[SP | Kingpin] Blades of Dreams (Quest)

Recommended Posts

Damon had his own shop, but now he needed some weaponry and armor to get an edge on the competition. Sure, he had that lame old starter longsword of his, but it really didn't do enough in terms of raw power. He needed something a fair bit stronger and, preferably, something that had a little emphasis on the unique factor. Not that he wanted to show off or anything, but he certainly didn't want to seem like some powerless nobody. As such, he began making his way to Sai's shop, an NPC with a quest that would reward you with a sword, exactly what he needed.

He walked into the girl's shop, expecting there to be an old lady sweeping as she waited on customers, but it was pretty standard. The NPC was standing behind the counter, just like the last one he encountered, but it was a bit younger than his expectations, "Hi there! Are you here to aid me?" Damon nodded his head, "Yeah, just need to know what you want." She looked a bit confused by his bluntness, but continued, "Well, if you want to keep things short, all I need three of the following: an ivory husk from a searmong boar, a small chunk of a mystique oak tree, the scales from a diamondback zortoad, or a crystallized seafoam stone."

Damon made his way into the woods, looking for the so-called searmong boar that the girlie had been talking about, "Sounds pretty rough, wonder if it's really as monstrous as she claims it is." The shop owner had declared it as a huge pig with husks, nearly ten times the size of a show pig. Considering that there would be absolutely no reason for show pigs in this game, unless there was some sort of farming simulator featured in the game, he wasn't so keen on believing her... After some time, he'd finally encounter the piggie that he was looking for. While it wasn't nearly as big as the woman described, it wasn't small either. He drew his sword and charged towards the beastie.

He got the jump on the pig, landing a critical hit on the poor unsuspecting monster. It squealed in terror, having absolutely no idea what had struck it and why in the world anything would dare try to attack it. After turning to find the predator, it backed away grunting and kicking its back leg. After it had gained enough of a distance to consider charging, it went for a sloppy attack. Kingpin would easily have the opportunity to get out of the way and, when he was ready, would go for another easy attack.

As the overweight pig rushed past him, he slid the edge of his blade along the side of the boar. He pushed in with a fair bit of force causing the blade to dig in deep into the innards of the monster, but it wouldn't suffer long as it shattered into thin air. A notification informed him that he had obtained the husk of the searmong boar, "Sweet... Things are working out better than the last quest already." He almost didn't want to remind himself of the lack of loot he had obtained while slaying monsters throughout the duration of that quest, but it definitely was good for a base comparison. While he was here in the woods, he figured he ought to look for that mystique oak tree. It had to be here somewhere.

Damon sheathed his sword and began wandering the woods, keeping an eye out for the glistening tree, a lake to find the stone, and that toad thing that the girl had mentioned. Obviously, this was a pretty prime location for it all to be in, considering that she specifically suggested he start here. He'd have to keep this location in the back of his mind as there was more than likely valuable items that could be used for his deep dive into the field of alchemy. After a while, he would encounter a lake. Stepping towards it, he'd get cut off by the diamondback zortoad - ready for battle.

Damon drew his sword and took a quick slash in front of the zortoad, leaving a pretty shallow gash in the face of his opponent. It hissed in agony and hopped towards its aggressor in an attempt to pin him to the ground, but Damon was quickly able to get out of the way. It was a pretty large monster and surprised him, though it seemed a little less dangerous when you realize it had the same statistics as the previous boar that he just so brutally murdered.

Miss!

The oversized toad hopped back a bit as Damon tried to push forwards, leaving too big a gap to fill in too short a time. Those long legs were a really advantageous thing to have, but if the monster didn't fight back, it'd be spending the evening trying to figure out how to respawn. Unfortunately for Damon, the toad was a bit smarter than that and had a trick up its sleeve... or more accurately, a tongue in its mouth. The zortoad stuck it out and grabbed the player, pulling him towards the toad. Before the player got too close, the toad would release its grip and cause the player to crash along the ground.

Obviously, the monster pulled a cute little trick, but even if Damon had fallen for it (both literally and figuratively), it wasn't something that he'd fall for again. Catching himself and hopping back up to his feet, he rushed towards the zortoad now that it was nearby. It didn't react quick enough and he was able to stab the monster in the stomach just before it hopped away. It hissed again, this time in anger and instead of running away while it had the chance, it began hopping back towards the player.

Miss!

The monster closed the gap pretty fast... too fast. It had overestimated the number of hops to get within a safe distance that would allow itself to attack while being far enough away that the player wouldn't be able to strike back. Instead of stopping dead in its tracks, it decided to hop over Damon's head. He still swung his sword upwards, hoping to be able to finish it off with a lucky strike, but it was a futile attempt. It was simply too high for him to reach, but he would start to run towards the toad's landing location while it was still in the air.

