[SP-F1] Training time (Complete)

Recommended Posts

As Atticus roamed the grasslands of the first floor, he decided that he didn't have anymore time to waist. If he was going to make it on to the frontlines, he was going to have to dedicate himself to training and questing. As he cleared the top of the hill he was climbing he noticed a small boar roaming the plain below. With out hesitation Atticus drew his spear and took off sprinting down the hill towards his prey. As he closed the distance between himself and the boar, concentrating hard on his target, he failed to notice a small rabbit hole on his path. As he continued towards the boar he stepped into the rabbit, lost his footing, and was sent tumbling to the ground. Atticus got up and tried to regain his wits but immediately felt his legs being swept out from under him and a sharp pain in his thigh. As Atticus had charged down the hill he had entered the boars agro range and apon falling had allowed the boar an opportunity to launch an attack. As he was tossed into the air Atticus managed to swing his spear around enough to deeply slice the side of the boar.

As Atticus crashed to the ground he clutched his upper thigh in pain. Struggling to remain calm, he plunged his spear into the earth and managed to haul him self up from the dirt. As he stood there, breath racing, he began to panic. *Would this be the way he met his end?* "No!!" He yelled out. Although in the game he was Atticus Smyth, in the real world he was Sebastion Kennedy. Supior to all others, there was no way he was going to meet his end to a boar on the first floor of this stupid video game. Mustering all the strength he had left he lifted his spear into the air and took a defensive stance. As the boar came barreling towards him he braced himself for the impact. The boar leaped forward and crashed into Atticus head on, stabing his arm with its tusk. Atticus was able to with stand the blow from the boar and in a split second flipped his spear around and thrust it into boars belly impaling him on his spear.

"Damn" he said out loud examining his wounds from the battle. Using his spear as a crutch Atticus was able to make his way over to a tree where he clumsily sat down against it. As he sat there staring off into the distance he could hardly believe that he was inside a game. He knew he didn't have long to rest and would soon have to get moving again, so he took a minute to consider his options. He could continue on with his training, but after examining his wounds he didn't feel the risk would be worth it. No, he would have to make his way back to town and allow time for his wounds to heal although this would mean losing another day. With out wanting to waste anymore time, and not wanting to risk getting blind sighted by a mob or even worse a pk'er. Atticus once again hulled himself up from the dirt and set off back to town.

Atticus got out of bed the next day feeling rested and recovered. Not wanting to waste any time, he grabbed his spear from the corner of the room, slung it over his back and headed into the streets. As he strolled through the streets making his way towards the exit to the city, he admired the many shops and vendors he passed on the way, even stopping for a moment at the blacksmiths to admire a selection of powerful looking war spears and halberds. He brought up his menu and checked his Col, Zero. Finding it pointless to spend anymore time staring at equipment he couldn't afford, he continued on walking until he got to the exit of the city.

Finally back out in the grasslands, Atticus once again began looking for mobs to hunt. It didn't take long for him to come across a wasp buzzing about the grasslands. "Finally, something other then a boar" he said to himself. Not wasting anytime, he grabbed his spear off his back and lunged full force at the giant wasp, managing to drive the spear straight through the beast and avoiding the stinger at the same time.

His confidence high from his victory over the giant wasp, Atticus continued on his way entering the agro range of another giant wasp. As he prepared himself for his attack, he suddenly felt a stinger pierce his back. Off gaurd and unaware, Atticus has wondered into the agro range of more then one wasp and had allowed one to attack him unaware from behind. Almost in unbearable pain, Atticus swung around an attempted to launch a counter attack on the beast. Do to the pain and surpise of the situation however, he lost his balance and ended up crashing to the dirt.

