Jomei 0 Posted July 1, 2015 #1 Share Posted July 1, 2015 The sun was slowly beginning to set over the mountaintop city of Urbus located on Floor Two. Jomei looked up into the sky as a gentle breeze passed by, moving his bangs out of his face momentarily. It was a peaceful twilight, and Jomei decided to take in the scenes sitting on a wooden bench in the center of town. He leaned back against the back of the bench and sighed, placing his hands behind his head. He was reflecting on his life so far here in SAO, the good and the bad. He closed his eyes as he let the gentle breeze take away his bad thoughts. When that didnt work, he decided he needed something to do.. but what. That was when he heard the familiar sound that reminded him of home. "Whoo hoo" an owl, that must have been perched somewhere on the outskirts of the town made its call.. reminding Jomei of other memories. He then sat up straight in the bench, "Wait a second..". With one arm resting on his knee he lifted his other, opening up his HUD and scrolling over to his Active Quests. He scrolled through the small list to see that he still had <<Feeding The Enemy>>. Last time Jomei had seen Ahti, he was going to take her on said quest as a form of a 'date.' Sadly enough for him, before the day came, she vanished. "Well, doesn't mean I can't do it now..." Jomei 0 Posted July 2, 2015 Author #2 Share Posted July 2, 2015 Jomei stood up from the bench he sat on and stretched his arms into the air. He figured the first thing he needed to do was to go buy some sort of bait from the marketplace. He took a few steps away from the bench before he remembered something. With the obvious look on his face, he was only missing the lightbulb over his head, meaning he had an idea. He lifted his hand opening up his HUD, and then opening his inventory in a side window. He did not need to look for long to find the 3 Rabbit Meat he had previously purchased. When he originally accepted this quest awhile ago, he had bought the meat as a means to use as bait. He grinned as he selected the item to take out of his inventory. However, that large, pearly-white grin soon turned to a look of horror and disgust as the rabbit meat materialized into his hands. Jomei learned the hard way that prepared foods did not last forever like the stale pieces of bread he was given at the beginning of the game. The meat had gone rancid, and the putrid smell filled the surrounding area. Jomei looked around as he heard the groans of players quickly walking by, some of them glaring and throwing their hands to their noses. Embarrassed, Jomei quickly threw the meat as far as he could in front of him, the carcasses shattering into blue fragments. The smell slowly faded, and Jomei let out a sigh of relief, but also of despair, "Guess I have to go buy it again..." - 3 Rabbit Meat
Jomei 0 Posted July 2, 2015 Author #3 Share Posted July 2, 2015 After escaping from the lingering smell of rancid meat, Jomei quickly made his way to the town square. Here, there were many small tents and carts set up selling various foods, trinkets, and other provisions any adventurer in Aincrad would need. After a short walk through the labyrinth of makeshift shops, Jomei finally found a butcher who had set up a tent to sell some of his meats outside of his actual shop. Jomei smiled and walked up to the man, who, being an NPC, was set on a constant loop of chopping a large slab of meat and placing them into a container, waiting to be spoken to by a player. As Jomei approached, the man looked to him and grinned widely through a thick beard. "Fresh meats! Come take a look!" Jomei placed his hand on the man's counter, "Id like to take a peek at what you're selling, sir." With that, the bearded butcher nodded, and a window containing a large list of assorted meat's popped up in Jomei's face. He scrolled down the menu, searching for anything that was small and rodent like. Just like last time, he decided to buy slabs of rabbit meat, only buying 1 this time. Jomei paid the man the required col and the transaction was complete. "Thanks come again!" + 1 Rabbit Meat -15 col
Jomei 0 Posted July 2, 2015 Author #4 Share Posted July 2, 2015 Jomei made his way through the scattered crowds of people. Once he made his way out of the town square, it was time to head through the city gates and out into the fields surrounding Urbus. Stepping through the large archway separating the city and the forested mountainsides, Jomei stopped and took in the sights. Floor Two was a really beautiful place during this time of the day, the sun setting through the mountains, illuminating some of the trees. He was happy he chose this place to set up shop and make his home. "Ok, enough sightseeing" he lifted his hand opening his inventory again, selecting his rapier. The weapon materialized onto his body in a flash of white light, settling into place on his hip with a 'clink' noise. His destination was the forests that occupied the mountain adjacent to Urbus, so thats where he began to walk.
