[SP-F4] The Missing Child

Recommended Posts

Lindow sat down with his legs crossed, he was amazed he could do that here as opposed to real life. As they waited he told her about his daughter, "Her name is Jasmine and she is seventeen now. The day I put on the NerveGear was the eve of her birthday. In fact this game was her gift since she wanted a full dive unit of her own. I was in the process of testing it out to make sure it was safe before I have it to her the following day. As you can see, I was the one trapped in the game and not her and I am thankful for that. What can I say about Jasmine though?"

He wondered scratching his beard lightly, "Well, like her mother she has long black hair and green subtle eyes. She is a rebellious teen girl and is into that rock scene for the most part. Both her mother and I enjoy a more classical touch to music, but we allow her to explore the nuances of life. She is a capable driver...for the most part, a few close calls at some traffic lights but I am sure she is doing just fine with that now. She should be starting her Junior year in Highschool now if memory serves me. She was a Sophomore last year. She likes to go shopping and buy ridiculous things that don't fit her right or shows too much of something..."

His voice trailed off, the images of his daughter's face seem to warm his body from the cold, the mere thought of his family always brought a calm to his heart, "Sounds like you love her and miss her alot."

"I do. And I plan on seeing her and my wife again someday soon. But first we must get through this game. I heard there was recent strides once again on finding the boss room. The guild I am in will be going to front lines soon as we prepare our equipment and get a little stronger. We have some plans for other things as well, but we all help each other in the end. I am sure your parents miss and love you too, Lenneth."

"Thank you Lindow. I know they do! And I can't wait to go home. If you go to the front, I'll feel much safer knowing you are there helping to beat the game..."

Lindow nodded and smiled warmly at the girl, "Hey! I think the pond refreshed with mats. Have another look!"

Lindow got out his fishing net for the frozen pond and swished it around as many times as he did the last time, Lenneth was telling him about her family as well and that she was an only child. Lindow nodded and explained that he and his wife were thinking of having another child, but he was already an old man at this point but laughed about that. As he removed the fishing net from the cold water, his success rate was much the same as last time. He found what could be described as materials from the descriptions and placed them in his inventory. Those would prove to be useful later on, "Hey! You are quite the lucky charm, Lenneth. Thank you for showing me this spot. I suppose its getting late out now. We better get back to Snowfrost before another blizzard shows up or it gets too dark for us to see.

Lindow lifted himself up as the girl yawned placing a hand over her mouth, "Why don't I give you a piggy back ride back to town? You seem to be tired."

Lenneth watched as he got down on one knee for her to climb onto his back, "Is it really ok?" she asked, but Lindow gave a nod. She jumped on his back and smiled delightfully as he climbed back up to his feet. Nodding to himself he was ready to set back out to Snowfrost.

With Lenneth on his back, Lindow was able to walk towards Snowfrost more quickly, the extra weight didn't seem to slow him down and they passed through the mobs rather easily avoiding any dangerous routes. Soon the city was in sight and the town's people were happy to see Lenneth safe. As they reached the border of the safe zone, Lenneth climbed down off Lindow's back as he was surrounded by the people as they thanked him.

"I'm so glad Lenneth is safe! You did a remarkable job finding her."
"I'm more than happy to see she is safe and unharmed. Though in the end she found me. It turns out the player that kidnapped her has some sort of Gilles De Raise complex. I would keep an extra eye on the children until I talk with my Guild Mates about imprisoning this player."

"Player?" boomed out a voice, Lindow turned his head upwards as a black cloaked player on top of a roof watched them from below. An orange marker over his head as he laughed and laughed at them, "Pathetic fools. I am not the only one who craves despair and chaos in this world. We are a guild of death dealers! And I am not the only one. We will find your children and play with them, and we will play with you all as well. You have not seen the last of me, Crimson Blades! Muwahahaha!!" The man used a crystal and flashed out of no where in sight. The town's people spoke with hushed tones, Lindow scratched his beard, he would have to bring this up with the council.

As the evening transpired, Lindow was invited to a feast in his honor for saving the child from the clutches of that PKer. But all was calm now as he sat at a rather large table in his formal red tunic and wears. Lenneth sat beside him and her legs swung from her chair happily as she stared at him. Lindow smiled back and then there was an awkward toast. Lindow looked to the speech giver and raised his glass along with everyone else.

