[PT-PP-F09] The Bandit Problem

Content knowing that his party was going to get him out of the sticky situation he was in, Riardon continued to observe the battle raging in front of him. Wulfrin's small dust devil conjured within the arid environment caused Riardon to instinctually shield his eyes to the best of his ability. When he opened them again, he was surprised to find a bear trap clasped to the boss's left leg. It was screaming in agony as Solaris pulled off from its attack. Wulfrin's blade burned with a fire comprable to the fires around them. Could that art have originated from this floor? It was possible, but until he could research it, or better yet ask Wulfrin directly, there was no way to know for certain. Not that Riardon intended to inquire about it anyway. He was more focused on supporting his allies in combat rather than dishing out damage himself. Riardon had seen Wulfrin used the art against Terra Firma not long ago, so at least the swordsman's attack pattern was predictable. The bandit boss on the other hand was a different story.

With the ongoing battle KnightinGale carefully made her way to Riardon. The old man had gone and got himself captured, and yet she was relegated to the rescue effort. While she knew it was the smartest play, she still wished to be in the action. She hated being on the sidelines. Hell she wanted to build her skills in such a way to be the one taking all the hits. It was a lifestyle for her, especially considering all the protecting she had to do back in the real world. With the sharp edge of her shield, she slashed open the ropes binding Riardon to his post. Carefully she helped him to his feet, letting him use her as a leaning post as they carefully maneuvered out of immediate danger.

"We should be safe here," Eve reassured Riardon as she set him down against one of the makeshift huts. "We're going to watch for a minute, but if things get messy, be ready because I'm going to move fast." Riardon simply nodded acknowledging the order.

"Good," Wulfrin said under his breath as Riardon and KnightinGale finally made it to safety. "Now I can unload with no issues."

Wulfrin drew the Bandit Boss's attention in the opposite direction of his party members. Right into another bear trap. This time the bandit's right leg was clamped and trapped further immobilizing the boss just in time for Wulfrin's attack to go off. Wulfrin rushed in, his blade shining with a holy light. Nova Ascension had returned to his arsenal since he had started wielding the Blade of Zariel. It replaced the Ice Devil: Rage sword art from Icingdeath. Wulfrin was beginning to wonder what other secrets that blade was hiding. Wulfrin refocused on the moment as his blade continued to carve into the boss's form leaving roughly one final strike in the health bar. Wulfrin took a retaliatory dagger thrust, but the damage was minimal.

"That all you got?" Wulfrin taunted. "If so. Then this battle has already been won by me."

"At least we have decent seats," Riardon joked as he and KnightinGale watched the battle rage on. "It would be a shame to miss such a duel. I've only seen him go all out like this against Terra Firma."

"You went through that quest too?" KnightinGale responded tilting her head a bit. "Did you get forced to be a cheerleader as well?"

"No my role was basically the same as this one. I was the energy battery as Wulfrin put it."

"Can't argue with the results though. The quest sure helps get us up the levels faster."

"Agreed. Wulfrin says there are more he plans to escort us through. They are similar in scope and will help boost our levels even more."

Riardon watched the fight continue to unfold as Wulfrin unleashed a flurry of attacks at an almost imperceptible speed. The boss's health bar plummeted rapidly as the last of the fire continued to nip at the now red bar.

"I bet he plans to take at least you through something called FTK," KnightinGale replied as she shifted her weigh onto her back foot, lowering her guard slightly. "Pretty sure that was the last thing he took me on. Boss spit out tons of exp and I just sat and watched. It's where I met Firefly and served as my introduction to the trackers."

"Why did you go to the trackers anyway?" Riardon questioned as he struggled to his feet. "I'm not sure why, but you don't seem like the rumor chasing type."

"Mainly just for self improvement. I barely understand video games, let alone this whole mess. It was always more my sister's thing, and the one time I try to connect on a similar level as her..."

"You don't have to go into detail. This game has taken its toll on all of us. We just have to work together in order to escape."

"Yeah. Guess you're right."

The two watch the fight continue. The Bandit Boss seemed to be on its last legs and whether it was an act of desperation or a last ditch hailmary, the Boss hurdled towards Wulfrin, dagger held high. Wulfrin effortlessly dodged and was in prime position to finish the job.

"Checkmate," Wulfrin mumbled under his breath as the dagger rushed toward his face.

Wulfrin artfully dodged the blade and turned into a whirling column of fire. His blade wreathed in the blazing fires of Avernus carved into the Bandit Boss and as a result, the last of the boss's HP vanished before him. The body shattered soon after, turning into a snow like flurry of data shards that slowly faded into nothing. Wulfrin's blade was returned to its sheath as Wulfrin turned to address is party members in waiting.

"That wraps that up," Wulfrin said as he dusted off his hands. "Let's grab what we can and head back. It's best not to linger as the mobs will respawn. That or the Phoenix will get called to all the noise we caused and attempt to ravage this place. Either way I'd rather not linger for longer than we have to."
