While perusing his messaging inbox, Bahr stumbled across something that he hadn't thought of in a very long time. It seemed that he had completely forgotten that there was an entire questline dedicated to beating the shit out of baby dragons. How dare he! That was the very first quest he had embarked on, after all. It was a wonder he'd allowed it to skip his mind.

At any rate, Bahr was in a position where he was officially starting to run out of quests to finish. Accidentally rediscovering an entire pile that he'd let go to waste was equally exciting as it was frustrating. Why, he could be out there beating the shit out of baby dragons at that very moment. So why wasn't he? What was it that was holding him back?

Nothing, that's what.

He found himself on the third floor, slowly making his way to an identifier on his map. He'd come way over-buffed - but not because he needed it for the dragon. To the contrary, he had a feeling the dragon would be dead very quickly.

It didn't take long for Bahr to roll up on the spot and catch a glimpse of the creature in its natural habitat: squalor. For such a fancy looking dragon, it was really a shame that it had decided to make its nest out of human skulls. Had it any idea the medical ramifications of such a shelter? Why, its underbelly was probably riddled with bacteria and disease. Or, at least, it would have been, were this real life.

But dragons don't exist in real life, stupid.

It had friends - little elves that pointed their spears at Bahr the moment he approached. "Awww, how cute. You've got a posse. Sure would be a shame if someone were to-" He cut them both to ribbons in the blink of an eye, scattering their pixelated remains to the wind. "- kill 'em."

Though he couldn't exactly make out the expression the dragon was making, it looked displeased nonetheless. "Good. Come and get it. I've got places to be."

The dragon leapt toward Bahr, predictably, but he was ready. A flick of his wrist, and the creature was scattered instantaneously. "Yyyyyup. That went about how I expected it to go," he admitted, sheathing Dawn's Demise before he accidentally killed half the floor's fauna by waving it the wrong direction. It was almost difficult to believe that, not terribly long ago, a fight like that would have been a terrible struggle. Now, he could have probably sneezed and did just as a good a job as Dawn's Demise did.

But with the daily quest out of the way, Bahr had the opportunity to actually do something fun for a change. His col reserves had been running a tad low, and it had been awhile since he'd had the thrill of identifying something cool at a merchant. It was time to do some hunting. With any luck, he could bring home a sizeable bounty and actually feel like he did something worthwhile with his day.

FLOOR 22

Something that Bahr had recently discovered was that, on Floor Twenty Two, for no particular reason, it was easier to acquire loot. It seemed that he was able to pick up loot off of monsters that he ordinarily wouldn't otherwise be able to. Whether this was a feature or a glitch, he had no idea, but what he did know was that he intended to take advantage of it now that he knew about it. Any time he had a quest that ended prematurely, it would only make sense to come here, pop some buffs and get down to business.

He'd found a particularly lucrative hunting grounds in  a certain section of the forest that housed Nymphs. They hit hard, but Bahr hit harder. And, as a result of his training in the area, he had acquainted himself with most of their attack patterns, and was able to avoid the attacks with general ease.

It wasn't that he had a perfect lock on the situation. If one or more managed to hit him, he suffered. The trick was to get his head back in the game and start dodging attacks again, and sustain that long enough to let his Battle Healing and Holy Blessing fill his health gauge back up. He'd become so acquainted to the routine of hunting in this area, in fact, that he managed to stroll in and hit an entire grouping of the poor saps twice before they had fully registered what was happening to them.

This ended up slaying three of them, and leaving one behind to contemplate its demise. If, that is, computerized mobs actually do that. Bahr didn't know for sure. But the way they reacted when faced with certain death seemed to indicate that they did, indeed, contemplate their mortality. Something that a softer man might find a little sad.

Ah, there it was. The first direct hit that Bahr had taken. Usually, it took them a little longer to come to the aid of their fallen brethren - but it appeared that the little critters may have finally started wising up to Bahr and his occasional assaults on their homeland. The magic plinked away a small portion of his health, but didn't hold him back from tearing through the reinforcements like a hot knife through butter.

With one more down, he'd already slain four total. Over twenty thousand col, plenty of materials, and other goodies in the blink of an eye. It was a wonder nobody else was cheesing the twenty second floor by this point, because it almost seemed to Bahr like the ideal place to stock up on most everything a traveler would need. It was still the only place in Aincrad he could reliably loot creatures in two hits, every single time.

And because he knew that he could kill any of these vermin with only two swings, getting hit didn't phase him in the least. He knew that his Battle Healing and Holy Blessing would pick up the slack and have him looking good as new in no time. Right now, all he needed to focus on was slaying these things as quickly as they kept coming to reinforce their fallen brethren. If he could do that, he'd stay in good standing. If he couldn't there was a chance that he could be overrun by the annoying ankle biters.

