[SP-F3] Not A Lot Else To Do - Worn out Welcome [Complete!]

Recommended Posts

Kalesh was resting in his inn room on the sixth floor, sighing softly to himself while he thought about what to do today. He had breakfast, and now he just needed to decide what adventures he would have today. That said he felt lazy and having glanced at his equipment, it didn't particularly match him anymore. After the system update which gave him a chance to start fresh he had opted to choose light armor, and yet the only armor he owned was heavy. He hummed in thought as a faint memory tugged at the back of his mind and so he went through his inventory and retrieved a few books from information brokers so he could figure out what it was that he had almost remembered. It had to do with armor and a quest he thought to himself while flipping through the pages.

After about a dozen minutes of looking he found what he had been looking for, the name causing a click in his brain so the memories started to rise to the surface. "Worn out Welcome" he repeated softly. He figured it was a lame thing to do, reading exactly how to do a quest, so he only looked at the location and the reward before shutting the book and putting the rest into his inventory not long after. He spent a moment considering if he should bring a friend before shaking his head, not wanting to trouble them over something this trivial on a floor so low. With a dramatic sigh he pushed himself out of bed and headed straight for the teleport plaza. He took a breath and recited the command and before long he was standing on the third floor and looking around to get his bearings.

Having realigned himself mentally after the change in location, temperature, and climate, he glanced at the map he had opened and eventually found his way at the forge that the NPCs held ownership over. Taking a breath and closing up most of his menus he steps inside and glances around. It was a humble enough place, had all the tools required and not a lot else. He could dig it.  Before Kalesh could even open his mouth a female NPC stepped in front of him and asked "Let me guess, here for some armor?" Kalesh wasn't wearing his metal armor since it didn't do him much good except weighing him down, so Kalesh nodded, cut off again, this time by a male voice. "Well, come on over and tell me what you want made then!" Kalesh fought the very present desire to sigh at his inability to get a word in edge-wise but nodded and stepped to the NPC and started to describe what he wanted made.

After rattling off the specifics the male smith simply said "Gotcha, a red leather jacket, I can do that." The smith nodded his head and continued on "In payment, I want you to get back a smithing material a knife-ear stole from us." Kalesh raised a brow at the familiar term for elf and grinned at the fact the NPC could make leather, breaking the rules but thankfully since he was an NPC he could cheat. "Ah, I see." Kalesh stated before adding "Where can I find the elf?" The smith simply stated "In the misty forests." Kalesh waited a moment to see if he had more to reveal before asking "That's it?" With curt nod the NPC returned to his work, hammering at a piece of metal on his anvil. Rather aware he had been dismissed Kalesh nodded, considering the quest accepted as he stepped out of the shop, hearing the female NPC call "Best of luck!" to Kalesh as he left, making the player grin.

Kalesh took many slow breaths to keep himself calm as he approached the woods. There were many bad rumors about that place, screams and they there was a minotaur guarding the place. For these reasons Kalesh entered the woods warily, eyes constantly scanning for any sign of his prey or for any possible obstacles. Ever since the moment he passed the capital's threshold he had his blade drawn, but now he had his hand gripping the handle tighter. His long distance vision was decreased but he could still see things that were near him just fine. He walked deeper and deeper into the forest while trying to listen closely for anything you'd expect in a movie like a twig snapping.

Kalesh has been exploring the woods for about an hour, eyes constantly searching and glancing towards any noise that was made. A fair bit into the distance he heard was sounded like pebbles being pressed down on by a foot. Suddenly alerted to the presence of another he shot his eyes wide and turned on his heel, gasping as he swung his sword just in time to deflect an incoming throwing knife! The Dark Elf had tried to ambush him but failed rather badly. As his eyes focused he made out the female form of the night elf in grey leather clothes, perhaps to blend into the mist. Before she had a chance to escape though, Kalesh charged at the NPC without hesitation, certain it was his target. He charged his sword art as he closed the distance, strangely the hilt glowing rather than the blade. A moment later Kalesh was beating the elf into the dirt with the most blunt part of his weapon. The first blow half killed the NPC, the second finished the job, the third and fourth merely ensured what was already true and so the hostile NPC shattered apart and left Kalesh with the quest item, as well as a free material! He felt a bit guilty about murdering the NPC, but his icon was green so he took that as a good sign before he opened his map to return to where he had come from.

