[PP|FL1] Second Lesson. Why her?

Recommended Posts

Yukio stared at the list of quests. The fact that he had the quests that the starters needed to do made him a little… upset per say. He hated starting over in any game. This was the worst for him. This game was the one where you could die and never come back. No redo’s people. He entertained the thought of never coming back to the real world and it just did not shape in his head. He sighed slightly as the read the sequences of winning conditions for the next quest. Lips curved into a frown as his single digit tapped on the wood of the bench he was on. He had no idea what to do but to try to recruit someone to help assist someone. Dark eyes would slowly gander at the list of friends he had… or friend he should say.

A deep sigh escaped his lips as he looked over at the conditions and then back at his friend. This was getting him nowhere. It was Vera. While she had accepted his friend request, he was very sure he did not want to be the first person to message the other. There was no way she had made friends with someone else before him right? He thought about this seriously for a moment before messaging her. He had remembered how pretty she was and grinned slightly to himself before shaking the thought. She was the enemy after all. This was not a girl he could get along with right?

He sent the message and huffed slightly. She was obviously going to answer him. He had at least predicted that much.

Vera blinked at her screen.

To think Yukio would message her with a proposition of alliance. Alliance with a sworn enemy? That was an MMO no-no.

"Ew."

Vera rolled her eyes and closed the message. Anyway, she didn't have time for his games. Today, her agenda was to rake in that sweet motherlode of col. The only way she could roll in gold was, unfortunately, to roll in quests too. Her procrastinating ass mustered all the will power within to roll out of bed and look presentable. Long auburn locks combed and basic leather equipped, she was ready to roll. She turned around and gave her dumpster of an inn suite one last look.

"Goodbye, bed. I'll miss you too." She let out a deep sigh and spun on her heels. The quest line of the day was a beginner's bread and butter, as others would call it. The woman was honestly shocked she hadn't gotten to it yet.

A simple visit to the smithy's was all.

Time began to pass slowly and the fact that she didn’t answer him ticked him off. He was TRYING to at least show some sort of commitment in to believing that they should work together. ”This pompous….” He did not finish the sentence as he muttered slightly looking tat the quest, he would head to the starting point. Fine. He didn’t need her to do this. He would find someone else to figure it all out himself. He walked toward the  house that he had made the potion at and grumbled. It didn’t’ matter if she was hot like she was, her personality was like a lump of corn falling part. Last picked and so the bugs would fester on her kernel’s and eat her. He wasn’t going to let this bother him.

He found himself a few feet from the quest holder’s house and walked toward his domain. He frowned slightly that he had to do this alone. He preferred company anyway.

The town of beginnings was as annoyingly congested as always. An air of tension lingered as she kept her distance. She reached for her shoulders and slid the black hood atop her head, shrouding her periphery. Quest marker? Checked. The location marked was only a hair away, a few minutes stroll to the bazaar. Along her journey, a pile of glossy red apples called her name. Carob eyes glimmered, then darted up at the NPC vendor watching the cart. Damn. She couldn't afford all this food. If only...

A wave of adventurers approached the cart and she smirked. If she could find a way to slip in among this distraction? Breakfast would be served.

Vera skulked behind the cluster and brought a gloved hand up to the bunch. She picked two apples off the top and shoved them into her pockets. She reached for a third until a mop of obnoxious bubblegum turned around. Time to book it.

Being slick only counts when you don’t get caught. He stood right behind her as they were in the path of the quest giver. He stood there with his arms crossed walking past her. She had been posted by him and the other member. A slight curve of his lip as he walked over past the gentleman. A slight laugh as he knock down on the door of the quest giver. Same old place. It never changed. He was happy to ri of this quest when it came down to it.

His body vanished inside the building allowing the girl to be chased by those men. Stealing was not something he was interested as he worked hard for every penny. He looked at the  NPC and took down the notes that needed to be taken for the next type of mission. It was a kill quest. A frown stepped onto his lips as he sighed slightly. He hated kill quests. They were usually boring

"GET HER!"

