SP~F1 Solo Butler (Complete)

Recommended Posts

Piers sighed, arming sword over one shoulder, while his free hand remained shoved deep into a pocket in his pants. So far life had been rather interesting since he awoke from his year-long coma. Why wouldn't it be? This was a fantasy video game after all. Though there was a problem: he had yet to find Nyle. There was a possibility the boy would never be found. Nyle could be on his own. Or dead. God knows with his attitude and age. Piers shook his head to rid of the dreaded thoughts. Nyle was the one person that saved him, and the one person he called a friend despite the boy being his master. They had a friendship like no other. Hope still existed inside Piers and that's what he lived on everyday, the reason why he even got up instead of giving up and succumbing to the game. The butler would rather burn in Hell than lose everything that made his life... his life. Made it worth living, that is.

He stood near the edge of town where all the hustle and bustle began dying down. This was where the line between and a safe city and dangerous fields began. Piers squinted as a ray from the sun shone in his eyes, the glare on his glasses making it impossible to see his emerald orbs behind the lens'. A gust of wind blew and the raven haired butler simply ignored the bangs rustling about in front of his face. He shifted his position and shoved the tip of the sword in the ground, placing the other hand on his hip. Some players that passed by looked in his direction and continued, used to the scene. Some giggled and whispered about Piers whether it be about his "good looks" or how the butler appeared to be a weirdo. Then there were the choice few that felt scared and off from his presence.

The butler took his arming sword and spun in around a few times before shoving the weapon into the holster on his waist. Piers began his "journey" to wherever his feet would take him. For now he needed a break. An opportunity to clear his mind. Hopefully he wouldn't die, that wouldn't please Nyle at all. Not at all.

His first steps alone, that's what it seemed like. This was in fact the first time he'd ventured alone with someone tagging along. Well if you didn't count the time he found the tall tower and a "princess" residing inside. There'd be no one found or coming along or back with Piers, no, he needed to do this alone and alone only. Fear wasn't really an issue, or so Piers thought. Deep, deep, deep down inside it was there making its way through his veins.

One boar, that's all he really wanted. Or any animal for the matter. Anger was the first emotion that always corrupted him, so that was what he was going to show obviously. This wasn't like real life where he could beat down anybody he wanted. High levels meant power and right now Piers was at a low level. No fighting for him. That would be like asking for a death sentence. With another sigh Piers lifted his gaze from the scenery in the sky to out in front of him. He spotted a few animals roaming so that meant he could choose as he pleased. Without hesitating Piers rushed towards a random boar prepared for a battle.

Boar (Target) = 5 HP

Piers = 9 HP

The butler grabbed the weapon from its holster while running towards the unsuspecting boar. It had no chance to jump back or avoid the attack at all. Piers swung at the boar with one arm upwards, making a slanted but perfect swing and hit.

"Hyuh!"

Piers grunted while swinging aggressively. It felt good to fight once again freely with no other player around. Very quickly, once in combat mode, his eyes changed into a deep shade of glimmering crimson. His heart pumped widely and all feelings fled, for now at least, the butler could find himself at peace for as long as this lasted.

After swinging, Piers halted his sprint and turned on one foot, the other planting into the ground as his eyes met the enemy again. The butler straightened his position and held his sword straight out at the boar. It grunted at him and prepared itself for an attack in which Piers was ready. When the boar rushed at him he pivoted to the side causing the monster to run right past the butler. Piers crouched to the boar's height as it ran by and held the sword out once again but this time to his side. A red mark flashed right through the animal, showing that the cut had went right through the middle. Surprisingly the monster survived the attack but showed signs of dying at any time. Very slowly it turned but it was noticeable that the boar had a burst of energy left, it didn't want to die.

Immediately the boar lunged at Piers who still had his back turned to the monster. He suspected the attack and could sense it as well. In reaction Piers did a back-bend, causing the boar to barely grazed his stomach as it jumped over the bent butler. It landed a few feet in front of him and Piers flipped all the way over in order to get back up on his feet. As soon as he got on his feet Piers swung his sword but didn't realize how far the boar was and missed him by a foot. Sighing, Piers prepared for the final attack the would end the life of the coded mob.