"To the Hero, Lindow. For not only bringing about the safety of the Lenneth, but also protecting us from the cloaked mad man earlier. And to the Crimson Blades for becoming a beacon of hope that we can all rest more easy at nights and for quicker outcome of the ending to this Death Game. Here's to you, Lindow of the Crimson Blades."

"Here! Here!" the people shouted and clanked their wine glasses as they bounced from around the room as they sat down and feasted on the great food before him. Lindow had casual conversations with those around him, they offered him a small lodging free of charge if he wished to stay on Floor Four and help keep those pesky PKers away. He accepted the invitation, he had grown to enjoy this floor and the cold snow. Though if he really wanted to protect these people, he would need better equipment. The armor would be made soon, that would just leave an accessory spot and a weapon slot open for him. The Hard Edge was a nice blade, but it need a boost in power before he could even take on another player. Those thoughts were pushed aside when he was confronted by a beauty of a woman, and more so half his age as she leaned over filling his wine cup as she leaned down she spoke sultry tones into his ear, "Should you require company tonight...just send me a message..." Quickly she sent a friend request and her name showed up as 'Delilah.' He accepted the request but he dare not find pleasure in any other woman besides his wife.

That evening he was accompanied by Lenneth to his lodgings where she showed him the way to it. Inside it was warm and cozy, a roaring fireplace lit anf filled the room with a calming presence. His body fell into a chair after the two of them parted ways. He moved through his menu to see if there was any new messages, only the one from Opal a friend he met a while ago.

"Hey Lin! How are things? Haven't seen you on Floor One in awhile. Are you already hitting the front lines? Hahaha. If you ever get some free time, let me know and I'll buy you a drink. Hope things are well! -heart- Opal.

Lindow sighed and replied to the message courteously and sent it off, if anything she was persistent. What was up with all these girls here being attracted to him? He was married and he said that repeatedly over and over to them, there was no change in that and as far as things would go he would not step over that boundary of 'its just a game, and no one will find out.' That was disrespectful to himself and his wife, as Secretary of the Crimson Blades, he had honor and a duty to keep things moral and he would not be swayed by the voluptuous bodies of the females of this game, they could be lying about their age for all he knew.  He turned over and found a comfortable bed to sleep in, his body fell into the softness and warmth of the covers and his eyes started to close. It had been a long and arduous day.  Tomorrow he would seek out his Guild Mates and tell them of this new PK guild.

Lindow slept like a log, his arms and legs sprawled out over the large bed as he snored to himself. As he roused himself away, the first few cracks of light were starting to show in the morning sky. He did his morning routine of stretches and push ups and equipped his armor and weapon as the new day had begun. The bright Crimson Blades's cloak swung over his tunic and vest as he moved outside of his lodging, Lenneth waiting just outside his door.

"Ahh! Good morning, Lenneth. Why are you up so early?"

"Material hunting! I'm just waiting for my escorts...What are you up to today?"

"Guild business. I must talk with Guild Leader Mack and the rest of the Crimson Council about what happened last night. We can't let these vagabonds run amuck when we are trying to finish this Death Game. An assault on the players will grievously hamper our plans on quickly finishing the floors. We need to come up with a way to snip it in the bud before it fully blossoms."

"Oooh! That mysterious player in the dark cloak and hood. He was kinda scary...If you're not busy later, will you come play with me?"

"I don't know what I have planned today, but if time allows I shall be back and we can have some fun."

Lindow placed a hand on the girl's head and smiled as he went towards the portal. He flashes a wave before he turned and was transported back to Floor One.

A week had passed since the eventful evening on Floor Four where a mysterious player garbed in an obsidian cloak had proclaimed to be a PKer from a type of child killing PK guild and he had marked Lindow and the Crimson Blades as enemies. Lindow decided he would stay here on floor four to help protect and patrol Snowfrost citizens from these unrully PKers. Thus after meeting up with his guild and explaining the situation to them, he has once more come back to stay in Snowfrost if only to help with the protection of the city. As a Crimson Blades member, it was a duty he enjoyed doing as it made him feel more at ease with himself as being a former police officer.

