[SP-F2] Shadowland (Completed)

Recommended Posts

The sudden change from Floor 1 to Floor 2 took Tyger's breath away as she blinked, attempting to take all of the scenery in.

"This place is crazy!"

She smiled, looking around at the grasslands. If she started to travel west, she'd find the savanna she'd heard about, and the wasteland she'd heard people speaking about being dangerous. She'd avoid that for now. To the south was a tall mountain, where she heard something about cliffs and a tree. her focus would be more towards the grasslands, where she'd heard about the Ox-monsters.

"Baldur visted here earlier, so we'll see how I fare!"

The first thing, aside from the landscape, she noticed was the change in music. It filled her heart and chest, rolling around in there like a musician heartbeat. She loved music, and played multiple instruments in real life. However, she didn't want to be a musician in this game. She was too shy, and preferred to be in an ensemble.

So far, so good. Nothing had jumped out at her just yet, so she was keeping her eyes open until she heard a loud snort. Before she could truly react, a large bovine creature with an axe jumped from some of the deeper, taller grass. The <<Taurus Striker>> let out a loud cry before it locked eyes with Tyger.

Tiger's Fang was in Tyger's hand in a flash. She charged forward, the Striker's name standing out red against the green grasses. Her sword left an orange slash across the creature's chest, and the striker swung his axe. Tyger stepped back, and missed the attack.

The creature was much larger than her, which made Tyger worry, but only slightly. Size usually meant that they were stronger, or had more HP. That couldn't always be the case though, or games would be far too predictable.

"Alright, you creepy cow. Let's get rid of you for good."

She hissed, jumping forward to slash at the creature again. A familiar surge of power coursed through her, and as the orange streak grew across the chest of her foe, it exploded into the shards of light she'd grown accustomed to. The shards still looked the same as when you killed something on the first floor. She wasn't sure why she expected it to be different, but oh well.

A second striker was coming through the grass, eyes burning holes into her clothing. With the fall of it's comrade, Tyger knew she'd be dealing with an angry creature indeed. She tried to wade through the grass to head it off, maybe even getting a quick slash in. However, she wasn't accustomed to this floor, and missed her swipe. The creature returned a slash in full, knocking Tyger a few feet back. The player gritted her teeth and snarled, ready for the fight to begin.

Now that it had lost the element of surprise, the Striker made itself look as threatening as possible. It snorted, blowing air out of it's nostrils as it stared down Tyger. She'd only lost one HP, so she wasn't nervous just yet. Instead, she wanted to answer this blow with a blow. Tiger's Fang charged orange as she ran forward, slashing at the legs of the creature in front of her. It let out a cry of pain, and moved forward to retaliate, having to catch itself with a hand to not fall on the ground from the leg wound.

"Hmph. That's what I thought."

Once the creature could stand correctly, it wasted no time charging forward, two handed axe in hand. Releasing a bellowing cry, it slashed at Tyger, catching her stomach with a red line. Her vision faltered for a moment, but not before she speared Tiger's Fang through the chest of the creature. She expected it to explode, as the other had, but wasn't met with such a fate. Instead, she pulled her sword out and bounded back a few steps, waiting for round 3. This one hurt more than the other had, but it could have been that she was lucky her first match. She didn't want to underestimate this floor.

What should have ended this turn turned out to be a bit more painful than expected. She readied Tiger's Fang for a retaliation, but when she went to attack, her swing was too wide and missed. Seeing it's opportunity, the creature bounded forward, cutting into her virtual skin with the sharp teeth of his axe. Tyger felt like she'd been doused with cold water, and gasped, stepping back weakly. The monster must've gotten a critical, like she had earlier with the first one. Karma, thou art a jerk.

Luck wasn't on her side this battle. Flashbacks to the long boar fight filled her mind as she evaluated her options. This was only her second fight with this stupid floor, and she was already considering going downstairs to make sure she would be safe when she gathered materials, or searched for loot.

