[F22 - SP] <<King of Lakes>>

Recommended Posts

And then it happened. The perfect moment to strike. Finally. Bahr's weary joints creaked in protest to his movement as he very suddenly lashed out, charging his blade as it sailed through the air and connected with its target. Just as it had the times before, it went skipping across the lake before becoming fully submerged. Bahr was pleased to watch its health bar dip into marginally less than a quarter full. He was finally starting to make some real progress - a couple more smooth hits like that and this would be over.

He cast a grin toward Pete, but found that the old man had fallen asleep waiting for something to happen. Probably for the best. His loud mouth had been distracted Bahr through the majority of the fight. If he could just stay asleep through the rest of it, maybe the Crimson Marauder could actually focus a bit and land more hits without getting practically eaten alive.

It seemed like it took longer this time around for the overgrown fish to reveal itself. Was it more sluggish from the combat, or had it finally decided to quit showing up?

Nope, it was definitely still around. Just taking its sweet time.

Bahr employed the same strategy as before - smack fish, watch it skip away, and then wait. The technique had only backfired on him once by now. As the creature sunk back into the murky depths of the lake, Bahr inspected its health bar with furrowed brows, unable to tell if one more attack was going to do the trick. He surmised that with a normal hit, it would probably survive. Barely. If he got a crit, it would definitely die - either from the damage or from the Bleed that followed.

Still, what a long and drawn out battle. There was really no reason for it to have taken as long as it had. The staring contest hadn't helped. Without Bahr realizing it, time had crawled into the late afternoon, and the sky was beginning to adopt a crimson hue.

Once again, the same strategy worked. Which was wonderful, but the fact that the beast clung to life with only a sliver of its HP remaining irked Bahr. It wasn't that he didn't respect the thing's staying power, just that he wanted to be done already. Why continue to carry along with this trivial pursuit if both parties knew what the final outcome would be? Well, not that the fish was probably thinking anything, anyways. It seemed just as mindless as the rest of Aincrad's mobs, mindlessly following the same aggro table. At least the Butcher of the Sands knew how to shake it up a bit.

Speaking of, how long ago had that been? Hell, he must have been a Tier Oner when that happened. Wow, what a different time that had been. Low damage, inadequate weaponry and general gear. Bahr cringed when he thought back on how noobish he was at the time. Would he look back on times like now and cringe at how poorly he had handled it?

By the time the King of Lakes emerged for its final trek across dry land, night had almost fallen on the floating castle Aincrad. Going for a lower energy Sword Art this time around, Bahr charged up his blade and let the system do the rest of the work. Three undercut sweeps later, the beast had been flung in a vertical arc into the air, where it burst into a cloud of blue polygonal confetti.

Shortly thereafter, a loot panel populated and informed Bahr of his spoils. A T3 consumable. Great, he couldn't even use the damn thing until several levels down the road. Oh well, there was a chance it could come in handy for something someday. As he dismissed the panel, he cast a glance toward Pete, who was still snoozing in his chair at the dock. What a shame for him to miss out on the finale of the battle he had waited so long to behold. Oh well, not Bahr's problem.

It was time for him to get home.
