[SP - F3] Facta non verba [COMPLETE]

Recommended Posts

The birds on the third floor were quite loud in the early morning hours, and their calls were heard all the better through his open window. Takao's eyes slowly opened and, despite the immediate desire he felt to return to sleep, he slowly rose to a seated position. He exhaled a long yawn and groaned as his legs swung out from beneath the covers and made contact with the rug on his floor. His arms stretched skyward as he stood, then moved to scratch his bare back. A new day meant new opportunities, but first, he would have to complete his usual routine for the morning. Through the use of his menu, Takao dressed himself in his armour and equipped himself with his weapon before heading out of his two-story shop and toward the wilderness. His focus today would be materials, which he planned on using to prepare for the upcoming boss fight.

Having made his way from the peaceful and serene town of Delilah into the harsh wilderness that surrounded the old-English styled settlement, Takao quickly found himself amidst a small sea of monsters. Four of them had appeared as if from nowhere, and all eight glowing red eyes were set on his person. He had the forethought to draw his blade before progressing into the more dangerous zones that the floor had to offer, so he wasn't caught completely off guard. Now surrounded by the large monsters that were very clearly inspired by praying mantises, only on a much larger scale, Takao prepared a sword art that he knew would fit the situation perfectly. His blade began to glow a bright red, and upon unleashing his control to the system, his blade found its way into each of the four monsters. When his attack subsided and the small bits of dust settled, each of the four monsters took turns bursting into translucent polygons.

Takao wasn't given a moment to rest before even more monsters had descended upon him. Four monsters now stood to his front, all of them nearly identical in design to the previous horde that had surrounded him only moments prior. A quick test of his sword's weight via twirling his wrist gave him a bit of confidence in his remaining energy levels. His green eyes looked between the various menacing sets of red that glared back at him, each watching him for an opportunity to attack while he did the same to them. Having quickly grown tired by their very brief stalemate, Takao shifted his stance and assumed the necessary position to active the pre-motion of a familiar sword skill. A mere second had passed before his blade, with the assistance of the system, found its way into each of the four monsters that surrounded him. Their health was practically instantaneously reduced to nothing by the increased power of the sword art, and each of the four mantis-esque beasts took turns erupting into colourful shards of scattering data. He glanced down at the prompt that opened and glanced over the contents before closing it seconds later.

Having defeated eight monsters in rapid succession, Takao felt the fatigue of his exertion quickly catching up. It wasn't total exhaustion, that much he was sure of, but it was significant enough for him to put a little extra effort into avoiding combat until he felt his energy return. Instead of hunting himself into the ground while tired, he opted for a more peaceful yet still productive approach, and decided to scope out the landscape for useful crafting materials. Given the theme of the floor, most of what he could find amidst the fields and forest were almost exclusively for alchemical purposes. He located a resource node in the form of a collection of interesting plants, and began to harvest them.

Takao finished collecting the resource node and watched the remainders of the materials, which were only the stalks of the plants he had harvested, disappear into the familiar translucent shards of data that signified an object's health or durability reaching zero. After a quick yet thorough check of his inventory's contents, which had become considerably more cluttered over the past few days while preparing for the boss fight, he continued on and returned to the search for materials while his energy slowly recovered.

With how little time he'd actually spent in combat, restoring his energy wasn't difficult for his body to do in the slightest. Had he been fighting for longer, it might've become an issue to try and regenerate it in a timely manner, but before long he was already up and ready to fight again. He had moved away from looking for materials in favour of searching for another group of monsters to wipe out, which wouldn't be too difficult given the floor's general difficulty curve when it came to monster statistics. Before long, he spotted another group of the same kind of enemies he'd been fighting thus far. With his sword in hand, he prepared to engage.

Like so many other floors, the abundance of monsters available to choose from was vast. Not many of the floors were exceptionally expansive in their geography, yet with such treacherous terrain coupled with potentially dangerous monsters lurking around every corner and behind every obstacle, they were often quite difficult to traverse despite their size - making the floors seem much larger than they were in reality. Luckily, for Takao, the lower floors hadn't been an issue of his for quite some time. They were, in fact, excellent low-risk locations to hunt for materials. Given his claim to buy all the items that the alchemist, who he had only met briefly, made while crafting the few specific crystals he'd requested, an abundance of currency would undoubtedly be necessary. Takao had asked for the best after all, and the best very rarely came without a few failures along the way. Even so, he was sure that every little bit would help regardless, so he had every intention of staying true to his word.

In mere moments, he was amidst the enemies he had been planning to hunt. Four of them in total, a group just like the last few, and just enough for him to take out with one well timed sword art. He wasted no time in its preparation and unleashed the system's wrath upon each of the eight-or-so foot tall mantis-esque monsters. In the wake of his system-assisted attack, only dispersing pixels and a window displaying the spoils of his efforts remained.

In the wake of the four monster's defeat, a fifth had appeared to challenge the tiring brunet. He exhaled a slight grumble in quiet protest and readied his sword despite not being entirely willing to fight. The scythe-armed insectoid monster charged him before he had the mind to react, and swung its bladed limb down at him. He caught the blow with his shoulder, and a combination of his armour's enhancements as well as his armour skill itself softened the damage to be next to nothing. With one of the monster's only methods of assault in a bind, Takao prepared his blade to use a sword art by specifically positioning his body in a certain way. His sword was thrust at the monster a total of seven times with exceptional speed and precision, tracing the pattern of a certain constellation upon the monster's body with hit marks. In the following seconds, the mantis-esque creature burst into hundreds of pieces, signifying Takao's victory.