Another slice, and three more fell. Tons of col instantaneously found its way into his inventory, along with a handful of crafting materials and various weapons, armors, shields, and consumables. He couldn't decipher what any of them held on the spot. All he knew was he once again felt the rush of rapidly acquiring goods, whether they would turn out to be worthless or not.

But as it turned out, this time Bahr did find something quite useful. An Intermediate Dungeon Map, something that could make his trip to this floor even more worthwhile than he'd originally imagined. The bosses of these dungeons started getting a bit difficult by the time it got to higher floors like these, but Bahr wasn't dissuaded. He'd faced worse horrors before, and the potential rewards were worth the risk. Besides, he had more than enough items to sustain himself in the event that things got a little dicey.

That being said, it probably wouldn't be smart to push his luck today. He'd come back to these hunting grounds again in the future, and he could use the map then. He hadn't come equipped with the buffs that he would have ordinarily used if he had assumed he'd be skulking around in a real dungeon. For now, he was perfectly content to continue slaughtering fairies.

Some may have felt bad about it. Not Bahr. For you see, fairies or nymphs in Sword Art Online were akin to vermin such as mice, or rats. They ended up in places they didn't belong, ruined your things, dug holes in your house, and had the audacity to bite you when you tried to shoo them away. Rodents and mosquitoes wrapped into one disgusting package. They didn't carry diseases in this game (that Bahr knew of), but he was positive that if Cardinal one day decided to play a cruel joke in the denizens of Aincrad in the form of Plague 2.0, it would be these assholes carrying the biological weapon.

So he killed another three of them, teabagged the pixelated ashes, and flipped off the one that remained. He saw that this angered some of its friends, but he didn't care. Though he may have lacked taunting skills such as Howl, he had the spirit, and it seemed to be working.

Unfortunately, it seemed as though the angrier they got, the better their aim became. Bahr had done a reasonably good job at avoiding their attack for the time being, but they were starting to get crafty. Working together to pigeonhole him into certain areas, that they had pre-aimed. And did I mention that they attacked with the magical equivalent of spitballs? Yeah, they literally have a little straw, and they spit some sort of wet ball out of it that somehow does tremendous amounts of damage. Well, tremendous to a lesser man, sure. But Bahr was manly. So, so manly. He barely felt a thing. (Even if is health gauge did.)

Seemed it was time to wrap things up with this group and make a strategic retreat to reset the AI and allow his energy to repopulate. Once he felt ready, he could saunter back in and continue his killing spree as though nothing had happened.

Wait a second. The little fuckers were taunting him right back. Slapping their asses, pulling their eyelids down, and farting in his general direction. Do you have any idea what a nymph fart smells like? Worse than elderberries, if that gives you any idea.

Though Bahr was the type to dole out such taunts, he wasn't particularly happy when receiving them. Especially from mobs or NPCs. It just wasn't right for a computer to sit there and roast him, especially when he'd just slaughtered its entire village. Maybe they knew their death was impending, and decided that they didn't want to go down without making their mark? Well, they'd made a mark alright. A brown stain in their trousers.

Best to put them out of their misery, so he sliced through the lot of them with one clean stroke and rejoiced as their bodies exploded into countless polygonal shards. Nymph snow in October. What a time to be alive.

Being that Bahr was running low on energy, it was high time he took a small break, regrouped, and made sure that he was ready for the next batch of helpless miscreants. It wasn't that he was worried about getting his ass kicked at this point - in fact, he was already back to full health. More than anything, he was concerned that he would die of boredom from being forced to use a billion basic attacks against the damn things until they died. No bueno. He'd take the time to recharge so he didn't have to suffer through that nonsense.

Looked like there was still plenty of daylight left, anyways. Though he was rushing, he actually wasn't in a rush. He had all day to terminate pixies. It was just a matter of how much crap he could cram in his pack before a Skyrim-esque message populated to inform him that he was overencumbered and would need to drop items in order to move again.

Presto. Just like that, he was back to normal. A slight waste of time that could have been spent killing pixies - but would he really have been killing them without the energy he needed to pull off his super cool Sword Arts? Certainly not. It would be like chopping away at a tree that lost a single hit point with each swing it sustained. Who would be dumb enough to use something so mundane and boring as an actual plot point? If someone had, they should be ashamed of themselves.

He peered through the brush at his hunting grounds to find that it had fully repopulated. Once again a nymph madhouse. They were drinking, partying, and having sex everywhere. Okay, not really. But they were drinking. Tree sap, that is. It's like hard liquor to them. That just meant they were sedated and vulnerable - a perfect situation for a predator like Bahr. It was time to make his move and continue the slaughter.

When he jumped into action, they didn't see it coming. Somehow, they had overlooked the fact that they spawned into an area completely devoid of other nymphs, and decided that it was business as usual. Didn't even consider that there could be a weirdo in a red coat looming right around the corner to pounce. Well, they were wrong. Very wrong. So wrong, in fact, that they all just sorta stood (or, rather, hovered) there, dumbstruck, not exactly knowing how to react when Bahr chopped four of their health bars in half or worse.

