[SP-F6] Grinding, Everyone's "Favorite" Thing.[Complete]

Recommended Posts

Zerva was woefully aware of how undergeared he was after his last run in with something he could not handle. The feeling of missing an arm still rather memorable. He planned to fix that as soon as possible. To start, he was going to be hunting the local wildlife of this floor. A very specific type in fact. He figured it would do him much justice if he used spiders rather similar to the one that caused him his previous problems to slay it. With this in mind, he headed through the jungles of the sixth floor in search for a large spider, hopefully smaller than what he encountered based on the rumors.

((OOC: Seriously, don't read this unless you want to see me doing nothing but killing spiders to try and get enough materials from them to last me a bit. This is sorta a side-solo with that in mind.))

As Zerva searched through the jungles while alternating between using his Searching skill and his Tracking, hoping that one o them would find him his chosen prey. As time went on he was soon smiling, for he had found one of the spiders he had been looking for. It had a different coloration, and it had far shorter fur, but it was certainly from the same family. It even had the scythe-like front legs. Thankfully unlike the one had he fled from which stood two people tall, this one only stood only as high as his knees. With his target in sight he drew his dagger, sadly simple and unenhanced, and charges at the spider with every intent of putting the creature down! The spider was not aware of him and had shot a strand of web so to move into the trees, just following it's AI, causing Zerva to miss and move into the Arachnid's line of sight. It seemed catching it off guard was not going to be an option.

The spider had dropped back down to the ground to fight with it's attacker, making a strange chattering noise that was likely nothing more than gibberish. It lunged at Zerva with one of it's razor sharp legs, not surprising Zerva and letting him deflect the strike so it ran along the blade of his dagger and to the side, Zerva readying for a counter attack towards the spider. The small amount of prior knowledge he seemed to have did him much favors, since he was able to slice down across the spider's attacking scythe, severing the limb and making it screech while stepping back. The blade shattered into the air, leaving him slightly triumphant.

With his minor victory and the spider stepping away, he stepped forward to strike at the creature again, taking advantage of its simulated surprise to try and land another life-threatening blow to the Arachnid which was hissing threateningly towards him. The spider wasn't giving him the chance to attack again just yet, swinging it's remaining front leg, forcing Zerva to block and step back in turn, the two of them at a stand-still.

Seeing that the battle wasn't going to be very cut and dry as long as the spider was resisting, he had to plan his attacks accordingly. He watched the spider as it readied for another attack towards him, his dagger ready to guard again as it lunged towards him to try and cause some damage. With the enemy's scythe being deflected again, albeit very closely, he was able to strike the big bug. The dagger leaving a scar of pixels along it's abdomen before Zerva leaped to the side, the direction the spider did not have a scythe arm anymore, in preparation or any retaliation.

Still taking advantage of the spider's wound he circled to the side, trying to stay out of range from the spider's good arm. It tried slashing at him a few times only for him to move out of the way, but then it tried with it's fangs! This caught him more off guard and was closer so the spider managed to tag him! It didn't seem venomous though, its arms more than enough of a natural weapon. Feeling the force of the bite, Zerva gets ready to try and use the spider's nearness against it. Predicting this, however, the spider releases Zerva and steps away, making more foreign noises, perhaps complimenting his taste?

Shaking off the annoying feeling of getting bitten he holds his dagger at the ready, sprinting towards the spider as it tried to step away, not wanting it to have any chances to pull off its own tactics, so he tried to stay on the offense as much as possible. Seeing him coming, the spider attacked with its good arm again, making Zerva duck and roll under the creature's attack and to its side, slashing at the spider with his dagger as it jumped sideways to evade as well.

With the back and forth of attack and dodge getting annoying he takes a calming breath and renews his attack, approaching the spider with more caution, waiting for it to make the next move this time, to see if that strategy gave him any more luck. It didn't, the spider slashed with its sole scythe as before, this time hitting Zerva's dagger out of his hand! The blade swung to a nearby tree where it became embedded, forcing Zerva to retreat to retrieve the blade, just barely able to dodge before the spider's scythe arm crashed into where his head used to be on the tree!

With a glimmer of hope in his eyes he wished for the spider's arm to be stuck, giving him a chance to strike back a bit more and hopefully make up or prior failures. No dice. The spider was not trapped in the slightest and in fact was still good to go, turning on the spot with the help of its bug ability to walk on walls it slashes at him once again, grazing his cheek as Zerva steps away in surprise!