In fear for his life, and aware that the original wasp he was targeting would be bearing down on him at any minute, Atticus scrambled to his feet and took off running back towards town. Atticus had never been much for running from a fight, and even looked down on himself now for running away. But this was to much for him, trapped in this death game, unable to best even the simplest of beasts. For the first time in his life Atticus actually began to doubt his own abilities. "No!" He thought to him self. He would conquer this game, he just needed more time and training. As Atticus continued to sprint ahead fearing for his life, he wasn't sure how far the wasps would actually follow him. Seeing the gates to the city a short way in front of him Atticus sprinted all the way into town, until he arrived safely in the town center.

As Atticus stood there hands on his knees, gasping to catch his breath, Atticus yet again felt discouraged by his progress. For the first time in his life he was meeting a problem that money or his family name couldn't solve. After several long moments Atticus was finally able to catch his breath, standing up straight he looked around in an attempt to get his bearing. Realizing where he was, Atticus decided it would be best to take the rest of the day off and get some rest so he began walking towards the inn. Upon arrival Atticus headed up to his room and laid down in his bed choosing to put anything he had left to do off till the next day.

Atticus awoke that morning to a large commotion outside his window. As he laid there trying to ignore it he couldn't help but be curious about what was going on outside. After a few more minutes Atticus decided that he could no longer stand it and heaved himself out of bed and walked over to the window. Down below on the street there was a large group of 12-15 players, all dressed in Crimson red and appeared to be preparing for battle. "A guild boss run" he thought to himself, Atticus looked over to the corner of the room where his basic spear sat leaning against the wall. "If only I had the proper equipment and experience, I could be leading that raid." Atticus thought back to the day before when he was sent running from the woods by a mere wasp. This game was nothing like Atticus had ever experienced before. In the real world as Sebastion Kennady, he never encountered a problem his wealth or power couldn't overcome. In here however, it was a true test of skill and fortitude. This thought didn't phase Atticus however, Atticus knew he was supior and perfectly capable of clearing this game, it was just going to be more of a challenege then he had originally thought. Atticus thought long and hard about where he should go from here and finally came to the conclusion that the only choice he had was to continue his training in the grasslands. Although his first two attempts hadn't gone as smooth as he would of liked, he was determined that his next venture out would go better, and besides "Third time is the charm, right" he thought to himself.

As Atticus finished dressing and slung his spear on to his back he noticed a flashing light in his hud. As he open up his menu a message popped up. "Level Up!" During all the commotion in the grasslands the day before, Atticus hadn't even taken notice of the fact that he had leveled up. To most people lvl 2 wouldn't be much of an accomplishment, but after his defeat in the woods, this was an inspiring moral victory for Atticus. His spirits further raised, Atticus once again left to head into the grasslands.

Without any hesitation Atticus headed towards the same spot he found the wasps the day prior. As he approached from a distance he once again spotted the wasp in the same spawn location. Learning from his past mistakes, Atticus carefully scanned the area for another mob to ensure there wouldn't be any more surprises in the middle of combat. Assured that the cost was clear, Atticus drew his spear and began his assault upon the wasp. Misjudging the distance between him and the wasp, Atticus leaped into the air plunging his spear towards the wasp only to embarrassingly land several feet short of the wasp. As Atticus stood there stunned, the wasp darted forward and stung him with its stinger.

As Atticus attempted to steady himself, the wasp once again circled around him and this time drove its stinger deep into his side. Struggling to withstand the blow, panic once again started to set in and thoughts of fleeing began to cross his mind. "No!" Atticus told himself, "not this time." With frightful determination he drove his spear up into the wasps abdomen completely impaling the beast. As the mob disapeared from his spear, relief began to set in as he holstered his spear.

Exhilarated from the battle Atticus set off in search of more mobs to hunt. Wanting to change up his surroundings he decided to head off into the woods, a place he had not ventured to yet. Entering the woods, Atticus admired his surroundings, it was amazing the realism the game provided he thought to himself. As he continued into the woods it became increasingly darker do to the dense canopy, until he came to a clearing that is.

