Post Action: Talking to Malachi

Since the updates; Mari knew she wanted to take the Artisan quest; it'd help with her tinkering. Granted she didn't feel like the boon of system assisted crafting really suited her - but at the same time. If it helped... if it gave her the ability to be able to fix things in her workshop without having to reach out to Atan - well... that would be for the best. Mari wanted to keep her word to Freyd, and the more she thought about it. The more she realized that she was naive to think the man was some form of doctor. He was a chemist, and Aincrad was his playground. Mari would continue to work on things; it was the best way to combat it. She'd find solutions to his contagions. Mari wasn't sure if she'd need to pick up any other professions. Tailor seemed unnecessary, same with cook and appraiser. Maybe blacksmith? Mari would deal with that hurdle when she came to it.

Right now; she was supposed to meet someone named Malachi. An older looking gentleman.

Can I help you find something?"

Right...these quest NPCs always seemed so bland. Although, Mari had to admit - she took a liking to this one. He seemed annoyed at her presence, waving her off stating he had no time for such things. Mari took a look around the crowded store. "Looks like you have plenty of free time."

"Go find your own materials. Then we'll talk." He said as he waved her off.

Mari shrugged.

She could do that.

Post Action: Gathering Materials

Mari walked outisde because outside is outside yanno how its the opposite of indoors well this was outdoors so after stepping over that threshold and being from indoors to outdoors mari was now outdoors. And do you know what people do outdoors? They get hit by the sun, oh wow the sun is so nice and warm mm yes. Mari closed her eyes and thought about how amazing the sun was on her skin because she was in prison or something for like two years and when you are in prison for two years you don't get to see the sun on your face or feel the sun on your face or anything like that, anyway Mari guessed she had to go forage for her items. Maybe it would have been quicker to do battle but Mari didn't want to do deal with the whole tier locking thing that occurred on lower floors - that felt like a lot of effort. Then again this also felt like it would be a lot of effort.

Effort for what? Did she even want to do this? She supposed she was already one foot in the door, or in this case one foot out the door. Because she was outside. So Mari found a patch of grass, knelt down and started to look for materials. This would probably take a while, so what could she do whilst she looked for materials? Oh. Mari tore up a clump of grass and let it flutter to the floor. For no particular reason, just because she could.

Since she found nothing here.

POst action: Gathering materials

After ripping up that clump of grass Mari decided to do it again. Because thats what one does when they do these relentless gathering quests - they waste time by ripping up clumps of grass and watching it flutter by in the wind. Wow this game felt so real huh? Even the blades of grass left that slightly itchy feeling on your hand when you played around in it a little too much.

Mari pulled up even more lumps of grass to reveal a nice clean patch of dirt, and in that patch of dirt she started to dig using her hands because what else was she supposed to dig with? she didn't have as shovel. Although bringing a shovel probably would have been a smarter idea. Then again Mari figured she'd get through this quest quicker than she was spending. Oh well...

Anyway, she dug down a little bit but to her dismay she found no materials. Mari would try once, maybe twice more in this spot before she moved on.

POST ACTION GATHERING MATERIALS

So here Mari stood, well actually....here Mari sat. Yeh. Sat. On her hands and knees as she tried to like forage. She moved on from her little dirt patch and shimmied over on ehr hands and knees to like, try and find a different patch...of...well..dirt. Yeh, so off to a different patch, except this wasn't dirt this was....drumroll please! It was MUSHROOMS, Mari started to crunch the mushrooms in her hands, thankful they weren't like death cap mushrooms or anything because they'd be bad, even just touching them would have been bad. But no, these were you run of the mill boring mushrooms. At least they looked pretty.

But mushrooms weren't materials, and materials is what Mari needed most right now. She couldn't find any in this patch. "Aww dangit." Mari said, feeling a little frustrated, she wanted this to be a quick thing, but it didn't seem like it would be. She bet they didn't put many materials out here on purpose, just to watch the players suffer.

POST ACTION GATHERING MATERIALS

GUESS WHAT?

ITS ANOTHER FORAGING ATTEMPT! Mari had stood, and brushed off her hands, it was an act in futility, because I mean, the dirt was wet so it kinda clung to her hands like cling wrap clings to food when you leave it in the micrwave too long and then it just sags down into the food and you're like oh no, and you try to pull it up and out but its too hot and you burn your fingertips? Yeh it's kinda like that. Except instead of cling wrap Mari was now standing by a tree

Mari started ripping the bark off the tree, that counted as foraging right? She hoped so- it appeared so! Because BAM! not just one but TWO whole materials fell out from the bark and clattered silently to the floor or something, Mari bent down and dusted them off and then put them in her pocket, okay that was three down she thinks? two to go, or something like that anyway. Wait no, yeh it was definitely 3 down.