Jomei 0 Posted July 2, 2015 Author #5 Share Posted July 2, 2015 As Jomei entered the forest, he noticed that there was a slight incline because of the mountain.. not enough to make it tough to travel though. He stepped around a tree, placing his hand on its trunk for support. He looked around at the visible branches for any sign of his target. This was quite a large forest.. it was probably going to take him quite awhile to find an owl. He let out a heavy sigh at the thought, "I should try and finish this before sundown.. or else I might have a problem getting back." He thought maybe he would be able to attract the owl to his position by equipping the rabbit meat, rather than having it sit in his inventory. He opened up his HUD and inventory, upon selecting the Rabbit Meat it appeared in his hand. Using the string used to hold the slabs of meat together, he tied the meat to his belt so he would still have a free hand. He looked up in the trees again, trying to see if he noticed any movement. Jomei 0 Posted July 2, 2015 Author #6 Share Posted July 2, 2015 Jomei continued his slow approach through the forest, light slowly fading because of the setting sun. He slowly watched the trees and listened for the owl. However, the next sound Jomei heard did not come from the trees. The sound of shuffling grass and twigs breaking below its feet came from about 15 to 20 feet behind Jomei. He dropped to the ground, crouching behind a tree. He was alone in a darkening forest after all, it could have been a PKer or maybe it was only a mob. Either way, he needed to be careful.. He took a deep breath, trying to stay as quiet as possible to avoid being detected. Everything was silent, and Jomei could not hear movement from whatever was following him before. Jomei was then met with a loud roar in his ear, catching him entirely off guard. He spun his head quickly to see a large brown bear, its mouth wide open in front of Jomei's face. He quickly dove out from behind the tree, tumbling down the incline of the mountain a bit before regaining his composure. Jomei 0 Posted July 2, 2015 Author #7 Share Posted July 2, 2015 Jomei grit his teeth as he finally got a good look at the beast. It was a large brown haired hair with hungry black eyes. He made sure not to enter any aggro tables while trekking through the forest, so he wondered why the bear decided to take the initiative and attack him. As he noticed the bear was salivating at the mouth, he looked down and realized it probably smelled the rabbit meat. Despite smelling that, Jomei was sure it wouldn't stop at the tiny slab of meat at his waist.. and would probably eat Jomei as seconds. Sweat dripped down his jawline as he pulled his rapier from its sheath. As the bear let out another loud roar, it charged at Jomei, swinging its monstrous paws at Jomei's body. Jomei quickly stepped to the side up the incline to gain a slight height advantage on the bear. As he swung around to face his opponent, he thrusted his sword forward, a barrage of blue, blade-like lights pushed into the bear as well. Jomei 0 Posted July 2, 2015 Author #8 Share Posted July 2, 2015 Jomei huffed as he dislodged his sword and stepped back, gaining distance from the bear. Ever since he gave up his shield to Lee, he was able to strike and move a lot faster, the extra weight not holding him down. However, having that shield at the moment would have come quite in handy. The large bear threw all of its weight at Jomei, its body plowing into his. As the bear tackled Jomei, he fell to the ground, the bear's side landing on top of Jomei. He let out a breath of air as he stomach was crushed. Thinking quickly, he activated his <Athletics> skill. The extra strength from the skill allowed him to lift the bear up off of his body momentarily and push it off of him. He picked his body off of the ground and regained his breath. Glaring up at the bear, he lunged forward, slashing the bear across the forehead. Jomei 0 Posted July 2, 2015 Author #9 Share Posted July 2, 2015 He took another large breath, the bear's size did not leave much to the imagination of how heavy it really was. Luckily he did not eat before coming out here, or he would be looking at it again by now. He needed to take this thing out quickly, its loud roars and thrashing around would probably scare away anything in the