As Atticus entered the clearing he felt the beams of sunlight breaking through the forest canopy and warming his skin. Deciding this was a nice place to stop and take a rest. Atticus set his spear to the side and slumped down against a tree. He sat there for a long time taking in the sights and sounds of the forest and for a moment managed to forget the tragedy that is SAO. Giving himself a break from thinking about the game, Atticus's mind began to wonder onto thoughts of his family. Atticus had never had a close relationship with his parents and usually never minded that they were always gone on business. Being trapped in this game had changed that, at this point he would give almost anything to be with them. Atticus wondered if his parents where there at his side in the real world, or if they would stay at his side and put off their trips until he was able to escape from this nightmare. Atticus allowed his mind continue to wonder from thoughts of his family to child hood memories until he eventually drifted off to sleep.

Atticus awoke several hours later to the pitch black of night. As he quickly scrambled to his feet he immediately knew he had messed up big time. Looking around and trying to get his bearing Atticus found it nearly impossible to pinpoint the direction back to town in the dark. To make matters worse the calming sounds of the forest had been replaced with the sounds of terrifying night time predators skulking around the forest. Making the determination that it was to dangerous to stay where he was, Atticus set out in the direction he believed to be the closest to the one that brought him here.

As Atticus began his frantic hike trying to find his was back to town, he couldn't shake the feeling that he was being stalked. Constantly looking over his shoulder as he continued trying to traverse his way through the woods. Atticus's mind began to wonder "did it take this long to get here", "how would I even know if I'm going the wrong way?" Minutes felt like hours as he pressed forward still not sure where exactly he was heading. Finally no longer able to ignore the fact that he was being followed, Atticus stopped and scanned the area around him stopping on a pair of dark red eyes staring at him out of the shadows.

As Atticus maintained a visual on the set of eyes, a strange feeling came over him. Slowly his fear faded away and was replaced with an almost unsettling calm, unholstering his spear, Atticus felt like he had ice running through his veins. Unlike the encounter with the wasps in the grasslands the day prior, Atticus knew there was no chance of escape from this encounter. He would either emerge from this fight victorious, or die right here and now in the woods. This didn't scare Atticus however, in ernest it made him feel alive. This game had taken him out of his comfort zone and filled him with self doubt, but backed into a corner Atticus was finally reminded of who he was. At that moment Atticus made a vow to himself, no matter what the circumstances he would no longer allow fear to guide his hand, from this point on anything that stood in his way he would destroy or die trying.

Electrified with adrenaline, Atticus began stepping forward towards the shadows in an attempt to draw the beast out. Now only a few feat away, whatever was in the shadows lunged forward in an attempted attack. Anticipating this move, Atticus quickly side stepped the attack and in the process swung his spear around in time to plung it into the beats side.

Now in the light, the mysterious beast turned out to be an abnormally large wolf. Not allowing himself to be distracted by the thought of what a high level mob like this was doing on the first floor, Atticus prepared for his next attack. As atticus studied the wolf, he felt like he could almost anticipate its next move. As the wolf once again lunged forward, Atticus swung his spear around on a horizontal plane slamming it into the beasts side, and tossing it into the ground.

Standing over the beast, Atticus lifted his spear into the air and violently drove it into the wolfs head. With this final move Atticus not only defeated the wolf but his own fear. Staying true to the vow he made to himself before the battle, Atticus had stood his ground and managed to defeat the strongest mob he had yet to in counter and by doing so returned him to his former self. He was no longer afraid of the game, instead he felt supior to it and it's players. From this point on nothing would stand in his way.

As Atticus holstered his spear, he saw the familar flashing light in his HUD once again. Atticus opened his menu and read the message "LEVEL UP!". "Nice" he though to himself. As the sun began to rise over the treetops, he could now figure out the route he had to take and began walking. As he cleared the edge of the woods and emerged once again into the grasslands, he decided he would continue his training. Spotting a boar near by he entered its agro range and launched his attack. Missing his mark by a mile, the boar countered his attack and struck his leg with its tusk.

Distracted by the pain, Atticus once again swung his spear around in an attempt to strike the boar only to miss again. As the boar dodged his attack, it quickly leaped forward headbutting him in the chest.