Takao straightened his posture after the system released control of his body following the usage of his sword art and glanced down at the menu. As was the usual case, he received a few crafting materials from his earlier battles, and quite a few of them too. A quick look into his inventory revealed fifteen resources that were previously unaccounted for, as well as a few more healing items than he remembered taking with him. He still had plenty of room left in his inventory before he went over his equip load, as he had been preparing for such a haul.

The field that Takao decided to hunt in had fallen silent after his most recent clash. None of the monsters seemed to be spawning back in just yet, and while it wasn't usually a good idea to rest in an area with respawning monsters that could easily just simply appear and attack, Takao was confident enough in his ability to sustain a substantial amount of damage before they'd be able to notably reduce his health. He stuck his sword in the grass and dropped to lay supine beside it, settling for the shaded area beneath a tree for the venue of his momentary respite.

Ten minutes had gone by before Takao heard the first sounds of the monsters beginning to respawn. His left eye opened and glanced forward to notice a few more monsters in the distance, wandering around mindlessly and waiting for a player to come by for a spot of hunting. A yawn escaped from deep within his chest before his upper body rose up into a seated position. He reached back and grabbed the handle of his sword, hefted it from the ground, and began his advance toward the monsters. He still had quite a bit of work to do before his morning routine would be finished.

As Takao had been expecting, a group of four monsters stood before him. His presence went unbeknownst to them until his feet shifted apart and his body assumed a certain specific stance to allow for the assistance of a sword art. By the time the monsters turned and prepared to engage him, it was already too late. His blade began to glow a mixture of blue and violet, a bit of foreshadowing to the general theme of the sword art. He leapt up and preformed a rather unnecessary acrobatic feat while under the influence of the system, though he was rather partial to the usage of his acrobatics skill, so the flashy maneuvering didn't bother him too much. As his body descended, he positioned his blade so that it sank into the earth upon landing on the grass. Sparks of electricity shot from the point of impact, literally shocking the monsters while simultaneously damaging them. He pulled his blade free when their health gauges all dropped to zero, and one by one they began disappearing. His eyes fell to the menu as it opened in front of him, to which he quickly dismissed.

The usage of «Lightning Fall» left him drained of energy, and rightfully so. It was his strongest sword art that targeted multiple enemies, which also happened to made it the most taxing for him to use. Yet it was well worth the exhaustion after he gave his inventory a quick glance. Eight new materials sat comfortably within the confines of his menu, as well as a small bulk of col.

Takao closed out of his inventory and glanced around the fields that were empty once more. The monsters seemed to be spawning in with groups of four, which was incredibly convenient given the limitations of his AOE. With a bit of down time on his hands, he opted to rest up and prepare for another assault. He wagered that another hour or so of grinding would be sufficient.

The wilderness of Aincrad, and more specifically the wilderness of the third floor didn't provide much opportunity for respite. Before long, another horde of monsters had begun to spawn one by one, slowly retaking their numbers. No other players seemed to be gathered around this particular hunting grounds, so Takao had the entirety of the fields to himself. He raised his sword and prepared to engage them yet again.

Another horde of monsters standing before him meant yet another opportunity to acquisition some more materials and col. He didn't waste time with engaging them, having come to the conclusion that the faster he defeated them the faster he could return to his shop for some much needed rest. He poised his blade in such a way that the length of steel began to glow a mixture of blue and purple. He preformed another unnecessarily flashy acrobatic feat that launched his body into the air, and as he made contact with the ground a short instant later, his blade pierced the soil and sent out sparks of electricity in every direction. The sparks reached and electrocuted the mantis-like monsters, easily reducing their health down to nothing.

Takao recovered from his sword art's post-motion and straightened his back. Another four monsters had been banished to oblivion via his blade, and another load of col and materials sat within the safety of his inventory. He hadn't bothered to reopen the menu to check what exactly he'd gotten, as the rewards menu that had opened upon defeating the monsters displayed the spoils of his battle.

The monsters that had begun to spawn were as unimaginative as the last groups - carbon copies of their fallen insectoid brethren. Not enough had spawned yet to justify engaging them with another sword art, especially since he'd determined that only his strongest area-of-effect sword arts was enough to take them down with one hit, and his current energy levels wouldn't even permit him to use it once.

Takao waited out the monster's respawning period until another group of four was mindlessly wandering around the otherwise empty fields. His brown combat boots waded through the sea of dandelions as he approached the monsters, blade in hand and ready for what he'd decided to be the last engagement for his morning routine. Regardless of what the monsters yielded as a result of their defeat, he planned on returning to his shop for some much needed respite.

Takao made quick work of the four praying mantis inspired monsters. Despite their attempts to strike him with their scythe-like limbs, he had little issue with evading them. The monsters entered a brief period of inactivity following their failed attacks, which presented the brunet with an opportunity to use a sword art. Not one to squander such an opportunity, Takao poised his blade in such a way that the sword began to glow a colourful mixture of purples and blues. He released control of his body to the system and allowed himself to be guided through a minor acrobatic feat, in the form of a jump and mid-air flip, before landing and thrusting the tip of his blade into the soil beneath him. Sparks of electricity jumped and arced in every direction, effectively shocking and damaging the four monsters that surrounded him simultaneously. They took turns exploding into colourful polygons before dissipating into nothingness, leaving Takao along with the menu that displayed the results of the battle. He dismissed the prompt after a quick glance and began heading back toward the village of Delilah.
