[SP-F1] Mats come Hither (Completed)

Recommended Posts

Tyger stepped from the Safe Zone into the wilds of the first floor. She'd become familiar with it, having her shop here and spending so much time in the Town of Beginnings, but it was almost refreshing to be outside of her shop and ready to tangle with a few mobs. The boars she passed reminded her of her first day, and the wolves were too easy. As she headed deeper into the depths of the first floor, her fingers began to itch. She was ready for a fight, and ready to get some materials to help with her store. The quest she'd taken before was allowed to be taken again for more mats. Having hit rock bottom, there was no reason to not to. Find as many mats as possible, and then get more? Yes please. That accept was very quick.

A large brindled wolf caught her attention. It had enough HP to put up a fight, and it would probably drop something decent, no? Immediately, she engaged in combat, slicing at the wolf. Her orange streak zipped across the body of the canine, but not damaging it enough for a one hit KO. The creature let out a snarl, and jumped to bite at her arm. It was met with a shield to the face. It was exhiliaring to be back in battle, and almost refreshing to be alone. She loved Baldur, but she wanted to see how far she could test the limits by herself. So far, so good.

Tyger circled around in a wide arc, watching the wolf with cool, calm eyes. The light reflected off her glasses, with probably gave the wolf a bit of problems. If he couldn't see her eyes, how would he know where she was going to move, before she did it? The canine was in a bad spot, and it was only going to get worse. Tiberius Surge was a strong weapon, and Tyger wielded it well. As she 'charged' up her sword, it glew with a static, orange power. Energy pulsed through her, and she narrowed her eyes at the target before her. The wolf had nowhere to go, but still held it's ground as best it could. So, when Tyger ran forward, the wolf had no choice but to do so as well. Tiberius surge left it's orange streak across the flank of the animal, and before the wolf's jaws could close on her arm, it exploded into brilliant, bright shards.

"I'm digging this new gear."

She mused to herself, collecting her winnings.

With the wolf gone, Tyger spun on her heel and did a 360 spin slowly, taking this end of the floor into sight. Before, she'd barely ventured past the wolves. The Kobolds in the little hut where they'd found treasure was a scary experience at the time, but now Tyger knew she could probably take them on by herself at this point. Not that she'd risk it, of course. However, materials were what she was here for, nothing more. No time to reminisce, right? The plains were always hard to find materials, so you had to know where to look. Using holes dug prior was a good example of such findings. If there was an area with a lot of holes, one could consider two things. A lot of people were here searching, before giving up, or one person dug a lot of holes. Why? Because they were finding things. Tyger knew the frustration of having to deal with digging the hole and not finding any ore. So, of course, she'd start here. Hopefully the prior digger didn't find -everything-. Her hands pulled up the grass where she'd dig, and she used her tools to search for a material of any kind. Luckily, on her first dig, she found a material. There was a secret prayer at this point, one of hope that the trip would be as fruitful as it was currently.

A similar scene was about to play out.

Tyger had once found herself in the clutches of danger while material hunting. As she was digging, a leopard pounced on her back, landing a critical and rendering her useless. It was unfortunate, but Tyger managed to escape. The scene seemed to flashback once the large wolf, brindled in color, tackled her from behind, fangs attempting to sink into the back of her neck for a killing blow.

"Uumph!"

Tyger's chest hit the ground with a clatter, and her shovel skidded out of reach. The only thing she could do was reach her sword. While fighting the leopard, she'd missed her back swings, merely slapping the leopard with the flat of her sword. This time she wouldn't make that mistake again. The similar orange charge formed around her sword as she rolled and sliced into the wolf, causing a considerable amount of damage. She lifted her lip into a snarl, attempting to intimidate the canine. It didn't work, but it made Tyger feel better at least.

"I was crafting, you mutt. You realize how much faster it is digging for materials than it is fighting dumb mobs like you, eh?"

The wolf, apparently insulted, let out a howl, as if calling it's friends. Tyger gritted her teeth and jumped forward, ready to silence the wolf before it could bring any more mobs here. She'd been thinking earlier how she could definitely take the Kobolds on in a fight, but that didn't mean she wanted to risk it. Tiberius Surge would put a stop to this. Unless she missed, which was what happened. The Wolf stepped nimbly to the side, as if learning from watching Tyger's past battles, and bit at her ankle to try and throw her off balance. It didn't work, but it did damage, which wasn't too bad. Right now though, it was just a matter of time.

"You realize in one hit, you're gone right?"

Tyger taunted.

Shield in hand, Tyger ran forward, preparing to strike the wolf once more. It jumped to the side, but Tyger anticipated it, and swung her shield in that direct, stunning and causing damage to the wolf. Two birds with one stone as never a bad thing. Tiberius Surge's swing followed next, leaving the familiar orange line just before the mobsplosion. The crystals of the defeated wolf rose into the air, leaving Tyger's spoils for her to pick up.

"As I said, really digging this gear."

Her luck was certainly going well for her. If she split up the hunting for material, and the mob hunting, perhaps she'd get a good load out of this after all! She picked up the items the Wolf dropped, and prepared herself for another ambush. Didn't the wolf call for friends?

