Weaker than most due to a rare muscular disease, Sosuke has always felt distant towards others and is often found sitting by himself, sketching or listening to music. He also had trouble with bullies who took advantage of him being weak and frail. For many years, he had to deal with this until finally, he dropped out of high school when he was in eleventh grade. The stress and pain he felt was more than he could take. Several years later, he found a job as an assistant at a doctor's office. His main goal was to become a doctor himself and see if he could find a way to cure his disease. One day, he stumbles across Sword Art Online and, to him, this was the answer he was looking for: This would be his chance to start a new life!

Rushing to the nearest game store, he buys all of the hardware needed to play SAO, including the Nerve Gear and the last hard copy in stock of SAO. Getting home, he opens up the box to his Nerve Gear, inserts the disc for SAO into the port, and stares at his reflection in the mirror. The scrawny guy he saw just smiled back at him as he and his reflection donned the Nerve Gear. As he lied down on the bed, he stared up at the ceiling.

"Link Start!"

As he logged in, the first thing he did was grab his Basic Longsword from his Beginner's Pack and swung it effortlessly. It didn't even feel heavy to swing it! Sheathing it, he began to run around the plaza. He didn't even feel tired! 

When Akihiko Kaiyaba gave his speech about the Death Game, Sosuke, despite his fear, smiled. This was what he wanted. A new life and nobody knew him. Even when his body became scrawny again, he didn't feel the weakness he would normally feel in the real world. 

"Death game, huh? Challenge... Accepted..."

About: Personality

Sosuke is a rather timid individual who tends to keep to himself due to many years of being bullied. When approached, he will become uncomfortable or even attempt to avoid the person approaching him. When he fights, however, it's as if an alter ego of some kind emerges from within him. A bloodlust rages in his eyes as he attempts to kill anything or anyone who intends to harm him. Despite his timid nature, he has a sense of determination fueled by his desire to prove to everyone in the real world that he is more than the weak boy they knew that could barely lift himself up off the ground. This determination is so strong that he will go to great lengths to see this desire fulfilled, even at the risk of his own life.

Virtues:

Determined - Despite his timid nature, Sosuke has a sense of determination so strong that he would walk through hell and back just to prove a point. He once spent nearly ten hours to do just fifteen push-ups with a weighted back-pack on, something extremely hard to do for someone with his condition, just to prove that he was able to do it. This sense of determination, however, can also be considered a flaw because once he sets his mind on something, even if it seems impossible, he will do everything he can to see it through to the end.

Loyal - Although he prefers to be alone, when he does make a friend, he will devote himself to protecting them at all costs. He would give his life to protect someone he loves or cherishes. Once again, his determination plays a vital role here. 

Insight - Due to his many years of being bullied and deceived, Ourian has developed a natural insight. About 90% of the time, he can tell if someone is trying to trick him or someone nearby or if someone can or cannot be trusted.

Flaws:

Timid - Due to his body's frailty and his many years of being tormented by others, Sosuke tends to keep to himself and will often times remain silent if approached. It's not as if he is being rude, he just developed a lack of trust in most people.

Judgmental - Sosuke has a tendency to judge someone before he even gets to know them. He has developed this state of mind as a defense mechanism stemmed from his lack of trust. This flaw tends to drive others away from him.

Serious - Sosuke tends to take things way too seriously. In fact, he rarely jokes with anyone and when someone jokes with him, he may even take offense to it depending on the nature of the joke. He believes that relaxation is a luxury he cannot afford.
