A large field lush with grass and flowers, a faint opening above where streams of sunlight beamed through to the ground like a golden aurora, a single large tree with emerald coloured leaves sat at the end of the opening, skirting the edges of the clearing were more trees, their branches seemed to hold up the sky of this grove, large jagged green crystals growing at their bases. To the uninitiated, this was a beautiful scene, but Rei and Yuta knew better as they exchanged a solemn glance and nod, this, was a boss arena. A large open area for them to conduct the fight against the formidable foe “You guys should get ready,” Rei warned as he and Yuta drew their weapons and scanned the area around them, “What are you talking about?” Takumi frowned, he couldn’t see a single enemy here, Link to post Share on other sites
Tsurei 0 Posted February 11, 2020 Author #22 Report Share Posted February 11, 2020 That is, until his eyes fell upon a small dragon, slumbering at the base of the giant tree, the dragon was small and cute, almost like it was plushie or even a painting, he could see it’s glimmering scales, the soft pale underbelly, the leathery wings it was wrapped up in, the black horns and claws. But it’s chest was rising slowly, up and down, it was alive without a doubt. The creature was small, no bigger than a young child less than 3 years of age, but the stats recorded in the guidebook came to mind, this little thing was a capable powerhouse and they had to be careful. The four of them slowly approached it, weapons and shields raised, the moment they stepped across the threshold, at the centre of the grove, the dragon’s eyes flew open. It promptly stood up on it’s legs with a lazy yawn before it noticed them and unleashed a thunderously loud screech that forced the four of them to cover their ears in pain, when they looked back over, the dragon was in front of them standing fiercely and fangs bared. Tsurei 0 Posted February 11, 2020 Author #23 Report Share Posted February 11, 2020 (edited) Well, he said it was right in front of them, but in truth it was still a good few meters away, it was just that despite it’s small body, it ferocious screech and sheer presence made it seem much closer and overbearing, from this distance, they couldn’t hit it with a weapon, but Rei lunged forward regardless, with the others barely able to extend their hands out in an attempt to stop Rei’s apparent recklessness. His graceful azure blade flashed outward, the water lashing out in trailing arcs, carried upon the wind of his one and only ranged Sword Art, Tsuji Kaze – Whirlwind. With blade glowing neon blue, the cut sent a projected slash out like a beam towards the dragon, cutting into the creature harshly with a red gash across it’s body that grew steadily more red from the impact that sent it reeling back. Tsurei 0 Posted February 11, 2020 Author #24 Report Share Posted February 11, 2020 (edited) He smirked with satisfaction when he saw the Dragon’s health bar slowly drop, it wasn’t much but it was definitely something, he was too lax in his thinking as the dragon shot forward like a bullet in retaliation, zipping by like a spirit of the wind, tearing into his shoulder and causing his body to turn with the impact. “Guh!?” he grunted in pain, it really felt like a bullet impacted into his shoulder when he was wearing bulletproof armour, or, something along those lines, he hasn’t been shot before after all. “Rei!” the others cried out in alarm but they couldn’t reach him in time, the dragon was zipping by through the air like a whimsical bullet, tens of clashes were executed between the other three, sparks flying as the dragon bounced off the shields and armour, sometimes receiving a red grace in return from their counter attacks that was more akin to flailing around. Tsurei 0 Posted February 11, 2020 Author #25 Report Share Posted February 11, 2020 (edited) A loud high pitched metallic sound cried out, like a `Ping!` as Kenji reflexively brought his shield up to block when the dragon zipped towards his face, the direction that it was sent to however was straight towards Rei who was still wide eyed with surprised, everyone’s been hit at least once by now in that flurry of exchanges, they all knew how it felt, now that he accidentally redirected it towards an ally, they had a even less window of opportunity to react than when the dragon had to turn in the air to re-target. Breaths caught in their chests, they could only watch was Rei whipped to face the dragon, raising his blade he slashed horizontally across his body, his blade whistling through the air as it catches the emerald dragon mid flight, barely clipping the