[F1-SP-PT-CS] The Dangerous Catch <The Third Lesson>

Recommended Posts

Rebekah knew that it was finally time for her today to finish this set of beginner's quest. She had known for a while this would be the last quest in the set of beginner's quest that she would have to complete in order to finally move on to the next stage of Aincrad. She realized that she had not completed this quest and this would provide a challenge for her as she inch closer to tier six. Rebekah knew that she was about a few levels short and knew that by completing this quest she would arrive closer at her goal.

Therefore, she had found herself once again on the first floor with her owl, Snowball. It had been a while since she had the time to fight a strong boss, so she was looking forward to the challenge. There was only so much she could prepare for, it was time for her to head out towards the dock. The last time she was here, Rebekah had mysteriously found her older brother learning to fish. So, she wondered would anything special happen this time? She had doubt anything would happen. Usually her life is not that exciting, so it was not expected for anything out of the ordinary to happen.

She had to make a decision about her outfit today, and knew there was a chance she may get wet. So she had dressed accordingly and was prepared for it in case she had gotten soaked or had to go into the water today. Rebekah was not afraid as she knew how to swim.

Now that Rebekah had made her way over towards the dock at the town of beginnings. She knew she was looking for a fisherman who was supposed to be around here. However, she could already smell the stench of the pier. It was a disgusting smell, and Rebekah knew she did not want to be here any longer than she should be. However, the only thing Rebekah could see was a lot of fishing vessels but no fisherman located anywhere on the dock, or on their respective boats.

Rebekah opened up her quest log and began reading her instructions once again. It had felt like there were no NPCs nearby as they were all gone. However, she was sure this was the place where she had to go. Rebekah was lost and did not know where to go, so she began to head back towards the shore. That was where she had last seen a NPC. She knew she would have to find someone to ask. Rebekah was looking for a Pete Larkin. Eventually, Rebekah finally ran into a NPC. "Hello, can you tell me where Pete Larkin is?" Rebekah had asked the NPC fisherman.

The nameless NPC then pointed towards a direction. Rebekah had not searched that side of the dock yet since the dock was quite large, as it had fit many boats. Rebekah therefore, began to walk in that direction hoping to find Pete to begin her quest for today.

After walking what felt like forever, Rebekah finally arrived at the end of the dock. There was an NPC there with another grey beard. Could it be. It must be the NPC that she was looking for. "Hello, I am looking for Pete Larkin. The mayor had sent me over here to see if you needed some help." Rebekah tried to explain.

She could see Pete was another fisherman, but he had a much smaller boat. She knew that they had to fight something today but did not know what she was going to have to look for. Perhaps, it was a fish. That was the only logical explanation Rebekah could think of. Therefore, Rebekah waited for the NPC to explain.

Out of the corner of her eye, Snowball had finished exploring and hunting and landed back onto the pink hair girl's shoulder. Her owl wanted to join her for this, which means she could sense something was going to happen. It did not take long for the event to happen and trigger the next part of this quest. Pete was trying to explain that they wanted to catch a fish out in the water, but it was also strong enough to be a monster. Therefore, they would have to be careful. Without much more though, Rebekah agreed to join and help Pete out. She got in the book and they made their way towards the fish hoping to catch it.

Now that Rebekah was on the boat, it was now her attempt to try to catch the fish, which she would have to fight in this quest. Rebekah looked down at her fishing pole. She had never gone fishing before. Sure, she had went and watch Nicklaus catch fish in the past, but she has never done it herself. This will be an interesting experience. All she hope for was that this would be a great chance for her to learn something today.

Rebekah knew that she had her owl with her. Snowball had gotten off her shoulder and stood in the boat as well. Rebekah did not have a life jacket on but she was not worried. The girl knew how to swim and was confident that she would not drown in the water. As they made their way towards the spot where the fish was last spotted, Rebekah threw out the fishing line into the water. Now it was time to pray and hope that this would work. All that there was left to do was to wait.

While waiting, Rebekah decided to strike up a conversation with the NPC, given that there was nothing else to do. "So, Pete, How long have you become a fisherman?" Rebekah asked. She knew that each NPC had their backstory and maybe this time, this NPC would be willing to share his story with Rebekah.

Since the line was not pulling yet, Rebekah knew that they had not yet caught the fish. This may be a long day, but she had hoped that her fishing skills was good enough to catch the monster early. It was now Pete's time to tell her about his fisherman journey. "I started fishing at a very young age. My grandparents who were fisherman brought me along when I was a lot younger. I remember sailing out into the ocean to catch all types of fish, from salmon, halibut, tuna and cod. I enjoy being out in the water and being the captain of my own vessel." Pete explained.

