Nicklaus had finally stepped out of his comfort zone. For almost eight long years in this game, he had done nothing productive. However, he finally had enough of the lifestyle. It was time for him to do something productive with his time. In real life he had built up a mini empire in business while being in highschool. Therefore the economics of Aincrad should not be too difficult for him.

For years, he had studied how the game system work and was looking for a way to strike it rich by becoming a brand new merchant. After all, he realized merchants were the most powerful players in the game given their ability to identify and uncover a lot of the strongest weapons in this game that players receive. After all, they would have trouble reading the words. After watching everything play out, Klaus was finally ready to partake in this death game.

He had managed to convince his younger brother that he should be the one playing this game as the nervegear and the game sword art online was a physical gift to him. What he did not expect was to be trapped here for a very long time. Nicklaus arrived at the merchant shop inside the town of beginnings to await for his next step. He had played a lot of runescape and world of warcraft growing up, so these quests would not be too difficult for him to understand.

Nicklaus surveyed the store entrance. There were no players or nobody other players or customers inside. It was now time to go inside this store. "I am looking for Drax to learn how to become a merchant." Nicklaus spoke. He did not want to be noticed by anybody that he was attempting to become a merchant.

"Do you have any Col? Umm. No. What about anything? Let me think for a second." Drax said as he examined the poor player in front of him. "I am not teaching you for free, you must earn you way to become a merchant. Here's what I will do, if you can find three items, I will help train you to be a merchant."

That was a fair proposition for Nicklaus. "I accept your terms." He responded.

The quest log had automatically updated with the new instructions. He knew he needed to get this quest over with as fast as possible to begin work. However, he knew this was a good way for him to get stronger. As Nicklaus began to exit the shop, he knew where he was headed. He needed to go to the plains outside of the Town of Beginning to search for items. Perhaps, he would also be able to find other things out in the wilderness.

As Nicklaus left the shop, he needed to find his way out to the fields in the town of beginning. However, he was lost, and did not know where to go. He managed to stumble back to the teleportation gate. After all, he did not live in any hotel on this floor, so he would not know where to go.

He finally saw a NPC guard, "Hello. Can you tell me how to exit this town to the grassy fields?" Nicklaus asked.

The NPC guard gave no response and ignored him as he went his own way.

Nicklaus cursed. He wished he was strong enough to kill that guard right there but he was in a safety of the town. Instead he saw another young girl walk up to him and tug his shirt. The kid responded, "You can exit by walking done that street."

Nicklaus waved and responded to the girl. "Thank You. Here you go." He handed her a candy from a famous NPC store on this floor. He knew that the girl should have been taught to never take stuff from strangers, but he wanted to reward her for the answer in a way that did not involve any money. After all, he was poor.

Nicklaus had finally arrived outside the town of beginning into the plains that surround the town. He would have to be very careful to avoid any boars that may show up. He was of course very weak at level one with some equipment. He knew he would have to find a way to keep safe while this quest. This was the first time he had left the safety of the town, and it was a thrilling moment. He knew he needed to begin searching for materials immediately. The only thing he could do is to walk outside to and start searching.

It did not take him long to see something up ahead shining very bright. He had heard about materials in the wild being very easy to find once they began shining and glowing in the dark. With this knowledge, Nicklaus walked towards it knowing there was something there. The question is what is the item in front of him.

It was a weapon.

An uncommon weapon

Nicklaus already had a weapon in inventory, so finding another weapon, while nice was not the best thing in the world. He knew that he would have to search harder to find something that was more rare. It was hard looking all around on floor one, he had to avoid any animals that may be nearby to strike him. After all, he had never tried combat in Aincrad until now. He was not planning on beginning right now. While he was strong enough, the last thing he wanted to do was to be slaughtered by a group of low level boars or pigs that infested the wilderness of the floor.

Nicklaus saw something in front of him begin to glow, so he immediately made his way over there. Luckily, there were no other players nearby so he should be fine. He arrived and there was a box, he began to reach for it. Nicklaus had received another item, and it was some armour. It was also rare, which had more enhancements than what he is wearing right now.

Finally, with two of the three items picked up, Nicklaus continued to walk deeper into the plains around the town of beginning. He knew that he was hoping to look for an amazing item up ahead. He needed to look for something strong. He had hoped it would show up in front of him, as he need to pick up yet another item. As Nicklaus continued walking deeper, he found another bright light in front of him.

He decided to walk over there as it would signal where another item may be found. Nicklaus walked over there and hoped it was good enough. There it was, it was laying there out in the middle of the wilderness, waiting for any player to come by to pick it up. As he looked he saw it was another piece of armour just sitting here in the wild.

Nicklaus walked closer and decided to pick it up in his inventory. Hopefully, it would be a good item. Nicklaus looked around and knew that it was time for him to head back into town, and he began making his way out of the plains.