wing, but it was enough to cause it to stumble in the air, falling to Rei’s spinning kick, bouncing back from the strike, Rei took hold of his katana with both hands and gave a forceful slash diagonally at the dragon, crashing into it, causing it to slam into and bounce off the ground. Time seemed to slow down for Rei alone as he watched the dragon bounce through their air, wearing a pained expression, the pain in Rei’s shoulder was numbing and fading thanks to the regeneration enhancement he got, as he watched the dragon bounce up into the air helplessly, Rei felt an inspiration rise in his body and mind, a combo was underway, His left hand let go of his katana and grasped at his waist, drawing the scabbard and reversing it into his grip like he would hold a sword, using that blunt weapon he charged it and smacked the dragon higher into the air with an underarm swing, the object trailing blue in the air, the traces of an Art. Tsurei 0 Posted February 11, 2020 Author #27 Report Share Posted February 11, 2020 (edited) As the dragon tumbled through the air, spinning, inflicted by two stun effects in a row left it utterly helpless for Rei to strike it down, normally he’d think twice about using such high energy cost skills, but thanks to his new skill he got from the exp gained from the Secret Medicine quest, he gained the modifier Finesse, which lowered the energy cost of Arts which he promptly levelled up fully. With the dragon floating in the air, Rei crouched down, not yet finished with his combo, he put all his energy into the jump and leapt as high into the air as he could, the next Art activating as he spun in the air at various angles, his blade lashing out and tracing blue in the air, the water lashing from the blade made it seem like a ritualistic dance of unparalleled violence, whilst in reality it was a near drunken tumble through the air that went with momentum to strike at his opponent a number of times, ending with a vicious downward chop, sending him and the dragon back to ground. Tsurei 0 Posted February 11, 2020 Author #28 Report Share Posted February 11, 2020 (edited) Rei let out a held breath, exhausted and his breath almost held all of his tension and he nearly slumped over from the exertion of consecutive Arts like that, energy bar aside, Wa Shu’s acrobatic sequence of attacks made him - a normally utterly clumsy being in capable of a simple front or back flip - incredibly queasy. As he struggled with whether or not to hurl, the dragon recovered in mid air and charged at Rei’s chest, aiming for a vengeful strike, but Rei was barely able to muster the energy and unleash two impossibly quick slashes, each other just about countering the dragon’s claws lashing out at him, with two sharp pings, the dragon flew past him barely harmed but deflected. It turned it’s sights towards the others and quickly engaged them in a losing battle, against Yuta, he would counter, dodge and block, otherwise finding ways to retaliate, whittling it’s health bar down rapidly. Meanwhile Takumi’s shield meant that any attack upon him hurt it more than it would hurt him, it could kill him if it persisted, but with it’s health already so low and the thorns utterly ignoring it’s dragon scales’ defensive measures, it needed another target. Leaving only Kenji. Tsurei 0 Posted February 11, 2020 Author #29 Report Share Posted February 11, 2020 (edited) For a while, Kenji could only raise and hold his shield, weathering the blow upon blow from the dragon as it rushed by, almost as if playing with a pinball, Kenji on the other hand felt like he was in the middle of a hurricane, being thrown this way and that by the forces of nature unable to resist as much as he tried, even in his heavy armour, he constantly felt the danger of being struck so hard he was lifted off the ground. When the dragon swooped into the air for a powerful downward strike, gathering momentum and letting it all accumulate into a powerful strike, Kenji instinctively felt the delay between the attacks and noticed something was off, squeezing his eyes shut, he unleashed an Art. Horizontal Square. His single handed longsword became encased in a golden light as his body reflexively struck outwards, a series of quick 4 slashes that formed a square in the air at the end of the strikes, the Sword Art crashed into the dragon who had fallen into the attack, leaving it utterly stunned. Victory was at hand. Kenji quickly lashed out, tracing a thick glowing V in the air in the aftermath of his twin powerful slashes from Vertical Arc, the impact of the strike sent the Dragon upwards through the air and reeling away from him. Despite being the furthest one