History

Hinata Yamazaki was the first and only child born to the younger Japanese couple, Akito and Akane Yamazaki (father and mother respectively), two middle-class Japanese citizens. Her two parents raised her in the enormous city of Tokyo, where she would attend grade and middle school. As a student, Hinata proved herself capable of outperforming about three-fourths of her grade, but she was never the smartest. Most of her achievement came solely from the amount of effort she put into it; enough to allow her to consistently place on the honor roll, as well as maintain a healthy social life on the side. For the first thirteen years of her life, there weren’t really any noteworthy events. She did, however, attend a martial arts academy during these years.

At fourteen-years-old, Hinata was about to enter her third and final year in junior high school before she found herself in a nearly fatal car accident. When she woke up in the hospital, her world was forever changed as she found herself engulfed in a permanent darkness. During the accident, a few broken shards of glass had pierced through her eyes. Had they gone any further, she might have died. Instead, she found herself with both of her eyes replaced by two, light-lavender-pupiled glass orbs fitted within her skull. Her life as she knew it was over, a fact that haunted her for weeks upon weeks once she came to that realization: the realization that nobody would treat her as if she was a normal person. Everyone would act as if she was no longer human, but some foreign creature. She was partially right.

Due to her handicap, she was no longer able to attend public school. Rather than start homeschooling immediately, she simply found herself attempting to adapt to her world of black. For quite a bit of time, Hinata was emotionally crushed by her disability. Regardless of her feelings, she strove to overcome this barrier. About seven months of training later, and Hinata found herself able to read braille and proficient in moving around her surroundings with nothing but a cane. The teenage girl had successfully recovered her most of her life in a situation she thought impossible.

Because of the time she spent recuperating, when Hinata entered public school again, she was placed in the grade she was about to enter. Her teacher’s thankfully compensated for her lack of eyesight, providing her with materials she needed to continue her education. While her academic success never managed to surpass what it once had been, considering her lack of vision, she excelled in her own way. Contrary to her initial beliefs, people even accepted her as a mostly normal girl. There were of course people frightened by her, but she simply ignored them and allowed them to wallow in idiotic fear.

Sometime after turning sixteen, Hinata heard rumors of a device called the NerveGear, a piece of technology that stimulated the brain in accordance to sensory data within the games it played, all while blocking out all outside transmissions. Curious, the girl wondered if it would perhaps allow her to see again, and eventually managed to persuade her parents to purchase it for her. This theory would turn out to be correct, and she was able to play games on the console with full vision. Her eyes might have been destroyed in the real world, but her brain was still capable of deciphering the sensory data, allowing her vision to return, even if it was fake.

There were few games release for the NerveGear that truly reached Hinata’s hopes for the virtual world. Being able to see at all was a blessing in her mind, but she wanted to feel like she was fully alive again, not just playing a game. Almost as if some supernatural force had read her mind, she heard the announcement for Sword Art Online: a fully developed, massively-multiplayer world; it was everything she had craved. As such, her parents purchased the game for her, aided in hooking her up to the system, and sent her on her way. â€Link start!†She said with all her heart, and found herself immersed in a world of beautiful color. No, not just immersed. She was trapped in a world of her dreams.

Virtues

Curious: To Mitsuki, the unknown is an enticing part of life, one she'll do whatever she can to quench. Mystery attracts her. She'll find herself drawn to people enshrouded in secrets, even if its simply to solve them. While she does her best to put other's above herself, this is the one case in which she struggles with that. Her search for understanding overrules her compassion, a fact that she has attempted to change, but simply can't.

Compassionate: Ever since she was a little girl, Mitsuki has cared greatly for the physical and emotional welfare of others. Sometimes she cares more for others than herself, as seen during her rehabilitation, where she felt as if she was a burden on her family, despite their constant reassurance that she wasn't. Still yet, she did everything she could to minimize the amount of pain she caused them. The same applies to her attitude in the virtual world. Mitsuki tends to place the needs of others over her own, and will most often go out of her own way to help the weary.

Diligent: Having been blinded by an accident, it took an incredible amount of perseverance and effort to readjust to life afterwards. Throughout the entire process, however, Mitsuki proved capable of rehabilitation. Although it took almost a year for her to feel comfortable living in a never-ending darkness, she eventually did. This same diligence followed her as she entered the world of Sword Art Online. To Mitsuki, overcoming blindness was the most challenging part of her life; she’ll be damned before she succumbs to a video game, even if death is the ultimate consequence. Regardless of whatever may happen, she will always do her best to pull through.

Flaws

Soft-Hearted: There is a drawback to being as compassionate as Mitsuki: she's too quick to trust others. She may doubt the validity of some situations, but that won't stop her from continuing on until she uncovers the truth. This leaves her vulnerable to traps and other player-vs-player offenses. However, if she uncovers the actuality of a lie, she won't forget, and she'll push herself to grow stronger until she knows she can punish the wrong-doer.

Timid: Although she doesn't completely fit the definition of timid, when it comes to social encounters, Mitsuki is rather shy at first, stemming from her belief that she wouldn't be considered normal due to her condition. Despite having vision, the fear of being rejected by society brings her anxiety. Part of the reason Mitsuki is willing to help anyone in need is because she feels it'll aid in her desire to be viewed as normal, and allow her to gain the respect of her peers. She'll do a lot to prove she's as strong as everyone else.

Temperamental: Emotionally, it wouldn't be hard to consider Mitsuki unstable. Driven by the imaginary desire for acceptance, she is subject to breakdowns when she lacks the strength necessary to overcome an obstacle. Because she's diligent, she will continue her training, her emotions as a fuel, but during this period of time, she'll unconsciously push others away. Along with that, because she places so much trust in people, when she feels she's been betrayed, she's similar to a ticking time bomb. She'll be ready to explode, if she hasn't already, and in these outbursts, she can be brutal enough to kill. That is unless she's calmed down.
