Seizing the grip of Grief's Harbinger felt like taking on a new mantle.  The sword responded now, when he held it.  It's dark core flared just as the cage of holy light around it rose to match.  This sword was a symbol of his trial and tribulations - his triumphs and failures.  It recognized that he still held potential for darkness within him, but had found he means to contain and control it, rather than being driven by fear of it.  Lastly, its abilities were now consistent with those he had used since the very first steps on his journey.  Change would come, as it does to all things, but he entered the future on familiar footing, and knowing himself. 

That last bit was the most crucial.  Freyd had spent a lifetime fearing what he might be or become.  In three months time, he had learned to challenge those fears and overcome them, to a considerable extent.  More remained to be done.  It always did.  But such are the storeys that make up our lives.  And for once, he was choosing how to live his in the light.