It was interesting to hear the backstory of the NPC who was here to guide her on Rebekah's quest today. A lot of times, Rebekah tend to gloss over and did not try to get to know the NPCs who were part of the quests, but she knew they had their own story to tell. Normally, if this was an actual game, Rebekah would have been frustrated at not being able to catch anything. However, since she was actively doing this in Aincrad, she had learned a long time ago to be calm. A lot of this game was determined by luck, and Rebekah knew that she just need to be ready for anything.

Rebekah had a follow up question, "What is your favourite fish to catch?"

That was an interesting question for Pete. It was not everyday when a player would ask about their favourite fish. The best fish to catch is salmon. Pete had loved salmon and it was one of his favourite foods. "My answer is salmon. It can only be caught at specific times of the year, when the adult fish is heading back inland towards the river. It is a very versatile fish which can be used in a variety of dishes. It also helps that salmon sells for very high prices." Pete explained.

While that was no the type of answer Rebekah was hoping for, she knew that this was true. One of the dishes in her shop relied on the usage of smoked salmon and she knew that this was very expensive. It had taken her a very long time to be able to find a supplier and a way to purchase this in bulk so that she could make her dish at an affordable price. Rebekah was seriously considering smoking the salmon herself going forward to try to cut down on the expensive cost of salmon.

"What do you often do while you are waiting for a fish to bite on the line?" Rebekah asked. She did not have much experience with this but hoped he can provide some insight so she was able to help her older brother out the next time they went on that fishing trip in the snow.

It was preciously at this time Rebekah felt a heavy tug on her fishing pole. This was a big one she though. Rebekah began to start reeling the fish towards her.

Since the fish was immediately caught, Rebekah can see it was a fish with a giant bill akin to the a swordfish. Rebekah knew that she did not want to get anywhere close to to that as it could represent significant damage. Therefore, Rebekah knew that she would have to be careful. She looked at her owl, and told her "Snowball attack." Her owl immediately flew up into the air and began a steep dive towards the fish.

At the same time, Rebekah took out her rapier and began to channel a sword art at the fish in front of her. Rebekah wanted to time this just perfectly. She wanted Snowball to hit first before landing her attack immediately right after. There was a small window of time where this could be executed perfectly.

Luckily Pete's boat was big enough so any sudden movements by her owl or herself will not be able to tip over the boat. That would have been a disaster if that had happen. Rebekah was surprised this fish can jump and stay out of the water and breathe for such a long time. She knew that she needed to make this strike count.

Rebekah's stab had hit the fish, which had lost a lot of its health points with their combined attack.

With their successful attack in the first round, Rebekah and Snowball had made it such that Rebekah only needed one more turn to strike and finish the fish that was in front of her. Rebekah had felt a sigh of relief as Snowball landed back onto the boat to recuperate before it would strike again.

Rebekah knew that it was not expecting Snowball to attack again but it was fun to have her owl in battle with her. It had allowed her an extra companion especially when she was fighting these dangerous and difficult bosses all by herself. There was only one thing left on the girl's mind. This was to kill the fish that was in front of her. Rebekah knew that if she missed, it would allow the fish a chance to strike her. So, Rebekah knew that she had to be very careful.

Rebekah was starting to think too far out into the future. This was dangerous as she was trapped in a battle in the present. She quickly shook off the thoughts of what she wanted to do next. She had to focus on now, and this had meant slaying the animal that was in front of her so she can return to shore.

With another stab at the fish in front of her, the fish had immediately died and burst into the blue pixels. Rebekah can finally breathe a sign of relief and take a break.

With the fish dead, Rebekah had almost completed the entire beginner quest. All she had to do left was to report to the mayor Dorian after a long time since she had started this quest. The first thing Rebekah needed to do was to return back to shore and the dock. She told Pete that they had finally accomplish their goal today and it was now time to return.

It was not a long journey but Rebekah had enjoy being on a boat on the water. She would like to return one day but on her own boat if she could afford one. Rebekah knew that she would have to save up a lot in order to own a boat, so she would have to start soon. As soon as they got closer to the shore, her owl immediately took off and flew up into the air to potentially scout for any danger nearby. That was the benefit of having an owl as her familiar. Rebekah was able to get a scouting report of her route if she needed one.

This was in addition to the fact that Snowball had became a travel companion who could help her fight and make her job a lot easier in more difficult boss fights going forward. Her bird was a very loyal friend.

Now that Rebekah had finally made it back to the dock. It was now time to say goodbye to Pete and thank him for the ride towards finding the fish. It was now time for Rebekah to head back to the town. She knew she wanted to take the more scenic route to return. She knew that the town centre was busy at this time of the day and Rebekah wanted to avoid the massive crowds. Therefore, she headed towards the forest taking the long way which brought her out into the wilderness before taking another entrance back in the town.