Only two more....

Okay...now Mari had collected three out of the five materials needed to return to Malachi to complete the quest, but that also meant she still needed to find two more, where should she find those two more materials?

Uhm... Mari just kinda like, looked around. Her blue eyes scanning the endless grassy fields around her as she tried to figure out what the hell else she was supposed to do to find materials whilst foraging. This is why she preferred fishing over foraging. Mari doubted she'd ever really have a need or use for materials but hey, maybe one day she would. Maybe the general store would stop selling them and she could corner the market?

Hah.

Fat chance, something like that would just benefit Firm Anima. Bloody Raidou and his crazy ass minions, they could practically run Aincrad with their skills. Anyway, Mari went back to try to rip more bark off the tree to see if she'd chance any more materials from here.

Nope. Nothing. Oh well.

POST ACTION: GATHERING MATERIALS

Mari looked up at the sky, and winced, because she did the dumb. She directly looked at the sun. And do you know what the sun is? its like a big ball of FIRE IN THE GODDAM FUCKING SKY AND ITS LIEK OH NO WHY WOULD YOU FUCKING LOOK AT THAT!?

Anyway seeing where the sun was positioned it was like, Mari would have to assume it was noon? or something, which meant she had been at this for almost an hour and a half already. Maybe she should get a watch, if she did- she'd say it was half past freckle, Mari was cool like that. Lots of fun jokes. Baldur would appreciate the fine art of a good pun.

Mari gave up on that tree, and instead started looking at a new patch of mushrooms at its base, maybe she would have more luck there? Unlikely but it was worth a short to try and look. So far, not so good.

OH WOULD YOU LOOK AT THAT, FINALLY ANOTHER MATERIAL.

Mari yanked it out from the weeds and shoved it into her inventory, because she was a woman and we all know women clothes don't really have pockets, although yes her shorts did have pockets, she didn't want to be stuffing them with materials. She wanted to be stuffing them with, I dunno? what was better than this? anything. Hell she'd even shove actual slimes from the slime farm into her pockets over this.

Anyway, Mari found another material, she found it by a group of reeds by a pile of rocks. Now that she had that material she only had one more to go, surely it would be some nice quick work to find that last one?

She wasn't sure, only time would tell. And time...was beginning to escape her. Mari glanced up at the sky. Monitoring where the position of the sun was. Right...as long as she got this done before late afternoon she'd be fine.

She had plans after all..

Mari sighed as she first sat on the rock, staring at her hands. They were covered in dirt. Dirt was like, totally everywhere. It was beneath her nails, it was crusted on her palms, her wrists her legs, it was everywhere. Mari turned over her hands to look at the top of them and -eyuup they were also covered in dirt. Mari would wipe her brow and instead of wiping off the sweat, she'd just simply wipe dirt ONTO her forehead instead.

Man, that wasn't a very smart move now was it?

oh well. Mari would shower later. She could do that now...a hot shower, warm and plush (and fireproof, we can't forget that) towels. Mari leaned back for a moment, simply enjoying the thought. For years...literal years (or what felt like years, time dialation and all that jazzy jazz) she had denied herself such a thing, always bathing in lakes, ponds - anywhere she had available. It was never a full and deep clean, and it was never warm.

But finally...she could do those things.

What she couldn't do apparently, was find a bloody material.

RANK UP!  47/49 - 50/49 EXP --> [50-149 EXP] Rank 2 - Journeyman Forager: Successfully forage for materials on a LD 13+.

Well, Mari got to think about nice hot showers for a good few minutes but unfortunately before she could get to that she had work to do, and that work was ....you guessed it finding one last material. You'd think finding materials would be a little easier. You'd think Mari would attempt to do a better job at like, preparing herself for such a thing, but you were wrong. Mari was after all, a Player Killer and Player killers could not waltz into town and just buy anything they wanted. Mari was limited to relying on friends.

And those friends...lately she felt like she had been bothernig them a bit, she didn't want to be annoying.

Anyway, Enough of that inner thought bullshit, Mari had materials to find! "Okay!" She said, and no one heard - she hefted up the first rock, which was more like a boulder really, to see if there was anything underneath it.