Piers swing again, not wanting to give the boar a chance to attack. Unfortunately the butler tripped over a rock on the ground and fell to his knees. Damn, that was embarrassing. He growled and was honestly glad nobody saw the failure. His sword fell to the side and reached for it but he'd forgotten the boar. The monster took advantage of him and lunged at the butler. Piers got cut on the stomach and rolled over to prevent getting hurt any longer by the boar who continued to relentless attack him.

Once rolled over onto his back, Piers flipped up onto his feet, sword back in his hand. The butler had the perfect chance to attack. He lifted his sword and struck down on the boar's head. The weapon went straight through the head and planed into the ground. For a second, the boar let out a strange cry and widened its eyes but shortly after exploded into crystals and disappeared.

No loot. Piers received a message that indicated the mob hadn't dropped anything so the butler turned and decided to hunt for some things himself. First he placed the arming sword back into its holster before heading off in a different direction, away from where the had encountered the boar. For now he dodged any other monsters, not really in the mood to fight. His crimson eyes searched the ground for anything shiny or odd, hopefully he'd get lucky. Materials were another form of money and searching was much safer but a longer process.

(Piers would qualify for loot because he was Level 3 upon entering, and the monster is half his health. Plus at least 2x the Floor level is the health of the boar)

Again, Piers found nothing. Of course he'd only been walking a few steps already but still it was rather disappointing to see that nothing was available. It did make sense, though, that such a popular floor would be deprived of such valuable resources. His mind traveled to other things such as how long it would take until the first player to reach level 100 could free everyone from this burden. The game. Sure, it was nice. But wasn't nature in real life too? Maybe some people with no lives would enjoy the game but in reality about every player had a family. A family or even loved one they missed. They had something or someone to go back to. What kind of freak would enjoy being stuck in a world that's all codes and not even real? Sure, video games were fun. Exciting. And everyone is equal in games despite level differences. But this wasn't reality. It's fake. Right now their bodies were practically decaying day by day. This isn't living, not even close.

He thought of the servants back at home and their well-being. The Norville manor was attacked often, and of course they could hold their ground, it was the the kids' job after all. To fight. But Vincent was always there to protect them. They were his family. Now they were somewhere else, a world away. A reality away. Hopefully the manor hadn't crumbled just yet.

Another boar. Piers found himself bumping into the mob by accident. It grunted and flashed him an angry glare. With one fluid motion the butler brought out his sword and swung at the monster before it could even attack him. He got a good cut across the nose of the animal.

Boar (Target) = 5 HP

Piers = 8 HP

The mark flashed red and in reaction the boar jumped back a few steps before realizing what was happening. It prepared itself for attack, Piers knew this would happen and swung his sword around expertly between his fingers and smirked.

"Try me."

It seemed this fight would be easy. The boar seemed to be a rather lazy one. Piers jumped, much like his very first boar, on the back of the animal and leaped off of it as the animal rushed towards him. Piers chuckled lowly at how foolish it was, already the boar had lost sight of the butler and frantically searched around for him. With a step forward Piers finished off the animal, cutting its forehead as soon as he turned around. Once again Piers watched crystals fly into the air with his crimson orbs.

This kill around, it seemed Piers had been rather lucky for he received loot for this kill. A message appeared. He had two options and went with the money and extra material instead of a weapon. The one he had now was fine and with enough COL the butler decided he could buy a much better weapon than the one offered at the moment. Upon clicking a button the money and item were added to his inventory and the message closed. Time for more material hunting. Time for more thinking. Time for more hoping, and anger, and so many more emotions the butler simply pushed aside for the time being.

Damn. Material finding is hard, as Piers began realizing again. The system seemed brutal, but then again, he had gotten loot just a minute ago. Piers ventured further and further from the city. If he were to look back now only a blurry scene could be made out. Piers kicked the blades of the grass idly and frowned, stuffing both hands in his pants pockets. The butler stared at the sun for a few moments, a glare messing with his glasses and vision, before turning his head back down. He now focused on the horizon ahead. This was life now. Survive and fight or die and become stuck in a system, trapped forever. Not that he'd have such a glorious after life. Sure, Piers had done great and nice things. Some would even dub him the good guy. But there were so many bad things he'd done. A low chuckle came from the butler as he recalled a phrase of his.

