Scarlet Firefly 0 Posted August 8 #1 Share Posted August 8 (edited) Keepers of Nature Hiding in the depths of floor one, in an area untouched by players for some time now, Firefly found herself at the entrance to a newer(but older?) section of a cave. At the level she was at now nothing on this floor could scare her the same way it did months ago. Her memories were always stuck in that old version of her when she visited the Town of Beginnings and she definitely didn't regret the choice she had made. She was an explorer now: Making memories to return to her mother so that she can control the dialogue for once in her life... And she could compliment how lovely her eyes are. That wasn't the main issue right now, though. Through the new entrance, Firefly could see the massive tree. There wasn't very much information on this quest to her knowledge. It looked like it might be a boss arena and, even though it was on floor one, she worried that it could be a tough one. There were several bosses that were on higher floors that she would have been able to take solo if she wanted. Without information, it would be safer to find a plus one to help her out. Back in the Town of Beginnings, Firefly began asking around. There weren't many strong players on this floor though and not many people wanted much to do with her. She had been relying too much on her guild-mates at this point and really didn't want to have to call them this time... Maybe it was time to give in and just go in alone. Warren 0 Posted August 8 #2 Share Posted August 8 (edited) It was something of an auspicious occasion for Warren to even leave his shop on Floor 7. More of a rarity, indeed, that he would be hanging around the first floor. But of course, the big man called and Warren listened. Sometimes. Oscar usually had respect enough to come fetch him. There had been a disparity between the quality of beverages that Oscar could made and those that Warren could. Something about the innate difference between mixing and actually making compounds. He didn't know. He just worked here. After dropping off a crate of beverages at Oscar's shop, Warren meandered his way back to the Plaza. Lighting a cigarette as his boot clacked against the cobblestones, he remained singularly focused on just going home. That was, until, he spied a girl asking people to help her with a Quest. She flitted to an fro, inquiring around for a player of sufficient strength to help her. Warren certainly wasn't that. But he figured he could give it a try at least. At least because of the same guild ticker that hung above their head. "Yo," he said, approaching from behind her and throwing up his hand in a short wave. "Trackers stick together right? What's on the menu?" No names. No introductions. Warren respected the sanctity of the organization, at the very least. Even if they were so terribly and frustratingly disorganized. Scarlet Firefly 0 Posted August 13 Author #3 Share Posted August 13 (edited) A few minutes of conversations went by and no one really seemed interested. They expressed being too low level, or too afraid to venture into the area. She was ready to give up on this quest for now until she had more context on what it entailed - until finally someone agreed. Her sharp ears tuned in to his heavy footsteps the moment that he came into earshot. Heavy armor, definitely. Firefly turned just as the man called out to get her attention despite having unknowingly already captured it. The icon floating over his head caught her attention. "Oh, hello. I didn't see there was another Tracker here." His introduction wasn't even that. Perhaps he had seen her asking around and noticed they shared a guild. He was immediately no-nonsense, something Firefly wasn't very used to. She twirls in the direction of her quest marker and starts to walk to not waste any of his time. "R-Right. I'm doing this quest here on Floor 1 that I couldn't find too much information on in my first glance at the guild. I couldn't find any info on a possible boss encounter." Her notebook materialized in her hand to reference her Braillic scrawl. "I think it would be safe to bring another person along, just in case. Maybe it'll be some free experience if you care that much about the leveling stuff." The trip wasn't long, thankfully. They arrived back at the spot she left off literal minutes from leaving the safe zone. "Here we are." The girl said stepping past where she had once stopped. The tree in the center of the ancient looking moss-cover hall had caught her attention right away. "Looks like it's actually safe! Sorry if you're were ready for a fight." The quest showed the location of her target for the next objective so she took a look around the tree base. On the opposite side of the tree from the entrance, she quickly found an odd stone chunk. The indented pattern on the front of the stone had quickly perplexed her, however turning it over got a gasp from the girl. The text on the stone was written in Braille! "Finally! Something not in the Latin alphabet!" She pressed her fingers across the indented punches in the tablet reading it aloud with her eyes closed. Quote “If seeking power, wisdom and resilience, find ye those which embody nature’s graces: The fiercest of beasts with unmatched strength; a sentinel to the afterlife bound by the Stygian river; a wise and wily water-borne predator; the unmoved titan who is callous and free; a sly shadow high in the branches of the forest; and lastly, that which prowls and safeguards the sky. Only once vanquished will you harness their power to your benefit. These are the Keepers of Nature.” The dialect kindly reminisced of Shakespeare. Once she was done reading it out loud for Warren, the quest immediately completed and updated at the same time. The duo now had six different targets to track down and beat six fierce foes. "Oh, leave it to me to be worried about nothing. I'm sorry if I wasted your time..." ID#249764 | LD: 16+74 = 90 Combined LD check: 90/60 Objective complete! Warren 0 Posted Sunday at 02:22 PM #4 Share Posted Sunday at 02:22 PM (edited) "It's always best to be cautious," Warren agreed. "No matter how low level the bosses are." You really only had one shot when it came to Quests and fights in this game. A failure to adequately prepare would mean a game over you couldn't walk yourself back from. So Warren could only respect the pragmatism. Truth be told, he wasn't exactly one to strike out and brave the dangers of the game on his own if he could avoid it. Even if he had out-scaled most things on Floor 1. And the journey to the cave hadn't been long. Neither had the search for the McGuffin they were meant to find. It was almost scary how Firefly had managed to pick a half buried slab out from the roots of a tree from several dozen meters away. "I'd prefer no fight to a fight, honestly," he said, peering over her shoulder as she read the tablet. It struck him as odd that the tablet was in Braille and struck him as stranger still that she could read Braille. Rather suspect if he were being honest, but Warren wasn't going to make a big deal about it. What was he going to do? Ask her if she was blind in real life? That would be extremely rude and prying. So, instead, he pulled a smoke out of his breast pocket and lit it, hanging back and puffing away as she translated the tablet. The moment she finished reading it, several windows popped up. An assortment of quests - most locked, one not - adding themselves to his ever-growing list of tasks to do. Considering the words written on the tablet and the objective of this next quest, it was plainly a boss rush. They'd get the fights they were worried about - just not now. "Not exactly a waste of time," he stated as he swiped his hand through the air to dismiss the interfaces. "Looks like this one unlocked several more. And I'm not one to leave a job half done, so if you're set to do 'em, I'm down. It bothers me to have so many things logged that are incomplete." Scarlet Firefly 0 Posted Sunday at 09:14 PM Author #5 Share Posted Sunday at 09:14 PM Warren would express his desire to go without a fight and Firefly could agree with that 100%. Her nods would mirror his sentiment. "Agreed. Fighting it so stressful. I prefer the wonderful sights the game has to offer as opposed to the stats and swords or whatever." Though she understood why people might enjoy a fantasy world where they can feel like a powerful force that just wasn't the appeal of the game for her. It was nothing more than a stepping stone to go wherever she wanted. Samantha proved to be either an amazing translator, or a complete cheater. Thankfully in this case she was just an extreme edge case. Her hand whisked away the menus that blocked her from the beauties of the world around her. The girls gaze would find its way back to Warren who was explaining that he hates seeing his quest log a bit too bloated. "Yeah, I feel the same way." Perhaps for different reasons though. Too many Latin letters instantly overwhelmed her. "I'm totally down." Her tone cheerfully mocked Warren's a tad, followed with a cute chuckle. "Those bosses have to be in some pretty remote and interesting locations right? I have to see them all! Besides, I uh-... I don't really feel confident enough to try and fight anything alone anymore..."
