[SP-F1] <<Worn out Welcome>> Quest (Complete)

Recommended Posts

After first entering the game Scyom realized that his starting equipment wasn't enough to withstand the kinds of monsters he would start facing once leaving the starter town, and after hearing a rumor of a legendary blacksmith NPC on the 3rd floor who gave away armor for mats, he decided to go take a look. After finally reaching the 3rd floor he took the safest path he could to the old blacksmith shop, as it could be problematic for him to run into any 3rd floor mobs at his current level. After reaching the shop the first thing he noticed was how quaint the cabin looked, it most certainly didn't look like the kind of place a legendary blacksmith would own. Now starting to doubt the accuracy of the rumor he went up to the door and gave it a hard knock, "Hello, is anyone in there?". The door was thrown open to reveal a hulking old blacksmith fitting the description of Griswold. Griswold yelled, "What do you want!". Stunned by the abrupt appearance of the blacksmith, Scyom went on to explain his situation and what he had heard. Griswold told him the requirements of the quest and a pop up appeared asking if Scyom would accept. He quickly pressed accept and was on his way back to the First Floor where the quest took place.

Now night in the world of sao Scyom continued on his journey towards the small cave indicated by his quest log. Scyom stared up at the nights sky in awe, "How can this horrible death game...be so beautiful..." he then continued to walk in almost complete silence towards the other side of floor 1. He felt the thick wild grass crunch under his shoes, and listened to the wind blow past causing the leaves of a near by tree rustle ever so slightly. After he had been walking along for what seemed like only a few minutes had actually been almost an hour and he could now see the cave in the distance.

Now closing the final gap between him and the cave he began to see small figures appear at the front of the cave, "Skeletons..." Scyom murmured while walking towards the cave. He readied his two handed sword and as he brought it forward the iron blade gleamed in the moonlight. Now within range of the skeleton he noticed that it was quite small in stature and held only a rusty iron dagger. He readied his sword and jumped, bringing the sword above his head before attempting to bring it down on the skeleton. He missed only hitting the soft dirt ground next to the skeleton. This left him wide open for an attack.

The Skeleton Lunged for an attack but missed only by inches when Scyom Leaped back to his original position. "That was way to close" Scyom said while out of breath from the previous maneuver. He reestablished himself in his combat position with new found will to fight. "I have to finish this quest. No running away!" he said with intensity as he prepared for his next move.

Now beginning to understand the skeletons movement pattern Scyom moved his sword to his side. He side stepped to the right of the skeleton and brought his sword back for an attack to try and hit the skeleton before it could react. He Swung the great blade with all his will and strength and made contact with the skeleton. The great iron blade bulldozed straight through the skeletal scout, crushing the ribs and spine of the enemy into shards. It then landed in a lifeless pile of bones, at the same time a window opened in front of Scyom's eyes indicating that he had leveled up. Sadly no iron chunks were rewarded.

Before entering the skeleton infested caves Scyom decided to give himself a break seeing as how he got so worked up over a simple skeletal scout. So he flopped himself down on the nearest chair like rock he could find and took a look at his surroundings. The area away from the caves was a grassy savanna with very few trees and dotted with small floating islands. It has a great amount of detail and beauty to it and seeing as how Scyom was at the very edge of the floor, he could almost see clear to the other side of the floor due to the limited terrain. After inspecting the fields he changed his view to the caves , the entrance of which had a beat up wooden awning and was carved into the side of a large stone hill. Leading out of the cave were rails that looked like they could hold a small mine cart. The area surrounding was mostly dirt ground with bits of grass here and there but other then that had very little distinctive features.

After Scyom's nerves had calmed he got up from his rock and headed for the cave entrance. Once inside it became very difficult to see so he grabbed a torch off the nearest wall and toggled it on. After reaching a few feet into the cave the air stated to become very damp and cold and continued to increase in this way the deeper he got. The cave had no sound within it other then Scyom's own faint footsteps and the crackling of the torch fire. The walls of the cave were supported by thick warn wooden beams which if he hadn't know better would seem to be a few hundred years old. This continued on until Scyom reached a fork in the cave tunnels and with no signs to indicate which way lead where he decided to go down the one on the left.

He walked down this tunnel for a few hundred feet when he encountered two skeletons. They both had the same amount of health but while one of them had a one-handed curved sword the other had a two-handed straight sword much like Scyoms. He readied his sword and prepared for yet another battle.

Seeing as how Scyom initiated combat he had the first strike. He got a running start holding his sword horizontally to his left side. As he ran the blade scrapped and sparked along the wall of the cave before reaching the skeleton on the left. He Swung the blade upwards, chopping the skeleton in half before it came crashing to the ground. This attack put him in a rather precarious position as it left his back open to attack from the other skeleton.