"Heaven? Heaven's a stranger to me."

Boy, those were fun times. Despite all the annoying people around he still managed to be amused. It was easy after all. Even Piers himself became humiliated once and while but looking back on it now it was rather hilarious. He wished while he was out of the game that he'd enjoyed those memories. It was far too late now. Far too late.

While thinking, a flashing object on the ground caught Piers' eyes. He shifted his gaze to the ground and smiled. He had found a material at last. Even if it was just one, at least it was something. Once again his thoughts trailed off track. Now time for another monster. Piers bent down and touched the ore stuck in the ground and a message popped up. He accepted it and added the material to his inventory with a successful smirk on his face.

Snake (Target) = 5 HP

Piers = 8 HP

Piers spotted a snake hiding in a small patch of tall grass with his keen sight. Very slowly he brought out his sword and walked towards the grass. It seemed the snake had noticed him already and jumped from its spot, hissing evilly. The monster was larger than a regular snake, or one you would fine in real life, and a bright orange color. The snake launched itself at him and got a bite in his neck. Ouch. Piers rubbed the spot while it glowed red. With one hand he swung at the snake. Nothing fancy, just a simple swing, and sliced its neck as well.

"Heh, gotch'a."

The butler mumbled before getting in fighting stance.

Once again the snake lunged, almost as soon as Piers sliced its neck. The butler cart-wheeled to the side out of the way. The snake hissed and slithered over to Piers as he finished the move. It attempted to attack his legs but missed and almost got stepped on. Angrily, the snake slithered away but made sure Piers knew the fight wasn't over.

As the snake prepared itself for another attack, Piers attempted to swing at it once again. Unfortunately he missed as the animal got away with a faster speed than he'd originally thought possible. The butler sighed and glared at the snake. His orbs once again flashed crimson, pointed teeth shown because of the devilish smirk plastered onto his face. Piers watched as the snake attacked and performed numerous moves on him, each once skillfully avoided. This enemy was better than most. But it was going to die soon.

"Alright."

Piers huffed and glared at the snake who hissed in return. Damn, that sound was annoying.

"Glad I won't have to hear it after this."

The butler growled and moved to step on the snake. It wasn't fast enough to avoid Piers' attack and got trapped under his dress shoe. The animal struggled to escape his hold but it was impossible to escape Piers once he had a hold on you. The butler brought up his sword and sliced along the head of the snake. It stopped moving and broke into a million different pieces. Those pieces meant success to Piers now.

Yet again Piers had been offered an item or COL and a bonus material. He went with the same option again of course, the butler needed money and materials desperately. For buying things of course or trading, it wasn't like he was going to open a shop anytime soon. Or at all. The popular one's got most attention anyhow and although he was good at many things a shop would feel like an inconvenience. To take care of, that is. Why do at that work when he could be out fighting? Scavenging? Messing around? Some people were born to do things like that but Piers simply could care less and not enjoy the idea of it.

The butler noticed the sky hue turning from a light blue to dark blue, then to a purplish mixed with orange and pink color. Sun set. Indeed the glowing yellow sphere was already low signaling night time was near. Even the moon could already be seen, like a toe nail it rested in the darkening sky, Piers sighed and lifted his glasses so they pushed up his bangs. He rubbed the bridge of his nose and turned on his heel. As much as he wished it wasn't true, it was time to head back for the Starting City. To an inn. To the place he resided everyday.

Not like Piers had much of a choice. Or that he didn't want to live up to the choice. He wanted to find Nyle and become strong for his master as much as he wanted to live throughout the game and kick whoever trapped him in here in the ass like every other player. Hopefully the time would come soon. Piers chuckled at himself and shook his head. What was he thinking? This word called hope had never crossed him before. Not even the feeling. Now it was, and it wasn't welcome but wouldn't leave. Like an annoying guest that had crashed the party. Damn. What was happening to him?
