fourth Floor of Aincrad.

Crafting Materials were imperative and no matter how many you had it seemed you could always use a few more the large man thought to himself as he walked along enjoying the crisp bite to the air and the prickling of his flesh due to the coldness of the temperature. As he walked along he spotted a blue and white glowing orchid type flower half buried in the ground poking free of a snow drift. Alec walked over and grasped the exotic flower by stem and pulled it free from the ground and inspected it with a smile before he placed the Material into in his inventory and stood up continuing on his travels away from the SnowBeast's lair and towards his own home in one of thedistant corners of the Fourth Floor of Aincrad.

As the large heavily muscled man walked along the snow drift covered floor he kept his eyes peeled for any items of value he might be able to spot. When you had a profession you never truly could have too many Materials the large man thought to himself as he walked along. Humphrey had finished taking a break from attacking the many drifts of snow and was once again pouncing and diving into the large fluffy drifts with reckless abandon. The sight of the young American black bear cub bounding and cavorting through the large drifts of fresh fluffy powdery snow never ceased to cause the large heavily muscled man to smile at the antics and playfulness of the young bear cub.  Alec continued to stroll through the snow covered surroundings lost in thought and walking purely by instinct alone as he followed the young bear cub.

As Alec came within sight of his cabin he took the chance to search for a Treasure Chest because who couldn't use a few extra Col, Materials and equipment the large man thought to himself as he walked along. Humphrey had finished taking a break from attacking the many drifts of snow and was once again pouncing and diving into the large fluffy drifts with reckless abandon. The sight of the young American black bear cub bounding and cavorting through the large drifts of fresh fluffy powdery snow never ceased to cause the large heavily muscled man to smile at the antics and playfulness of the young bear cub.  Alec walked up to the front door of his cabin and opened the door holding it open for his familiar Humphrey then stepped inside himself closing the door behind the pair as he stomped snow free from his boots and clothes before continuing inside for done much deserved rest and relaxation.