Then, all at once, it was pandemonium. While the last colony he had invaded had some sense of decorum and combat experience, this lot seemed hopeless. They weren't even trying to fight back! Just mass hysteria with the lot of them. How was it that their behavioral patterns were so much different than the last batch? Strange.

Since it seemed as though they had no intention of fighting back, but rather running around their little makeshift camp like a pod of brain damaged chicken with their heads cut off, Bahr saw it fit to treat them in the same manner with which they behaved. Chaotic killing. There wasn't really any rhyme or reason to it. Just good ol' fashioned 'I'm gonna kill whoever crosses my path first' killing. So when the timing seemed right, he charged up Dawn's Demise with a Sword Art, let it rip, and fucking annihilated four of them in one fell swoop. Seriously. I don't think that there was actually anything left to turn into pixels by the time his blade had ran through them.

Oh yeah, and loot and stuff happened too. The essentials. Good stuff. It seemed like he was starting to rack up quite the bounty, but the sun was officially starting to hang a little low in the sky. Not so low that he felt the need to pack up just yet. Just low enough that he knew he only had a little longer to enjoy himself.

Still, they ran about as though they'd all just consumed a gallon each of espresso laced with cocaine. You would think that, at some point, they might organize to form a resistance. A counter strike of sorts. Something to repel their attacker. Or, at the very least, some of them might start fighting back in disjointed waves of pitiful spitball action. Not coordinated, but still enough to make the typical attacker think twice.

But no. There was no order here. Just pure chaos. They weren't even running anywhere in particular. It was like they weren't trying to escape at all, just running in circles because they didn't know what else to do. Were they all high? Had he intruded on Nymph Woodstock? It was a possibility. He thought that he may have ehard music when he first busted in there. In fact, he was almost certain that he had attacked them to the rhythm of it.

This was actually starting to get a little... boring. It was kinda fun when they fought back at least a little bit. It provided at least a modicum of a challenge. Not a great deal of a challenge, mind you - just enough to know that he was actually doing something that required some measure of effort. This was just shooting fish in a barrel. They still hadn't gotten their shit together enough to fire off a single spitball at him. All he had done was stand in one spot and sweep his blade from side to side. He was getting kills - and loot - as a result. No effort required.

He was getting good loot, too. That last one he killed gave him three perfect weapon. Three perfect weapons! He'd never gotten a drop that good (with the exception of Dawn's Demise) the entire time he'd been hunting in Aincrad. Total insanity. It seriously was a wonder that there weren't thousands of players in that exact hunting ground at that moment taking advantage of this.

For a brief moment, Bahr considered outing this spot to the rest of Aincrad. There was a very real possibility that the player base could benefit greatly from an area where the AI bugged out and let its mobs get annihilated with little to no resistance - and the player reaped rewards in the form of col, materials, equipment, and experience points. On the flip side, he feared that if he outed it and it became popular that Cardinal would catch wind of it and patch things. Then he would lose his new favorite hunting grounds forever.

No. It was probably best to just keep it to himself, for now. That, or tell a very select few people about it. Close friends. Guildmates. That sort of thing. It was the only way to ensure that someone other than just him benefitted, without risking Cardinal putting a kabosh on the whole thing. Yes, the only way.

And just like that, the tiny clearing was completely empty and quiet again. For the first time since he started using this spot to hunt, Bahr actually felt a little bit like a monster. They hadn't fought back even once, and he still killed all of them indiscriminately. Though, perhaps that was their aim. To make him feel horrible, so that he would leave the spot alone in the future when he felt the itch to go hunting.

He wouldn't, of course. This spot was primo. He'd have to be a total rube to give it up just because the AI went straight stupid.

That being said, it was probably all for the best that the clearing was empty again, because it was starting to gradually get dimmer and dimmer. Now was a good time to call it a rest, starting heading back to the teleport plaza, and make it home in time to go to bed at a reasonable hour.

When he finally got home, he didn't even bother to check the loot that he had gathered throughout the day. He was positive that it was an adequate amount, and that he needn't worry about whether or not it had been worth his time. The following day he would spend a couple of hours sifting through everything, distinguishing the good from the bad, and then taking it all to a Merchant for proper identification. With any luck, he could get something worthwhile that would have made it all worth it. Then, when he felt ready to go back, he had a few dungeon maps that he could take advantage of to make the experience ever more lucrative.

He had no interest in doing any of that now, though. It was time to get some well deserved shut eye. Despite having not been threatened all day, he still felt exhausted. It was bound to happen, swinging around that sword. Even if the targets were weak, he had cleared out two nymph villages and slaughtered a dragon. He needed his beauty sleep after a day like that. (okay i'm ending the thread now)