"Not my fight today, is it?"

She told the creature casually, attempting to catch it off guard and slice at it's legs again. However, it picked up on her deception, and dodged, bringing down it's axe once more. It pierced her back, but didn't take as much HP as before. Thank goodness for no crits. Although, Tyger wouldn't complain if she got one.

Tyger's health bar made her nervous, so eradicating the enemy was the priority before running. If she lost much more health, she'd be out of here in a heartbeat, no questions asked. She wasn't far from where she'd teleported in, so it was merely a small trek back to the first floor. She could go home to her forge, heal up, see about crafting, and go from there. However, it wasn't necessary for now, at least.

The power surged through her, and Tyger knew she'd be fine. The beast, however, wasn't about to go down without a fight. It swung it's axe, taking advantage of her tired state, but missed as Tyger dashed under the swing, jamming Tiger's Fang into the midsection of the bovine. It let out a cry, but was cut off mid-bellow as it exploded into the crystals. The mini menu came up, informing her of another item drop.

"Perfect!"

Wary of engaging with anymore of those mobs, Tyger spun on her heel and decided to try and search for mats instead. She'd seen a few players digging around, or trying to find the fibers needed for cloth, or whatever else. It was calmer than fighting, and she'd be able to nibble on some of her bread as she did it. It tasted fine, if you could truly taste anything.

"Guess I can't really do anything about that, can I?"

She mused to herself, walking around some of the edges of the plains. It'd be easy to dig there. However, with her first attempt, the ore was practically useless.

The unusable ore was a saddening sight, but Tyger was determined to keep up with the search. There weren't any mobs, as far as her eyes could see. Thankfully, she had a bit of time to herself before something would spring up out of the woodwork and fight her. Her next dig spot would prove more fruitful. The glittering ore practically smiled back at her as she dug it up. It was silver in color, and would quite possibly (assuming Tyger didn't mess up her crafting) make a fantastic item. She liked the shine, despite it being dirty.

"Nice! Jackpot."

Dusting off the dirt and whatever else was on it, she put it in her bag and started to spot her next dig site.

"Dig a tunnel, dig dig a tunnel.."

Tyger hummed to herself, remembering her favorite movie franchise as she dug around in the dirt. Her previous find had been lucky, so maybe this one would too? Once again, a bit more silver started smiling at her through the dirt. Well, not actually smiling, but you get the idea.

"Seriously? Again?! Awesome!"

Tyger unearthed the ore, pure and strong. The material was quickly harvested into her bag as she began to look elsewhere.

Her bag was being fed materials, which made the owner of the bag happy. Her next site was a bit tougher when it came to the dirt, so it took her longer to dig down. After a little bit of time, she began to get discouraged before a twinge of gold caught her eye after the shovel had moved.

"You've GOT to be kidding me!"

The next harvested ore was golden, so she imagined all the things she could make with it as she labored to unearth it. Golden shields, maybe a helmet? Or a small bangle just for keeps. Either way, it was hers now, and she was feeling mighty lucky.

"I think I made the right decision, taking it easy for now."

She grinned to herself, sticking the material in her bag.

On her material high, Tyger chose a spot close to where she'd found the previous material. It was tough to dig, but the promise of another material kept her going despite the fact.

"I've been lucky so far, there's no reason to not think so now!"

However, she got to the same depth as earlier, and there hadn't been a sight of anything. No flashes of color, no unearthened material.

"Aww, maaaaan...."

She sighed, standing up and dusting the knees of her pants off.

"Oh well. There's always more spots to check."

Fate wouldn't be smiling back down on Tyger as she rooted around in the dirt for more ore. The shovel was useful, but sometimes these spots needed a bit more concentration and detail. Once she thought she'd found an ore, she dropped the hand shovel and began to use her hands to try and pull it out, or work the dirt around it. The last thing she wanted to do was break it, after all.