Zerva, getting a strange sense of deja vu, watches as the spider monster returns to solid ground, it's full attention on him while waiting or another chance to strike at Zerva. Seeing its chance it runs at him, scythe swinging as Zerva stepped away again and again, stuck on the defensive while avoiding or deflecting the monster's strikes.

Being beaten back by the monster was not his definition of fun, in fact it was starting to get worrying. As the spider's scythe-shaped arm bounces off his dagger again he takes a chance and closes the distance between them to try and leave a strike on the creature. Just as he liked, the creature was met with a fearsome strike on its remaining scythe arm, severing it as well and forcing the creature to back away in yet more simulated fear, lunging out with it fangs while chattering angrily.

With the spider disarmed and on its last remaining six legs, he stepped forward to try and attack the spider before its fangs could move for another bite. Even if not poisonous, he didn't like the idea of being harmed that often regardless of the context. It seemed the spider had similar feelings, but approached it by evading and moving away, making Zerva have to chase after it while while being mindful of its attempts at biting.

Getting irritated with the spiders constant attempts to get away now, he slams the heel of his foot into the ground, triggering his acrobatics to jump over the spider and land behind it, slashing out at it to try and finish it off, or at least bring it a step closer. With his dagger slashing the spider's spinneret, he gasped as in response the creature webbed him, coating his dagger hand in the sticky substance, clawing at his hand to get it off.

By the time he successfully removes it and frees his good arm he sees the spider making a run for it. Whether it was to get backup or to flee, he didn't want it doing either. He uses his Sprinting skill to try and keep up, wanting to close the distance and finish it before it could pull anything. With the spider having trouble moving without two of its legs, Zerva was able to catch up with little issue, jabbing his dagger into the spider, it making a high pitched screech that made Zerva scowl while fighting the urge to cover his ears. A moment later the spider shattered apart into countless pixels, leaving him with some Col but little else.

With his few coins he stared into the distance curiously, his interest piqued. Where had the spider been going? And why? He starts heading in the direction it had been, his searching skill active to see for anything of note to him. His walk took a few minutes, but he found what he thought he was looking for. There was a large web up in the tree, with something wrapped up inside. If it was some kind of giant bug or such, it would have just shattered, so he figured something interesting waited within. As he moved to the tree to start climbing he hears a hissing and turns his head up suddenly. A second large spider had been hiding in the leaves, warning Zerva away. In response, Zerva kicks the tree, making it shake to aggravate the spider. He did NOT want to fight it up there, so he stepped back while waiting for it to come to him.

With the spider climbing down towards him, Zerva tries to take full advantage, running at the creature and stabbing his dagger forward, grinning evilly in the hopes the spider couldn't react in time, despite its numerous eyes. He manages to push his blade into the spiders fur covered chitin, leaving it with a little damage and offering himself some time to retreat away before it could retaliate!

With the spider full aware this was now a conflict, it hissed and moved after Zerva with it's scythe-like front legs poised to swing, making Zerva consider how he was going to try and counter the creature. Sometimes the simplest solutions were the best. He dove forward, pushing himself over the spider and past its swinging arms and grazing the top of the spider's abdomen with his dagger on the way over! He rolled a bit to soften the landing before landing onto his legs, prepared for the spider's next move.

Having a good start going, he tries to keep it up, stepping closer towards the spider while keeping away from it's spinneret, waiting for it to swing one of its arms while turning to try and catch him off guard. The spider succeeded, but through another method. It leapt sideways onto the nearby tree and then back at him! Zerva just barely had time to duck before it sailed over his head with its scythes, almost giving him a haircut in the process.

Resisting the urge to touch the top of his head testingly as the spider lands he turns towards it, moving closer with the intent of attacking before it recovered from its clever little stunt! The stunts kept on coming though. Before he knew it the spider had shot a web backwards to the tree again and pulled back! Zerva was close lined by the monster and hit the ground with a thud as it landed onto the tree again.

Feeling a distinct sense of embarrassment and annoyance, Zerva gets back up onto his legs to face the now securely on the ground monster. He was amazed at how well planned out its movement was, but tried to keep in mind it was just an AI, so someone else thought up that move for it at some point. Apparently taking offense to Zerva's thoughts, the spider starts charging him, swinging its scythes like the most efficient farmer in the world, making Zerva back the heck away with his eyes wide at its outburst.