As Rebekah began walking, Snowball had returned from her scouting trip. Apparently, she was going to approach a bunch of boars which were blocking the path. The boars were awake and were very aggressive, trying to attack any players who dare to approach them. Her owl was able to communicate this to her by hooting.

Therefore, Rebekah knew that she had a choice to make, either she go forward and face the boars and fight. Her other option was to retreat and walk the other way. However, Rebekah was not the type of person to give up so easily. She also wanted to remove the boars from blocking her route which meant that other players and NPCs would be affected as well. So she made her decision, Rebekah was going to have to fight the boars which was up ahead.

Since Rebekah still had not made it towards the boars that were up ahead, she had not triggered any animals to come charging at her. Rebekah wanted to take this time to scout her next move. She could see that there were four giant boars on the first floor. This would have presented a challenge to any low level player but Rebekah should be able to be fine given her level and type of experience that she had under her belt in this game.

Therefore, Rebekah would not be too concerned running full speed at the boars in order to defeat them as soon as possible. There was only one concern, and this was whether or not more boars will show up once Rebekah makes this next move. Because of this uncertainty, Rebekah decided her best course of action is to wait another few seconds before heading into combat. She knew that her energy bar would be fully regenerated soon, so she was not going to take this chance. She knew that as a single player it was always better to err on the side of caution. Especially since she did not want to get herself killed by facing off against too many monsters at the same time. Besides she wanted to wait until the boars were not looking at her so she could get off a quick attack.

Now that Rebekah's energy have been fully restored, Rebekah knew that now was her chance to go out and strike. For the second time today, Rebekah pulled out her rapier and began to quietly make her way closer towards the boars which were laying down on the ground. As soon as she had gotten close enough, Rebekah ran towards the boars and knew that the opening strike is of the upmost importance. A good start to this battle would signal an easy fight. Likewise, if she were to miss multiple strikes, this would be a disaster for everyone including herself. Therefore, Rebekah knew that this opening move was always the most important. Therefore, she knew that she should always start with the a tech skill.

This had been Rebekah's opening move against all monsters so she knew that it would be important to start off on the right step. As Rebekah lunged forward to quickly stab all four boars, she hoped that this would work once again. She had hoped the AI did not get smarter as she used the same opening move over and over again. She had perfected this moved, and hoped the boars were unable to counter this strike once again.

Rebekah had missed the first boar but made up with it by striking and stunning the other three boars that were laying on the ground. She managed to get them before they could react.

With three of the four animals stunned and unable to react, Rebekah knew that this would be the perfect opportunity to quickly strike and defeat the remaining animals so she could make this situation a lot more manageable. While the boars were not a difficult boss, Rebekah knew that she would like to reduce the number of monsters fighting her at a single time, so that she could easily dodge and be better defensively. When dodging attacks from multiple monsters, Rebekah knew that it would be better if she was able to easily track one animal attacking her rather than four at the same time. It was still doable but it was not something she wanted to do that often.

It would be too much to keep in mind during a battle, so Rebekah instinctively prepared a second sword art ready to go. She knew that this was the first opportunity that she received all day to try to eliminate several boars to make her attack in the next round a lot easier. Regardless, Rebekah knew that she had the experience to deal with these situations, even if she had not truly faced multiple monsters in almost two months. She would have to take advantage of this opportunity as she was planning another trip to Nature's Treasure soon to restock on some important supplies.

It was a successful second round, Rebekah had manage to defeat half of the boars leaving only two remaining in front of him. Since there were only two boars left with each of them having less than half of their remaining health points, Rebekah knew that this would be a lot easier situation to deal with. While one of the boars managed to hit Rebekah last turn dealing minor damage, she was surprised to find out that the entire damage had healed back up immediately.

Rebekah did have strong battle healing which made these battles very safe for her. She thought about her older brother, and wondered how would he have handled this situation. She knew that she would have to teach him to battle multiple monsters at the same time, but the first thing he needed was to gain some more levels and experience before he could join her on some of the more difficult quests that were upcoming.

With two boars left, Rebekah knew that she should not take too long to finish this battle, so she once again readied the same sword art knowing that she was this close to returning to the city and finishing her quest for the day.

After finally defeating the boars, it was time for Rebekah to continue walking forward on this path and make her way back to the town to report to the mayor. She had almost forgotten about that part of the quest, but knew that she needed to start walking faster. The last thing Rebekah had wanted right now as to get drawn into another battle in the wild. While she was happy with the loot that she had received so far for defeating the pigs, she knew that she wanted to return to the city so she could head back to her busy shop to continue crafting additional consumables.

