[F04][E3][SP] Feeding your Enemy

Recommended Posts

As she tried to slash at the fox again, a weird joyous feeling surged through Hinata as she tried to betray any predictable pattern. This was truly feeling the heat of battle! The thrilling fear of getting mauled, tempered by its manifestation as challenge! As well as the right to kill the one who attacked her with no cry of being unfair to the wildlife. This was one of the best games in one could have when she thought about it, with none other but her own life at stake. When she got into the bloodlusty mentality she could really get into slaughtering these woodland animals, though she would hardly think like this if she was sipping on some afternoon tea. She thought about all that she could loot off this fox’s body as well as a reward for her efforts. It simply got no better than that in times like these.

More attacks on the fox and in the meantime she was able to look around and see if there was anything worth gathering. It was simple work and she saw what she was looking for, at the same time that she noted that there were some other foxes running around, but they didn’t seem any more interested in her than she was in them. There was no time to see how exactly where they were going, but she knew there would plenty of ways to dispatch this fox she was working on and get back to work. Any other time, the addition of an extra few challenges into a fight would surely count as a good time but she was happy that she was faced with only one combatant. There was just a twinge of disappointment in the loss of odds against her. She needed there t obe a little bit of a challenge!

Something had to get rid of her triumphant feeling. She didn’t miss this time, though she couldn’t help but feel that something was lurking around the corner for her. She felt too lucky having got off too many shots. It was like bad luck was going to come after a few seconds. But this sentiment was immediately crushed under the fight’s intensity. Clearly there was to be no surprise for her because she couldn’t even take a second to think about that. She had to finish this thing off before something else came after her. No recognition of any triumph. Disappointment turned to anger at taking so long to down this thing; based as much upon the sense of failure in her near future. But she stored this feeling as just a freak incident consuming her mind. Surely these were simply thoughts sent to distract her in her time of need.

The fox lunged at her again. An instinctive alarm went off in her mind, and she realized her opportunity to win here had come. She slipped past the fox and struck it one last time, killing it for good. That was some good work, and what was more it was guarding some eggs but she was not able to go gather it up like it was disappearing alredy. Darn despwn timer. There was also the rustling sound from behind her. She recognized it as the sound of the moving feet one might do while running to throw something at her. She dove and rolled, hearing the sound turn into o skittering ahead of her. She bolted to her feet to act as if she now believed her enemy would be more cautious now that she showed that she was alert. Of course she knew this would not be the case because things rarely ended so simply.

She looked back, wondering why she could distinctly hear someone already pulling a second blade and advancing with a contemptuous grin, the person hissing through their lips. The person started speaking, labeling her target with the term to be applied to prey. Now Hinata was stunned. This person was obviously mistaking her for someone else and really had no reason to attack her. Could she even be attacked? It wasn’t like she was defenseless if she happened to wander into the wrong part of the woods. "What is this?" Hinata cried back, her arm shaking only a little as this strange person approached. But it was clear that they weren’t after her. She looked around and saw something jump out of the trees and get impaled by the second thrown blade. Phew, that was a load off her mind. “Need help?” she asked. "No I do not need your aid.” the other hissed.

Hinata couldn’t help but roll her eyes at the woman. She just kept fighting that beats while Hinata walked around and gathered up some eggs. This was why she had come here after all. Collecting herbs and pursuing that one woman. But now the pursuing part was probably all ruined so she could at least get the eggs she wanted. She didn’t think much of helping out in the fight even if she had been asked to. This person clearly did not now want to end this with a thrown blade. It would be over too fast if she could land a good shot. Hinata was already in the position she wanted and away from danger. She gathered the last of what she could find in the area then sat lying slightly elevated at her feet, one corner of her boot perched upon a rock. She let out a sigh and observed.

She just kicked back and relaxed as the battle raged on before her from her vantage point. The other girl just kept fighting while Hinata just chilled. She raised an eyebrow at the beast’s maneuvers that threw the other girl off guard. She herself would have never been fooled by something so simple as a feined attack. But it was not entirely a feigned maneuver. The hostility did take the other girl by surprise but mostly she was trying to draw attention away from her feet, now ready to act. But if the woman would just move another step to her right. Hinata was truly concerned with how close the fight was. She thought that the girl might as well run instead of risking death. It wasn’t like she was going to be able to save her if things went south. Since when was she a philanthropist? It was so much easier to just handle things from a distance.

