She went along the path with nothing but boredom in her mind. She was going back to the man who she had met up with earlier and delivered him what she was supposed to. There wasn’t anything much to do except listen to what he had to say. He wanted her to go out to the pond with her, claiming that it had something that she needed in it. That was enough to get her somewhat interested. It wasn’t like she was scared of water or anything. They were so ingrained in their own little worlds that they were involved in. Who was she to say that he didn’t have something that she needed in the pond? But if it was possible to show a single person an example of their perspective, they would be shocked at how much their point of view changes. So she went with the man to the pond, eager to see what was ins tore for her. But before they set out, she gathered up what eggs she could find.

It was probably this that interested her the most. It was the ability and forethought to change. She believed that trying new things was a pathway to expanding mind, to discover the more about her own psychology and to make her more cultured. There were many ways to get better and they rarely resulted from doing the same thing without improvement for weeks or months on end. So soon enough they went on that man’s boat and went to the center of the pond. The trip took all of about ten minutes. He handed her a fishing pole and told her to cast it out. So she did. She didn’t know what in the world she was doing so she guessed she was just supposed to sit here and wait. And then something bit the line and she pulled it out. It was a big fish! “Now this is something I haven’t seen before,” she said with excitement building up in her chest.

The excitement was so much that it made her forget that she didn’t know what she was supposed to do next. She turned to the man and cocked her head to the side, “now what?”. The man said, “it’s nothing special. Just attack it. These fish actually eat a lot believe it or not. It grows into the water and they start polluting the water. So just kill it and gut it. You’ll find what I need in there. Then that’s all you have to do really. Nothing else to it really. You did bring something that can kill it though, right? You don’t look like you pack a punch.” She looked at him and nodded. She did have a weapon, if it wasn’t obvious by her equipment. She withdrew her blade and slashed at the fish as she jerked it towards her via the fishing line. It was very tricky and she missed which was unfortunate but to be expected for her first time.

“Try it again lass, lest we get stuck out here with a broken boat!” the man shouted at her as she missed. “Okay!” she shouted back, “it’s easier said than done!” she yanked the fish back towards her and slashed at it. She barely scraped it with her blade yet the fish smacked into the boat, making her feel like she had been hit by a whale. This thing might as well have been a whale for how large it was compared to her size. But that was besides the point. She could smell the tell tale smell of the quest objective she was after. That was a clear indication that this bad fishy was going to give her something that she needed. “Don’t break the boat!” the man called as if that’s all he could do was shout at her and critique her performance. Why wasn’t he helping in the slightest?

I’ll get it this time, she told herself while focusing even harder on reeling it in. she knew that she just needed one more solid blow to really send her message across to this creature. Once she dispatched of it she just had to let it bleed out and then she could get the goodies that was inside it. She pulled once again and stabbed into it. Connection. She then drug her blade across it and saw guts spill out of it. It was pretty graphic and gorey and she didn’t like the smell of it at all but she had definitely caused enough damage to make the fish really angry. It seemed as though her hit was so damaging that it paralyzed the fish for the time being. The smell of the fish intensified. She was worried that if it got much more intense they might be in danger of taking in the poison, so she would have to be careful.

The fish was really mad now. It had been struck enough times to warrant attacking but when it came at them it barely had enough energy to jump out of the water and attack the boat or them. It just sort of slumped against the side of the boat in defeat. It let her slash into the water but she barely scraped it again. It was still slippery and able to jerk away at the feeling of pain. “It’s almost dead. Just finish it off would you? We don’t want any stronger fish to come along and eat this one… and us.” She nodded, “okay,” she said. She knew that time was of the essence and didn’t need to be reminded of it. It was times like this that she wished she had a bow and arrow. If she did have some ammunition then maybe she could pierce it from a distance.

Suddenly, the boat rocked. It completely interrupted her stream of thought and she missed the fish entirely when she tried striking it again. It was, perhaps, how one could have such a strong feeling but still miss. Who had tried to stop her from killing this fish? It wasn’t another person at least. Maybe there were really more fish at play down there. If you could control the water to an extreme extent, you could also therefore influence the fish in it by association. Her theory was the influencing factor of her adjustments to her grip on her blade’s handle. She would do her best not to miss next time if she could help it. The fish looked equally bewildered as if there were other factosr at play that even it didn’t understand. Studying the movements of the fish from a historical point of view, she could see how every twist it made affected its actions.