Vera's pale complexion paled beyond physical bounds. The group of players turned to face her and her thievery. The NPC manning the cart grew furious.

"Guards!"

On cue, an array of armored knight-like guards marched towards her. They moved freakishly fast, as if to defy physics. She, on the other hand, would not be caught with an infraction and a jail sentence above her head. The redhead gulped. The quest marker wasn't far from this cart... she had to distract these guards long enough to slip into the smith's. With a heavy sigh, Vera pulled her cloak tighter against her form.

She grabbed more apples off the cart and stuffed them inside the band of her trousers. She wrapped her cloak around her waist to hold them in and sprinted forward. The clanking of armor followed her all about the town, fueling her paranoia. A twisted, sketchy alley was her only solace at this point. The trickster slipped into the alley and crouched behind a waste bin.

Commotion overtook the once quiet town to some yelling. A blink was given as he watched the group of people turn on what seemed to be a fiery redhead. A perk of the brow was given as he witnessed what seemed to be hilarious glory of her being caught. If they caught her, it would be jail time or so he had hoped. Perhaps it was just destiny for him to witness this glory of her doing something bad. A light sigh was given as he raised his hand. He was tall and dark so he was easy to spot out in the bright town. A tilt of his head was given as he shouted to Vera. “Hey!” He did a loud whistle.

The whistle was loud and he lead the way to the quest. If they made it to the house and into the house, the others wouldn’t be able to enter the NPC’s house. It was their only chance. Well, her only chance. He had nothing to do with this. For all they knew he was just yelling hey for giggles. No proof! His longs leg took off as he grinned as he was hoping she would at least follow him.

Shivers wracked the redhead's lanky frame as she cowered behind the dumpster. Damn. Seldom was she actually swift at thievery, but most of the time? She could make it out without much of a hassle. The odds were against her this day, in a twist of fate. She cursed under her breath. Jail, really? She would put up a fight before she was forced to spend her glorious days cooped up in a cell. Her thievery was merely an act of self preservation.

After a moment, she slipped round the other corner of the alley and gulped. She had to have lost them by now. Cloak pulled tightly over her features, shrouding her form. She slinked back into civilization through the other, shady alley path. A whistle and a voice from across the square gathered her attention. She jumped and whipped her head around. The voice belonged to none other than her sworn enemy. She inhaled sharply, relieved it wasn't trouble. It still still not safe out here. She whipped her head around to find the pack of players scanned the herd. They were still onto her. She exchanged a hesitant look at Yukio and booked it after him. Why not? It was in the way of her quest. For whatever reason he had, he was trying to save her ass.

How this woman could act nonchalant with a group chasing her was beyond him. He knew he wasn’t going to get caught for assisting a thief. No sir! Does not matter how attractive you are. A woman is not worth any trouble unless you put a damn ring on it and even then, that is suspicious. He quickly side stepped into the office of the NPC that was for the second lessons. It was after all the exact same person to do it all. He took a deep breath and peeked behind him hoping she was not that far. His raven hair fell before his eyes as he just watched her reaction hoping she would at least kick it into high gear.

Behind him the NPC recognized him and started the next part of the speech that would be related to the second lesson. He had the door open for her but he could be mean and slam it in her face, but he felt that was a bit TOO mean of him

She slipped into the shop and slammed the door shut after Yukio. A shaky sigh escaped her as she slumped against it. Phew, saved by the bell. She turned her attention towards an elder man, white hair, receding hairline and all. His apron was covered in grime from his typical work. She glanced about the shop, taking in the sight of all the armory on display. She cracked her knuckles and approached the counter. The NPC glanced at the two and scanned them, as if to check if his sole prompt would apply to them. A soft smile overtook his features in lieu.