Whatever howl the wolf had used must've been some sort of attack. Howl of Reinforcements, maybe? Something dorky like that. It wouldn't do her any good to start rooting around for materials right now. The last thing she wanted was to get sideshowed by a pack of wolves. True to her instinct, two wolves began to materialize in the place of the fallen one. Howl of the Hydra started to sound more accurate now as the Wolves came into full program, snarling and licking their jowls hungrily. Without a moment's hesitation, Tyger singled out the one on the right, a black and white wolf. In the real world, she would have killed to have an animal as beautiful as it. But, this wasn't the case. Using her shield as an opener, Tyger slammed it into the wolf for the shock factor before slicing down the Wolf's flank. The orange line stuck out against the wolf's pelt coloring. Almost immediately, the other wolf, a mousy brown creature, bit at her ankle, causing a bit of damage, but nothing much. The damaged wolf turned to retaliate, but shrunk back when Tyger pushed the shield toward it in an intimidating manner. No attack from it just yet.

The wolf duo barked angrily, pressing forward before circling around, attempting to flank the lone player. Tyger kept her shield facing one, and her sword the other. Prioritizing the hurt wolf would get it out of the fight faster, and possibly even win her the fight with minimum damage. With the wolves separated, their communication and body language would be blocked by the girl and her large shield. If she could dodge their jumps, she'd be free to hit one of them. A twig snapped to her right, causing her head to dart towards the damaged wolf. With this distraction, Mousy Brown wolf jumped, aiming for Tyger's arm. Tyger clipped it with the shield, and managed to back up quick enough without tripping over Mousy in the process. Because of this, damaged wolf missed. However, the opportunity to attack had been missed. No ground was gained from either party this round, but Tyger hoped to change that soon.

Both wolves stared at her from across their little battle circle, angry as she was with the lack of ground last turn gained them. Injured wolf, the black and white one, nursed a paw when he ran, which means he'd veer to that side if she attacked him. That'd leave herself open to an attack from Mosey, but there wasn't much she could do. Her armor could handle it, so she wasn't as worried just yet. Letting out a yell, Tyger charged her sword. The same crackling power that let her know of critical hits zapped around the blade, so taking out the black and white wolf was the best route to go. In one hit, she could take it out, or half the HP of the other wolf. Making the decision, Tyger jumped to the side, faking out the hurt wolf before slicing up with her sword. The wolf exploded instantly, but it's wolf buddy didn't get to take revenge. The wolf jumped at her as she turned, so she used the momentum of the jump to swing her shield, batting the canine away. She had to think quick, maybe she could get a hit on the wolf in this close combat.

There was no stare down.

No circling like sharks to try and find openings or weaknesses.

Instead, there was just combat. Tyger, from her crouched position after flinging the wolf off of her, kept her shield in front of her until the last possible moment, readying her sword to skewer the wolf as it jumped to her. With a battle cry, Tyger moved her shield and shot forward, preparing to skewer a wolf that... wasn't there. Wasn't there? A quick falter caused Tyger to turn, completely losing her battle stance. The wolf, stalking behind her, moved silently as it crept up on the confused player. However, Tyger's eyes met the Wolf in just enough time to dodge the attack without a second to lose. Her teeth gritted bitterly. Smart wolf... She cursed in her brain, staring at the creature angrily. At least they'd both missed, eh?

Celebration happened too soon. Tyger reveled in the fact the wolf had missed, but had forgotten to raise her shield. In a burst of speed, the wolf turned a 180 and jumped back at her. Claws raked down her face, the only unexposed part after she'd raised her shield a few seconds too late. The shield did clip the creature though, and it let out a yip of pain as it was sent into the air and back a yard or two from the force. The feline head on the shield provided a good bit of damage, even if Tyger didn't manage a hit. Her attempt to retaliate had her chase after the canine, but to no avail. It dodged her attack, and wheeled around, snarling angrily.

"Yeah I feel you, I want this over too..."

She agreed, wiping her forehead.

Cutting to the chase was Tyger's style, so she didn't waste any time attempting to carve a smiley face into the wolf staring her down. Her sword glew, and a critical was on it's way. When she struck the wolf, it let out a howl of pain, but thankfully not one of the Hydra howls she'd heard earlier. If that were the case, two more would take the place of each wolf here, and there'd be four. No thanks! Satisfied with the damage she'd inflicted, Tyger didn't rush to get away from the wolf. It was a mistake, to be sure. The canine rounded around, biting her hand in the wolf-equivalent of a critical. In the real world, it could have taken her hand off. But here, she could imagine that it could've broken the wolf's teeth with how much armor she had on. Her eyes narrowed as she tore her hand back to herself, clearly annoyed.

What should have been an easy match was going horribly, horribly wrong. Tyger had never been this low on HP, despite the fact that she'd barely lost any. It was frustrating, and the heaving mass of fur in front of her needed to die so she could keep looking for materials. Yeah, the wolf would drop one, but looking at the Sun.. she'd already lost a bit of time in this game. This was a waste, and even as the wolf and player clashed, both missed their blows.

