[SP-F1] Zak's Training #1 (Storyline) [Complete]

Recommended Posts

Zak dreaded the idea of having to fight some more boars, but knew that he wouldn't be able to easily defeat them without some more practice. Counting up all the ones he had slain from his first and second trip out to the plains, he had only defeated twelve boars. He knew that it would sound pretty pathetic if he was to brag about how strong he was or how well he was doing, thus another trip was in due order. Eventually, he planned to defeat a hundred boars, based off of his goal to kill off a hundred of every respawnable monster in the game. Granted, this sounded like a grinding nightmare, but in a game where your strength determines your life or death, it was worth it. And that's before the added bonus of being able to brag about one's feats came into play so once he had grabbed his belongings, he locked the shop behind him and went on his merry way.

Taking the same route that he had taken during the previous two trips, he would soon find himself at the edge of the plains. He was glad that there were no wolves in sight, considering he wasn't near the tree lines, but there seemed to be plenty of what he was looking for. To the far north was a trio of boars, to the immediate west-northwest was a pair, and to the east was a lone boar with another pair some distance behind. It seemed like it was going to be a pretty productive day, especially if he could take out all eight of these boars in one trip, but with the results of his last trip, that didn't seem likely. He would make his way towards the lone boar, deciding to get warmed up with ease. Dashing forwards, he figured a sudden rush would be just as shocking as a surprise attack.

It was certainly a great thing he decided to warm up on the single target as he was nowhere close to striking the startled boar, whom started bolting away towards the trio far off in the distance for safety. Zak had absolutely NO interest in having to deal with four of the beasts at once so he knew that he would have to kill it before it got there, "Oh, no you don't!" He began pursuit and upon getting close enough, went for a quick strike to wear the monster down.

His chuckling outlasted the boar's grunts of pain as it continued running, although it did change direction. It started running to the west before correcting himself and turning back to the north, in some poorly thought out AI maneuvers. It was interesting to see that they were a little more advanced than he thought, but they were still really stupid beasts. Zak didn't let up for a second and waited until he was close enough to grab the boar's tail, but tried to hop on, stabbing it from above.

The boar reacted surprisingly well, considering it decided to kick it's hind legs into Zak's stomach before he could land on the boar. The blow sent him stumbling back and gave the boar an even bigger gap between the two, but he was getting steadily closer to the trio. Much longer and he would be able to attract the attention of his comrades so he would only have another chance or two. He hoisted himself up and caught up, going for a simple, yet effective downwards slash, "You're dead meat now."

Well, the table's had turned it appeared if anything was close to being dead meat, it was most certainly Zak. The boar narrowly avoided the swipe and squealed out for its comrades to hear, which was the most dreadful possibility that could have happened at the time. The trio, still a ways off, heard the cry for help and began rushing over. If Zak planned to survive, this next attack would have to hit. Otherwise, he'd be stuck fighting a group of four boars at once. That wasn't something he planned to do.

The boar shattered into shards as it released one final squeal, inducing more anger in the trio that was rushing towards him, "Phew, that'll make this a least a little easier." What Zak assumed to be the leader of the pack was running in front, while the other two followed closely behind, "You'll be the first to die, BRING IT ON!" He yelled as he ran towards what could easily be his defeat and clashed head on with the brute, not willing to give up even against such unfavorable odds.

The boar deflected Zak's attack and launched him to the side as they steamrolled past, before turning back around. Their grunting signifying their successful bumrush, they began rearing as they prepared to rush forwards. Zak recomposed himself as he readied his sword, ready for it this time. However, he would be sure to avoid the pack leader's attack this time and go for the one on the far left, hoping that taking out the weaker ones first would be a better strategy.

Zak whipped around the leader and went straight for the boar on the right, which wasn't expecting to be hit. The attack landed and sent the pig crashing backwards as the other two pushed on before looping around, but that gave Zak enough time to finish off the injured boar. Dashing forwards and raising his sword, he was ready to make this unfair fight a little more balanced with a 2v1.

