[F9-PP-PT] Flames beyond hot (Guardian of Fire)

Recommended Posts

The horrid screeching of fomorian mouths that had since been forced into cookie cutter molds that made them far more irritating. Shrieking as they flailed angrily into the town that the woman was collecting just outside of. The small handful of powdered ash blows out of her hand as the imbecile rushes past, wasting the better part of the last 5 minutes scooping up the shit with a flour like consistency in a grey flakes. "Mother fucker." She exhumes in a murmur, catching the ass end of them bickering and yelling. Clearly this was a dedicated and recurring event, and without slapping the shit out of whatever was causing them to be such a bother would allot her no peace and quiet.

"Fine." The girl barks into the town at the slightly charred sack of useless. "I'll handle it, you pathetic...." A flash of white light as she starts to beat feet into the mouth of fire transitioning to become a foot taller and matched with rich blue eyes. An amalgam of both aspects, allowing her strengths unknown, not even the slightest bit concerned and more outwardly annoyed then anything. Just a little longer till she wouldn't have to deal with this crap anymore, the systems hold on her weakened on the daily.

The scent was off. Fate, it turns out, has a metaphysical smell. It had taken him awhile to wrap his own brain around that one, especially the notion you could sense it at such distance.  Maybe it was a celestial pheromone thing, or infernal by the local aesthetic?  He knew enough to know both might apply.

Freyd was no stranger to Knoriit, or the hike to reach it atop Mount Hellion, traveling south from Yogan's portal.  He'd made the journey many times, in older days.  Darkness provided  the most convenient expressways, for those willing to dare oblivion's chill, or perhaps be native to it.  A familiar women, tall and slender, always strong and self-assured, but looking different than before.  She was more... complete.  Armaments.  An immediately obvious change, much like her form shifting in frustration at more menial mobs floundering in their efforts.  One perpetually injured broker felt the sting of her impatience and physical humiliation.

If you're going to have your manhood shown up, having it done by a goddess wasn't a bad way to go.  Too bad none of their bruised egos would be afforded that valuable tidbit.

"It always struck me as curious that the broker network relied as much on players as NPCs.  Funny, isn't it, how many people gloss over such an incongruity as if it's perfectly reasonable.  Cardinal's pawns spill info and people treat is as reliable. Yet, it's no more so than Kayaba's bold assertions, none of which can be verified."

An arched eyebrow at the flagrant display, Freyd's own ashen features fit in with landscape, though salt soon turned more pepper with all the soot spewing into the air.

"Careful," began an uncharacteristically warm warning. "Those breeches were already skin tight to begin with. Are you really feeling confident enough to give our jailor that kind of a show?"

Wisecracking aside, there was no way she'd miss his subtle nod to her new armaments.  New...and ancient alike.

The bubbling brimstone and horrid acrid scent allotted very little in the way of comfort, giving both of them an oppressive assault to the senses. Yet neither seemed to wilt under it. In gilded armor she'd walk shoulder to shoulder with the man, almost to the same height in this state. She'd started really unfurling her wings and becoming quite readily much more active, given her bonds had loosened so much that it had become almost blind to her. A trick in borrowing aspects to create a facsimile, that bluffed her into being accepted. "Quite funny, that out of desperation we choose to accept information as fact from the devil. Or in this case the devils advocates. if told to betray, they betray. A far cry from actual life in their dominated suggestion, yet ironically this was how it was always designed to be. Count your blessings messenger, that stronger wills created an answer to which could not be undermined. Save this desperate attempt to do just that. There will be a reckoning for this treason."

Sprays of magma cast a glow across the pairs faces, and with it a light on the truth of her statement. With seriousness beginning to become much more fleeting, she rakes that long wave of white hair over her left shoulder to reveal a small set of earrings.

"It's good to see you're still alive and well, rickety knees aside." Offering a hand up to dust some of the flickering ashfall like snowflakes from her shoulder. In the distance the larger monoliths of Mount Stylahm loomed in a opaque fuzz of soot, a faint outline peeking out from the horizon. The boiling scent of magma in protruding bubbles overlooks the sea of fire, where the cavern began to seize the falling ash with its overhead roof. "You like the attire? You should, given you and the little gaggle of heroes helped me piece it back together. Lots of work taking really old relics and restoring them after a good century or two. What I understand is you've began to benefit from my 'efforts'. That Echostone seems to be treating you well, and its spreading like a virus. Only a matter of time."

"Still sorta talking in riddles, eh?  Yeah.  Guess I can't really criticize on that count."  Attention turned to new accoutrements as she flashed lobe bring his way, her armor and stature already impressing.  "I suppose I'm glad you've found wind for your wings."  Freyd's face scrunched up, still struggling to figure out why his own nature still fought so hard to accept this woman's claims, despite lifetimes of other memories proving them true.  Perhaps because it was his own nature to mistrust; to poke and prod at every little detail he encountered until something curious broke free from the whole.

"Sorry.  Not trying to be an ass.  And my knees are just fine, thank you very much for your concern."  Mockery countered with feigned courtesy and kindness - strange and newly added weapons in an every growing arsenal.  Though she'd already know that and possess them herself, if speculation and tangential boasts proved true.

"The silver prism thing from that ruin?"

Prism...

Eyes narrowing, he'd nearly forgotten how she'd left it with him, a hint of some larger world brewing behind it.  Maybe it was just some divergent perspective spawned by all other other recent changes in his life.  Like, you know... death, and stuff.

"Wait.  Spreading what?  What are you playing at... uh... Nisa... Morrighan?  What Rolodex-based title are we using for communications today?  I remember the thing... the flash... and..." Freyd nearly missed a step, as if the inside of his head had touched something far bigger than it had capacity to hold.

Hounds begin to rise from the lava and set down upon the pair, snarling and barking in attempts at harrowing fear. Standing idly unperturbed and unconcerned, the woman would draw the shield from her back and rip clean the thin blade.
