» About: Vincent Hoen grew up in a loving household. At the age of three his father Leopold Hoen emigrated to Japan to work with one of the world's leading software development companies. Owing to his father's passion, Vincent was raised on every type of game imaginable. At the age of four he came within a millisecond of tying one of the world's best speed runs of Mega Man X. At the age of ten he placed in the top four of the japanese Magic: The Gathering circle and led his guild to the deepest dungeon in the ailing World of Warcraft.

It was no surprise then that both Vincent and his father were among those who took days away from school and work to camp out (with a literal tent no less) to be among the first to purchase Sword Art Online. The two had been itching to try the game, though beta application after application had been denied due to Leopold's position at a competing company. Settled down only a hall away from one another, the two had counted down by way of shouts, 3, 2, 1. Link Start!

And then it had all gone horribly wrong. Kayaba Akihiko, the announcement of the Death Game. Leopold, or rather, «Cyric» could barely believe what he had heard, but he was not about to risk the life of his son on such a chance. He ordered Vincent to remain in the Town of Beginnings, and ventured out into the wilderness, one of the first to leave the city to test out the mechanics of this Death Game.

He never returned.

Nearly five months have passed since Sword Art Online went live. In the intervening time Cayden has gathered a small coterie of like minded individuals to care for and educate the children too young to safely participate, and to care for the many who chose for whatever reason not to participate in the game. As far as things go the last few months have been good to him even as he grieves over his father, but for how long can they really live like this?

» Virtues:

Relentlessly Positive:

While perhaps fragile behind closed doors, the face Cayden presents the the world is endlessly positive. The assault teams will clear the level this week, the PK'ers will be quickly found, everyone he knows will get out alive. Whether he believes these things or not Cayden's unstoppable optimism in the face of the tragedies that he has endured serves as a beacon for those around him to make the most of the moments they have.

Humility:

Cayden is nothing if not humble. Every effort is a team effort, every success in obtaining better food, or lodging for those he cares about in the Town of Beginnings is a success of the group or of others around him. Moreover Cayden is keenly aware of his own limits and is careful never to push beyond them.

Gamer:

Despite the vile nature of the Death Game that is Sword Art Online, SAO is still just that at its heart, a Game. Though he might still be young, Cayden has spent nearly every free moment of his life playing games in some form or another. These years of practice have given him an innate understanding not of any one specific game, but of the very concept of gaming in general. Even when faced with a completely unique game such as Sword Art Online he was quickly able to adapt and work not only to understand but exploit mechanics to his advantage, an advantage that has only grown over months spent studying rather than grinding.

» Flaws:

Grief stricken :

The apparent death of Cayden's father has left an indelible mark on the young man. His failure to be there at the final moments has culminated in both a terrible phobia of losing those closest to him, and a tendency to second guess his own decisions often leading to paralysis or stasis, unable to move forward on any course of action.

Generous to a fault:

Because of the very real consequences of death in SAO, Cayden has found it almost impossible to turn away anyone in need. This frequently results in the loss of resources that would otherwise be beneficial to himself, and could very well end up in his death, as Cayden would give his life to save even the reddest of players if he thought it would help.

Shy:

Owing to his childhood of gaming, Cayden did not have many real friends before SAO. Nearly everyone he counted as a friend was some online aquaintance, a disembodied voice across a chat platform. Sword Art Online did away with such anonymity, and while Cayden has managed to make a small group of friends over time talking to strangers, especially pretty strangers, is incredibly difficult for him.