"UGH Just let me kill you please?"

Tyger hissed angrily, ready to pull her out.

"You don't have a chance, I just need one more hit to get rid of you..."

She bet she wouldn't even get a good loot drop, knowing her luck. How had the luck changed so much?!

Tyger tried a sneaky, quick attack, but the wolf dodged by a snout. There went yet another turn Tyger could have used for killing this stupid mutt. How long had they been fighting? This seemed unrealistic, even for this stupid video game. The wolf seemed to be mocking her with it's eyes. It came to attack her in a mousy brown flash, and even though it did some damage, the blocking damage from Tyger's shield killed it. The wolf exploded, and Tyger fell to the ground on her butt from shock. She glanced at her shield with surprise, and then hugged it, contemplating giving it a kiss for ending this stupid battle for her. She was frustrated and tired, and ready for that battle to end.

"I'm so glad I crafted you."

When she rose to her feet, she sighed and started walking back to her digging site.

When she arrived back to the digging site, the holes that had once been there were filled up. Good thing she remembered the general area, eh? Her head turned over her shoulder to look back where she'd fought the wolves. She must've been there a while, if the holes had honestly filled themselves up in a form of 'ground respawn.' It could have been the time when the other player came by. It could have been a few hours, and then the holes filled back up. She didn't think about that. Either way, she got on her hands and knees, shield placed strategically on her back. She'd learned enough of that for sure! Her shovel dug into the earth until she'd formed a nice decent hole. On the last thrust of the shovel, there was a slight ping noise. Using her hands, Tyger pulled out the material - an ore. Thank goodness! Back on track.

Usually she'd be interrupted at this point by some sort of ravenous, blood thirsty creature. The only thing close was another wolf, and it kept looking her way. It was larger than the previous wolves, and caused her to drop her shovel and go try and get some precious loot. As she entered the aggro zone, the beast immediately ran towards her, as if anticipating her fight. Tyger rolled to the side, using her shield to protect her knees from hitting the ground. The wolf turned it's head to be met with a slicing orange line down it's face. The large black wolf snorted, shaking it's head as if shaking water off of it's body. With the first round over, Tyger watched the beast with curiosity. It was large enough to ride, was there any way to tame it? How awesome would it be to have a dog? It was unfortunate. Well, the beast was large, maybe she'd get some good loot from it.

Tyger could just imagine it now. Riding into a boss battle on the back of such a large, powerful wolf. Obviously, it couldn't happen, but still. She could dream, right? Obviously the wolf would have to agree, and by the way it was glaring and growling at her, that probably wasn't about to happen. She watched the wolf's tail lash angrily before it ran towards her before she jumped forward to meet it halfway. Using her shield to stop the blow from the wolf, she sliced at the canine yet again, causing it to grunt, but not cry out. It was a proud, strong wolf, probably an alpha of some little pack in it's mind. Tyger gave it a respectful head nod before swinging her sword to the side, ridding it of any fur and grass that it might have picked up. The wolf merely stared, preparing itself for it's next attack.

The wolf was the first one to make a move this time, which Tyger admired. The large wolf reminded her of a dog in one of her favorite book series, although the dog wasn't a wolf and was named Mouse, of all things. Either way, she prepared to intercept his attack, sword ready to try and inflict damage. The creature rocketed towards her, and she held her shield up, pushing against the wolf's face to avoid getting bit. However, when she went to attack, the wolf's back legs kicked at her hands, knocking Tiberius Surge from her hand. If only her sword had nicked the wolf, this would probably be over. Still, the ingenuity of the wolf made Tyger smile. She'd come across a smart mob, and it made her smile with it's competence.

"You're not as annoying or boring to fight as those other wolves."

Granted, if this battle went as long as some of the other ones, she'd start whistling a different tune.

Tyger wanted to make the first move this time. Her sword was at the ready, as was her shield. She moved her leg to run forward, and the wolf caught the same idea, charging forward faster than Tyger would ever be able to. Her sword would kill it for sure, if her shield didn't get to it first. The furred frenzy passed by her shield as it was pulled to Tyger's body at the same time Tyger's sword sliced it's back leg. It was hard to say what actually killed the large beast, but it exploded into the bright shards customary when you defeat a monster. Tyger held the post for a few extra seconds before she felt herself relax. The materials and Col dropped opened a menu and she accepted it all and walked back silently to her digging space.

Thinking about having some sort of animal with her, even if it was something small, like her sugar glider Icarus, made her miss home. She dug absentmindedly at the ground, not really finding anything but not really caring. She dug again, and just didn't find anything there either. Her mind was too preoccupied with the longing of an animal companion. Yeah, she had Baldur, but she couldn't baby talk Baldur and play with Baldur's cheeks and ride Baldur into battle like a majestic direwolf. The mental image was amusing to her, at least. She sat down her shovel and just soaked up the first floor, thinking to herself. Didn't they have beast tamers in this game? Couldn't she just get a beast character and keep it with her? She'd like that. Maybe she'd go home and check her manual after this. For now, materials needed to be found.