It was at this point, Snowball flew back up into the sky to do a final reconnaissance to check if there were any danger before she could step back into the town and protected by the safe area. However, Snowball had reported some bad news. Up ahead, there were multiple bears roaming the path. Rebekah had wondered why she had chosen the longer path into the settlement. She knew this was a short cut since it would lead right to where Dorian could be found but there were just too many monsters today. She supposed it was a good thing that she was clearing the path and making it safe again for others who may use this route to get to the docks.

As Rebekah continue walking, she could notice that as scouted, there were four bears in front of her. Thanks to her owl, Rebekah was already prepared for this. Since she was almost at the entrance into the settlement, there was no reason to turn around and head back. It would be more efficient for Rebekah to face these bears so she can easily head into the safety of the town afterwards. However, Rebekah was wondering, why were there strong monsters patrolling the perimeter of this settlement. This was floor one. This was something she would have to discuss with someone later, and find out the reason why.

Rebekah took out her rapier once again, and made her way towards the bears. This time, the bears were watching her ready to pounce so she needed to make sure there were no sudden movements until Rebekah was in range. She had to be extra careful this time since the boars were just lying down sun tanning last time. This time, she was dealing with dangerous bears which in her mind was a lot stronger than the boars she had faced about five minutes ago. When Rebekah got close enough, she now made her move to get close and strike the bears.

These bears were a lot more difficult than the boars she had just faced. It was evident that her opening move was not as effective, as Rebekah had only manage to strike and stun one of the four bears. This meant that she had a lot more dodging to do and had to be a lot more cautious on this upcoming move. Rebekah knew she would not be able to eliminate multiple bears on this next strike, but she needed to at least reduce their health to a more manageable state. Right now, the combat is slanted towards the bears favour but Rebekah had a plan. She knew she was an expert at striking multiple targets at once and knew that she would have to take advantage of that experience that she had.

Rebekah made sure that the bears were close enough grouped up before she could strike again. She started moving to manipulate the bears to stand next to each other as they made an attempt to chase her. The bears had fallen right into her trap, so Rebekah knew that this was now her chance. All she had to do now is to execute on her next strike.

Rebekah also called Snowball to help against the third bear. Snowball landed her strike against the bear with ease.

Now that one of the four bears have been defeated. There were a lot less things to watch out for in combat. In both of the first two rounds of combat, Rebekah had noticed that three bears had attack her in both rounds. This was not ideal. Rebekah had missed about half of her strikes against these bears so far. Luck was clearly not on her side right now. She did not feel like these bears were more difficult than the boars but she was having a lot more trouble. There was only one thing she could think of, and this was to try using a more complex skill. Normally, Rebekah had avoided using the second area of effect skill since it had used a lot more energy. However, with her depleting reserve, Rebekah knew that she did not want to extend this battle for any longer than she wanted. Therefore, she had to use it now.

Rebekah activated the sword skill and once again tried her hardest to strike and stab all three bears in the single turn. She hoped this would be enough damage as she wanted to end the combat on this turn so she can return into the town right afterwards. Her low energy levels made her aware that she cannot stay out in the wild for any longer.

Now that the path was completely clear of animals, Rebekah was finally able to make it back into the safety of the town to find Dorian. She was tired from the consecutive battles between the boars and the bears on land. So she knew that she was going to enjoy the rest of her afternoon off.

As she made her way towards the town centre, she could not find the mayor anywhere. She had thought he was around here, but there were nobody around dressed up in a suit with a grey beard and hair. Since she did not find him, Rebekah decided to walk up to a local NPC and ask for directions. She knew that the mayor would be around here somewhere.

"Excuse me, but do you know where I can find the mayor Dorian White? He should be around here." Rebekah asked the first merchant that she could see. She had chosen a merchant because they would be in the same spot everyday, which meant the merchant's stall was right here.

The merchant immediately responded to Rebekah's question, "He should be here in a few minutes. He comes to the town centre at eleven a.m. It is now five to eleven." The merchant explained.

Rebekah decided to wait around for five minutes. She had returned way too early.

After a few more minutes of waiting, the mayor had finally arrived at the town centre right on time at exactly eleven o'clock. Rebekah could here the town bell right eleven times as he walked into the busy and bustling plaza. Rebekah made her way over to the mayor before any other player got there to start the quest. She wanted to get out of here as soon as possible. The earlier she left, the faster she could relax this afternoon.

Rebekah spoke to Dorian, "Hello, I have returned with the swordfish jawbone from Pete." Rebekah handed the reward over to Dorian, and immediately received the standard quest completion notification. She spoke with Dorian for a few more minutes before it was time for Rebekah to make her way towards the teleportation gate to leave this floor one town. She planned to return one day but she had finally finish and completed the set of beginner's quest.

She knew that this would have been very useful some seven years ago, when she had first started, but none the less, she would finally receive the valuable experience points for completing this quest today. Rebekah then stepped into the teleportation gate and selected fourth floor. She would have to drop off her rewards first.