Nope.

Nothing again.

Mari blinked. Oh....hang on just a minute.

She had to open up her status screen because she must have missed it , but....did her foraging just rank up? Lets see....Mari scrolled through the menu till she found it and EYUP! Rank 2. Cool, I guess? Mari wasn't too fused about trying to level up her foraging skill, she picked it up to just have on standby if needed.

She thought it'd be fine for now, but if today taught her anything it meant that she was really lacking in...well....everything.

There were...lets see...Mari counted the rocks, still four more rocks she could check under. Mari checked under the biggest one already, so now it was time to check underneath the smallest rock. Mari sighed when she saw nothing, she wasn't sure what she was expecting. Of course there wouldn't be any materials under the smallest rock. The damn thing fit in the palm of her hand.

"Dammit!" she said as she threw the rock, watching it soar through the sky before landing far away.

What was that childhood story, the one with the little girl and how she somehow walked into a house belonging to three bears? with the porridge and the beds and stuff? This felt like that. The three rocks were like the three bears, one was too big one was too small.

That means the medium rock should be juuust right - RIGHT? and that meant that surely there would be a material underneath it? RIGHT?

Mari didn't want to get her hopes up. It was a good thing she didn't too because as she lifted the rock and saw a whole lot of nothing she let it drop to the ground with a heavy THUD. Nothing, of course there was nothing. It'd be easy if there was something, because she only needed the one last material.

This was almost as bad as the fishing quest; but at least the NPC wasn't a deluded self absorbed asshole.

Mari sighed as she kicked the rock. How annoying...

WELP! Thats it! These rocks were completely useless, sure there were a few more she could look under but Mari was growing very tired and very frustrated, she didn't want to deal with this damn quest anymore. SHe couldn't imagine anyone crazy enough to do this for EVERY. SINGLE. PROFESSION. Oh wait, yes she could, a man who would wear broken glasses and a red cape. He'd be the kind of driven person to do this.

Mari, however, was not.

A part of her wanted to leave right now, but then there is the time sunk fallacy, right? She had already spent so much time looking so she may as well just finish. So Mari sighed as she happened across a small patch of dandelions. Essentially weeds. She'd try to look through them, first gently - hands grazing over them to see if she could feel anything hard beneath the surface.

Nothing. Bugger.

Post Action: Gathering Materials  and Returning them to Malachi
ID:2489624 LD: 17 CD: 2

Gathering Profession:  62/149

Mari started to rip up the dandelions, in complete unabashed frustration. This was supposed to be calming. This was supposed to be a pleasant and simple experience but instead it turned into an absolute hellish experience. So as Mari sat on her hands and knees, digging through dirt, flowers - and looking under various mushrooms foraging for materials. The woman was very bothered, and very pissed off. A broken nail, dirt all over her hand and knees - the ragged trails of her scarf damp with dirt and debris. Mari just didn't care she just wanted to be done. Morning shifted to afternoon as Mari foraged for a few hours, it had taken longer than she would have liked to collect all the materials she needed. A mental note - to later work on her forage skills.

When Mari burst back into Malachi's shop, dropping the dirtied materials on his counter he looked at her with mild alarm and disgust.
"Oh...you're back..."

"Hurry the fuck up."

Post Action: Crafting the item with Malachi's guidance.

Malachi stood three steps back as he watched Mari. He pointed to the bunsen burner and opened his mouth to speak but Mari interrupted. "Low heat, any higher and the metal would melt." He blinked and nodded. Mari had collected the materials, and was holding the tiny piece of material between forceps - it wasn't her first foray into this sort of activity- it was just the first time she was doing it assisted by the system. So each and every time Malachi tried to tell her to do something she'd be one step ahead - and be already in the process of it.

"You don't need my help woman. You clearly are already an artisan at heart. Although you have the work and skills of a ...novice. Congratulations."

Mari held up the little chain, it was crudely made, the tiny eye etched on it was wonky - and the triangle had uneven sides - but the chain was sturdy and bright. It wouldn't win any contests, but it would get the job done. "Yeh, aight." She didn't need anything else.

Mari would pocket the trinket to be latter appraised, and left the store

At least it was a quick quest.

A small silver chain adorned with a single dangling triangle. The Triangle has a small etching of an eye, not quite the 'illuminati' symbol - but close enough for someone to recognize it as a forgery of one. It looks like someone made it as a joke.
