"When we actually go to face the quest boss, you just need to stay back." Wulfrin and Riardon were standing over a simply drawn map of the desert basin, a location Wulfrin could map out by memory at this point. It was about time that Wulfrin's aquaintance got his boots dirty and started climbing some levels. It was the perfect time to do so as the system had just opened up a temporary boon to all players. Lower level players were being allotted a similar amount of skill points to him alongside everyone getting access to a new list of beta skills. Cardinal was being generous in recent days, and with the looming threat on floor 29, Wulfrin was beginning to worry, but that wasn't going to stop him from finding an exploit. Riardon slowly paced around the table, taking mental notes of Wulfrin's tactics. From what he could tell, his goal was simply to observe. The package that Wulfrin had suggested consisted of one skill taken nine times over, allowing him to act as some sort of energy battery for the DPS player. It wasn't too far off of the playstyle Riardon was expecting to play, although it did kind of hurt to not be able to do more. Regardless, Riardon grabbed a piece of the provided spread of meats and cheeses, and once Wulfrin had finished his disertation, Riardon started towards the door. "Suppose I'll go get our clearance sorted," Riardon said as he adjusted his collar. "As I recall you aren't exactly on the best of terms with the quest giver." Once Riardon regrouped with him, Wulfrin led him to the dusty arena. Wulfrin began to do a few stretches to limber up before jumping into the arena. "Remember," Wulfrin spoke between strained stretches. "You just have to stay close enough that my energy regenerates. So long as you don't strike the thing, you should be completely safe. Even unbuffed I can take this thing down, so just sit back and watch the exp pour in. Once you hit level 11 you can start actually doing some things, but for now just keep me topped off." With a salute, Wulfrin lept into the sandy arena, his Blade of Zariel glimmering from the sun striking the celestial steel. When the shark emerged, Wulfrin leapt into the air to meet it. Several heavy hits left the massive sand shark immobilized. Riardon stood arms cross observing the swordsman move. The kid had some moves and Riardon struggled to keep up visually. Was this the same level expected from the frontlines? He wasn't sure, but if it was he knew for a fact that he couldn't likely move in the same way. As Terra Firma shifted its weight back onto its legs, Riardon crept slightly closer to the edge. A burst of greenish blue energy burst out from his body as Riardon watched Wulfrin's energy skyrocket back to full. "Looks like your plan is working!" Riardon called out. "Bring him down!" Riardon continued to watch the ongoing match, his eyes fixated on Wulfrin. At the very least if he witnessed the swordsman falter, Riardon could get some warning to run. * * * Recovery? Wulfrin reached into his pocket and retrieved a large iron bear trap. As Terra Firma leapt into the air to chomp down on him, Wulfrin rolled clear causing the beheamoth to crash directly into the skillfully placed trap. With his target successfully trapped, Wulfrin turned his blade back towards the giant sand shark. Wulfrin's holy blade ignited into a torrential flame. Wulfrin danced around Terra Firma in much the same vein as Solaris was, the two in proper sync for the first time. Each cut seared against the boss's flesh eventually wrapping the beast in a torrential inferno. His combo completed, Wulfrin slid clear and took a defensive stance to prepare for Terra Firma's attack. "Bring it on," Wulfrin spoke to himself as he planted his feet and grit his teeth. What was Wulfrin thinking during all of this? Terra Firma didn't seem to be phased in the slightest, if anything the flames only made it angrier. The sand shark's heavy jaws dug into its own flesh as it shattered the solid iron trap its front leg was trapped in before turning its sights on Wulfrin. It lumbered forward, gaining speed with each bound. Once it was a few feet from Wulfrin, it dove beneath the sands only to emerge behind Wulfrin, jaws eager to claim their lunch. Wulfrin appeared unphased as he simply pivoted on his back foot and dodged out of the way and around his target, expertly preparing for a retaliatory strike. "Nice dodge," Riardon commented as a second burst of energy restoring light pulsed from him. "Kid's got reflexes to compliment his strikes." * * * Recovery? As his massive foe started to bare down on him from behind, Wulfrin cleverly placed yet another bear trap, this time grasping the opposite leg. Terra Firma roared in anger, but Wulfrin was already in motion. This time Wulfrin's blade shined an emerald green as his strikes became heavier as each impact caused deeper and deeper cracks to appear on Terra Firma's still smoldering heavily armored carapace. The debuff appeared signifying that Terra Firma's damage mitigation had lessened. Despite his best efforts, Wulfrin wasn't managing to get a clear shot on any of Terra Firma's weak points, nor was he able to set up a proper combo. He was having to move too much. If it weren't for Riardon essentially serving as his battery, Wulfrin was certain this fight would be going a lot differently. "Next strike should end it," Wulfrin shifted. Riardon's eyes focused on Terra Firma's other front leg where a second bear trap had dug into its flesh. An impressed smirk crept across Riardon's face. Apparently this boss wasn't as smart as it was fast. After letting loose a roar that shook the small basin, Terra Frima slamed its trapped foot down into the sand causing the trap to fall loose. Now freed from its bindings Terra Firma leapt into the air threatening to drag Wulfrin beneath the shifting sands. Once more Wulfrin narrowly dodged the beast's feeble attempt at a last stand by carefully moving towards its left flank and preparing for an all out attack. "This battle is already over Terra Firma," Riardon commented as he felt another burst of energy leave his body. "Now I understand why Wulfrin calls it his Sharkbait Training Program." * * * Recovery? At least the match had been relatively leveled. Thanks to the nicks in Terra Firma's armor, Solaris, and the now extinguished flames, Wulfrin guesstimated Terra Firma was libel to fall in one more blow even despite not having access to his most powerful sword art. With another volley of heavy strikes, Wulfrin slammed his blade into the side of Terra Firma. The hardened scales shattered with each blow Wulfrin landed until the sand shark itself burst into fractal motes. "And that's that," Wulfrin said as he started out of the basin. "Best you get your stats in order. Our next stop is Floor 5. This time we wont be missing the extra skill. There will be a third joining us this time around, another new member of the guild. Oh by the way, welcome to the Tracker's Alliance. Sorry I wasn't there to greet you. I was working on some gear to get you started. Best we pick that up too before moving on." * * * Recovery?
