» Real name: Miles Foster
» Age: 20
» Gender: Male
» Height: 6'0"

» Appearance: Miles is of an average build, but his limbs are somewhat strong and toned due to constant physical labour. His skin has a light brown pigmentation, and his sharp eyes are dark brown, almost black, in colour.  The wild, shaggy, medium length hair on his head is completely black and it sticks out in various directions. To hide his unruly hair, Miles would usually wear a beanie or ball cap depending on the weather. In Sword Art Online, he wears a dark green tunic with straps and belts to hold his equipment,  along with some loose fitting beige pants, and a pair of black boots that go half-way up his calves. He is still on the look for some headgear to hide his hair in game.

» About: Miles is originally from Canada. He and his mother moved to Japan when he was only 10 years old after his mother was offered a job in an elementary school. It was to teach the younger students English mostly, but his mother jumped at the opportunity to travel. He had a tough time at first, due to the language barrier. Miles was unable to communicate with others in his class, and was the only one given texts and documents in English. He felt alienated because of this, because the other kids would always laugh and point at him after saying something in their language during breaks within the school. He knew they were teasing him.
In junior high a few years later, he learned the basics, and began understanding the Japanese language. The hunch he had about them bullying him behind his back was spot on. The others often deemed him an "idiot", and "moron", among other insults to his intelligence because he got low to mediocre grades. He pretended he didn't care. The other students that he grew up with weren't people that he'd want to befriend anyway. Miles built up a barrier around himself, and became detached from the rest of the world. This continued until he graduated from high school.

Once he was on his own in Japan, due to his mother moving back to Canada, he found a small apartment and was determined to make a life for himself here without anyone's help. Doing odd jobs here and there earned him a reputation for being reliable and  unfinicky about the sorts of jobs he was doing. He eventually got a modest job as a garbage collector, where he did some salvaging on the side to help pay for the costs of living, in addition to a nice gaming computer on which he would occasionally play the single player rpg
He was surprised about all the valuable metals and trinkets that were thrown away. But he was very surprised about one thing in particular. One day, Miles pulled his truck to a house in a very luxurious neighbourhood, ending a routine garbage run of the area. There was some shouting in the house, and a mother came storming down to the street where Miles was. She simply glanced at him before tossing a strange helmet and CD case into the trash can Miles had finished emptying into the truck. These items didn't look like trash, and was shocked to find out that they were a Nerve Gear, and the new virtual reality game, Sword Art Online. He heard about this game a few weeks prior, and thought that it might be worth a try. Since then, Miles regretted the day he uttered the words "Link Start."

» Virtues:

Perceptive. Miles always had good senses. He is incredibly perceptive to his surroundings, and can see small details, pointing out things that most other people would miss. He has a knack for finding valuables that people carelessly throw away. It's also difficult to sneak up on him because his sense of hearing is well developed. When another person or entity enters his domain, he can usually tell.

Independent. Miles had a history of looking out for himself and making sure that he had everything he needed after high school and living on his own in an apartment in Japan. While Miles isn't very intelligent, he is extremely determined and self-reliant. A self-proclaimed odd jobber, Miles did many jobs part time for various establishments until he landed his permanent job as a garbage collector. It wasn't very luxurious or an extravagant way of living, but he was content. Miles doesn't look to others for support in SAO, believing that he can be just as good on his own in the game as he was with his former life. He knows he can carry his own weight.

Reliable. Miles won't back down from a job when offered, and will try to see every single one he takes to the end. This is especially true if the person he's working for is someone he knows, or if there is something to gain from offering his service. While he's not one to join up with large groups, he will join up with other players in small parties if asked. Miles usually won't voice any complaints if travelling with others unless a job is especially troublesome, or dangerous.

Thoughtful. Though Miles doesn't show much interest in others and seems a little cold, he will show some compassion, and empathy to people who he deems needs it. or is deserving of it. He's considerate of others to a point and will engage in conversation if the another person wants, provided that other person is a close friend.

» Flaws:

Anti-social. Miles isn't very open or talkative. He didn't have much of a social life in the real world, and doesn't see the point in one. Miles mostly keeps to himself, and is very introvertive. Usually only focused on himself, and taking care of his own needs. He doesn't speak unless spoken to, or when he has something absolutely crucial to say. When he is exchanging words with another person, he doesn't mince words. Miles is very brief, and to the point.

Indecisive. Miles cannot and will not assume a leadership position, due to the fact he is bad with huge decisions. Alone, Miles is fine since he knows his wants and needs, but factoring in other players will pose a problem for him. The problem stems from the fact that he's incapable of seeing the "big picture", focusing too much on little details, and quick fixes rather than long term solutions. In parties, Miles usually defers to another player's commands and opinions. He is more of a follower than a leader. He considers himself a pawn in chess rather than the actual player moving the pieces.

Judgemental. Miles tends to judge people on outward appearances and first impressions. If a person is too overbearing with a certain trait or quirk, he'll get annoyed. He's usually got some mental opinions on people he meets, that he'd never voice.  He knows that they would probably cause some offence if they ever got out into the open. Miles also thinks people have an ulterior motive for wanting to befriend others, so he's always wary around them. He doesn't trust anyone a hundred percent.

Indifferent. Miles is detached from the affairs, and troubles of Sword Art Online. If problems or issues don't directly concern him, then he won't take a interest or care much about them. He also doesn't care about completing the game for the most part, believing that someone else will take up a sword and do it eventually. He simply plans to make sure that he lives to see that day when it finally comes.
