[SP-F2] A Journey Under The Mountain [complete]

Upon further inspection, there seemed to be several possible alcoves in the walls of the geode-room with interacable crystal structures. The room itself was likely meant to be a hub - including the two crystals he had already destroyed, Gestein counted 6 possible pathways blocked by large crystal lodes similar to the ones that already impeded his path. Choosing one on the basis of it being in the direction he wanted to go, the big man equipped his hammer and struck the impeding crystal fixture.

It did not reveal a path, and though the lode exploded into pixels, a recording crystal was not gained. Instead, Gestein peered into a small stone room, barely lit with small patches of moss. He kept his hammer at the ready - in the corner of the room, a shadow lay dormant, just out of reach of the light.

After a few moments of tense silence, the shadow did not move an inch. Curious at what it could possibly be, Gestein took a handful of glowing moss and peaked his head into the room. His eyes lit up as the edges of the shadow were barely illuminated with the soft glow of the moss in his hand, and he was able to see that the figure that had beguiled him just a moment ago was actually a chest. He entered the room, ducking under the stone arch, and though he had to stoop due to the low ceiling, he stood before the chest and carefully examined it. A small trip-wire was found behind the chest, set to spring some unseen trap if anyone was foolish enough to hastily throw open the top of the unlocked chest. Instead, Gestein lifted the top open, careful to hold it in place as he peered inside.

The big man could not believe his luck. Inside the chest, there was what appeared to be a black bearskin shawl meant to be draped upon one shoulder and buckled into place with several belts, with the menacing figure of the bear's head draped over the wearer's heart. While he would have to get the item inspected, the discovery suited the warrior's need for a suitably functional accessory, and to be quite frank, a bearskin shawl would look great over the armor he had in mind.

He removed the bearskin shawl with care and placed into his inventory before gently closing the lid of the chest. Upon returning to the geode room, he plowed his hammer into another crystal fixture and revealed a new tunnel to be explored.

"This... looks familiar."

After a few twist and turns, Gestein had emerged into a large crystal catacomb that he could have sworn he had visited hours ago. Sure enough, after a quick check of his map, the big man verified that he was currently standing in what he had deemed the true 'entry' of the caves - the large crystal catacomb that he had run into Hikaru.

Despite having been left behind, hours of working and wandering had cleared his head to the point that while he worried for her safety, he did not begrudge her choice to leave. It did no good to wallow in self pity over his mistakes. Instead, the warrior would simply abide. He cast off the disappointment of losing potential companionship and instead dwelt in the successes that he achieved on this day.

With his inventory no longer abysmally empty, the big man took a resolute step forward towards the familiar tunnel that lead back to the surface. He would sleep well tonight.