The prompts were exchanged and Vera moved for the door to leave. The raven haired man opened the door yet again, waiting for her. Her expression, unbeknownst to her, was slightly doe-eyed at the small gesture of politeness. She walked out past him and turned around, crossing her arms. "So, here at the same time. Did you follow me here or somethin'?" She cocked a brow, her words more of a jest to break the silence than much else.

Was she serious? Did she really just say that to him? “The fu..?” He stared at her. How does someone have the audacity to say that to someone while THEY were beyond the door and they slammed it. His eyes narrowed slightly a bit. For once, he was shocked to the point he couldn’t even formulate words. He slowly turned toward the NPC who greeted them. He was beyond the point of return as he just ignored her words. The NPC started beginning to explain their task work. However, he was unable to process the information, but the quest popped up in his log.

Eyes began to wander back at her and blink several times. She was still a complete enigma to him. He simply shook his head and spoke back to her finally being able to get some sort of word out of his mouth. “Whatever. Just… let’s get this over with” He motioned to the door. The crowd had to of been gone already right?

Sure, she might have had a stick up her ass, but when didn't she? She thought it odd that their encounter was in opportune time. He seemed put off by her quip, oh well. In a twist of fate, he'd saved her ass from a band of angry players, and now, they were teamed together for this quest. She grumbled. The woman would much rather tackle this alone, but what could be done? Deep down, she wouldn't admit she enjoyed the company. Over a year of solitude in this world was getting old. Hopefully, for all the nuisance Yukio was, he'd be a source of entertainment.

She moved past him and quickened her footsteps ahead. She would be the lead of this ragtag team. Gears whirred in her head as she planned out their next quest objective. They would have to come prepared. The redhead swiped up her HUD and located the immolation potions. With such low level and all odds stacked against them, a little precaution wouldn't hurt. The woman plugged her nose and downed the flaming essence. She pondered over the remaining potion, and ultimately, tossed it back at Yukio. "No questions, take this. You'll probably need it."

Watching the red head throw a vial at him and mentioning about no questions, the man couldn’t help but look at the vial and then back at her. Was this the end of times or something? Could this really be a gift from the stone-cold queen herself. You’ll probably need this? Those words just screamed you’ll owe me in the future. A light sigh left his lips as he watched her suspiciously before downing the vial himself. Her words sure created some sort of internal debate. They really disliked each other in reality but to be honest, it was getting old. Didn’t matter though, they weren’t even friends minus this game.

He placed the empty vial in his inventory and worked his way to the field. He had already studied up on the procedure of what they were going to use. Boar Tusks. This would be fun but he hadn’t had any armor but this weapon of his to start off with due to the fact he just believed it would come sooner.
“Lets go, Queen.” He motioned to the exit of the town where he was already headed.

"Good." She watched him accept the vial, though not without reluctance. She figured if he would be of any use, he could use the boost. She combed her strands back and stepped into the crowd, blending in with her environment. She hoped those players were gone by now, those poor excuse for patriots. A little bit of thievery was inconsequential, just a few mere pixelated apples. Whatever their reasons were, she didn't wish to stick around long to find out.

She scrunched her nose, the aftertaste of the spicy, viscous potion still lingering. She gulped it down and made haste for the field. Lo and behold, the cityscape transitioned into open ground. A small pack of boards hobbled around. It was a perfect chance to strike. She withdrew her battleaxe and squared her shoulders. She scanned which ones seemed vulnerable. They were all relatively similar in level. Would make the task easier. She raised her axe and struck.

He followed suit after Vera. This would be one odd day. She actually was slightly nicer than usual. Perhaps antagonizing her would cause a bigger rift. Then again, he was always one with words to make sure she felt the sting. Her attack was impressive with the strike. He perked a brow slightly. She didn’t use any moves with her weapon. Perhaps she didn’t want to run out of energy so quickly. His war hammer was pulled out as he looked at the other boar pup.