"Lindow! You are back!" the little girl he had saved that long week had returned by his side as if nothing had happened to her, she wore a brilliant smile as bright as the color of the sun. With a happy nod, he knelt down to see her, "How are things, Lenneth? Has there been any trouble recently?"

"It's been rather quiet, and I was out picking herbs with a few others this morning. Unfortunatly, I don't think I found anything suitable to help you out on your adventures."

The little girl has been promising to keep an eye out for special ores on her material hunting expeditions, it seemed like she didn't find anything this time around. He placed a hand on her head and shook her hair, "I'm glad you are doing well. I'm gonna go patrol the area and make sure everything is alright. I'll probably head off to that cave and see if I can find any more clues. Think you can send me a message if any suspicious happens?" Lindow asked.

"Yes, sir!"

He gave a wink and smiled as he stood up, as he did so she realized he had changed his armor. The crimson leather tunic and vest of his starting gear was replaced by a replendid looking suit of armor. It made him more knightly looking, "Lord Lindow!" she joked teasingly as she placed a palm on the cool exterior of the metal plates.

"Alright, Lenneth. I'm making my rounds. Don't get into any trouble!" Lindow waved, his Crimson Blades cloak billowed out behind him as he moved in the wintry town before him. He took noticed of the people that were standing about, he took notice of the smaller things as he kept a sharp on everything and everyone. He helped a villager or two along the way with some simple chores and then went on his way. It took about an hour to circle the town and another to go through the streets to make sure everything was proper. After that he started to leave the edge of the safe zone and was wandering out towards the crystal caverns once more to find any hints on this PK guild.

Lindow found the cave he found Lenneth in, he remembered that grizzly fight with the Rock Beast which was not pleasent with his current gear. But he was a little more prepared now and he shuttled himself inside. He kept along the walls as he came up to an inlet where he battled that goliath of a beast. He remembered being pinned and almost dieing here, and he shook his head free of those thoughts. He smoothed out the peppered hair as it swept towards his eyes. He went forward still and found a snow gremlin with a pitch fork in hand hopping side to side near the wall.

Lindow whistled for it's attention, now was good time to see what this new armor could do for him. Hefting the massive blade HardEdge to his shoulder, he squared his body and slid his foot into stance. His overcast grey eyes narrowed slightly as he targeted the fiend. His blade began to glow an ominous red color signifying an skilled attack combo to be initiated. Like a flurry of red from his billowing cloak, his thunderous steps ripped through the ground as he swung his mighty blade down towards the enemy catching it by surprise. The heavy blade came down and cracked through the skull of the Gremlin and then was lifted into the air and came back down again to finish the strike. Lindow swept his blade across for a slash to execute the second part and sundered the creature's belly. It howled with pain as Lindow took a step back to ready his next assault. So far the <<Heavy Momentum>> has yet to take action.

The Snow Gremlin was enraged as it stomped its foot down on the ground. Making ready its pitchfork, it sped across the slippery cave with ease going full throttle at Lindow. He couldn't keep up with the little menace and he was caught flat footed as he was backing up. The Gremlin charged with its pitchfork in front of it as a hurricane of thrusts impaled Lindow as the metal spikes penetrated the heavy armor and struck him heavily. The Knightly Lindow fell to his knees and swiped his sword at the enemy but could not manage a hit. His armor pulsated as his attack missed and initiated the <<Heavy Momentum>> enhancement of his armor. Getting up with a slight stagger, he rubbed his chin with his gloved hands and once more readied the HardEdge over his shoulder. He smiled, this time missing didn't become such a bad idea after all.

As the Snow Gremlin was going for its next attack, Valhalla's Herald's aura dispersed as the slashing motion of his Hard Edge came cutting through the air towards it. The Gremlin spun around and was knocked several feet back from the weighty blade. It landed in a pile of rubble as Lindow smiled happy with the special enhancements made to the armor. The Gremlin was slow to get up out of the rubble as several spiky shards of rock came falling down from the ceiling and sticking into the dark earth floor. Lindow dragged his blade across his other side and readied himself for another strike. The pitchfork of the gremlin seemed broken and bent as the creature got to its feet and stammered off in a language he didn't know. It was evident that the creature was angry and was going to make him pay for his crimes. Laughing to himself, Lord Lindow addressed his foe with a gesture with his hand.

