About: History/Personality

As a child, Hikaru was always abused by his parents. Verbally, mentally, emotionally - You name it, it's there. Despite it, however, his parents did ensure that he went to school and had basic needs met. That was all. They didn't even bother to put him into a good school - He was constantly bullied and harassed in school. The teachers were kind to him, however, and a few classmates did stick up for him. It was from there that his personality started to form.

For 11 long years, Hikaru went to school and managed a part-time job. He finished each grade at the top of his class, despite the state of his life. By then, he'd started lashing out at whoever bullied him, excluding his parents, and he kept the people that stood up for him close. He became known to many as a person you wouldn't want to cross - Hikaru nearly knocked someone unconscious for bullying him, and felt nothing. The day after, his victim overdramaticized the incident, saying that Hikaru had a gun and threatened to shoot him if he had ever bullied the person again. Of course, Hikaru didn't mind - It did work in his favour, after all. From then on, he's been alone, save for a select few people.

From the disarray of his life, his Black Knight Complex formed, and he even went by a motto, not that anyone knew it. "Do nothing without reason, but do everything you can to achieve." It was with this motto that his efforts finally paid off - He had heard about the NerveGear and immediately bought it using the money accumulated from his part-time job. He had saved up the spare cash, and once Sword Art Online came out, he had bought it without hesitating.

Hikaru is a man who treasures his time in the virtual world. The virtual world, to him at least, is a place to get out of the living underworld his life is. However, this does not mean he changes in personality - He still has that Black Knight Complex from real life, and is just as antisocial, if not more. Little does he know that all that will change soon.

Virtues:

Kind to Close Friends: Hikaru doesn't let people close easily, but once you do, he takes off his sarcastic and often rude persona in exchange for a more kind, gentle and caring persona. This is most often done in private - When in public, Hikaru will appear as bitingly sarcastic as he is with strangers, solely because of his reluctance for others to get to know him.

Black Knight Complex: Hikaru will do what he thinks is right. That much is set in stone. However - What he does to actually meet those ends can vary. For one, he can use a way which is morally justt, and that will often be his first course of action. However, failure to meet his goal using a morally justified way will result in him stripping morals from his plan. This is when you see the slightly more psychopathic side of him.

Loyalty: As mentioned above, Hikaru will do what he thinks is right. However - If a single person dares to offend those close to him, no matter what the reason, that person is in for a lot of suffering. Hikaru's loyalty is very persistent - If you were to compare it to the phoenix, it would only be a tad less undying than the bird. However, despite how much it takes for Hikaru to lose loyalty towards his friends, and also friendship with other people, the chance is still there.
Flaws:
Bad with people: Hikaru is extremely bad at interacting with others. Social gestures can completely go over his head, and he also may end up accidentally offending somebody. His lack of proficiency in interacting with others results in him not having many friends. 

Antisocial: Hikaru doesn't enjoy social interaction, the exception being interactions with his friends. However, none of his friends logged onto Sword Art Online, so it's almost like he's not logged in either - To put it simply, he's a background person, with the exception of fighting on the front lines, something he hopes to do one day.

Sometimes Psychopathic: As mentioned in his Black Knight Complex virtue, he will do almost anything to achieve his own ends. It's mostly for the good of others, but Hikaru is only human - He sometimes succumbs into a desire for revenge, so if you have wronged him, you never truly know if or when he will get you back.

Reckless: Hikaru, despite his intelligence, can also be extremely reckless. This is very rare for Hikaru - When he is angry or under stress, his mind tends to clear, allowing for more room to make a plan. If he is sufficiently angered, however, he enters a blind rage.

Bad Temper: Hikaru has a dangerous anger. He can become blinded by it, or he can use it to his advantage. More often than not, it will be the latter. But in a death game, he has to make friends to survive. And if one of his friends dies, then that's when he's most vulnerable, yet also most powerful.
