[SP - F6] It's a Battlefield [COMPLETE]

Takao had spent a large portion of his time over the past few days mulling over the specifics of his build, which was something he hadn't put more forethought into. His latest excursion to the fourth floor had spurred on his deep thinking on the matter, which had previously just been glanced over. He hadn't been taking skills at random, and while his build seemed to work fine for most situations, he had started to notice a lot of holes that needed to be patched. Unfortunately for his progress, those holes required the most time consuming commodity to require: skill points, and a lot of them. He wasn't expecting to perfect the build overnight, it was likely to take him several months to finish, but the end result that he'd calculated made it worth pursuing.

The pursuit of skill points was precisely what had brought him to the sixth floor. He had departed from the village only known to him as "Amazon" and delved into the jungle themed wilderness with his familiar in tow. He glanced down to the draconic monster as it walked beside him and exhaled a breath. "We've got a lot of work ahead of us, buddy." He said, his tone almost sounding a bit defeated. The enormity of the task at hand was great and intimidating, and his persistence was considerably more stubborn than his optimism at this point.

"Alright dude, same deal as the last time. I'll handle the fighting, you just try to stay out of it's range." Takao's plan, as they usually were, was quite simple. As he said to his familiar, he planned to do the entirety of the fighting during their time on the floor, mostly due to his familiar's incompetence when it came to combat. The small red monster was given the simple task of not getting itself killed. It was risky business having his familiar on the front lines, and he needed to make sure they were both prepared for the dangers that lay ahead. These small combat simulations would help initiate his familiar into the world of combating its brethren, which it seemed to have no problem with.

The sixth floor's humidity was an incredibly odd sensation, given the NerveGear's inability to replicate the feeling of water and moisture perfectly. It was indescribable beyond the discomfort it created for anybody who wandered around the jungle, such as Takao, who never dealt with severe weather or environments well. It was a wonder he didn't just shut down given how miserable he felt. An environment that fit his definition of "too cold" or "too hot" were unbearable and absolutely dismal for him to endure, yet somehow he managed to maintain a certain amount of composure as he walked. He knew that lowering his guard while wandering around in the monster-infested wilderness was practically an open invitation for death.

Standing only ten meters in front of Takao and his familiar was a monster of indescribable nature. It was a combination of mud, sticks, branches, leaves, and so many other elements of the jungle that it only formed an animated pile of muck. He glanced to the name of the monster and found it to be both the most fitting as well as the most descriptive - "the Bog Monstrosity". Several tendrils of mud, what Takao presumed to be limbs, jutted out from each side. It didn't have eyes, a nose, a mouth, or really anything to indicate a face, yet Takao swore he could feel its gaze on him.  "It's showtime, buddy."

Takao's familiar quickly moved aside as its brown-haired companion prepared to engage the monster. His glove-clad hand lifted to grasp the handle of his sword and pull it free of the scabbard as he began to traverse the short distance between them. Vines, roots, and large foliage covered the forest floor that he tread over to close the distance and initiate the fight, making for a rather treacherous battlefield. Before the monster could react, Takao was upon it, and his blade had already cleaved through its side as he moved from what he believed to be its front to its left flank.

Fighting only one monster at a time seemed to be where Takao excelled at the most, despite whatever talents he might have held with multitasking. The monster lashed out at him with tendrils that stretched and contorted like elastic, which allowed the monster made of mud and debris to whip at Takao from a multitude of different directions. The brunet didn't seem to have a problem with dodging through the use of acrobatics feats, even going so far as to leap over a swiping tendril with an over-the-top butterfly kick just for the sake of his own entertainment. His blade sliced through the monster as if it were a solid entity, and not the viscous mess that it looked to be.

Takao's assault on the monstrous bog beast was unrelenting in both ferocity as well as effectiveness. Despite its best efforts, the indescribably disgusting monster struggled to even get close to landing a blow on Takao, who utilized his superior mobility and evasiveness to dodge and evade every attempt made to strike him. He continued to circle around the beast while evading, landing small blows all over its surprisingly solid surface that were slowly adding up to a fair amount of damage. His motions weren't as simple as he would've liked, as he was forced to continuously dodge the seemingly endless onslaught of whipping tendrils.

Like all good things, Takao's continuous hit-spree was bound to come to an end. He had made a slight misstep and lost his footing upon landing back on the ground following a skillful dodge, one that had saved him from sustaining damage at the metaphorical hands of the bog monstrosity. Unfortunately, upon landing in a rather compromising position that left him unable to evade, the bog monstrosity had managed to grab hold of his ankle and hoist him into the air. His arms fell limp, though his hand still grasped the hilt of his sword to keep a firm hold. He glanced down at the bog monster, whose mouth had finally been revealed to have several menacing rows of teeth amidst the branches and twigs that protruded from its body.

Takao's gaze set on the monster's several rows of teeth as its formerly hidden mouth opened wide. His precarious position of being held above the monster's gaping "jaws" was vastly displeasing, so he decided to remedy the situation with a well placed strike to the viscous tendril that held him in the air. His blade cut through the arm-width extremity and began to fall after swinging himself forward just a bit. His feet hit the monster's side first, then he ducked into a roll and tumbled along the side. His blade cut the monster a few times on the way down, inflicting small bits of damage here and there.