Nicklaus had finally arrived back inside Drax's shop. It had took him close to half an hour to leave the plains and re-enter the town of beginnings. He had nearly gotten lost around the town once again. He knew that he would have to be careful going forward, and had to learn how to read the map so he can move across town. He had also stopped at a local shop to grab some coffee. Nicklaus knew that this was going to be a long day and he needed the caffeine boost to help him get through today.

As he entered the shop, Drax was busy with another customer. Once the customer had left, he turned to Drax. "I have collected the three items that you have requested, a weapon and two pieces of armour." Nicklaus said. "Can you help me identify them?"

"No, that is your job. My goal is only to guide you to identifying the items that you have found." Drax said. "Once you are ready, you can put all three items on the table over there, and we can begin."

Nicklaus had laid down all the items he found on the table below. He began to examine each item carefully. Nicklaus started off with the weapon that he found before moving on towards the two pieces of armour that he had found. It took a while but Nicklaus had finally identified the items with the help of Drax.

"Thank You Drax." Nicklaus said. It was finally time for Nicklaus to leave as he had completed the quest requirements for today. He would now decided to think about what he wanted to do for the rest of the day. He decided he will go back to visit the first floor plains to challenge the boars that are wondering around on the first floor plains. This was a good idea as he knew he needed to fight to get stronger in this game, and there is no better way to learn than to face off against some of the weakest monsters available in the game. Hopefully it will not be too difficult for this skilled warrior in combat.

With the main part of the quest over, Nicklaus decided to head back to the plains to try against some of the animals found there. It did not take long for him to find a boar who was by itself on the first floor. It would be the perfect target for Nicklaus to attempt to learn how to battle. He took out his straight sword and began making his way towards the single boar. He had learned how to fight a very long time ago with a sword from his father who he wanted to forget. He just had to make sure it translated the same mechanics into the game.

He ran towards the boar and began preforming the first sword art he could think of towards the boar. He knew that there was a good chance he could miss but he was willing to take the risk. Nicklaus struck it with a single strike. The boar had died immediately.

Nicklaus needed something else to do. He got tired after defeating one weak boar. He decided it was time to explore the plains while searching for materials at the exact same time. He did not expect this to go well but he was going to try. It was the bare minimum of what he could do, which was to explore.

After taking into the sites of the plains, he wanted to find something rare, a special plant that he had grew up hating his entire life. It was now in front of him. It was the pink plant of vervain. He wanted to destroy the flower but there was so much in this corner of the floor. Nicklaus now had a decision to make, whether or not he should try to collect the plant for a later use. He decided to collect it, after all, he could always figure out a use for the plant at a later date.

Nicklaus continued to search for rare items out in the field. He did not expect his luck to repeat but he knew to at least try. At the very least, he was not allergic to vervain in the game as he was in real life. So he was able to physical see the plant in a lot closer detail than he would in the real world. It was a strange plant as he does not know why it was one of the things he was allergic to. Normally people have allergies to hay or peanuts, but not him. It was some obscure plant that is not everywhere.

Nicklaus thought he saw something shiny in this field of vervain and began walking towards it. As he got closer the shiny item was just a broken spoon. It was likely carried there by a crow who was collecting shiny items. This was junk and not even worth his time searching for. So he left the spoon behind and continued to search.

Nicklaus saw a small field of gravel and soil nearby that was empty. This was a empty spot where no vervain was growing. He decided to take a chance and began digging at this part of the field. Perhaps he would be lucky enough to find a gem or another item at this part of the field. He had hoped that this would be the case, but knew that there was also a chance that he would be unable to find anything here.

Nicklaus continued to dig because he was lost and confused at what to do. He was trying a little to hard to find something to do this afternoon and digging for materials seem like the best option that he had. Besides, there was nothing else he could do other than dig for materials in this floor one plains. He could try to move over to the stone valley but he decided not to as he wanted to stay here which was not too far from the safety of the town of beginnings.

Nicklaus decided it was time to head back into town of beginning. He had spent enough time out in the wild, and knew that it was time for him to return back onto the first floor. After all, he was now starving and he needed to find some food to eat for tonight. It did not take him long before he had arrived back inside the town. He was looking for food options when an Italian place had caught his eye.

He had entered the restaurant which was not packed. He was quickly lead to his table and the NPC waiter had presented him with the menu. He was going to try the seafood spaghetti today with clams and shrimp. It was an interesting combination but he would never turn down the offer of seafood. While waiting for his food, he also decided it was time to grab a drink. He had order some white wine to go with his meal. He sat at his table waiting for the food to arrive.

He sat there enjoying his drink which had arrived first while listening to the music that was playing around him. This was the life in Aincrad, he was carefree without needing to think about anything else happening in the world.

