After a short break from her new friend Warren, they would soon to reconvene on floor eight were their first target in the quest chain. Hopefully her new attire wasn't too jarring. She had decided to change her skills around in hopes that she would never feel the pain of being impaled again.

This was a good time for her to take in the sights of Floor Eight, though. It was in her nature to just explore while she waited for her company to arrive, so she walked around the teleportation platform and spoke with some of the local NPCs while browsing some of their shops. Another dense jungle similar to the feeling of Floor six, not really her taste. Several of the locals were elves though, so that was rather interesting and something that she would be adding to her extensive notebook.

Hopefully there were no more quests like that one on Floor Six. It was annoying how much she had to remind herself of it but it was one thing she could her entire life without seeing ever again. The horrors she faced there would surely leave her scarred for some time.

As loath as Warren was to admit it, actually getting out of his shop had done wonders for his mental health. The man had not quite realized how isolated he’d kept himself these past few years. He still enjoyed his ability to just tinker with things in the privacy and the quiet of his own home. But, getting out and spending time with new people and friends wasn’t a bad thing.

Almost enjoyable for the misanthropic former soldier.

But could he really say that he was a former soldier? He was kept busy. Another cog in the machine. Given authority that, by rights, he should not have. Why had it even been assumed that Warren was comfortable with it? He wasn’t, of course. Even so, he certainly had the stomach for it. How had he known? Did Warren really present himself as that cold.

Warren arrived at the meeting spot, throwing up his hand in greeting as he laid eyes on Firefly. While the past few weeks had brought significant changes, not the least of which was the fact that Warren wasn’t chain smoking. At least not right now. His fingers were free of a cigarette, hands shoved in his pockets as he let out a big yawn at his approach.

Night job kept him up late.

“Yo,” he said simply, squeezing his eyes shut and opening them in an effort to shake off the doldrums of the sleep that just ended half an hour ago. “You got a new look. Cute.”

An off-handed comment. Honest, though.

“You ready to do this thing?”

Warren peered off into the distance, covering his face with his hand as he let out another loud yawn. “‘Cause there’s the boss.”