Lindow arced his blade from one side to the other as the Snow Gremlin furiously charged him once more, with the pitchfork outstretched in his hands the broken weapon seemed to make contact with the armor once more and jarred the Grand Secretary. Standing steadfast, his sword whipped around his body as it glowed that ominous red color once more. He leaned on his foot as he thrust his blade forward like a rapier held with both hands. There was an explosion of light for a moment as the pure volume of the strike seemed to hit the creature four times before blowing it back into oblivion. The victory was Lindows as he soun his sword with one hand and sheathed it to his back. He nodded and dusted his hands off, he was ready to continue into the cavern once more.

As the Knight walked down the darkened corridors there was evidence of someone being here not too long ago. He could see there was a burned out campfire and some markings and residue on the floor. He knelt down and touched the surface with his gloved hands. His eyes fell to question that who it might have been that was staying here. Perhaps the noise of battle had startled them and they ran away, or they were still here watching him from a distance. Lindow got up to his feet and dusted his gauntlets off.

"Anyone here that wants to show themselves to me?" he head twisted and his eyes darted with his movements waiting to see if there would be any reply. Moments paced and there was no answer. Lindow sighed and he continued further into the dark maze of the crystal cavern. His silvery eyes set out looking out for any other clues, he was coming close to the exit as he spotted sunlight coming from the end of the exit. As he was walking closer and closer, his foot slipped and the ground broke beneath his feet. He went sliding down a good twenty or thirty feet down the slope and into the inner workings of the cavern. When he came to, he saw only spots of light coming in different directions. Lindow held out to the wall and steadied himself as he got to his feet. He squinted his eyes to see anything and continued walking through the treacherous terrain, there was no way to escape this by going up.

Lindow continued his trek through the twisting and winding curves of the cataclysm he fell into. There was nothing but darkness all around him as his heavy plate mail clattered as he walked. He attempted to soften the sound by moving more slowly, but even then it would alarm anything that heard him. Continuing on with his journey, Lindow came to a small would be shrine. Was this part of the game? Hopefully he didn't stumble down in any sort of dungeon, if that was the case looking for a way out took priority, he didn't have the equipment to solo a dungeon like this.

Shifting his weight, he took care of his movements but also walked quickly along the path. His eyes caught two large spiders that seemed to guard the way to his right, the left seemed to lead to a dead end. He had no choice but to fight his way through, two spiders with his HP. Hopefully they weren't anything he couldn't handle alone. Before he set off to start the battle, Lindow looked down. There was another slope he could go down if things were to get too hairy the only problem was that he didn't know where the slope would take him. He would have to make due with what he had, there was only one way to go and that was to push forward. Steeling his nerves, he engaged combat with the spiders.

As soon as Lindow stepped forward both Spiders spun around to face him. Their system protocols engaged him as a threat and their bodies sank low to the ground. The first one stood and spat a ball of spider web at his armor, knocking him back a foot. His Valhalla's Herald took the blow but he still took some damage from the spider. The second one leapt at him with its bouncy, spiny legs and feasted on his face as the creepy crawler snagged a bit of flesh and chomped on the cut away dermis. Lindow yanked the spider off and thrust his blade into the abdomen of the insectoid. It squirmed in place for a moment before knocking his sword back and going back to its team mate. Already he was at a severe disadvantage. He would not hold out like this if they attacked in unison like that. He looked around trying to find some sort of way to fight them off one by one.

The Grand Secretary moved inch by inch attempting to threaten or scare one of them as he waved hiss word with both hands left and right. The first spider got into stance and shot a projectile at him. The spider dart whizzed by his hair cutting a few strands off but missing its attempted target. Lindow was going to come down for a swing and attempt to chop off one of the legs, but as he attempted to do so the other spider engaged him as used its front legs as a spear and jabbed at him. Lindow was able to lift his leg up in time as the spider jabbed and was able to back up another foot away from them. He grunted as the armor started pulse with the readiness of <<Heavy Momentum>>. That was good that the armor was still intact through the heavy worn out battle. The spiders chattered back and forth at one another, their eyes on him as they planned their next strike. Lindow continued to wave his Hard Edge left and right attempting to scare the large arachnids but they didn't seem threated by the large bulky sword.

