His images and comfort was suddenly interrupted by the sound of crunching twigs. His eyes shot open as he quickly lowered his head to see out of the entrance to his little cave. He could not see where the sound had come from, but it was continuous.. like something walking near him. It was then the sound of footsteps was accompanied by murmuring. Jomei quickly took a deep breath and held it as he realized the sound he heard was none other than that of a player's.. multiple players in fact. It was dark, so Jomei could not see very well out of the small space, but judging by the sound of the footsteps and voices,they were getting much closer. He threw his hand to his mouth to muffle his breathing as he began to be able to pick out bits and pieces of their conversation. There was no doubt about it.. it was a pair of player killers.

Jomei listened intently to the sound of the two PKers, trying to judge where they were walking towards. He could not pinpoint exactly, only that they were in the surrounding radius of his position. The sound of Jomei's virtual heartbeat felt like a pounding drum bouncing off the cavern walls. He was terrified at the thought of these two players hearing it and making this his grave. He bolted his eyes shut and continued to hold his breath, trying to calm his heart rate down.

What Jomei saw next killed his hopes of surviving almost entirely. As the sounds of his possible pursuers got louder, he saw a pair of boots slowly stomp down on a fallen branch right in front of the entrance to his hiding spot. They slowly continued to walk forward, followed by another pair. They seemed a little bit more anxious, subtly twisting with its legs as they looked back and forth for possible prey. Finally, a third pair followed behind the second, much more slowly. This last one looked much larger than the first two, and behind him dragged the blade of a large buster sword cutting through the grass and dirt in its path.

As they all seemed to pass, the last one's blade stopped dragging on the floor. The group had stopped moving momentarily. Had they picked up on Jomei's position? What if one of that had the <Search and Detect> skill and found him? He heard the sound of multiple swords being drawn slowly, as well as the large man's sword being picked up off the ground. This was followed by cackling from the players. Jomei was done for.. he knew it. Then he heard the sound of a fourth person, however they did not seem to be with the other group. Their voice was filled with fear as they began to beg to the player killers for their life. Jomei was conflicted.. he promised he would not let any other people die.. but he knew for sure he would be killed as well if he stepped out of this cave.. so he froze. The sounds of a quick battle began to take place, followed by bloodcurdling screams of the PKer's victim. Jomei sat there in silence as their laughing continued. The sounds of walking boots then continued, and slowly began to get softer and softer. Jomei was safe for now.

Jomei was distraught, he had let another player die when he could have helped them escape. With that on his mind, Jomei sat frozen and did not get the rest he was working for. When his mind finally came to, he looked up to see the ground was now lit up from the rising sun. He closed his eyes and listened to his surroundings to see if anyone was around. When he heard nothing, he slowly crawled out from his hiding space. As he stood up, he took a deep breath and looked around. "Good... Im safe for now.." He looked to his right where it had seemed the battle had taken place the night before. There were no signs of battle, so there was no way of being sure if Jomei had even imagined it or not. No.. it had to be real.. Jomei drew his rapier and slowly brought the dull side of the blade up to his forehead, closing his eyes. This was a usual thing he did in remembrance of those who died here in SAO. Despite his feelings of guilt from letting someone die... he needed to get back to work.

Jomei knew the first thing he needed to do was to find more bait for the owl. He remembered his idiotic move of throwing the meat he had purchased out of anger, destroying it on contact. He sighed, figuring his best bet would be to find another rabbit or something smaller. He took one more quick look around to see if he could see anything either helpful or dangerous towards him. When he saw nothing, he decided to head back in the direction of Urbus, just in case he needed to make a quick run to the city. He was not planning on spending another night in this damned forest.

Jomei slowly stepped through the trees, now walking down the incline rather than hiking up it. He needed to be careful with his steps not to trip, or else he would be taking an ugly tumble into a group of trees. He kept his body lowered, and his eyes towards the ground, frantically looking for some sort of small game to hunt. His ears perked when he heard a small rustling coming from in front of him. He quickly stopped and got down on one knee to take a closer look. It was a small rodent like creature, a little bit smaller than a rabbit, but looked more like a rat like creature. As Jomei slowly drew his rapier, its eyes darted to him as it began to growl. He shrugged, guess he was going to be fighting this tiny thing.

Jomei looked at the small creature and almost felt bad about attacking it. He let out a deep sigh, but was interrupted by a rodent flying towards his face, yelling in a high pitched whine. "Jeez!" Jomei darted his head to the side to dodge it, "Feisty little bugger.." As it hit the ground, Jomei quickly stood up and span around. He thrusted his rapier forward, piercing the rodent through its side.

With his sword still in the rodent, who looked completely defeated on the ground, Jomei shook his head. He twisted his sword quickly, finishing off what was left of the poor creature. It was too low of a level to give Jomei any sort of Col or experience..but luckily for him, being a mob that was usually hunted for game, he was awarded with 1 Rodent meat. After finishing off the small mob and placing his sword back in its sheath, Jomei heard a familiar rustling from above him. As he quickly looked up, he saw that another owl had swooped down to a branch just a little above and in front of Jomei. It must have been following this rodent as its prey, and decided to stay around during the battle in case there were more.

Jomei slowly opened up his HUD to take out the meat he had just claimed from the defeated rodent. As it materialized in his hand, he gently held it forward offering it to the owl. It looked at the meat, and back at Jomei, tilting its head almost 90 degrees to the left.. and then to the right. Jomei swallowed hard, nervous he would have to go on another long quest after this one failed him again. The owl leapt from the perch and slowly hovered down to meet Jomei. It landed on the ground in front of him, and Jomei slowly lowered his body, extending his arm to the owl. It quickly took the meat and lifted its head, letting it slide down its throat. Jomei watched the owl as it finished its food and looked back up towards him. It jumped into the air again, hovering evenly with Jomei. Instead of flying away, however, the owl moved forward and perched on Jomei's shoulder. He laughed excitedly as the owl landed, and he gently pet its head with his other arm. The owl gave off a light blue aura for a moment, this must have been the game's way of showing the tamed familiar was now one's ally. "I think ill name you..Adare"
