[SP F1] Training and Soliloquies

After his encounter with Hari and Clouds, Hakiro decided he needed to urgently improve his skills on the battlefield. He traveled outside of the city, wandering around until he finally encountered a few stray boars and decided to practice his skills against one.

"I wonder if this is actually an intricate prank that the SAO team pulled to encourage more gamers to play the game due to its realism" Hakiro thought to himself, not believing that his life hung in the balance of a game. Readying his spear, Hakiro engaged the boar determined to slay the beast. "This foolishness of mine can wait for another day, for now, lets polish our skills before the others move on" Hakiro thought confidently to himself.

Hakiro initiated the combat by charging at the boar. However, quick to detect his motion, the boar turned around and also charged at his attacker. Hakiro lunges towards the boar as the boar charged straight into him. His attack was stopped by an upwards swing from the boar, locking Hakiro's spear between the boars tusks. After fiercely struggling to remove his spear, Hakiro succeeded and barely dodged a second attack from the boar.

This time falling back to a more calm and observant approach,  Hakiro waited for the boar to instead to charge head on towards him. He was rewarded with the sound of an angry boar charging towards him at full speed as he prepared to strike. Hakiro aimed his sight true and thrust upon the boar, knowing his blow connected as he saw a gleam of pink coming from the newly made wound along the boars side. However, as the boar charged past Hakiro, it had also managed to slam into Hakiro with enough force, that Hakiro flew back a bit.

Determined to finish off the battle, Hakiro again assumed his somewhat defensive stance. Again the boar charged towards him, but knowing its movements, Hakiro plunged his spear deep through the skull of the boar while also managing to avoid any impact from the boars rampage. The boar burst into shards, which sparkled in the clear afternoon sky for a short moment before vanishing. Hakiro thought to himself, "Would the same thing happen to a player who's health dropped to zero?". Hakiro shuddered as he thought of the possibility of another actually losing their lives to a game. Nobody was to lose their lives in such an unfair fashion. Nobody.

Still unsatisfied with his skills, Hakiro was determined to fight a similar sized boar. Hakiro thought to himself "in the end, I guess this feels just like any other normal MMORPG". Sure it was in a far more complex VR system than any other game he had experienced before, but in the end, it all summed up to grinding mobs and quests to progress. In this case however, grinding also had an effect on his own skills. Knowing the importance of experience and levels, Hakiro was determined to train and become stronger in the game to the point of joining one of the stronger guilds out there.

Knowing the attack pattern of the boar, Hakiro attempted to once again, charge at the boar to gain the element of surprise, praying that he would eventually stop failing to land a first strike against what appeared to be the weakest mob in the game. Hakiro's praying paid off as he charged straight into a surprised looking boar (well the facial expression would have been of a suprised boar if there was such an expression). The boar however, did not retaliate and just stood dumbfounded to see itself lose an eye out of the blue. Hakiro also stood confused pondering if those were the proper behaviours of all the AI in the game or a possible exploit he could take advantage of.

Confident on his boar slaying skills, Hakiro again strikes the boar, this time striaght through the still dumbfounded beats underbelly, creating a fair sized hole straight through the beast. Without even a moment to react, the boar, (now with wide openend eyes added to its surprised look) instantly shattered into many crystals. Hakiro wondered how many of these beasts did he have to fight through in order to prime his skills. Hakiro lay down his spear to rest for a brief moment and pondered about his future life in Aincrad. "Where will I stay for the night? He pondered to himself, not knowing the cost of a night at an inn. "I guess I'll deal with the matter when time calls for it" he thought to himself. "But for now, lets focus on clearing a couple more of these guys".

Satisfied with his training, Hakiro decided to return to the city and meet up with his friends. However, before Hakiro neared the gates, he saw a large, mean looking Boar grazing alone on a field. Hakiro wondered to himself, "How would anyone miss a boar of that size?" Hakiro was prepared to prove that his training paid off, cast aside his palns to return to town and readied his spear to engage the boar.

Gaining momentum and rushing towards the massive boar, Hakiro went straight for the boar. The boar noticed Hakiro charge towards him but due to his large size, could not turn around in time and instead recieved a crippling blow to its right flank. Succumbing to its injury, the boar collapsed under pain, unable to retaliate from the attack.

