[SP-F6] Material Hunting (Completed!)

Recommended Posts

Angel sighed as he wandered around the sixth floor. He wasn't there to kill anything, not there to discover new treasures, nothing cool. He was just there to gather materials. He had been lacking in crafting materials for a long time now and he figured he should get back into the crafting game. Plus he needed some for an item he had requested to be made. It was just business.

He strolled up to a well known mine and began to make his way down. As he walked, he opened his inventory and selected a pickax. He swung it in his hand as he walked up to an iron vein in the wall. He sighed and started swinging at it. "I hate this kind of grunt work." He said as he swung. After a few good swings, something happened...

[Dice Roll: 10 FAIL]

A piece of iron broke off the vein, but the piece was too small for use and the moment it hit the ground it shattered into pixels. He frowned and walked down the tunnel to the next vein.

After a few more steps, he came across a long streak of blue metal lining the wall. He cocked his head to the side with interest as he observed the strange blue metal. He touched it and found that it was strangely chilled. "A blue metal that's cool to the touch? Should prove useful if I can get some." He said to himself as he brought the pickax back up and swung it at the wall. The ax made a nice PING as it hit the metal in an attempt to break off a big enough piece.....

[Dice]

..... But as Angel brought the pickax back and struck the metal again, it shattered against the rough ax strike. Angel starred at the place where the brittle metal once rested. Then he sighed again. "I hate this grunt work. So disappointing." He said as he picked up his ax and continued down the long tunnel.

He continued down the tunnel until he came across another iron vein. He sighed and brought the pickax back up over his head and he swung down, the tip of the weapon clinging against the natural iron. He really needed these materials so he hoped for a winner this time....

[Dice]

.... Luck was with him as he broke off a piece of iron, this one big enough to use. He quickly scooped it up and placed it in his inventory. Then he turned to the vein and went back to work, hacking at it with his pick.

He struck the wall a few more times, the tip of the ax causing a PING sound each time. It was an annoying sound, but it had to be done to get anywhere. He sighed as he brought the ax up once more and swung it at the Iron vein. Then, something happened...

[Dice]

..... He smiled as the ax took another part of the vein. Another piece of iron broke off and hit the ground. He smiled and scooped it up, adding it to his inventory. He smiled and then looked at the vein. He lost his smile when he saw that the vein had been depleted. He sighed and turned, continuing down the tunnel to the next vein.

As he continued down the tunnel, he realized that the temperature was starting to increase from the depth. He could hear some kind of liquid moving in the walls, almost like underground water pipes, or maybe magma. Either way, he wasn't eager to break the wall unless he needed the ore inside. He felt the ground start to get rough and the air began to get a little stale. He was starting to get close to a large pocket of air. After a few more feet, he entered a massive magma chamber. Various pools of lava flowed through the room while various gems and rocks rested around the room. It was a virtual gold mine for material gathering. Angel smiled as he started to explore the various precious stones and rock formations.

He walked around the massive cavern until he came across a massive pile of <>, a strong, tough stone that would make a fantastic set of armor or a shield. Angel grinned as he began to swing and strike the pile with his pickax. It took a few more swing than the iron vein, but after a few decent hits, he had a result...

[Dice]

...The stone was a lot tougher than he thought as his pick cracked only a tiny piece of rock, not enough to be used or even collected. The small bit of stone exploded into pixels as Angel frowned. "Fine, be like that." He said as he started swinging again.

The Pickax was beginning to get heavy in his hands from all the rough strikes. The Obsidian was doing a number on his arms as he continued to swing, determined to get at least one piece of Obsidian before leaving for something else. With one strong swing, he got another answer...

[Dice]

..... There it was, an actual, usable piece of Obsidian. Angel was about to reach out and grab it, but it came loose from the main rock and tumbled down, rolling into a bed of lava. Angel watched as the material disappeared forever. He almost teared up. "Well, that's not fair at all." He said, as if someone else had witnessed the traumatizing event.

Angel quickly got back to work, determined to get that Obsidian piece. He hacked away at the base, fueled by the insult of the Obsidian-Lava incident. After a few strong, good swings, he finally made some form of progress...

[Dice]

Unfortunately, it was a step backwards. Another small piece of the incredibly tough rock broke off and hit the ground. But like the other small pieces, it destroyed itself as it disappeared into a thousand little pixels. Angel growled in frustration as he got back to work.

His frustration was growing as he began to strike harder and faster. The tough stone continued to make a rough and loud Klang noise every time he made contact. He wasn't prepared to leave until he had a piece of Obsidian to take back with him. With another loud Klang, he had a result......

[Dice]

.... He breathed a sigh of relief as he picked up the solid, good sized piece of Obsidian and added it to his inventory. He smiled as he nodded at the pile and began to move on to the rest of the cave and it's geological treasures.

Angel looked around at all the shiny gems and magnificent different types of stone and metal engraved into the wall. He looked around, wondering what he should try to collect next. At this point, he had collected two Iron Ingots and an Obsidian Ore. But he wanted more. He needed more materials for crafting. After searching for a little bit more, he found a long strip of various metal veins. A smile slowly started to crawl onto his face as he raised his pickax and swung it at the wall....

[Dice]

.... The wall of metals was too tough as his swings seemed to cause no progress whatsoever. It continued to make a PING noise as he struck, but nothing happened. He lost his smile as he realized that his work was far from over.

Angel started to hack away at the valuable wall. The funny part was that he didn't know what would break off if he did get something. His curiosity was starting to get the better of him as he continued to swing. After striking it a good three times, the wall responded....

[Dice]

..... The wall seemed to get tougher and tougher as he struck it over and over. It was too stubborn to give up any of it's treasures and Angel was convinced that he could tame the trove of material goodies.

Angel frowned and came to a decision; this was his last strike. If he didn't get anything on this series of swings then he'd be done collecting Mats for today. He only had three but three was enough for him. He cracked his neck a little and then gripped his pickax tightly. "Come on, give me something good." He silently prayed as he raised the pickax and swung down hard....

[Dice]

.....The pickax bounced off of the wall and produced nothing. Angel frowned and closed his eyes. "Fine. Be like that." He said to the wall as he put his pickax away and started to exit the cave. He was done for now, but he'd be back the next day.

(Total Mats collected: 3