Weapon was glowing before he took three long strides to it. The weapon drew into an upper arc and it was into the Boars face. The sudden destruction of the boar was easy enough. He simply looked around for something but he scrunched his nose when nothing dropped. Eyes looked back at her and the other boar. It didn’t seem to happy that it was hit. (Upper swing -3 EN)

The boar came rushing over at Vera but missed as it skid passed her huffing and trotting its little feet.

The boar rushed forward, but the older was swift to counteract. She side stepped, watching with mild amusement as the boar crashed into the flora. Tusks wedged into the soil, the boar grunting for escape. Oh boy, this was going to be a breeze, wasn't it? She yawned and fixed her grip on her battleaxe. "Watch and learn." She cocked a confident brow at Yukio and swung. In opportune time, of course the stupid boar gained the strength to break loose. It squealed, bounding forward with reckless abandon. Oh, what a joy. She had just completely and utterly humiliated herself.

She bit her tongue to retain a swear building up on it. Her axe was stuck in the soil, heavy and tough to budge. Yukio seemed to move with an element of finesse, lucky him. It was tough to say that she could best him, with the current leverage he had over her in strength.

Watching the girl do her thing made him grin. This was probably the strangest relationship he would ever develop having a rival and a crush on this woman at the same time. He simply stood back and watched as she missed… He had no words and stifled a laugh. Making her upset would be detrimental to their work. He simply looked at the approaching next boar pup and the war hammer glowed once more. He pulled back into a swinging motion once more and a sudden crack was heard from the strike. He sent the boar into pieces and looked around.( Upper Swing -3 EN)

A small little tusk was seen and he scooped it up into his inventory just like that. He was having better luck than her for the time being but none the less, he did not want to mention it for it may upset the queen. He had already experienced that once and once was enough for him.

The boar that was looking at Vera came rushing in and managed to strike her. However, when it connected the immolation potion took effect causing the boar to take damage and was gone within the next instant.

She frowned lightly at the laugh which escaped Yukio. She anticipated a smartass jest from the other, only to be met with nothing. The mild source of distraction caused the pudgy mob to collide into her, knocking her back with its curved tusks. She squeaked, landing on her rear end. The boar before her ignited in flames, reduced to a sea of ash. She watched the ash erode into pixels and drift off in the wind. Good riddance. She'd secured her first tusk. She made haste to scoop it into her inventory.

An infinite loop of boars seemed to spawn. The AI picked up on the strength of the duo and sent them coming, one after the other, for them to reap. She pushed herself off the earth and dusted her cloak. She fixed her axe in turn for the other boar that spawned. She charged straight ahead, to which it curved.

Watching Vera squeal and fall to the ground was… endearing? Was that the right word? He thought for a moment before being interrupted by another boar. It was the 4th boar now which came. It didn’t matter to him. He side glanced at his bars of energy and noticed he wasn’t able to do another attack. Damn. This was what it was like to be weaker. He found himself taking his war hammer and the tip of it cracked into the top of the pups head. Of course, that would make it upset. He took a step bak but the boar managed to catch him in the side of his leg. It pushed him slightly back but then the potion caused the pup to explode into crystals. That was lucky as a tusk was seen. He snatched it up and looked over at the other boar

This next boar came and was poised. It was on its way running at Vera. However, it didn’t seem to be as elegant as its other friend missing the girl completely.

Vera couldn't have felt any more stupid in this moment. She hadn't thought to invest in the sword art she needed for proper combat, nor could she afford a weapon of any quality. She was left with her measly might one one damage against two pestering pigs. She could feel the fatigue building up, even with her energy full. She looked aside to see Yukio in much worse state, on the vestiges of his energy gauge. She gave him a once over and smirked. "Tired already, boy?" She'd give him a little fighting spirit, ignite a little bit of enthusiasm. He was such a bore when he wasn't fired up over something.

She trained her axe on a boar headed straight for her. With swift ease, she wedged the end above the creature's shoulder. A sickening crack signified her success. It only surmounted to one. She could only hope her potion would be of use.