surrounding areas, including any owls that he had a chance of taming. Before the bear had a chance to recover and attack, Jomei had already began dashing towards his enemy again, his sword once again slashing at the bear, this time across its side. The bear let out another pained roar. As it turned to look at Jomei, its face become more ferocious. The beast seemed to increase in size by just a little bit. Also, its claws became more apparent and enlarged on its paw. Jomei took a step back at the sight, this must have been it acting out of desperation. Jomei 0 Posted July 2, 2015 Author #10 Share Posted July 2, 2015 Now he was in trouble, with the increased strength of the bear a hit from it could really take a toll on Jomei's HP. He knew he needed to end it now before the bear could hit him. The bear dug its large, sharp claws into the dirt before taking off charging at Jomei. Thinking quickly, Jomei turned around to see a tree not far behind him. Looking back quickly at the bear, he used his <Sprint and Acrobatics> skill to run away from the bear and up the tree. Jomei was able to get about 4 or 5 large steps up the tree before gravity decided to do its job. Lucky for him, it was just high enough. He pushed off of the tree with his rapier at his side. He spun his body like a top, spinning at high speeds down towards the bear. Jomei's spinning attack was given a golden glow as he activated his sword skill. "Dancing Hurricane Strike!" his sword collided with the bear, slashing through its body, defeating the enemy in a flash of blue data fragments. Jomei 0 Posted July 2, 2015 Author #11 Share Posted July 2, 2015 The dust from Jomei's attack settled, and he saw that his enemy had been defeated. He let out a sigh of relief as he flared his rapier, placing it back in its sheath. "Glad thats over with.." he placed his hand on his forehead as he shook his head. He stood silently for a moment, to make sure that his late, furry friend did not bring any pals with him. He did not hear anything, so he figured he was safe from any more dangerous mobs. But the fact he did not hear anything was also a bad thing.. for that meant there were no owls in the trees above him. He picked his head up to look at the upper branches. Just as he thought, still nothing. "Ugh.. damn bear.." He continued to walk forward on his quest to find a familiar.
Jomei 0 Posted July 2, 2015 Author #12 Share Posted July 2, 2015 After his tussle with the bear, Jomei decided it would probably be best to place the meat back into his inventory. He did not want to have to escape back to Urbus to avoid getting killed... or actually getting killed for that matter. He opened his inventory with a sigh, unequipping the slab of Rabbit. It disappeared from his waist in a flash of blue light. "Well, guess that might make things a little bit harder now..." Now he could only hope on the owl wanting to perch on a branch near him randomly rather than luring it with a piece of food.
Jomei 0 Posted July 2, 2015 Author #13 Share Posted July 2, 2015 It had been about half an hour since Jomei had been attacked by the Brown Bear. It was starting to get darker again, but he was still able to see to the top of the trees which was good for him. He did not want to miss his chance and then be stuck in the forest in the dark. He continued his slow pace between the trees, being wary in each step not to catch his boot on any uprooted trees or other obstacles. He was beginning to think he was just hearing things during his daydreaming. Maybe there were no owls on this floor. He began to doubt even the existance of owls in this game. Jomei 0 Posted July 2, 2015 Author #14 Share Posted July 2, 2015 Jomei continued to lose more and more hope of finding an owl to claim as his own. He hung his head low and sighed, "This is pointless..." He turned around and leaned against a tree, letting his body slide down so he was sitting on the cold ground. He sat there staring up at the branches above him.. Thinking of something else he could maybe tame.. "Maybe a boar..? No... Heh, maybe find one of those 'firebreathing beasts' Ahti spoke about on the Seventh" he chuckled at the though and brought his head to look down. "Maybe I should head back.. Before some high level PKer finds me." Jomei pushed off the ground and used the tree to support himself as he stood up.