Hinatao continued to watch intently. She knew from training that wide flat items would catch air and slip off on a plane to the right or left. You prevented this by immediately stepping into it to back it up with forward inertia and a solid mass behind it. Hinatao slammed into the woman full on, hearing a satisfying 'oof' from the other side of the board, as she completed her impromptu shield-slam. She directed downward force in accompaniment with her body weight to crush the woman beneath her. She then quickly rolled off to the side in anticipation of the woman throwing the board off. Having no other weapon but he boots she crushed the first woman's foot with, she decided this approach would work well enough on this last woman's head. But she noticed the blade sticking through the board. It made her suddenly aware of a slash she'd gotten on her arm as she'd crashed into the woman.

Hinatao saw that at the same moment that the girl felt it suddenly getting very difficult to breathe, she also saw splotches of discoloration on her arm and a bloody grin of triumph on the face of the woman at her feet. Though she'd landed several well-placed kicks, and could have triumphed with only a few more ticks, she felt all the strength leave her as she fell choking onto the cold stones of the ground. This was becoming quite the spectacle to witness. She was "stained". She was as good as dead. She had perhaps a single bit. And most of that would be unconscious anyway. Only if the woman had an antidote could she be saved. But what would prompt this girl to now save her life? No, it was over. But the knowledge that chance had truly rejected her made the thought of death welcome to her. “Glad I’m not her,” Hinatao said with a shrug.

That was enough spectating though. Hinatao hoped that the woman would be well off enough to survive even though she had clearly lost the fight. Onto more important things. She still had a bunch of gathering and searching to do. There was a lot of stuff to gather in the distance, she could see it. She just had to leave this wooded area. Just a few minutes of jogging brought her to a huge pasture with not so many trees. There were herbs and stuff growing all over the place and they were just ripe for the picking. Who knows, maybe she would find a familiar around here too. She’d been looking for one of those, and she just needed a chance to find one. But she didn’t find anything that might be able to be used. She was looking for like a fox or something. Not a huge one like the one’s she’d just fought but  small one.

Her wish was granted. She was attacked by a big fox but it wasn’t a familiar worthy animal. So she had to defeat it. She didn’t want to kill this thing in particular, she had other stuff to do like gather n shiz but that was going to have to wait. The fox had cornered her against a fence and she really didn’t want to risk jumping over it because it was really muddy on the other side. Aesthetics number one. She attacked the fox, hitting it real good and was able to duck under its sharp claws that it extended towards her. With one attack taken care of, she turned in the direction she had seen the other fox earlier. Maybe she would avoid that area and leading the fight the opposite way. She hadn’t gone too far, merely several minutes of jogging so she just had to stay where she was.

Attacking the fox again, she couldn’t help but notice that there was an obvious change in the behavior of the creature. As she chased the fox down it no longer tried to dodge as it ran. She would have thought that it would after being injured so much, instead heading straight. Had she exhausted it so quickly? Was she the one that was tiring quickly? This could turn the tables in the fox’s favor if she was starting to show fatigue, which would be a most unfortunate outcome. She swore under her breath as she hid the urge of making another rash attack. She lunged at it, damaging it immensely but the fox had fooled her. It kicked back at her and then launched her into a tree. Well that hurt a lot. There was no telling if she was going to get there in time. Maybe not, but then maybe she’d still have the option of trying.

She felt the fox barreling straight into her back. In the most favorable scenario, she’d at least be able to kill the get off an attack. She spun around as she got hit and she managed to slash into it but she had to throw herself from the fox’s body as it tried to counter attack. For a moment things seemed to be turning back around. The young Hinata had a strategy she was executing, with the fox falling for it at every turn. The only thing was, there was no chance for her to finish it off yet. It still had plenty of in tact body tissue and the tools to kill her if she decided to just let it attack her. Then the fox stared with disbelief and then just fell over. The girl freed herself from her shock, standing up rather suddenly but she kept watching the feinted fox with malice in her eyes.

She walked up, and slashed at the feinted fox only to find out that it was faking the whole time. It leapt up and growled at her, biting her in the waist with its teeth and thrashing her against the ground. Had she not braced for impact she might have gotten knocked out. But she was a little more skillful than that. A little too dexterous to be clamped down by teeth like these. She wiggled out and kicked the fox away from her. That’d hurt, but she wasn’t bleeding. It’d merely punctured most of the way through her clothes. She slowed down, beginning to approach more carefully. Charging at an aware target like a madman was a bad idea after all. The woman gritted her teeth, thinking in terms that the fox did not understand. However, the fox recognized the obvious signs of aggression that Hinatao wore like a champ.

