[F9-SP-PT-CS] Fire Fighting <Into the Fire>

Recommended Posts

Rebekah was a person who had preferred the cold temperatures of the fourth floor. So, when she had heard there was a quest on the ninth floor in an underground cave of a volcano, she wanted to stay as far away as possible. However, as her outstanding quest list began to dwindle, she knew that one day she would have to visit here to challenge this quest.

The moment, Rebekah had stepped out of the teleportation gate on the Yogan Village, Rebekah could already feel the smoldering temperature that surrounded them. There was no relief from this heat dome. Luckily, Rebekah had managed to pack lots of cool and refreshing beverages to keep her hydrated in these conditions. The last thing she wanted to do was to pass out by herself due to a heatstroke.

She was currently at the base of Mount Kazan where the settlement lied. However, Yogan Village was not her destination today, Rebekah knew that she would have to began the trek to the top of the other volcano on this floor. She needed to visit Knorilt Village, which was where the quest would begin. Today, she bought her owl with her. Snowball who had also hated the heat was not a happy owl. After all, Rebekah had caught the stubborn bird back on the fourth floor, so it was also not enjoying this weather. The owl was making his opinion known to Rebekah. "Quiet down Snowball. The better you cooperate, the faster we can finish this quest and be out of here." Rebekah told the owl. The owl must have understood these words as it had stop fussing over the heat.

Since she had to make the journey, Rebekah made sure to ask a local NPC for directions before heading out. The last thing she wanted to do was to get lost today. She was barely functioning in this heat, so when you add the dangerous element of fighting a few monsters on this floor, it was a recipe for disaster.

After obtaining directions from a local NPC in Yogan Village, Rebekah began to head south towards the famous Mount Hellion where her destination of Kornilt Village awaits. The first part of the trek was easy as there was no elevation changes. It had felt like being in a valley. Eventually, Rebekah knew that she would have to go uphill. So, she made sure not to burn herself out by doing too much strenuous movements. Rebekah had to make sure she was incorporating enough breaks in today's journey as a result.

This was not something that she had done too often in the past, but she wanted to be ready when the actual boss fighting began. So, until it was time, it was her idea to take things a little bit slower today. She rather have everything done slowly but correctly than having to redo everything once again.

It did not take her long to reach the base of Mount Hellion. It was now time to climb the mountain to reach this village. This would not be fun especially going uphill on such a hot and humid day.

This was the uphill portion of the hike to Knorilt Village. This was a difficult portion of the hike. Rebekah wondered whether or not the downhill portion later today would be any easier. Luckily, the path was not filled with players or NPC. Even if it was full of people, there were plenty of places for someone to get off the trail to the side and take a break. Rebekah was not pushing herself so she was taking frequent breaks to catch her breathe. She knew it was a lot more difficult to breathe the higher in elevation she went.

Therefore, she was feeling the effects of being short on breathe throughout this entire journey. This was a demanding climb and the sun shinning down on them did not help. Rebekah wanted to curse at the person who thought this floor was such an amazing idea. A lot of people such as herself would naturally avoid this floor unless necessary to get out of the heat. She would consider this floor worse than the one with the desert. At least there was relief in the desert, this floor was worst in her opinion.

Rebekah kept trudging along and after what had felt like forever, she could see the town up ahead. She was almost there. She would have to head indoors right away to take a quick break and also to try to find a way out of the heat, or at least get some relief somewhere.

Rebekah had finally arrived at the top of the mountain which was where the village was located. The first thing she did was head indoors to the first building that was selling cool and refreshing liquids. She was thirsty and she needed a break from the elements. As she began to stock up once again on supplies, she asked the clerk in the general store, "Do you know where I can find the Injured Broker? He is the one who explains knows where the beast which terrorizes this village is located."

It did not take long for the girl to receive a response. "You can find the Injured Broker in this building. It is next to the town centre. You cannot miss it." The NPC responded.

After stocking up on some important supplies, and taking the time to cool off from the steep hike. Rebekah began to make her way towards the Injured Broker. Since she was provided directions, it did not take long for her to find the village centre where the building was located. Without wasting any additional time, Rebekah decided to head into the building and look around. There were quite a lot of NPCs in this building, but Rebekah was soon able to spot the person who she wanted to see.