It took a while for his food to arrive, not that he minded the extra wait. After all, Nicklaus was always willing to wait a little longer for better quality food. In his entire life, he had grown accustomed to living well off especially with his mini empire that he built up for himself in the real world. Today was about celebration of his new skill, being able to identify items.

This was a very valuable skill as it would allow him the ability to start generating some additional side income for assisting other players. Nicklaus was a very practical person, he knew that it would be unlikely he would be able to feature in any of the upcoming boss battles, so his next best alternative was to help build the economy. He had read a lot lately and studied the economics of games. That was why he wanted to be an intermediary such as an appraiser where he would be able to hopefully identify some valuable items in the game.

The waiter had come back with another refill of his drink.

Nicklaus' food had finally arrived. It had taken a while, so this better be worth it. Nicklaus took the first bite and he was shocked at the high end quality of the spaghetti for a simple restaurant. After all, this was just the normal random restaurant on the first floor. There was no glitz or glamor of some of the the other restaurants that are well known in this game. The seafood was cooked to perfection, it melted right in his mouth. Nothing was tough or overcooked like rubber.

The pasta was cooked to perfection. It was not over cooked or mushy which was the worst mistake anyone could ever have with spaghetti. The sauce was on point and everything had paired up together with the wine combination that was recommended as part of this course. Nicklaus continued to eat until he had finished the whole plate. He was now thinking about whether or not to get some dessert with this meal. He would have to remember this hole in the wall joint and come back another day in the future.

He was surprised at why this restaurant was not very well known.

The waiter had finally made her way back over to where Nicklaus was sitting. The waiter had asked, "How are you enjoying your meal so far. Is there anything you would want? Dessert?"

Nicklaus responded, "Can I get the dessert menu, and what would you recommend for dessert?"

The waiter left and returned with a copy of the menu before going over some of the options on the menu. "I recommend one of the signature desserts, it is a warm banana and coconut butter cake served with a banana puree. It has been a staple of our menu for many years."

Nicklaus thought about it for a second, he knew he could get some of the other desserts at other places but since he was here, he might as well go all out and try some of the staple desserts that they served at this restaurant. "Sure, I will take your advice and get the signature banana and coconut butter cake."

Nicklaus had waited for some more time. Eventually, the dessert had finally arrived. It was perfect. There was a big piece of cake in the middle of the plate with a banana puree at the bottom in a white liquid. On top of the cake was an assortment of mixed berries with some icing sugar over top. It looked stunning.

Nicklaus began to cut into the dessert with his knife and he knew he was going to be working out tomorrow to burn off the calories from this meal. Tonight, however, he was going to spend time to enjoy the dessert in front of him. It was perfect. He could tell that this was an instant star of the entire meal. The pasta was great but this was better. He would have to come back and order a dessert next time only. He slowly savoured each bite as he ate into the dessert.

By the time he was finished, he was full and slowly got up to pay the bill. It was a fantastic meal to celebrate his accomplishments today, now it was time to leave.

Nicklaus began to wonder back through the streets of the town of beginning. He was almost done today but it was difficult to find his hotel that he was staying at. He had been renting a room near the town square, so he slowly wondered towards there. On his way towards the town square, he noticed there were a lot more people today. Perhaps, today was the day of a festival, so Nicklaus decided to join and see what it was all about.

He had walked towards the streets where there were a lot of people enjoying food from street stalls. While he was full, he decided to see what food they had on offer. It was a lot of street snacks, which did not interest him as much since he preferred food with a lot more refinement and not food that can be served to the masses. However, he did caught a glimpse of a girl with pink hair walking by. Could this be? He had spent a long time looking for his sister but she has not been found after all these years.

Nicklaus thought back to her sister. She had purchased the game to play with his younger brother. But the younger brother only got the money to purchase the game and the nervegear because of him. That was why he agreed to let him play this game on the release date as he was busy. After all, someone needed to watch their little sister so she does not get in trouble in an online game.

He had looked at the monument on the first floor and her name had never showed up there. This had meant only one thing, she was still alive. After all, he had checked up on her in her room prior to logging in. It was a surprised that they had not seen each other yet after seven years of the start of the game. He was beginning to lose hope until just now.

Nicklaus had stopped daydreaming, and tried looking around. There was nobody around him with pink hair. Was it all a dream.

It had taken about fifteen more minutes before Nicklaus was able to find the hotel that he was staying in. It was a rather old place and he wanted to move soon. But he was quite poor in this game, so he knew that it would take some time before he was able to afford somewhere nicer.

As he opened the door to his room, he could feel for once he had finally done something useful in this game. He had spent a very long time doing nothing and that was going to change starting tomorrow. He put in a fresh set of clothes and decided to take a shower. It was very hard work searching in the sun for three new items in the plains as he had never left the safety of the town before.

Tomorrow he would have to go on that lead to look for his sister but for now it was finally time for bed.
