[PP-F6] Feeding the Enemy (Miaki, Nikki)

Recommended Posts

Nikki looked confused as she thought about it for a moment. She couldn't recall, but to be on the safe side she opened her journal. She took some time to scroll through the various quests and achievements she had accepted, and eventually rested on one that was still incomplete. <> She took a few moments to read through it, Vaguely remembering the circumstances to which she had received it. Something about a gypsy and something or other. It had been a long time ago, and it certainly wasn't something she had deemed important is it was still incomplete.

She took another moment now pulling up her inventory. The quest had mentioned a food item, now she needed to see if she still had it. Another few moments of searching revealed a bag labeled <>. That was a very vague description at best, but it was linked to the quest so it had to be relevant. "So what? I just give this to it and that's it?" To be honest the entire quest seemed like a stretch, but she had seen other players with familiars so it had to be legit.

Suddenly though now the gravity of what was going on sank in. Miaki was suggesting she complete the quest with the boar. gaining the Dire Boar as a familiar? Was that even possible? What would she do with an animal like this? Or rather what couldn't she do? The possibilities were endless with something like this. "OK... Lets try it." She said in an uncertain voice. Nikki took a moment to equip the bag of animal food and began to make her way around to the boars face. She knew to be careful as one good thrash good leave her wounded on those monster tusks.

"Alright.. Its ok..." She whispered as she slowly crouched down beside it. Like this it didn't look so intimidating, in fact it was almost passive. She took a few moments breathing to try and calm herself down before reaching into the bag and pulling out what looked like a giant mushroom. The food must have adapted to whatever animal the owner was interacting with, because she was certain that a wolf or falcon was not interested in Mushrooms. Nikki took one more deep breath before gently holding the mushroom to the boars snout, praying it didn't choose this moment to get angry again. It hesitated, sniffing at first and then greedily snatching the mushroom from her hand. Moments later a flash occurred and Nikki could see a new set of stat bars. They belonged to the boar.

Miaki stood there silently as Nikki took her time checking her menus in game. Miaki held his blade up just in case something went wrong at this very moment. If the <> were to suddenly get a second wind and attack them both with renewed strength both he and Nikki would be in a world of hurt. There were few things more dangerous than a wounded animal. Miaki eyed the boar and positioned himself right behind it's neck, giving him a clear shot if things were to go wrong.

The boar gave little acknowledgement to Miaki's presence behind it's head. Holding his katana inches away Miaki prayed that everything would go smoothly for them. He didn't know how long it was that Nikki spent inspecting what he assumed was the plethora of knowledge available to players in the info brokers database. But when she seemed to be done she pulled out a small bag and walked closer to the boar. Inching his weapon closer to the beast's fur Miaki held his breath and frantically shifted his eyes between Nikki and the boar between them.

She bent down to the beast's snout and fed it what Miaki thought was a mushroom or something. The boar began to munch on the food and Miaki noticed his hands were trembling. He tried to steady himself but couldn't shake the idea of Nikki getting hurt when she was relying on him. He suddenly heard a feint chime and saw a new health bar added to his field-of-vision. "It worked! Oh thank God!" Miaki forgot he was holding his breath and told himself to breath again.

"You did it!" Miaki shouted as he sheathed his blade and ran around the giant boar. He hugged Nikki tightly confirming that she wasn't going anywhere. "That's such a relief. Oh you have no idea how worried I was Nikki." He stared Nikki in the eyes with his blue-green eyes showing signs of relief in his expression. He squeezed her again. "Im so glad you are okay." He kept reassuring himself that everything was fine and after awhile he finally let go of Nikki and stepped back.

Observing the newly formed ally, Miaki's falcon got off from his shoulder and flew around the boar looking at it before finally landing on it's snout. "Your friend is gonna need a name Nikki. You have one in mind yet?" He asked looking back at the spear using fighter.

Nikki wasn't entirely sure what to do next. She just stood there now, staring at the giant animal and questioning what had really happened. She had to recap everything in her mind once or twice. First she had knocked it over, then she had fed it, and now it was a pet? It felt too weird, almost like a dream. "If yer a familiar... then... Get up." It was all she could think of saying to the beast, and when it refused to listen it would prove that this wasn't real. The boar looked at her and slowly got to its feet, shaking its massive shoulders while it did so. It was acting with control and composure. This was surely not the same boar they had just fought.

Nikki looked around now as if expecting someone to jump out of the bushes and announce that she had been tricked, but no one did. This was real. This was eerily real. She, Nikki Styx, Had a Dire Boar as a familiar. There were so many applications that this could have. Suddenly she had a permanent partner that rivaled even herself. He was large, incredibly so, and strong, He could push and pull things that obstructed her. He was intimidating, to say the least.

Nikki had been lost in her thoughts when she heard Miaki speak, asking if she had a name in mind. Honestly she hadn't, she hadn't even considered ever getting a familiar. She shook her head and lowered her gaze for a moment. As she did she took a hesitant step towards the Boar and raised a hand placing it gingerly on the beasts shoulder. She knew he was fierce and large, so he needed a name that would reflect that. Nikki stood for a moment in silence now, gently rubbing the Boars shoulder.

"Titan" She said after a moment.