The Skeletal Knight reacted to Scyom's bad positioning and attacked as quickly as it could. Because of this quick reaction time the skeleton landed a successful hit on Scyom's back, leaving a gaping red slash mark and pushing him up against the wall. Cringing from the blow Scyom let out a small noise as he regained his balance.

Unhappy with the results of his last move and angered by the skeletons attack Scyom quickly reacted by running up the shallow cave wall in front of him and flipping above the skeleton. This gave him a clear shot at the enemies head which he did not hesitate to act on. Scyom Pushing himself upright and lunged his sword down between his legs. The skeleton reacted but a moment to late as the blade came crashing down, slicing the skeleton's arm, leaving a red gash similar to the one of Scyom's back. "How do you like them apples!" Scyom yelled in a fit of anger and excitement from landing a solid hit.

While Scyom's position was particularly open to attack his sword was stuck in the dirt floor of the cave and couldn't be used to block any incoming attacks for a few seconds. The Skeleton recklessly attacked Scyom in his moment of weakness and missed completely do to its wounds. "HA!" Scyom laughed, "Stupid AI this is going to be your end!"

Quickly and without hesitation Scyom Swung his sword towards the enemy and hit the wall to his right. "The cave walls are to small! i cant fight here" Scyom said under his breath. After missing such a vital attack Scyom decided to lead the skeleton back to the bigger area prior to the fork in the cave. The skeleton eagerly followed Scyom out to this area which was only a few hundred feet away. This area would be much easier for Scyom to fight in but the same goes for the skeleton following him.

Now in the open area, Scyom had to catch his breath leaving him open for another one of the skeletons attacks. Luckily the skeleton completely missed Scyom after he made a last second dodge to the right. The skeleton was now hunched over and open to attack do to the delay effect after each one of its attacks.

"I wont miss this time!" Scyom yelled while reading his iron sword. He jumped towards the right wall and ran along it to the skeletons position. He then leaped from the wall and with the added moment of his jump and the swinging of his sword he cut the skeleton clean down the middle with a downward slash. After it was over Scyom received a Level up message and his health was increased for the second time during this quest.

Scyom lowered his sword to his side and took a slow deep breath "I can do this, I can do this...". Now back at the crossroad he decided he should head down the other tunnel and check it out. He began to walk once again and his thoughts drifted to the real world. He thought of his sister and brother and how much he missed them. A single tear rolled down his cheek "Why...why would someone create this kind of game" realizing its pointless to dwell he snapped out of it and wiped his eyes. After walking for what seemed like forever he finally arrived at a small open room and saw yet another skeleton near the end of the room. Without thinking Scyom Pulled out his sword and charged it, but because of the large distance between him and the skeleton it had time to dodge and Scyom ended up slashing the wall.

The skeleton attacked with a quick stabbing attack. Scyom quickly pulled his sword from the wall and deflected the attack into the wall next to him. He leaped to the left as quick as he could to avoid any attacks that could follow. with his sword at the ready he glared directly at the skeleton.

Scyom ran towards the skeleton and brought his sword straight up through its chest. He then turned the sword back around and slashed it across the shoulder down to its pelvis. "Trash" he said before kicking the pile of bones forward and collecting the iron chunks it dropped. "Now i just need to turn in the quest and reap my reward." he turned to the next section of the cave. He began walking back to the exit when he noticed the smell seemed to change, he had a strange feeling that something bad was going to happen.

He walked down the tunnel and thought about what the higher floors of the game would be like. He suspected the mobs would steadily increase in strength, but he also thought about how this games mechanics were so unusually. "i hope there aren't to many surprises along the way to the 100th floor...". He opened the menu and tried to see if any other players were around but the closest one he could see was way outside of the cave probably killing boars, "If anything happens to me in here will anyone even notice?" sadly his thought was cut short by an incredibly loud grumbling noise. "What the hell?!" the ground below him collapsed and he fell into what looked like a throne room. In front of him were two weak skeletons and behind them a significantly larger skeleton with warn rusty armor and a crown. Scyom quickly pulled out his sword, and the large skeleton yelled out some words in some lost language and the two smaller skeletons charged towards Scyom. "This is bad!" Scyom lunged towards the closest of the two and missed.

The closest skeleton Scyom attacked first reacted with a quick jab of its rusty iron sword. Scyom fell backwards in order to dodge it and landed on the floor. He readied himself the best he could for the next attack. "I have to conserve my health enough to fight that bigger one!"