away, Yuta was the one to strike next, leaping and spinning through the air, his right leg became encased in a fierce steel grey energy as he slammed his foot into the dragon, sending it impacting into the ground and bouncing upwards helplessly from his Tornado Kick. Yuta threw himself out of the way just in time was Takumi charged forward and struck the dragon hard with a swiping slash with the tip of his spear blade, trailing a beautiful wide green arc through the air, slamming into the dragon with Maiming Blow and sending it flying towards Rei. Tsurei 0 Posted February 11, 2020 Author #31 Report Share Posted February 11, 2020 (edited) Over at him, Rei had just finished tracing the air in a circle for Gen Getsu, raising his glowing katana high in the air, he slammed it down into the dragon, receiving it with a whole bucket of pain was his blade tore into the poor little creature’s body and sending it far into the red as the body crashed past behind Rei. The explosions and impacts from their numerous strikes were incredible and awe-inspiring, it certainly didn’t give the image of 4 weak, barely starting adventurers who were nervous about being slaughtered by a little dragon, now it seemed like they were busy bullying the dragon. As the creature weakly flew into the air flapping with it’s torn up leathery wings, it gave them a look of horror and fear before it tried to flee, wait, boss enemies can flee!? “No you don’t!” Rei roared out, lashing out with a glowing blade as a watery arc shot through the air like a bullet, carried by barely visible shockwaves of wind and energy and tore into the dragon’s fleeing back, impacting it and causing it to crash to the ground before it shattered into nothingness. They just won? Their worries were appeased by the beep of the quest update, they had completed the quest. The four of them exchanged glances before unsummoning their weapons and high fiving each other, “Hell yeah!” Rei cried out in celebration and unrestrained joy, it was an exhilarating fight, sure, in a sense, they were overpowered for the fight and hadn’t come close to dying, but that dragon’s speed and impact was nothing to scoff at, it certainly didn’t make them feel like it was easy at least, with their shoulder’s and guts aching from when the dragon headbutted them. Everyone’s face was wide and brightly shining with huge grins, all of them had lost themselves for a moment and simply indulged in a earned victory, the celebration went on for a little while longer before Yuta brought them back, “Now, all we have to do is pick up that Emerald,” he jabbed his finger up to the base of the tree, indeed, the dragon had been sleeping on a small pile of 4 emerald gemstones, the actual objective of the quest, “Yeah, let’s go nab that and head back for dinner!” Rei announced with a fist pump into the air, accompanied by the shouts of his friends in full agreement, “Yeah!” ID# 135730 LD: 3 = Mimic Edited February 11, 2020 by Tsurei Link to post Share on other sites

Somewhat confused since it didn’t appear when they killed the dragon but rather the moment they picked the emerald up and went to leave, they still couldn’t help but be excited for it, it would the first time in a long time since they got any loot at all. The four of them walked over and Rei quickly opened it up, but their faces went from excitement and anticipation to heartfelt horror in less than a second as the rim of the chest grew rows of sharp teeth, the open chest revealed the interior of a large thick tongue and the interior of a mouth. A Mimic. The Mimic immediately jumped out at Rei who was the closest and opened it’s maw wide, impossibly so and tried to chomp on him. What the hell!?“ Waving his hand frantically to get the mimic to let go certainly didn’t work out, the mimic was surprisingly heavy and despite his best efforts it didn’t go anyway, “get the hell off me!” yelling out with anger in an attempt to fight through the pain, he slammed the pommel of his katana into the centre of the wooden chest, causing the wood to creak and snap, denting inward with a spray of splinters, just that wasn’t enough to get the mimic to let go, grunting with efforts Rei brought the mimic downwards and impacted it with his knee as hard as he could, the moment the mimic let go and reeled back through the air, finally striking out with his katana, taking a line across it’s face with the last hit of the Rasetsu combo. Tsurei 0 Posted February 11, 2020 Author #35 Report Share Posted February 11, 2020 (edited) As the creature sailed through the air front the successive impacts of the sword art, Two attempted to follow up with Ukifune, grasping the scabbard