Well, he thought it would be easy, but before the blade could make contact, the boar lunged forward and struck the player in the chest. It was quite a nice counter, definitely making up for the damage he had done earlier to the monster, but Zak still had an upper hand for now, at least. If, and only if, he could reduce the group's numbers, this fight would be easy peasy. Thus, he went for a second attempt at cutting the injured boar in two.

Zak grinned as the first of the slaughter was shattered into shards, knowing that soon, two others would join it. He rushed towards the other weaker boar, ready to strike it down in a single hit, though he knew that it was fairly unlikely to luck out like that. He popped to the left of the boar as it neared and went for a single stab into the side of its body, hoping that it'd dig right into the guts of it.

The attack was successful and whittled the boar's health down to half-way, but now that the leader of the pack knew that the tides of battle were changing, he became even more infuriated. He grunted, obviously commanding the boar to attack, before rushing towards Zak and the nearby member went to charge too. Zak, knowing that a leader wasn't a leader without its minions, went for the last blow to finish off the injured boar.

He didn't know what he did wrong, but man did he screw himself over this time. It seemed the injured boar was going much slower due to its injury, while the leader was running full steam. The leader made it to Zak before Zak's sword could penetrate the weaker boar, causing him to land flat on his ass. Though, that's not where it ended, as the second boar ran over him as well. He knew he was nearing the yellow zone and had to end this fast so as the second boar passed over, he grabbed the tail to stab him right where it hurt most.

It sounded like a good idea in theory, but being dragged on your back by a large boar doesn't really give you a good chance to attack. After tumbling around a bit over the dirt, grass, and rocks; Zak finally let go and hoisted himself up. It would only take one more hit to enter the yellow zone and he wasn't liking these odds, but the leader of the boars didn't seem to care. He only had his eyes set on vengeance so he began running after Zak and, likewise, Zak began running after the smaller boar, using a quick slash for better accuracy.

Unfortunately, the leader caught up to Zak before Zak could catch up to the other boar. He was now in the yellow, "Not good, not good..." He had to calm his nerves as a bit of panic and fright began filling his mind, but he wouldn't act on it until he hit the red, "Not that I will hit the red..." He rushed forwards, trying to finish off the injured boar once and for all, considering his life now depended on it.

He missed the boar, who was still running away from Zak and disobeying his commander's orders, "Damn it all, come here!" The leader of the boar had finally circled back around and was chasing full speed behind, creating a train much like the one earlier. Zak made sure to run as fast as he could so that the leader boar couldn't catch up to him before Zak could strike down the smaller one, "JUST DIE ALREADY!"

Before he knew it, he could feel the overwhelming weight of the leader boar's force in his back. It sent him stumbling forwards and on the ground, rolling a few times before he could lift himself back on his feet, "Rgghh..." He was absolutely livid at himself, these deceivingly powerful monsters, and these cursed mechanics that he had yet to be able to conquer. He would give it another go, certainly, but he was far more careful this time around.

Of course, that didn't work either and the boar ended up tackling him again. Now things were getting deadly serious, regardless of how serious it might have been before. If he took another hit, he'd be in the red and he wasn't going to stand around and die. He'd certainly have to make a run for it, even if he failed his mission. Turning back towards the injured boar, he went in for one last hit, "This is it."

The leader boar reared up in victorious cheer after landing another tackle, knowing that this pathetic excuse of a player couldn't stand up to him and waited for Zak to attack. The boar was no longer defending itself or its territory, it was simply having a laugh at this low leveled scum. Unfortunately for the boar, Zak decided to make his retreat, and it simply grunted at the player's sadly low confidence in battle. However, the weaker boar, not wanting to be looked down upon by its leader, chased after Zak. After some distance, the boar had closed the gap and gotten very close, but now that the leader was a threat no longer, he spun and slashed at the gruesome brute horizontally.

The boar, through some miracle of what Zak considered to be broken AI, deflected the sword off his tusk just like the leader did not too long ago. It tackled Zak, reducing his health to an unsavory low point and he was absolutely pissed off at this point. He faced the boar and went directly for a stab to the face, hoping that if anything, this boar would have a painful final moment, "DAMN YOU AND YOUR KIND!"
