[SP-F1] <<Earning a Living>> - The Tailor's Trade

Recommended Posts

It was early morning when the White Phoenix awoke in his room at the inn. One arm was slung over the edge of the bed, his first sight of the day being the wooden floorboards. He sighed, wanting to go back to bed, but knew he had to get up. He groaned as he sat up, rubbing the sleep out of his eyes. He turned himself so that his feet left the bed and landed on the floor. He looked at himself, noticing that he was still wearing his gear. He smiled and stood up, stretching his arms out and also let out a yawn. He shook his head a little, trying to wake himself up, and groggily headed for the door that would lead him out into the town.

As Axel walked through the town, he glanced at the crowds around him filled with players buying items from NPC's and other players. He smiled as he saw the dramatic haggling of players and others getting obviously conned. It almost made him laugh, but he didn't want to ruin the fun of others. He looked to the signs of each shop, noticing many blacksmith shops, a few stands where cooks sold their creations, merchant stalls who sold a wide variety of items, but he didn't see too many tailors around. One that he did find however, seemed to be giving out a quest. The Quest Giver was a young woman, probably a year or two older than himself. He looked around, shrugged, and walked over.

When he approached, the NPC seemed to notice him and looked up, smiling. She had jet black hair, like his own, that was drawn back in a ponytail. She bowed politely and looked up to Axel, opening her mouth to speak.

"Hello there! My name is Fiona and this is my shop! Do you need new clothes? Or perhaps some light armor to help you in combat?" The NPC seemed pretty enthusiastic about selling him something, but he just shook his head.

"Actually, no. I was wondering if you needed help with something." He smile and crossed his arms, the sword on his back shifting a little as he did so. The woman's eyes seemed to light up and she nodded.

"Yes, help would be wonderful! I could always use an apprentice. I could show you how to make all sorts of clothes and leather armor! But first, you'd have to collect some items for me." After speaking, a text box appeared in front of him that read:

Accept This Quest?

Axel smiled and nodded, pressing the appropriate button to accept the quest. When he did, he was immediately told to gather three wolf pelts and two boar hides. He smirked, realizing it was easy enough. He nodded to the young woman of the tailor shop, turned, and walked off. It was time for a bit of hunting, a favorite past time of Axel's. And now he got to do it for a quest.

Axel walked through the grassy plains that bordered the beginning town, or Town of Beginnings if you will. He smiled as he felt the breeze blow through his hair and let out a sigh as his cloak flapped in the wind behind him. He looked up to the sky, taking in it's features. It was a remarkable sky, for a virtual world that is. As he looked up, his thoughts drifted to the real world. He thought about his family back home...his younger brother and sister...his father...he wondered if they would get by alright without him around to work and provide money for them.

Just then, a shriek pierced through the air, finding it's way to the White Phoenix. He looked around, seeing a girl in the distance surrounded by what seemed to be wolves. He dashed across the field, drawing his sword, ready for a fight. As he got closer, he noticed that there were about three wolves. He grit his teeth, but he knew that each could only take two hits. He saw one of the wolves attack the girl from behind and called out, but it was too late. Her health must have already been low because one claw attack to her back shortly made her dissolve into polygons. Now it was him against three wolves. One pounced at him, opening it's mouth wide to bite Axel as he swung his sword to catch the wolf in midair.

The White Phoenix grunted as he was bit, but smiled when he saw the wolf was also hit. This time, Axel took the offensive and rushed the already wounded wolf, swinging his sword at it. Before he could see if he hit however, he saw another wolf jump at him and tried to roll to the side to dodge the attack. He wondered if this was where he would die...in a field, killed by three wolves. No... He thought to himself, Not like that...

He smiled as he dodged the second wolf that attacked and watched as the first dissolved in front of him. He turned to the other two wolves, holding his sword out to the side prepared for another attack. He didn't see either move to attack, so he rushed forward, stabbing at one and then slashing at the other quickly. After doing so, both wolves attacked him and he rolled back in an attempt to get away from their attacks. The battle was going pretty well for Axel so far. If he killed both wolves, he wouldn't even have to worry about killing more...maybe one would even drop some good loot. He smiled, thinking about what award awaited him.

Axel grinned as wolf number two went down and wolf three was hit. He looked to the third wolf, thinking of how best to take care of him. Before he could think of something, the wolf rushed him so he had to think on his feet here. He rushed forward, preparing a lunge with his sword. He saw the wolf getting ready to jump at him, and did the same and both launched into the air. Axel moved his sword to swipe away the wolf as it snapped it's teeth at him. He went past the wolf, falling to the ground and turned around to assess the damage.

With that last strike, the last wolf went down. Axel smiled and sheathed his sword, satisfied with his work. He walked over, picking up all the pelts which of course, totaled up to three. Not only that, but he also realized he leveled up to level four. He beamed, proud of himself of leveling up...but he still had a long way to go to catch up to those on the front lines. He sighed and began to move on, across the plains. Maybe he would find a boar somewhere out here...he could always check out the forest areas as well. It didn't matter. The more time he had to spend the better. It was nice to be out, doing something...took his mind off of other things.

Axel kept moving through the fields. He doubted that he would be able to find a boar out here...he was lucky to have even found the wolves. He yawned, starting to feel a bit tired from fighting. But, he knew he had to keep going. He wouldn't turn back until he found the boar, he'd make sure of that. After a solid thirty minutes of walking, he came across what seemed to be one of the forest areas. He shrugged and walked in, wondering if a boar would be hiding in there somewhere. There probably would be...he hoped he would find one soon. He was starting to get pretty tired even though he had probably only been out for an hour or two.