She took the blade in both hands and held the fishing line against the rim of the boat with her knee then drove her blade into the water. She felt the blade go in, but the piercing wasn’t all that needed to happen. There was so much fat that just stabbing didn’t seem to do anything. She’d need to try another slash to really pacify this beast. She wondered if all big fish had been so much more aggressive like this, and whether this was even the proper way to tackle a fish. Surely it would be easier to just bring the fish on board, unless even that was too dangerous. There had been a shift at some point in this body of water where peaceful fish became super aggressive and huge, like this. Come to think of it, this was just a pond. Why were these so big to begin with?

Oh lord how this fish looked like it was just inches away from death. It barely twitched in the water now. It just needed one more killing blow. She stabbed into it, aiming for the neck and pierced it. However she could tell that it wasn’t enough. She slashed even but still that didn’t kill it. “You’ve got to sever the head,” the fisherman told her while sitting back in a beach chair that didn’t suit the situation at all. “Yes sir,” she said with a roll of her eyes. Why was he not helping, she didn’t get it. She would have more success if cooperation was more common. Not that she particularly cared either way if she had to do everything herself. She was merely interested in how the flow of combat had affected her actions when she was busy fighting on unfamiliar terms. It was truly a thing of contention and sheh ad to be prepared.

With one final killing blow, she finished off the fish and let out a deep sigh. It was over. She pulled the body onto the boat and dug through it to find that it was absolutely packed with goodies. The fisherman had been right. This was exactly what she had needed to do to complete her task. She wondered what she was going to do with the rest of her time now that she had done the meat and potatoes of the job. This was why she was so interested in finding other ways to occupy her time or finding funding for an adventure. The young girl’s plan was an intriguing one. She had already made up her mind, no matter how she performed she was going to find something that gave her life more meaning than going around and doing these little jobs for people, though she was not going to let the higher ups or others know that.

Once the fish was on board they just took the boat all the way back to the shore, tied up the ship, and that was that. Her task was considered complete in the most unorthodox way she’d ever imagined. But she still had time to burn. She would go out and continued gathering despite having already done enough to meet her quota for the day. She walked along and searched, finding some eggs here and there, and packing it away for her own use in the future. She was going to find a use for these things if it killed her! But that was another topic. She had her bag in front of her her, and it was a colourful one in which she stored everything she needed. She had interests beyond simply gathering, which was always nice to remember. A purely grindey soul with no practical skill or interest was of no use to the world at large.

She continued wandering around the pasture and kept hugging the edge of the pond where she knew plenty of eggs could be found. She found a couple more bunches of them and tucked them away as she walked. She thought about how useful brain smarts were and how far they could go on their own without street smarts. She decided she had gathered enough for the time being and went back to visit that fisherman. “Enter,” The fisherman called when he heard the knock at the door again. When the girl entered, he rose from his chair and offered his hand to greet her just like he had done every other time she had entered this building. “It is a pleasure to meet you. Please take a seat.” It was the old rehearsed line she had heard before. She was fishing to see if there was anything else she could do here to pass the time.

As she sat and listened to the man give his greetings that seemed to never change however many times she came to visit him, she looked and saw some eggs sitting right alongside the window. She snatched it up and put it in her pack with all the rest. No need to ignore the free stuff when she saw it.  As she sat, she busied herself with rearranging her stuff and looking at the kettle on the burning stove. The man absent mindedly poured some out into a pot as if anyone was actually going to drink that stuff. She did not dare to ask him anything yet. She was just killing time after all and it was rare that anyone in this place turned down the hospitality of others for something warm to eat or drink when it was offered, to the contrary, it would actually cause great insult to most.