The first of the duo came at him with its fangs seething with a sort of translucent liquid foaming around its mouth. Lindow kicked the fiend in the head as the aura from his armor dispersed signaling he could make an accurate attack and he then buried his sword in its abdomen cutting away as its armor like exoskeleton. Lindow released the arachnid as it hissed and attempted to strike at his feet before moving back for its ally to engage him. The Crimson Blades member turned his blade broadside out as the second spider bounced its head off the surface attempting to take a chunk of his health points by attacking his leg. Sweeping the blade around and creating an arc, it landed on his shoulder. So far so good, the battle was in his favor but these things seemed to be angry and they would not let their meal get away from them so easily should he decide to run. Lindow narrowed his cold eyes over the two spiders, the caverns seem to shake with an ominous feeling of foreboding as he checked his surroundings. He just prayed he would survive this nightmarish battle and find a way out. Already he was in over his head.

There was a pain as the first spider broke through his armor and bit down into his leg. He attempted to swing his sword, but the wild nature of his swing caused him to miss. The sharp sting of the bite made him dropp to one knee. The other spider lunged at him with much force and he fell backwards as he was clawed heavily by the thick spear like legs of the insects. His HP quickly dropped down losing a chunk of life. Lindow grit his teeth as he slammed his blade down on the ground and attempted to erect his form. He was now back up to the wall with no where to run. He could still make the slope by taking some damage of the spiders and diving down the shaft. That was one plan he was thinking about doing, this was getting dangerous even with the <<Heavy Momentum>> in place, missing too often would prove fatal. He steeled his nerves and readied his blade once more, his eyes intensified as he steadied his breathing.

"Alright...it's clear you have the advantage over me...But I won't give in..."

As the enemy advanced so did Lindow, he crossed his blade vertically with both hands and the Hard Edge slammed into the ground before him causing the one advancing spider to stop. He turned the blade a quarter and swung once more away from it as he hefted the heavy blade over his shoulder. The insectoid inspected the situation and noticed the armor was glowing once again from his missed attack. Backing up, it pattern changed and ejected a web bullet in his direction. Moving his head quickly to the side he was able to avoid the attack. The spiders seem to chatter back and forth once more as they were planning there next attack. Lindow slammed his blade into the ground and it skid across the flooring with chunks of rock and debris being uplifted into the air causing the insects to back up once again. He advanced on them getting closer to the slope, just in case he had to make that dive. At this time, his armor was pulsating a louder crimson aura around it from the last two misses of his attacks. He hefted the blade ot one shoulder again and took a ready stance to attack at a moments notice.

The first spider blitzed Lindow with a panic as it was clearly injured by the way its attacking pattern had changed. The sharp spear like leg of the insect came forward and jabbed Lindow in the chest, but the heavy plate armor he wore was too much and deflected the impact. Lindow attempted to make a swinging attack with his blade, but the arc was too wide and ended up hitting nothing but the air around him. The swoosh of the blade came back around and landed on his shoulder where he hefted the heavy sword. The second spider charged after him and broke through his defense, causing him to stumble backwards abit from the attack. The Crimson Blades' Grand Secretary was on his last legs as well as he watched his HP bar take another hit. Cursing to himself, which was out of character for him, he soldiered on and took a step forward once more towards the slope. By the next turn he could make a dive attempt for it should thngs get too dangerous.

Lindow pushed froward through the first spider as it meancingly took a step forward and attempted to scare off the human. Lindow was not having any of that and ended up kicking it in the head just to teach it who's boss. It didn't cuase any damage, but he wanted to make sure it knew it was becoming an annoyance. As he swung his blade through the air, he attempted to strike the other spider that was advancing on him. His plated armor once more was struck by the second spider but the activation of his thorns pricked the body of the arachnid as it scurried behind its friend. Lindow was unfortunate as it was able to take another blow to his Hit Points. Rattled by the attack, Lindow had almost slipped. His hand reached forward as he steadied himself and brought his form back up to erect himself. Balancing once more, he readied his blade over his shoulder and grit his teeth.