"It figures, i'd be on such a good streak, too."

She murmured, fingers dirty and cold from all of the dirt around here. There had to be quite a few holes she'd created just to try and search for some more mats. She'd need to go back to her forge soon. Who knows what'd she create once she got there? She wanted to put that golden ore to good use. Oh well. She still had some time, keep looking!

The dirt wasn't working. The last few attempts to find anything had just ended horridly. Her hands hurt, and her palms were scratchy from the shovel she'd been using. Perhaps going back to that softer dirt she'd found at the edge of the grasslands?

"If anything, it'll save time. If I can't find anything, it would still take me less time, instead of toiling away in the harder earth."

So, when her search came up with nothing, she wasn't as upset.

"If I stayed over there, I wouldn't know I hadn't found anything for another few minutes or so. At least i'm saving myself some time this way."

To be fair, she wanted that material streak to come back, but it was alright. She'd survive.

The satisfying 'ding' of a level up was interrupted by a terrible sound. A deep, growl resounded from behind her, and Tyger had just enough time as she picked herself up off the ground to roll forward, dodging the jumping worm as it made it's sneak attack.

"Whoah! What a worm!"

She hissed, surprised at it's size and appearance. It looked insulted at all the holes she'd dug, and it wasn't about to let her insolence go unanswered. The thought of bugs in the real world made Tyger's skin crawl, and there was no difference here. She needed to kill it, and kill it quick.

"Oh god it's so gross, oh man..."

She practically whimpered as she charged forward, slicing at it's thick body.

The sickening worm, covered in nasty worm slime and whatever else worms secreted reared the head (or what Tyger assumed was it's head) for another attack.

She hadn't expected something so ugly, and noodly, would be so quick.

Before she could react, the worm had already lashed out and hit her, causing her HP to fall a bit. She hadn't been expecting it, so coming from something she feared wasn't necessarily a pleasant experience. She could retaliate though, so she most definitely did.

"Die, please!"

She shuddered as she approached the beast, slicing at it with the orange charged blade. It let out a sound (from what she wasn't sure) and proceeded to slink away from her, ready for the last bit of fighting before one of them fell.

It was almost the same predicament from earlier. When she was fighting the Bovine warrior, what were they called... Taurus Strikers! When she'd fought the second one, it had gotten away with 1 HP for far too many turns. It was almost ironically unfortunate, the way fate had stepped on her toes. When the worm went to attack, the sheer hate of bugs probably moved her feet quicker than normal, avoiding the attack, but just barely.

"Man, this does not need to be a long fight. I'm probably going to cry, and it's just NOT going to be pretty."

She whined, totally uncharacteristic of her. Bugs were evil. Her attempt to smite said evil was in vain, for alas, her attack had missed. Her greatest help was her greatest curse. She had to get close to the bug to kill said bug, and that wasn't going to happen easily. She had to call Baldur in the real world, just to kill an incredibly small spider. It was almost comical. This was almost no different. If the bug had happened to be a spider, Tyger would have just fled. No questions asked.

This was it. Now or never. She wouldn't be able to get back to her forge, or back to the first floor, or even back to Baldur if she couldn't face her fear and destroy this creature that needed a good smiting. With a roar, before the worm could attack, she charged forward once more, stabbing her sword into it's tail. It must've been enough to kill it, despite it being in the tail, because the monster erupted into the shining shards. After a few seconds, the player could breathe easy. It was gone. She was safe. There wasn't another bug in sight, and she could head back home with all the mats and what-not she'd collected. Overall, a good productive day. Besides, nobody'd been around to see her whine. Baldur wouldn't ever let her live it down had she been here. She was kinda glad they'd chosen to train apart today, if only for that reason.

"There will be a day when the bugs will bother me... but it is not this day."

She said dramatically, narrowing her eyes at the horizon, almost daring another bug to show it's face. Good. Stay away.