of his katana from his belt, slipping it out in a drawing upward diagonal strike, hoping to launch the mimic into the air for follow up attacks, however the mimic avoided it with a graceful ease, backflipping and at the same time extended put two pairs of long, gangly limbs. It grew arms and legs with the toothy chest as the head, the creature landed almost reminiscent of a spider before standing up with a growl, standing nearly 3 meters tall, staring down at them with a looming shadow. The mimic suddenly leapt forward, its foot swept out in a spinning roundhouse kick that impacted the entire party due to its long limb throwing them all in several directions, sailing through the air in recoil or scraping along the ground. At that moment, Takumi didn’t miss his chance he was close by the mimic when it stumbled backwards, he raised his spear and swiped sideways unleashing his art with a trail of green light, slashing into the creature’s ankles sweeping it’s feet out from under it. Tsurei 0 Posted February 11, 2020 Author #37 Report Share Posted February 11, 2020 (edited) As it was launched through the air helpless, Rei slashed with his blade, sending out another shockwave of energy in a wide arc that is projected forward, cutting into the mimic and splitting it in half , the two separate parts drifted and floated in the air before shattering into pieces of light and disappearing leaving only a window that informed them of the loot and exp they obtained. “bloody hell, that was scary,” Rei grumbled with a annoyed frown, the glanced at his health bar and vaguely thought back to the chunk of damage the mimic dealt to him in that one bite, he was sure that the mimic was actually stronger than the dragon they just fought, but it was easier to kill because normal monsters lacked a mitigation or armour value. “what was that?” Kenji ran over alarmed he was too stunned to do anything to help during that fight but the image of a wooden chest coming alive to eat them was seared into his mind. It gave us some money and random materials, it doesn’t seem that bad, it gave us extra col than usual,” Kenji looked at them confused, “well, I mean, chests usually give us things like unidentified potions and weapons, according to the loot chart, we got the worse drop,” Rei shrugged with a exasperated sigh, “So then... we’re still heading back?” Yuta looked over between them somewhat unsure, “yeah, of course, let’s just head back, I’m exhausted,” Rei groaned, slumping over with a deep sigh, Link to post Share on other sites
Tsurei 0 Posted February 12, 2020 Author #39 Report Share Posted February 12, 2020 As they walked back through the gloomy forest, it was nice to have it transition from dark thick forest to the lighter and wide open areas, no more silence with only the creepy wind and rustling leaves to surround them, the ground was less barren, twisted and uneven, though the roots were still present on the surface making walking freely a bit more difficult than normal, it was still an improvement. Though they were headed into the less densely covered area of the forest, the light fading across the horizon made it seem all the same to them, the setting sun casting a golden red light over them, if they looked too deeply into it they would feel that it was vaguely ominous and a sign of things to come in the future, but the four of them were still jubilant about their combat with the emerald dragon, the surprise with the mimic made them a bit apprehensive, but in the end that was a good fight for the day. Tsurei 0 Posted February 12, 2020 Author #40 Report Share Posted February 12, 2020 The little emerald dragon that zipped around through the air, protected by it’s still immature scales, it’s speed with it’s size made it seem truly like a indestructible bullet that freely changed trajectory constantly, striking them like a strong punch, enough to wind them if hit in the wrong spot, with it zipping around at high speed made it seem even more overwhelming, it was lucky for them that the dragon’s attacks was spread out over the four of them, if it had focused solely on one person, it would be near impossible to defend yourself against all of it’s rapid strikes. The only hope in that situation would be that the dragon would get tired and give the player a chance to relax and breathe, though, at their level, simply ignoring it in favour of dealing damage towards it would work as well. Rei vaguely feared that the players of the game were too reliant on Arts to simply deal the highest amount of damage instead of nicely comboing them, even using the lower sword arts for the suitable situation, Link to post Share on other sites