2 Damage!

Just after the toad landed on the ground, it would turn around to find a sword piercing through its skull. Artificial or not, the thought of completely splitting the bone and brain brought a grin to Damon's lips. Granted, he wasn't one that really cared for these kinds of things, but he was getting a little caught up in the moment during these battles, "Wow, never realized how exciting these games can be..." He sheathed his sword and scratched his head, "Wonder if it's only something these virtual realities can cause."

[5676] 14 Loot

Damon walked over to the lakebed and began searching for the crystallized seafoam stone, a pale stone that, obviously, had crystals growing on it. He wasn't too sure how big it was, but the shop owner did tell him that they were considerably difficult to find since they take a while to begin forming the crystals. Even if some of the ones he was picking up and tossing into the lake were the stone he was looking for, they might not yet have crystals on them. They only truly became useful to the trade once they harbored the crystals, which could be used in a vast multitude of professions, specifically forging and alchemy.

He continued to pick up rocks, though he found himself getting more and more caught up in skimming the rocks across the surface of the lake. It was amazing how realistic everything was here, nearly the equivalent of a dream. Everything felt so real and natural besides the setting they were in, it was absolutely unbelievable. Even the little things like skipping rocks or watching the fish react had its own realism, so much so that he got caught up in it. Little did he know, a keen diamondback zortoad had come to seek revenge on his fallen comrade...

4 Damage!

The monstrous being gave a damn near ear shattering croak as it pounced for Kingpin, luckily giving him enough forewarning to allow him to unsheath his sword and raise it up into the belly of the beast, "Come on, I'll skin you alive like your friend." He laughed a bit at the thought of being some professional monster hunter before backing away from the enraged monster, letting it build up enough anger on its own before trying to attack Damon sloppily, "Over here, you ugly thing."

2 Damage!

The diamondback zortoad fell for the bait and started to lean back on its legs, cuing Damon in on the fact that he should begin sprinting towards the beast as a counter. He dashed forwards the moment the toad leapt into the air, the stupid thing trying to close the distance in a single bound. It allowed Damon to line himself up perfectly underneath the monster as he swung his sword up into the air, splitting the monster completely in two. It shattered and he was rightfully rewarded with quite the good booty, "There we go, I could use more of that."

Damon took a seat on a nearby boulder, taking a bit of time to relax and recall on what all he was here for. Sure, he and everyone else was trapped in this blissful paradise Well, with the single exception of the rule about dying here means dying in the real world, but that's just how things were. He couldn't control that. Nobody else could either. However, he had a family waiting on the outside. Both blood and loyal, they all mattered to him. He'd eventually find a way out of here, no matter how long it would take. They were all he had and here, he had nothing more than a locked shop, a pointy stick, and the clothes on his back.

[5685] 19 Loot

It was dreadful for most people, considering they were in the same boat as Damon. He wasn't one to worry though, he always had the answer, even if this one wasn't nearly as easy to achieve. Getting off his good for nothing bum, he began searching for that blasted rock, "It may seem stupid, but that rock's the next stepping stone to getting out of here." He needed better equipment so he could become stronger, which would seem to come earlier than predicted as he tripped over a loose rock, "Ouch, oh. Oh, it's that rock that the girl wanted." Couldn't get any easier than that, now could it?

He picked up the rock, surprised that it wasn't heavier with the addition of all the crystals littering the surface of the rock. After taking some time to analyze the unique object, he placed it in his inventory and tossed his last few skipping stones, "Ah, I should do this more often." He thought about back when he and his father used to do these kinds of activities together, "I've really got to work on making a family here, it's just too quiet." He let his shoulders lower and let out a deep sigh, he didn't think it'd be a bad thing not to have a bunch or idiotic goons around to brighten up his day.

He began making his way back into the town, slowly making his way back to Sai's place. It wasn't near his shop so he'd have to do a bit more walking after the quest was said and done, he needed a drink for himself after all, but it was all almost over now. Or so he though as he entered the girl's business, "Oh, you're back already? What wonderful timing, you can come give me a hand!" He was a bit hesitant on helping a NPC, something non-living, "Hurry up now, it'll get too hot!" He would eventually give in and help the girl pull a damn heavy chunk of metal from the forge, "What in the world..."

She explained that she was hoping to get some other crafts done for other players, not that there was any others to be seen, then she mentioned that she could skip ahead and finish his since he was there, "Okay, let's do it." She took the heated metal and began to shape it, then she took the husk that Damon had retrieved and used it to form the hilt itself with a few other materials. She took the diamondback zortoad scales and imbued them into the metal framework of the sword, creating a glimmering effect. Finally, she took the crystallized seafoam stone and placed it on the table before cracking it with a special hammer. It was hollow on the inside with some sort of sugary goo, which she slathered on the sword itself. It glowed and, believe it or not, was her way of enchanting weaponry, "Here you are! Enjoy!" He shrugged his shoulders in surprise and stood up to head out, "Thanks, I guess."