Now that she had arrived, she walked up to the man who was clearly injured and wrapped up in a white bandage. Rebekah began the next phase of the quest which was to obtain information from the Injured Broker. She first started off by asking, "Hi, can you tell me more about Cerberus?" Rebekah had asked.

The Injured Broker responded, "The beast that is haunting this village. Yes, I was the first person to find him and escape to return to tell the tale. Unfortunately, the rest of my party perish in their attempt to escape. The beast lives in the inferno cavern. Be careful, it is hot enough that you may get burned while you are inside. In addition, there are also additional hellhounds which can be found inside. Brave adventurer, are you interested in saving the town by slaying the beast?"

This was the start word to officially activate the quest. Rebekah looked around and knew that nobody else was coming to join her. She could handle the quest all by herself so she accepted immediately. "I accept." Rebekah said.

The Injured Broker than provided Rebekah a map of where the Inferno Cavern was. "Here is a map. You will have to make your way across the Volcanic Flatlands." The Broker Responded.

It was now time for Rebekah to make the trek across the volcano flatlands. This was a dangerous area to get caught out and left in. She wanted to traverse this area as fast as possible as the lava flow constantly shifts. Therefore, it was one place where you cannot be caught standing in the same place for very long. In order to make the crossing a lot safer, Rebekah knew that her owl can help. She asked Snowball to go and scout the surrounding areas and to report back to her if she sees any danger up ahead.

The owl flew off into the sky and began searching. It was now just herself alone until her owl would return. Rebekah decided to push on forwards as she waited for her owl to respond. She knew this trek would take about an hour. It was also important to watch where she was going. She had almost walked into a giant rock.

One thing Rebekah had noticed instantly was these were a lot of rocks cooled down from the lava flows. This meant that this area may be rich with natural resources. Therefore, she decided to see if the giant size rock in front of her could be foraged.

As Rebekah continued to walk onwards, she noticed it had gotten harder to walk. Rebekah finally decided to take a quick break as she was already halfway across the dangerous volcanic flatlands. So far she had managed to avoid all the lava. She was lucky that the lava had moved very slowly and it would take a long time for it to get to where she was. However, she did not want to rely on that, as if she had stayed too long such as spending the night camping, this would be very dangerous.

It was at this time, Snowball had finally returned from its scouting trip. There was nothing to report. It would be a safe path to the Inferno Cavern. That was very good news. Rebekah finished drinking some more water to keep herself hydrated today. It was not as hot as it was this morning but it was still very humid. She figured it would get worse in the cavern.

Rebekah now resumed her walk, desperate to search for another rare rock and minerals while she was here. This was an active volcano which meant that there would constantly be new raw materials that could be found. She knew there were stuff under the ground but she was just focus on seeing if she could collect anything while on her way without putting in a lot of work.

Finally, Rebekah had found something today in the flatlands. She looked at her map once again. Rebekah was almost at the entrance of the cave. All it would take was a few more minutes and she would arrive. She had been walking on the same rocky path for the past hour. She was more than ready to take on the monster in the cave.

As Rebekah made her approach she could notice that there was smoke coming out from the cave. This meant that the cave was very hot, a lot warmer than anywhere else on this floor. Luckily, Rebekah had the survival skill from a very long time ago. This would help her mitigate some of the extra damage that a harsh environment might impose on her. Rebekah still had a large quantity of liquids with her to cool herself. She decided it was time to drink more water now given that she would likely be stuck in combat and unable to escape once she steps into the cavern.

Rebekah could also hear noise from inside. Rebekah turned to Snowball and asked if the owl was ready. The owl nodded.

The first step into the Inferno Cavern was not enjoyable. Rebekah could feel a suffocating heat everywhere around her. She knew that she would have to get in and out of the cave as fast as she could. She recalled that her quest log had mentioned something about hellhounds. These were some sort of beasts that she would have to slay in this cave. Therefore it was of upmost importance that Rebekah went searching for these monsters immediately. She needed to find them before they would hunt her down.

It did not take her long to spot hellhounds inside the cavern. Since they were not focused on her at the moment, Rebekah wanted to take a deep breath and one final break before launching her attack. She knew that once combat started there was no time for rest. Therefore, she wanted to be fully rested before she went into battle. It also never hurts to be prepared. In order to do that, Rebekah took out her rapier and waited for the moment to strike. It was now a question of timing the attack to maximize the damage. She needed the animals to be close enough to defeat all three of them at once.