As Kalesh stepped out of the forest and quite frankly as far from it as he could get, he took a moment to check the time. Not a lot of time had passed, if he just walked straight back he would find himself with a lot of spare time on his hands. He was out in the field, he was free, so he decided he would hand in the quest later in the afternoon. Nothing on this floor was overly dangerous so he felt a little bit of security as he started to look around for any materials or mobs he could kill/gather from. He saw a rocky outcropping in the distance and started towards it, digging through the rocky rubble around it for any materials he could make use of but finding nothing particularly helpful.

With his first attempt at finding a material ending unsatisfactory he decided to try again elsewhere, moving to a tree that wasn't far off, inspecting the trunk and roots for anything that might have been use, or a hole where something could have been hiding. This went on for several minutes until he sighed and looked down at the necklace he was wearing. "You aren't running out of juice, are you?" He chuckled softly, aware it was only an uncommon so he would need to consider getting an upgrade when he could afford such a luxury. For the time being though, it served its purpose very admirably!

With two failures, he decided to recite encouraging words to himself to convince him that his luck was just about to turn around or something like that. "Third time's the charm" being the most obvious choice and the one he decided he was going to say aloud in more than a slight whisper. The moment his mouth shut though his eyes noticed a small beetle skittering away the noise! Kalesh leaped after the beetle with a grunt as he hit the ground, holding his hands cupped with wide eyes as he slowly opened his hands to see if he caught the creature, only to find himself empty handed, evoking a sigh of dissatisfaction from the red haired player.

Kalesh had decided to take a breather. No point in over exerting himself or something like that. In that line of thought, he simply rolled over and rested in the sun, sighing softly while he shut his eyes and waited for him to feel his patience to return to full. Just to be safe he kept listening for any signs of footsteps or being approached, because the last thing he particularily wanted was to get ambushed and killed on a floor quite this low. He could understand dying from a mistake on a floor his own level, but the third floor was not quite up to the power he had thanks to his scimitar backing him up with its enhancements.

His eyes shot wide open when he heard footsteps, it seemed what he didn't want to happen most was indeed what was about to happen, hoping it was just a bunch of wolves or something rather than a PK group he draws his scimitar from his back while getting himself up and onto his feet. It only took him a moment to realize what was going on when he was surrounded by four dark elves of differing gender and sizes. All of them had drawn weapons and anger in their eyes. He figured they must have been upset they he had slain their friend and somehow tracked down that it was him. He didn't pretend to understand how they even realized she was dead but those were thoughts for later, they were closing in on him, probably to try and use their superior numbers to overpower him! Kalesh dodged and weaved his way through stabs and slashes while trying to find out what to do. Soon he remembered he had sword arts, the new system still taking learning, and so he charged the art, his blade glowing a light blue before Kalesh spun rapidly, the blade slashing through the four elves in rapid succession until they all shattered much like their ex-comrade. Kalesh panted softly as the art used up a large part of his energy, but it was definitely worth it compared to taking the unmitigated damage if he didn't attack. It seemed that they all had items to share as well, somewhat thankful for that as he took a moment to catch his breath and make sure no other attackers were about to swoop upon him.

Using the momentary respite he had, he took a nice long breath to get some of his stamina back before he surveyed the area around him once again, deciding he should change location in case more were coming. They weren't a supreme threat, just when faced back-to-back would they really pose a problem. With that in mind he figure he should probably try to get to the other side of the map where they probably would not aggro to. He wasn't even sure if there were more elves after him or not, but he wasn't taking the risk in either case so he spent the next few hours just running away from the forest he suspected they had also emerged from. After finally finding a nice hidden away corner of the map he sighed and slumped himself down onto his butt for a rest, catching his breath from his 'jog'. A moment later he was letting himself flop backwards to lay his back against a nearby rock before a shock hit his nerves, making him look back to see a jagged piece of crystal poking out of the stone, making him tch before he tugged it out with a hard pull, blinking when it actually worked, figuring the green shining crystal must have been a material. He shrugged his shoulders and put it into his inventory before resting back once again.

