Her hair is cropped just above the shoulders, a deep brown at the roots that fades into a faint mauve toward the tips, tousled as if she never bothers to tame it fully. She wears a dark beret with a lace fastening for a quiet touch of elegance amidst her otherwise muted look. Her armor favors shades of purple, with soft, lighter tones layered beneath the dark plum of her overcoat, trimmed with gold detailing. The rest of her outfit favors the practical, consisting of tall, leather boots and belts and bags. Overall, her appearance straddles the line between adventurer and socialite, well-enough put together so as not to be plain, but not so gaudy to appear ostentatious. ⋆⁺₊⋆ ━━━━⊱༒︎ • ༒︎⊰━━━━ ⋆⁺₊⋆ PERSONALITY ☆ ” Now every skeleton is slappin' its knees / ” ✦ True Neutral ─★ By nature, Plum is cautious. Treasure hunting is delicate work, to which she is well-suited. She has no illusions about her own strength in combat - she preferred to rely on wit, resourcefulness, and negotiation, rather than brute-force her way through by means of a sword. While she comes across as something meek when shoulder-to-shoulder with a frontliner, her knack for tiny details and problem-solving prove just as valuable an asset on quests. She has a soft-spoken charm and a talent for persuasion, often able to talk her way out of (or into) any situation she chooses. There’s a rumor she could talk her way out of Aincrad, if only she could meet the game master. Although she avoids conflict to the best of her ability, Plum isn’t cowardly: she simply knows her limits, and understands that her survival depends on her respecting them. Her practicality has earned her allies who appreciate her honesty, and critics who resent her opportunistic tendencies. She values the companionship that she finds, but avoids getting overly attached - in Aincrad, tomorrow was never a guarantee. ✦ VIRTUES ─★ Observant / Plum has a keen eye, often noticing details that fall to the wayside. Be it a missed etching in a wall, indicating hidden treasure, or a subtle glance shared between other players- she is taking note of it all. Every tidbit of information is systematically tucked away in a corner of her mind, held onto until it may prove its use. ─★ Curious / This player is driven by a deep longing to know all she can about the world around her. She will poke her nose in places it doesn’t belong, and prod every sleeping tiger. There is no stone she will leave unturned. ─★ Grounded / She understands exactly her role in this world. She refuses to get swept away by glory or bravado: she knows her limits and plays to her strengths. If a situation gets out of hand, a strategic retreat is her immediate play. ✦ FLAWS ─★ Reliant / Her biggest weakness is an over-dependency on stronger players. It makes her feel like a burden on quests, and often drives a wedge between her and others, who call out her inability to pull her own weight. Her reluctance to ask for help causes her progress to stagnate for long periods. ─★ Unambitious / Plum is content to stay in the background, an NPC in every sense except coding. She rarely pushes herself to become greater than she is, rooted in the fear that it will lead to her death. This feeds back into her inability to fight for herself - she remains unmotivated to try to learn. ─★ Sentimental / Has a great difficulty letting go of anything. She will stubbornly refuse to upgrade to better armor, having grown too attached to what’s carried her this far. She hoards consumable items as well, unable to commit to using them. She will assign meaning and stories to every object, but fears establishing the same sort of connection with other people. ⋆⁺₊⋆ ━━━━⊱༒︎ • ༒︎⊰━━━━ ⋆⁺₊⋆ HISTORY ☆ ” / Laughin' at the holes he left behind. " ✦ Umeko was raised in a fairly ordinary household, the middle of three children in Tokyo. Her father was your average man working in finance, her mother an athlete from the United States, who now coached at a local university. While each parent had their own opinions on how best to raise the three girls, their mother’s American ideals triumphed, and they were encouraged to follow whatever path brought them the most fulfillment… with the caveat being that they needed to commit fully to at least one sport throughout grade school. Clumsy, uncoordinated little Umeko stuck to track and field. She was never fast enough to win, but she enjoyed the steady rhythm of it, and took pride in finishing each race. Sports simply didn’t define her life the way they ended up dominating her sisters’, and that was just fine by her. In class, she did well enough - she didn’t struggle to keep up, by any means, but for all her cleverness and constant reading, she never seemed to rise above her classmates either. She always did just enough work to get by without standing out. Nothing in her life was out of the ordinary, and she preferred it that way. Friend to all, enemy to none. Her real joy came in her collections. From stamps, to coins, to empty bug shells- anything small or easily forgotten, held a whole hidden world to her. She loved the idea that each trinket she collected came with its own story: who handled it, where it originated, why it ended up where it did. She became adept at trading bracelets and bottle caps with her schoolmates, bartering with patience and a convincing tongue to work her way to gaining hard-to-find trophies. By university, she had narrowed down her interest into history, with a focus on commercial archeology and museum studies. She had no interest in leading excavations or traveling the world as an explorer on the search for ancient artifacts- that was much too attention-grabbing for her quiet tastes. Instead, she followed the precision of museum work. She became a specialist in archiving: cataloging relics, updating descriptions, and ensuring pieces were preserved and displayed properly for exhibits. Her colleagues teased her meticulousness and joked that she would never find a boyfriend if all she could talk about was ancient pottery, but Umeko found great satisfaction and joy in what she did. Every item that passed through her hands had a story worth remembering - what boyfriend had ever been more interesting than that? The pull toward hidden histories and forgotten treasures is what ended up drawing her to Sword Art Online. Umeko heard the grand tales about a hidden realm, unlike any that had existed prior, and she found the concept absolutely irresistible. An entire world, with secrets baked into the binary of its digital soil: nothing could keep her away. When she logged in, under the name Plum, she had no interest in the so-called “glory of combat.” What she gravitated towards was treasure hunting. To uncover the buried treasures of Aincrad - what could be more fun?
