Coins tinked against the cold cave floor. The dragon's eyes flicked open. Great slits watched shadows dance. Something had entered her home uninvited. It happened from time to time, and it could have been a variety of different creatures. A bear looking for a home, or perhaps a lost wolf. She knew well enough that boars lived in the fields below her hillside cave, for she hunted them regularly.

A cough echoed through the dark. It was not the sort of sound you would expect from a boar, or any other wild animal for that matter. Fed up with guessing, she made herself known.

"Who comes to my home unannounced?"

The rattling of metal coins ceased. The intruder cleared his throat, daring not to let the dragon ask twice.

"Apologies, great dragon. I didn't see you in the dark. I don't wish to intrude. I'll be going now."

The dragon's head snapped in the direction of his voice. "A human?" she hissed.