Hinata turned around, ready to go on and gather. She even scooped down and put some herbs in her pack, but out of nowhere the fox leapt at her again. She couldn’t believe it had the ability to sneak up on her like that. She whipped around and was too slow to slash at it. It’d fooled her with its wounded routine twice now. She got smacked around like a rag doll and crashed into the ground where she had to tumble to get back to her feet. “I was going to show you mercy, but now I will give you death.” Provocation, taunts. Mocking too. The girl spat a phlemy blob on the ground at the end of her words, weapon at the ready. She wished she had a cleaner way of dealing with this beast. She could have easily taken care of it through other means if she didn’t want to keep a low profile.

“Right, no mercy,” she remembered as she approached the fox slowly and attacked it. It was too beaten to run anymore. It was clear that it had tried to kill her for good with its latest attack. All it could do now was watch as it was killed. She could have sniped this thing from afar. Now she was going to commit to injuring it again manually. She had to just to prove a point that she wasn’t to be trifled with since she did not think she could deter others from attacking her if she didn’t. The element of surprise was probably her favorite concept to exploit and yet the fox had used it against her. She coupled it with the thoughts that if she could do the same she probably would have, but that meant getting hurt like this fox if she put all her eggs into one basket per say.

She did not have a lot of time though, the fox on the ground was forming strange discolorations on the fur. Poison seemed to be an obvious culprit. It would make sense for a player killer to use poisoned blades. It made the killing easier. Good. She could use that. She charged, eyes on the knife. One hand came up to grab the wrist of the fox, the other readied a swipe. It was easily dodged though, and she had to retreat quickly to avoid being cut. The player killer grinned mockingly. she frowned and tried again, getting in close to deliver a flurry of attacks. Punches, kicks, elbows and knees. None landed, all deftly dodged. The fox launched a counterattack, unleashing a series of attacks of her own. Slashes left and right, swift and tight. There was little wasted motion, she was completely balanced. She could only barely dodge, not even having to pretend having difficulty.

There was a break in the attacks then, a pause. Was she being careful or fooling around? She stumbled backwards, wide open as she lost her balance. The fox was dead. Before she knew it she was attacked and another woman held balde was in her face, and a blade in her stomach. She winced, yelping when the pain burned through her eyes and seared in her consciousness. But this was the opportunity she needed. Her hand shot out, grabbing the wrist of the girl as she was about to pull it out. The grin on her face disappeared when the grip was not weak and loose as expected, but tight as a vice. Her other hand had grabbed her by the collar of her clothes. A mighty pull to bring her close, a headbutt to send her reeling. Enough was enough. This little duel of theirs had to end. Why was she being attacked anyway?

She released the knife as she staggered backwards, the blade still lodged in her abdomen. The mysterious girl still held her wrist in a grip. The player killer seemed quite distraught at the lack of discoloration on her skin, the poison clearly not working. Speaking of which, there was no time to waste. The girl stabbed a metal rod at the player killer's belly, willing the blade to form. It pierced through skin and internal organs, and she made sure to cut some more for good measure. The player killer dropped, and she released the blade. She didn’t know how much time she had, but it probably wasn’t much, though she wasn’t really a font of knowledge and expertise when it came to poisons. Either way, she assumed the player killer would have some antivenom on her person in case she accidentally used it on herself, or if she was on the receiving end of the poison.

She searched the dying girl as quickly as she could, focusing her efforts on finding a small vial or something along those lines. It was found not too much later, though she wasn’t too sure if “not too much later” meant “in time” or “too late”. Nevertheless, she hurried over to the victim, uncorked the vial, and realized she had no idea what to do. Was she supposed to make her drink it? Smear it in her wound? Inject it in the bloodstream? Unable to determine what the right call was, she opted to smear part of it in the wound, and pour part of it in the choking woman’s mouth.

She’d seen a neat trick once, one to forcefully make someone swallow what was in their mouth. She pinched the nose shut, tilted the head backwards, and poured. The liquid made her unable to breathe entirely, so she swallowed.