It did not take long for the three hellhounds to begin walking back closer to each other. Since they had their backs turned against Rebekah, Rebekah quickly and quietly moved her way closer to the monsters. She needed to get into range and as close as possible before launching her sword arts on these beasts. It was not everyday Rebekah had seen a fire hound. She did not want to get close enough to be potentially bitten by it. She could imagine a bleeding bite mark with burns would not be a good combination.

Therefore, she kept inching closer to three monsters. Once Rebekah was certain that the attack would land, she finally made her move to stab the hellhounds so they could pass away instantly. That was the goal, which was for her to strike down all the monsters before it would have a chance to attack her. Rebekah was lucky she was only facing three today. It would be an issue if she had to fight multiple as that would easily drain her energy.

Rebekah then launched her strike at the hellhounds, hoping that it would hit all three. It did strike all three and they died instantly.

Now that the three hellhounds have been easily defeated, Rebekah knew that it will almost be time to face the final boss, Cerberus. However, there was one question she had to think about. Does Rebekah want to make a complete rest before facing the three headed monster, or will she be willing to charge right into battle next turn. That was a difficult decision which there was no right or wrong answer.

She knew that she was here all by herself so it would be more practical to take it a little slower. On the other hand, she had only lost some energy and the rest of her health bar and her stats were all in tact. She decided not to completely rest up, and will leave to challenge the beast. She did not want to stay any longer in this cavern. Outside in the volcanic flatlands, she would be able to do a complete rest but not here. It was just too dangerous here without any support. Therefore, Rebekah was soon ready to head towards the final boss.

It was now time for Rebekah to face the boss, the three headed Cerberus. This was going to be a difficult battle since it was the first time she had faced a boss where it could attack multiple times. Therefore, she would have to be careful and hopefully knock out a few of the heads first before it had gotten too dangerous. Rebekah walked up towards the three headed beast and began to channel a sword art at the canine. She would hope that the attack would hit and be successful.

In order to up her chances at success, Rebekah decided to get as close as she can before beginning her attack. She knew that the heads would be dangerous if she kept them alive for a long time. Once Rebekah got a lot closer, she now made her move. She ran towards the beast in an attempt to strike the beast.

Rebekah missed the first head but was able to strike and defeat the other two on her first attempt. She then was able to easily dodge the attack by the only remaining head. It could have gone worst, but it could have also gone better.

With only one head left, Rebekah knew that she would have to be very careful. She needed to be very careful that she did not get hit by the remaining head. The heat in the inferno cavern made everything worse. She did not want to miss her next attack and be stuck in here for a lot longer. Rebekah knew that it would be a lot easier to defend and attack now that her focus had changed from three independent heads to one. This had made her job a lot easier. However, she knew that she would still have to execute on the upcoming strike.

There was only one thing for her to do and this was to attack the remaining head with confidence. It matters a lot being able to believe that she could defeat the monster, since a good attitude and mood might make the difference. Rebekah remembered that she needed to stay aggressive in these situations and try not be too passive. It was important to take calculated risks. Therefore, she immediately lunged right at the remaining head. The final head had died instantly from Rebekah's strike.

Now that Rebekah had completed the quest portion, she would now have to return to Knorilt Village to speak with the Injured Broker. Rebekah immediately knew that she wanted to exit the Inferno Cavern as soon as possible. It was still too hot for her liking, therefore she got out and decided to rest up in the cooler volcanic flatlands outside. It would be a lot safer outside as she knew she may suffer heat stroke if she had stayed there any longer.

As soon as Rebekah stepped outside, she knew it was important to rest up and hydrate before making her journey back to the village. She was not sure if she will encounter any monsters outside but she would have to be ready. Rebekah's energy was a little bit depleted from the previous battle and she would prefer to heal that back up before fighting any monsters which may show up on this route. Rebekah walked over to a nearby rock and began drinking some water. As she stood there, she noticed the rock looked special, perhaps it could be another material.

Now that it was time to head out again, Rebekah began to make her way deeper into the volcanic flatlands towards the peak of Mount Hellion where her destination of Knorilt Village can be found. She dreaded heading uphill once again. She was partially exhausted from this battle today. It did not help that Snowball, her owl, did not want to fly off into the distance and was sitting on her shoulder. Normally, Rebekah did not mind the extra weight but today she wanted to travel as light as possible.