His feet touched the ground upon exiting his successful tumble, and he was already moving in the following instant. Staying mobile seemed like the best way to avoid the monster as it slowly turned in the direction that he circled, trying to get a lock on his exact position but failing in comparison to Takao's speed. His blade plunged into the monster again and tore away another sizable chunk of health. In doing so, he unintentionally opened himself up to be struck in retaliation, though the damage inflicted at the hands of the monster was minuscule enough to be healed by his <<Battle Healing>> skill.

After sustaining the hit and damage, and then immediately healing the damage afterward, Takao returned to the offensive. He cleared the distance between where he had landed to the monster quickly, and his blade found its way back to slicing away at the monster's health. The bar continued to drop, yet the beast still had plenty to spare. He sustained another hit, though this time his battle healing skill hadn't had the time to activate right away. He backed off the monster for a minute to regain his bearings.

The bog monstrosity and Takao had dissolved into exchanging petty hits unto one another as the fight raged on. Although Takao's health was dwarfed in comparison to the large oozing pile of mud and debris, his armour more than made up for the difference. It only helped that the beast's damage was already quite low, which brought damage he was sustaining to an absolute minimum. His damage more than made up for that difference however, and given that the monster itself didn't have any means of dampening the brunet's blows, the battle was looking to be incredibly one-sided.

Another exchange of blows between the two left the oozing bog monstrosity with significantly less health in comparison to what Takao himself had lost. He exhaled a groan of slight frustration after having sustained damage from several consecutive attacks at the metaphorical hands of the beast in front of him. Takao inwardly cursed his battle healing skill for its picky timing, though it wasn't such a big deal that he had begun to worry. Even if things continued in the same manner that they were, he would still have no problem with dispatching the monster before his health dropped too low.

Takao narrowly avoided a massive sweeping attack through the usage of his acrobatics skill, which afforded him the physical ability to perform flashy acrobatics in conjunction with his augmented jump capabilities. The momentum from his leg kicking up over his head carried his body in an arc over the incoming vine, dropping onto his feet safely shortly afterward. He prepared a simple sword skill and unleashed it upon the monster immediately upon landing again, not wanting to allow the monstrosity any more opportunities to attack.

As was his usual tactic in battle, Takao's offensiveness was unrelenting in both force and ferocity. The monster was afforded no opportunity to attack, only to try and ultimately fail to defend itself. His speed and skill in evasive tactics allowed him to remain unscathed as his << Battle Healing >> skill recovered the last of the damage he had sustained, though he had doubts that it he would end up untouched before the battle was over. His blade, guided by the system's expertise, found its way back into the monster and tore through more of its health, leaving it only a few well-placed strikes away from being defeated.

Despite not having a visible mouth, let alone anything reminiscent of a face, Takao could still feel the monster's gaze piercing through him, and he could hear a low rumble emanating from beyond the muddy ooze that made up the entirety of its body. He shrugged off the unease, readied his blade to strike, and began his rapid approach. Just like the countless times before, his blade ripped through the surprisingly solid-yet-viscous looking body of the monster and tore more of the orange coloured bar from its gauge.

The Bog Monstrosity swung a barrage of countless seemingly glutinous tendrils in Takao's direction, yet each of the monster's prehensile extremities were dodged with an exceptionally efficient combination of needlessly flashy acrobatic feats and well placed defensive cuts to bat away whatever managed to come close. He chuckled inwardly at his actions, which were very clear to be intentionally overconfident. He wasn't usually one to show off in front of others, but since his only audience was the animated pile of debris and his familiar which had perched itself on a low-hanging branch and nearly fallen asleep, it didn't seem like it would be of any harm. Takao's blade chewed through the monster's side again and left it positively riddled with cuts and other marks of damage, whereas Takao seemed mostly unscathed.

The bog monstrosity that more or less "stood" before Takao was a mixture of glowing red wounds and oozing brown sludge by now. The brunet's unrelenting offensive had left it with such a narrow window to attack that the monster seemed to forego the opportunity entirely, and instead attempt to focus on defending itself. The success of said defensive was far from exemplary, and the point was driven home as Takao plunged his blade into the sludgy body, shredding away its health with yet another well placed sword skill. He had been keeping a close eye on how much damage he dealt, and from what information he had gathered by doing so, it seemed as though the monster had less than two hits worth of health remaining.

Had Takao the time to look at the in-game clock, he might have been able to get a more accurate gauge of how long he had spent fighting the monster. It hadn't felt like long, but the stress of combat was debilitating and could easily deceive the senses. His perception of time was already deplorable at best, he couldn't even for the life of him begin to imagine how long it had been since the entire death game ordeal had begun. Yet even so, Takao continued to hack away at the beast's health through the medium of well-placed hits along its defenceless sides. The health gauge, which had previously been yellow in colour, had changed to a deep red to signify the beast's near-death state.

With one final use of a sword skill, Takao's blade was hefted up above his head. It crashed down upon the bog monstrosity, and despite the very clear difference in their sizes, his sword nearly split the entire being in two. It froze in place as its health dropped, then it flickered away like a digital error. The beast's body broke apart and scattered little translucent polygons into the air, signifying its defeat. Takao exhaled a breath and glanced over to his familiar, who unenthusiastic ally and seemingly sarcastically applauded his victory. Takao rolled his eyes and collected his reptilian companion before heading back in the direction of the floor's main settlement for some much needed rest and respite.