Confident in his blows Hakiro again charged towards the boar in an attempt to finish off the beast. Much to his suprise the boar made an extremely fast recovery and flung Hakiro back a few feet, but Hakiro managed to land on his feet sustaining unnoticeable injuries. The boar, now fully standing up, looked at Hakiro with enraged eyes.

The boar's gaze struck fear in Hakiros eyes as it charged towards him. Realizing the imminent threat, Hakiro barely manages to set up a counterattack, struck straight into the chest by the boar, sending Hakiro flying. Hakiro's completely missed and Hakiro was left to awe the beast.

Hakiro continued to look at the boar with fearful eyes until he realized. He was in a game. Why was he fearing in a game. Hakiro regained his senses and charged the boar head on striking it down straight through the centre with so much force, Hakiro heard cracking sounds coming from within the boar followed by the boar shattering into a million pixels. Satisfied with his training, Hakiro decided to head back for town.

Hakiro stared up at the blue sky. He sighed, as he realized he it was most likely going to be the same sky he would gaze upon until they had cleared the game. "At least it ain't that bad of a sky to stare upon," Hakiro muttered underneath his breath. As he walked he pondered about how the game would affect the families of those who played. He chuckled as he knew his parents wouldn't care about him much or enough to worry. Then he froze, realizing that he was being left unattended while in a game. "What if I were to die of starvation or thirst while in Aincrad?" Hakiro's asked himself, knowing it was more likely that he would die of thirst or hunger before he possibly died in game. His pace quickened, hurrying to return to town.

While walking back, Hakiro's just couldn't bear the thought of death and had to take his mind off things. He took deep breaths closed his eyes and felt the afternoon breeze brush against his face. He promised himself "I'm getting out of this game alive no matter what. It will just take sheer luck and no skill. Well, it's all luck in the beginning I guess." Hakiro thought to himself. He smiled at how he already made friends on the first day, hoping to make more allies in the game. "Well I guess it's like that old saying; in life you start with a full pot of luck and an empty pot of skill. Your objective in life is to fill up the pot of skill before your luck runs out" Hakiro chuckled to himself, realizing that he also needed to improve his skills in order to survive. "Another boar I guess?" Hakiro thought to himself. Though he was getting extremely bored with the boar slaying, he knew that it was currently his main way of mastering his arts.

Hakiro began his training, seeing how many consecutive boars he could slay before his health dropped low. "Focus on the strikes" Hakiro knew that he had to aim carefully or risk missing his taget altogether. Scanning the open grasslands that made up most of floor one, Hakiro finally found a field full of boars and decided to test his mettle. He initiated the jump on one, this time excercising a more steadfast approach than before. Instead of charging recklessly, Hakiro used a slower but more steadfast approach that had landed square into the Boars flanks. The boar retaliated but Hakiro predicted its actions and dodged out of its way before it could harm Hakiro.

Again, the boar charged Hakiro, much like in his previous encounters. Again Hakiro took position and struck the boar and quickly avoided its attack. It was mindless killing. Killing... No, this wasnt killing as these were artificial intelligence. Deep in thought, Hakiro barely noticed the Boar disintegrate into a thousand pieces and Hakiro moved on to slay another.

Continuing his so called slaughter of artificial pigs, Hakiro took on another boar, again charging at it head on. Hakiro's strike landed again, but as Hakiro was deep in thought, he did not realize the boar had also impaled him square in the stomach. Hakiro flew back, eyes open, astonished at what the boar was capable of doing. His mind came back to a sense of reality and he foccused onto the boar once again.

This time in full focus of what lay ahead of him, Hakiro was determined to slay the beast. He stood his ground as the boar charged towards him, this time stepping towards the side before the boar could make contact and lashed out towards the boar, burying his spear deep into the boars rib cage, shattering the boar into a million shards. He frowned at himself, knowing that this would probably toll on for a while.

As Hakiro sought out another boar, He realized his health had dropped low. "Rest for now, fight another" Hakiro thought to himself. It was not a cowardly retreat, as those who die cannot face their challenges once again in life. Hakiro smiled, realizing it was indeed his life on the line. "Wagering my life to a game huh..." Hakiro chuckled, it had been a long while since something this interesting had come. Putting his troubles aside, Hakiro returned to the city, determined to return later and master his skills. Hakiro looked out at the horizon, realizing that this was definitely going to be his new home for a long while.
