[SP-F2] Breaking the 4th Wall (Completed)

Recommended Posts

When he approached the top of the mountain, Tristan let himself lie on a nearby rock. Even for someone physically fit like him, that was tiring. His body complained with anaerobic respiration. It made him think how realistic SAO felt, where you could be hungry or tired and such, even if in real life you were sustaining no such burden. It was something that got him thinking, giving him food for thought as he rested for an hour.

An hour later, much recovered, he approached the large rock that covered the entrance to the main dungeon. Apparently boulders rolling from the top of the hill due to weather erosion was very common, so the entrance got blocked very often even if the rock before was broken. Just his luck he supposed, or most likely a game mechanic to ensure more people can learn the martial arts skill.

He put away his equipment and was now topless, looking at the rock. It was cold, but soon he would be making so much sweat for himself, he won't feel the cold.

HOW THIS WILL WORK.

Each post will be rolled for a Loot Dice with no modifiers active. Each day will have him doing damage 1-20 to the rock of 100 HP, of which each warrants its own post. Doing a roll of 1 will end up with an injury and warrant a loss of 1 HP point.

For a first day, it was not shabby. He was for once, usually a rarity, teeming with energy. His body pumped with adrenaline and was ready for the task at hand.

"Ata!" He punched the rock hard, then again. It was sore against the knuckles, but the adrenaline covered that up. He was ready to punch some more for the rest of the day. Which he did.

Another day, another punch to throw at a rock. Already however his apathy was taking over and he was not feeling energetic today. The punches against the rock felt like they had no impact and his knuckles were feeling the pain. He could feel this was a long journey. He was just so happy he had plenty of provisions, of which he ate a bread and drank one bottle of water for that day. When the day was over, he set up camp at the hut next to the dungeon entrance, just as he had last night. Typical video games and their practical occurring structures.

  • Rolled a 3 on the d4 dice.
  • Rolled a 4 on the d6 dice.
  • Rolled a 3 on the d8 dice.
  • Rolled a 1 on the d10 (battle) dice.
  • Rolled a 12 on the d12 (craft) dice.
  • Rolled a 11 on the d20 (loot) dice.

Today Tristan was more confident. His thoughts of enthusiasm to conquer the challenge were replaced of ones saying "Let's just get this over with shall we?". That one he said out loud too, not that anything but any possible avian wildlife was listening to him. His fists felt like they did more impact to the rock and he could feel it starting to show weakness, but he still had plenty while to go before it gave way.

He consumed another piece of bread and water at the end of the day and slept when he felt he did all his body warranted for the day.

Tristan felt a slight slump from lack of energy today than compared to yesterday, but it was nothing like the second day. He was confident though that he would manage this before provisions ran out, even if they began to dwindle. Then again, he still had the Pork he could cook and the fact he technically can't starve to death. He consumed bread and water at the end of the day when his hands began hurting too much and his shoulders were sore.

"Aaaaaataaaaah!" His punches felt good and impactful today. They were cleanly hitting the rock and he could feel the rock crack slightly more at each hit. He felt as though he was beginning to understand the way of his own style of martial arts, which, like his spear, was consecutive hits at weakpoints. Martial arts was not strength, it was about using the opponent against themselves.

He consumed bread and water and slept peacefully, content with the results of the day. More like this and he'll have it down soon. Martial arts turned out to be a long and hard path, but possibly he could overcome it and gain the confidence he wanted.

Tristan was getting the hang of it and into a routine, shouting in inspiration to punch more with each hit, hitting where his eyes judged there were weakpoints in the rock. Each time he punched, a visual crack came where he punched, which filled him with more confidence. Like all the other days, his slim but muscled body sweated as he punched, a body built through exercise and combat in the real world.

He consumed bread and water at the end of the day and was starting to feel like a real martial artist.

"Aaaat-AAAAHH YE censored censored!!!" A punch went awry, hitting a pebble outcrop of the rock and breaking one of his fingers as it landed. His hands already sore, this was painful. It also stopped him from any more activity for the day, using the day to nurse his hand back to health for tomorrow. Many expletives about igneous rocks were spoken of that day in a hut as a man ate on some bread miserably.

Day 7

Tristan breathed in, then out. His body began to glow, as it was a sword skill where the body was the sword.

I must be powerful, striking like the spear. When I hold the spear, it becomes the spear. When I lunge my body, it becomes the spear. When I strike with the spear, I become the spear. Become like the spear.

His body glowed orange from the top half of his body, then flashed out as he punched at high speed, unleashing a combo at the rock of a high number he didn't pay attention to.

"ATATATATATATATATATATA-AAATAAAAA!"

The final blow struck the rock and split it, sending surges of cracks all across the rock, from which it crumbled to dust. A message showing the sword skill popped up "Hundred Crack Fist!"

Huh, well the crack in the name seemed suitable, seeing as he cracked a rock to smithereens.

A message popped up with his HUD "Martial Arts Learned!"

Tristan sighed and slumped to his knees in exhaustion, very much still in cooldown from his sword skill. He did it. He had gained and owned for himself martial arts, striking with the hands like the very spear he wields.

Tristan put his equipment back on for travel and walked back down the mountain, leaving the dust to settle for itself.
