Background:

This titanic man spent most of his early years getting into fist fights, causing trouble for his folks. The schools he partook in fucking hated his guts, finding himself in detention and the principles offices on the regular. After trying everything they could to put him through a normal education, eventually his parents broke down and shipped his sorry ass off to military school. They'd hoped to straighten him out, with a little tough discipline. It was in a more rigid environment like this where the boy really shined, where the toughest kid called the shots and he made a habit of outshining them all.

Being built like a brick house, out eating everyone in the mess hall and really putting a smile on his drill sergeants face. Eventually his parents wished to reclaim him, figuring they'd finally got a good son out of the mix. But the kid denied and wanted to stay, and the boot camp was more then willing to keep him. Finishing out his training, and becoming a young man he immediately enlisted for good. Rising through the ranks and becoming one hell of an outstanding soldier with a tendency toward borderline court marshal behavior. It wasn't that uncommon to find him being approached about being a bit too hard on new recruits, but they couldn't argue with the results.

Eventually on deployment, one of his good for nothing privates fucked around with a silly little helmet. As a show of superiority the man popped it on his head to 'enjoy' the toy before the private could. He intended to break it after just fucking around, but instead it broke him.

Virtues
Powerful - A brick house of muscle and stature. The guy is a walking bicep, made out of protein and malice. It is totally within the realm of feasibility for him to manhandle a mob by its face given he dwarfs most of them.
Persistent - The guy is military, and even for them he's resolute. Long stints of sprints, running the obstacle courses until he passes out. The dude is a force to be reckoned with, because he does not understand his own limits.
Courageous - Even at a young age, the guy never backed down. Everyone he encountered knew that the fight in him would never wear thin, much to his teachers dismay. There is no amount of superiority that he will not challenge.

Flaws
Bloodthirsty - Dudes got a mean streak, and thats putting it lightly. Once stabbed a kid through the foot with a pencil. Seriously, and he never outgrew it neither. He just invested in bigger pencils.
Dominating - Given the mans size, and how aggressive he can be most don't want to fuck around and find out. Gavin will belittle you, demean you, break your shit. The whole nine yards twice, after he makes you run laps until you faint.
Ruthless - The unending spite and horrors this man inflicts on his own men is a bit appalling. Even the people he is responsible for think he's a total dick. Hang young man by his ankles from nightfall to sunrise causing him to pass out after all the blood flows to his head.
