Plot Master 0 Posted 3 hours ago Author #2 Share Posted 3 hours ago Spoiler October 31. A man hurries home, arms heavy with bags of candy. The crisp autumn air brushes his cheeks. He burrows into the warmth of his flannel and hustles up the stairs to the front door, where his wife prepares the pumpkins. Traditional, spooky-faced jack-o-lanterns are designated to the right side; on the left are crude attempts at carving her favorite cartoon characters. Without putting the bags down, he plants a quick, unexpected kiss on her head and strides into the kitchen. On the counter, two bowls await him. He unloads each bag, pocketing a handful of their favorite treats for later, and carries the bowls outside. The front porch is strung up with comical renditions of classic spooks and scares. Paper mache ghosts and knitted spiders hang from the awning, and two skeletons stand in the tall grass, dressed in formal attire and held up by planks. He takes a seat next to his wife and hands her one of the bowls. Together, they wait for the sky to darken. Across Aincrad, trick-or-treating has already begun. Players flock to houses, laughing as they exchange candy and drift from porch to porch. Streets glow with warm orange and pale green, carrying voices through the cool breeze. Monsters are out of sight and mind, and for one night, all is well in the floating castle. The man leans back in his chair, his wife’s shoulder brushing his, and watches the first group of costumed players approach their steps. He feels the weight of the candy bowl in his lap, the faint glow of the jack-o-lanterns beside them, and the quiet, steady comfort of being exactly where he wants to be. The Celtic celebration of Samhain. "Souling" during All Souls' Day. "Guising" in Scotland and Ireland. Guy Fawkes Night. Many pieces came together to form the Halloween tradition that we all know and love. "Trick-or-treating" was first depicted in a Peanuts comic strip in 1951, followed closely by a Disney cartoon in 1952. Now, some estimates put world-wide Halloween candy spending at over $5 billion annually. Apparently, even being trapped inside a death-game can't stop the tradition. House Host (Handing Out Candy) Spoiler Handing out candy to trick-or-treaters is an essential part of the Halloween festivities. It's a big responsibility though, so don't leave your porch light on unless you're ready for that kind of a commitment. In order to open up your character's house to eager candy-seekers, follow these steps: Create a thread on your house's floor, and include the label [EV]. In your first post, describe how you've decorated your house for Halloween. When others post in your thread, you must speak with each character. You are not required to write one post per interaction (you can talk to multiple people at a time), but everyone needs to be included. You're welcome to get creative with your thread (including other Halloween elements, for example), but it cannot infringe upon players' ability to enter your thread and interact with you. Keep it interesting, but please use your best judgement. If you don't keep up with the interactions in your house thread, you may risk losing the "house host" reward, described below. Trick-or-Treating Spoiler What's Halloween without the trek from porch to porch? Of course, things get a bit more exciting in Aincrad. Now you're teleporting from floor to floor, and hiking across mountains, forests, and swamps to reach participating houses. But the candy's worth it, right? To go trick-or-treating, just do the following: Enter one of the threads listed below. Describe your character approaching the house and interacting with the homeowner. There must be verbal communication at some point in the thread, though it doesn't necessarily have to happen in your first post. You're encouraged to stick around, but you're only required to post twice per thread: once before you receive your candy, and once afterward. Basic Reminders Spoiler All posts must still meet the 150 word requirement. You must provide your character's stats in the first post of each thread you enter. There is no threat of death here, but the stats are required for reward purposes. You must post three times across the entirety of the event in order to qualify for standard thread rewards. This is three times across all threads, not three times per thread. Remember though - each trick-or-treating interaction requires two posts, so you're better off posting a minimum of four times. Standard thread rewards will be calculated by adding up the word count for all threads combined. Essentially, imagine as if all of this was taking place in one big OP thread. For organizational purposes, it will be split up. Be respectful. Each host's thread is, in a sense, their own personal story. Do your best to not hijack it, and run wild ideas by the writer OOC before carrying them out. Rewards Spoiler Objective Rewards Successfully host a house thread. Candy Corn (x1) Increase the effectiveness of a single crafted potion consumed in a thread by +1 (Player’s Tier) slot. Cannot be applied to an enhancement that has already benefited from [Candy Corn]. Go trick-or-treating. Halloween Candy (x1 per house visited) Tiered Consumables of choice between the following: { DMG/MIT/OH/ACC/EVA/LD } Monster House Your house is visited by ten or more players. Halloween Favour (x1) Allows a re-identification attempt on a single enhancement slot from a single piece of gear at a Merchant using only their Unique Enhancement table. If an enhancement is rolled that matches a pre-existing enhancement on the equipment piece at capacity, the player is allowed an additional reroll attempt. (eg. If a player rolls [FALLEN/HOLY] on a perfect sword that has [FALLEN II/???], the player may choose either [HOLY] on their roll or opt for the reroll attempt.) Party Animal Visit ten or more house threads. (eg. If a player rolls [FALLEN/HOLY] on a perfect sword that has [FALLEN II/???], the player may choose either [HOLY] on their roll or opt for the reroll attempt.) In addition to the above, writers will also receive the following per character. Standard thread rewards as described above. 1 Mon for hosting a house thread. 1 Mon for visiting another house. This results in a maximum of 2 Mon for the entire event.