Jomei 0 Posted July 2, 2015 Author #15 Share Posted July 2, 2015 Jomei's eye's shot up as he heard rustling in the branches above him. He quickly stepped away from the tree to get a better look. Squinting his eyes to focus on the shadowy figure in the tree, it called out with a "Whoo" sound. Jomei's face lit up at the sound and laughed. He finally found the owl he was looking for. And judging by its size, it would be perfect to tame. He frantically brought his hand up to open his HUD, pulling out that slab of rabbit meat once again. As it materialized in his hand, he held up up, hoping the owl would take the bait. "Come on you.." He whispered to himself, hoping for the best. There was silence, followed by another rustling in the branches as the owl leapt from its branch to swoop down to snack on the meat Jomei had brought it. As it drew closer and closer, Jomei heard another rustling behind him, this time of a much smaller creature. He looked over his shoulder to see a small mouse had crawled out from under an uprooted tree. As he turned to look back at the owl, knowing he was safe from being attacked, he noticed the owl had slightly changed course, "... no." The owl passed right over Jomei's head, grabbing the small mouse in its talons as the victim began to squeak in terror. ID:22195 LD:9 (Not interested)
Jomei 0 Posted July 4, 2015 Author #16 Share Posted July 4, 2015 Jomei's arms dropped to his side as he watched the bird fly off into the distance. Jomei clenched his fist and grit his teeth, "Dammit!" he threw the slab of meat at a tree. Realizing what he had just done, his eyes widened and shot up, just in time to see the slab of rabbit carcass smack into a tree, exploding into fragments of data. Jomei smacked his face and held his hand there for a moment, "You're a moron, Nick.." He stood there for a couple seconds before picking his head back up. At least now he knew that owls existed in this game, and he was not determined to catch one. But now, it was too late, the sun had completely set and the forest was dark. -1 Rabbit Meat
Jomei 0 Posted July 4, 2015 Author #17 Share Posted July 4, 2015 He had no idea how far he was out from the city, and he had to teleportation crystals handy to bring him back safely. He let out a heavy sigh, "I guess I'm going camping tonight.." Jomei figured it was the second floor, any mobs that may stumble upon him and attack would not be able to kill him without waking him up first.. the only thing he really had to worry about were PKers. Jomei grabbed at the handle of his rapier and looked around to make sure he did not sense any oncoming threats. He needed to find some sort of shelter to hide in, and quickly. Jomei was planning on not dying tonight.
Jomei 0 Posted July 4, 2015 Author #18 Share Posted July 4, 2015 Jomei quickly moved through the dark forest in an attempt to find some sort of shelter to keep him safe as he slept. All he could see in the surrounding areas were trees and shrubbery, not very good places to stay hidden. He was not taking much care to stay out of the line of sight of mobs.. however it was strange to him that there were no mobs to be seen around. That made him even more nervous about getting away from here as quickly as possible. No mobs in the surrounding areas usually means one of two things; its a safe zone, which it obviously was not, or that they were already wiped out by other players. Judging by the luck Jomei was having today, it was most likely the latter.
Jomei 0 Posted July 4, 2015 Author #19 Share Posted July 4, 2015 Off in the distance, Jomei noticed a lack of trees, and a large protruding rock formation coming from the side of the mountain. As he walked closer and closer, his eyes adjusted to the figure. What he had stumbled upon was a large, rocky structure that looked like it was probably part of the mountain jutting out from the side, but being SAO had pre made maps and no moving fault lines like the real world, it must have been placed by the designers. On the side of the piece of mountain, he noticed a small indent near the bottom. It was perfectly large enough for him to crawl into and use as shelter. "Thank God.." Jomei said under his breath as he looked to see if anything had followed him one last time. He crawled into crawlspace, which was large enough for him to sit upright in, and tried to fall asleep. Jomei 0 Posted July 4, 2015 Author #20 Share Posted July 4, 2015 It had been about 3 hours of Jomei laying there, in and out of sleep. He was not able to get the rest he needed because of worrying about being found by PKers and killed in his sleep. He needed to stop worrying, if not, he would never be able to get any sleep, and he would not have the energy to pick up his search again in the morning. So he decided to try and think about something else to get his mind off of the subject. He began to think about the girl he cared about, smiling softly at imagining her pretty face and contagious laughter. His eyelids began to feel heavy as his eyes slowly shut, the image of this girl in his mind.