After catching his breath and ensuring that he was not being chased he was able to return to what he had been doing before the angry mob chased him off. Finding materials from the local area! He spent the first little while looking for materials on the ground, but not having the greatest amount of luck in that regard. Not long after though, he found something that had him raising a brow. He knew this was an MMO, so recolors would happen, but four of them in the same area? Like a pack? Not far from him he could see four wolves pathfinding around, each one of them a bright neon color. "Oh, well this won't do..." He mutters to himself while drawing his sword, sighing as he ran towards the wolves and charged his sword art. The last thing this world needed in his mind was these things reproducing, so he planned to wipe them out in one fell swoop! When the sword art triggered, he was in the center of the pack and started to spin! Three cuts hit each wolf, destroying the three primary colored monsters and the odd green one. Moments later he got several chunks of wolf meat added into his inventory, making him realize he was really making a profit!... Then the exhaustion kicked in. He fell to his knees and started to pant heavily while waiting for his energy to return to him, having thoroughly exhausted himself. "Oof... Worth it~!" He muttered to himself while fighting the urge to pass out.

Kalesh slowly felt himself becoming less tired, his energy restoring a bit at a time as he pushed himself up onto his knees and sheathed his large scimitar so he had his hands free. He made his way over to a nearby tree and pushed his back against it, propping himself up as he panted a while longer and regained his composure. If another group struck him in the next little while he would probably be very vulnerable to getting beaten down. That was something he certainly didn't want to happen, keeping his HP high was a certain priority, without a doubt. Dying happens otherwise, and there was no respawn timer waiting for him on the other side.

Feeling his breath coming back to him he glances around before deciding her wanted to get a better look at the area, turning around to face the tree he had been resting against and climbing his way up. Once he was about midway up the tree he glanced around to see how much more of the horizon he got see. It seemed to him that the elves had indeed given up on the prospect of chasing him down. He was rather thankful of this, Now he just hoped that the stigma would just magically vanish if he left this floor long enough. The last thing he really wanted was to have a racial faction on him all the way to floor one hundred.

Kalesh stayed up in the tree until he was certain it was safe to come down and he had restored all of his lost stamina by resting long enough. Slowly lowering himself down so not to take fall damage he stretched himself out when his feet reached the ground. He decided to glance up into the corner of his HUD and sure enough, there was still some daylight left for him to burn. He didn't know how many more materials he could find in the time given to him but if he kept his eyes open he was sure something would have shown up for him to take home with him.

Kalesh figured a good spot to start his search for materials was the place he was at this vary moment, circling the area around the nearby tree with his eyes firmly placed downward in case anything stood out or caught his eye. This went on for about five minutes before he shrugged his shoulders and decided to keep wandering along through the plains. He made certain though not to approach the woods, that place freaked him out for one reason or another, probably more a product of the rumors than anything factual like the dark elves who had tried to murder him at least twice today.

Kalesh blinked as he suddenly felt the desire to yawn, his hand lifting up to his mouth as his eyes shut in reflex as his body forced the action. When he opened his eyes he realized he was falling forward! He yelped in surprise as he thumped into the dirt and sighed softly before looking down to his legs to see what happened. "Ah." He had tripped on an exposed root. After spending a moment in consideration he reached down and grabbed the root, tugging hard and unearthing the chunk of plant in vengeance, adding it to his inventory just to wait and see the day where he got to use it to his advantage in something.

Standing himself back up and brushing any virtual dirt off his shirt and pants he sighed as he made sure the fall hadn't done any damage, just because he is paranoid, and then continued along in his wanderings. It soon occurred to him that it was getting closer and closer to time for him to turn the items in. He was more concerned the shop would close early, he hadn't looked at the time it would close, it just wasn't a concern to him. With that settled her turned and began the walk back to town after his long trip away from the usual areas.

He was humming a tune to himself as he walked along, gradually making his way towards the city so he could get himself a new piece of armor, even if it was just a temporary item to tide him over until his orders were done. Just as he was approaching the gates he noticed a few normal colored wolves, no neon colors between the pack. While he was thankful for this, he also figured that a little extra materials would not hurt in the long run. With that in mind he grins and charges into the center of the wolves, gaining the ire of the entire small pack and he charged the sword art he had been abusing the entire day! Swiftly he spun three times with his scimitar out to slice and dice the enemies that had begun to charge at him. With a gasp to get his air back he confirmed in his inventory they all dropped him some furs. How nice of them!