It was physically exhausting to be out here on this floor. Rebekah kept her eyes open for any special igneous rocks that can be collected given that they could be strong material for blacksmithing. Rebekah knew that it was important to forage whenever possible since she never knew when she may end up finding something special out of nowhere. As she kept walking, Rebekah made sure that she was never in any danger from the slow moving but deadly lava flows. They had been slowly shifting this morning, and by the time it would be at her currently location, she should be safely at home by tonight. She was in no immediate danger at the moment.

She had found another material. This time it was not as valuable as the one she had found on her trip to the Inferno Cavern but it was a nice addition to her rewards for going on this journey today. Rebekah could finally make out the village up ahead. She had almost successfully trek back safely into safety of the village of where she had started this quest. This would be very important for her as she will be able to take a complete rest and restock up on her supplies.

It was disappointing that the teleportation gate was not located at this village and she would have to go back to the main settlement to get out of here. However, this opportunity will allow her to grab a quick bite to eat and to more importantly restock on some important supplies required for her journey home. She was glad that she had almost escape the volcanic flatlands without any issues. After all, Rebekah had tried to keep the breaks to a minimum. It was safer to traverse that area as fast as possible as each day the lava would move and present a new challenge.

Rebekah had finally returned to the village. She immediately walked to the town plaza and found the building where the Injured Broker was recuperating from his injuries when facing Cerberus out in the Inferno Cavern. It did not take her too long to arrive. The Injured Broker was at the same place as he was sitting earlier this morning. "Welcome Back. That was fast. I take it that you have some good news to report? Did you finally kill the beast?" The Injured Broker began by bombarding her with questions.

Rebekah told him to wait for a few minutes first. She needed sometime since she was exhausted from all the walking. The girl had walked indoors and began to cool off from the hot scorching temperatures from outside. She immediately order an ice tea from the cafe and began to drank her refreshing drink.

It was now that Rebekah began to respond to his question, "Sorry for the wait. I am not used to this weather, so I needed to recover for a few minutes before I speak with you about Cerberus." Rebekah responded.

Now that Rebekah was ready to reply, she began telling the story of her conquest of the beast at the Inferno Cavern. "So, yes, I have traveled to the Inferno Cavern, and slain the beast." Rebekah said. She then showed the broker the proof of defeating the beast which was a vanity item dropped by the dead Cerberus.

The broker then congratulated her, and gave her the reward for finishing the quest. Rebekah than saw the pop up notification on her dashboard showing her that this quest had been completed. Rebekah then said good bye to the Injured Broker, and made her way to the restaurant at Knorilt Village. Rebekah was starving and decided to have lunch here before making her way back to Yogan Village. She was not in the mood for any hot foods, so she opted for something light such as a salad with a cold soft drink.

She knew that consuming cold drinks was not good for her body but it was the only way she could cool off in this weather.

After finishing her meal, it was now time for Rebekah to head back to Yogan Village. The first part of the journey would be the easiest as she was heading back along the same path that she had arrived on this floor to Mount Hellion. She had to climb down the mountain. This was a lot easier than heading uphill. It had taken her a record time to walk down the mountain. Rebekah could still remember that it had taken her a long time and a lot of breaks to climb uphill.

Now that she was at the base of the Mount Hellion, she would have to head north towards the village. It was not a difficult walk as this was done at the lowest elevation on the whole floor. After walking around at higher elevations, Rebekah felt that this area was not as difficult. Perhaps she had acclimatize to higher altitudes on this floor. She had thought she would need to spend more time to get this temporary buff of slightly extra endurance. She had finally walked back into Yogan Village.

At Yogan Village, Rebekah immediately headed back towards the town centre. She made sure Snowball was still with her before making her way back to the fourth floor which was where she had rented out a room. She instantly felt cold, it was snowing on the fourth floor. There was a large contrast of temperatures from where she had visited and where she was now. However, Rebekah instantly put on her jacket with a touch of a button and she had immediately felt warm once again.

Now that she was back on her home floor, she could feel she was exhausted. Rebekah slowly made her way back to her room and fell directly on her bed. She would take a shower tomorrow and sort out her inventory later. This had been a long and exhausting day, and she needed to sleep, relax and recover. Luckily, she did not have any plans for today other than making a new batch of meals in her shop. She could always close her shop for the day as she needed a day off to return to normal after this adventure.