She sat in the chair and spotted a bunch of eggs appear right in front of her. She gathered then and fell into a sleeping state as the time passed. IN her dream she uttered a low scream, no sound came through the opacity of this water she dreamt of being in. She wishes for company other than this small  fish that swam besdie her. An intense heat was born in the hollow of her back, gived her the reflex of stretching her arms. To her surprise, her two appendages respond to this order as if they were in perfect swimming conditions. This was her chance. Hinatao applies all the force she could to beat the arms again. She felt her body lift easily and this drives her to continue the maneuver. She emerges from the surface and continued to climb under the speed she has taken. She sees the dust floor moved too fast away from her.

"Are you okay?" someone asked her who had just passed by and come into the room. It woke her up. “Yes,” Hinatao said. She got up, walked around, and found some more eggs. Six again. She was in luck! But eventually she bored again and sat back down, only to doze off again. Her dream continued. She was captivated to discover a glimpse of an imposed mountain range that forms a huge natural barrier to her. She sees something beyond these mountains, something blue and rocky. She now knows where to go. Hinatao lands smoothly not far from her friends who came running. The poor people, they seemed terrified to have been separated from the gamer for such a long time. Stretched her shoulders to test the flexibility of her arms for a long fight, she was speechless to see that her hair was changing color even. This dream kept getting weirder.

That was enough dozing around though. sHE Woke once again to get some eggs, three this time, then she turned to the man. It was time to get up and actually get out of here. But just as she got up to go again the man laid some drinks out before them and allowed the tea leave to infuse the boiling water. He didn’t seem to have anything else to say so she just sat there and drank what she had been given. It tasted bland. Not much care had went into making the tea actually ‘taste’ like anything. It made her groan and nothing much was going to make this situation better. She looked at the man and sayd, “I have to say that I am most intrigued with how this place is run, not least by your gall to offer me this stale tea but also to have such a simple and easy task for me. What would you think if I asked for a request for such a large funding reward?”

The man didn’t have a good answer for her. He just looked at her and that’s when she realized she wasn’t going to get anywhere hanging around here. She sighed, and apologized for her question. She then left the building and walked the path back home. She always kept a lookout for some eggs because they were plentiful in this area. She grabbed some for herself as per usual then soon enough she got back home. As she entered the house, the relative coziness of it surprised her. The last time she'd been in here it held none of the invitation that it did now. Maybe all that work with the fish had done this to her, changed her ever so slightly and made her appreciate rest. The walls held the same books and decorations, and she immediately saw that the help books that she regularly referenced were still there from her studies of the surrounding areas.

She sat around in her living quarters and did her best to keep her mind occupied with anything but sleep. She didn’t want to have another bad dream, which plagued her more often recently. She yearned for something more exciting than gathering all day but it was what she was best at for now. Even as she sat here she kept thinking that she could be making progress by going out and gathering again. She had to resist the urge to get up and go out again… she had to, but she couldn’t. She sighed and gathered her things she headed back outside for another walk. She was a glutton for progressing herself and she wasn’t going to be stopped by a simple bout of boredom. She looked around for something worth scavenging out of sheer boredom. Like an egg or something. Quickly, though, she moved her eyes back to the road. She was, after all, going to have to make sure she didn’t go too far because it’d be dark soon.

Not wanting to come up short on her goals, she passionately looked around some more for eggs. Passion was definitely one word to describe her when one really thought about it. The way she really got into her work and tried to do extra when it wasn’t required into her task without any further preamble or niceties took the most people by surprise, yet it was not a negative experience most of the time. Their duties were far removed from each other and that made people look at her from the outside quite differently than their own. A light shone in her orbs which was not uncommon when she got this kind of passion, but it was definitely rarely seen in the eyes of the unfortunate people who didn’t have anything worth driving for. They were usually rich people who were sent by their parents to receive the best of everything the world had and then some.

She looked around but there wasn’t anything to find here. It was just as well. She could go home and just start reading up on some information if she really got bored here. She would have automatically assumed that that was the right thing to do when one was ready to learn some more on a subject. Maybe there was literature that told you how and where to find the best stuff in the area. This was not an unknown area so there was probably a journal out there or something from someone who had the street smarts to make this kind of things work. When she realized that she had already made efforts to make a journal of her own she realized that she might be the first person to want or even try to make this kind of thing happen, but she was much too young to make anything memorable. In any case it was time for a break. She’d pick this up again tomorrow.
